xiaomi mi max 3: rooting - General Questions and Answers

hi - i am about to considering buying a xiaomi mi max 3 chinese seller via ebay, hope it is ok to ask the following questions:
1) is it possible to root the global version? (i see threads on converting the chinese version to global but i want to avoid this extra work)
2) do i need to get the bootloader code from xiaomi for global phone or can i root without it?
3) if so how long does it take to get it from xiaomi?
4) once rooted, can i return to unrooted afterwards?
5) i have no experience rooting, will rooting be undone if phone is automatically updated via xiaomi?
5) once unrooted, are any changes made to the phone (in my case deleting a specfic option on the SETTINGS menu) changed back with xiaomi auto update?
6) the reason i want to buy from ebay is i can return less hassle if seller gives me chinese version claiming it is global, does anyone gave experience buying global version elsewhere?
excuse the questions i've never rooted before, but now i find the need to do it because i have a huawei mate 20 x which doesnt allow me to root because bootloader is locked
really appreciate any help on this, i am so desperate to find a solution to my original problem i am considering buying apple(!) to avoid all above...i've spent sevral hours trying to find answers to above so any help appreciated!

P8Max DAV-703L rollback to Android 5

Hello,
I recently "upgraded" to Android 6 and I hate it. Not only do I not like it but my phone is very unstable and reboots and random intervals. Battery drain is also insane, lasting only 1 day.
Please let me know how to rollback to previous Android version. I am willing to donate for an answer that works.
Thanks!

1: make sure you have stock recoveries in place (both "recovery" & "recovery2" partitions)
2: have the stock b029 full rom (links available @xda or needrom.com) in the following folder on your sdcard: dload/UPDATE.APP
Make sure this is the extracted file from the zip, not the zip itself
3: power off your phone, press volume down+up+power until you enter eRecovery mode
Happy flashing
In case your phone doesn't recognize the update package, you can download it directly from your phone:
when rebooting, ensure your phone is plugged in via USB to your PC
No luck, bro. Same as before. Phone checks the file, goes from 1 to 4% and then at 5% (when it says "Installing") it says Update Failed. Reboot now.
Tried with eRecovery also (volume+ and USB cable inserted). It connects to WiFi but can't find any package.
I think the only option is to sell the phone and buy a new one with the factory firmware.
Lol, that's not the only option. Download Huawei firmware extractor, extract boot.img, recovery.img, cust.img, cache.img and userdata.img from the B028 firmware (not b029)(you can skip system.img). Use adb and fastboot to flash those files. After you flashed then repeat the firmware flash procedure with firmware b028 in dload folder and vol- vol+ and Power buttons. Did a rollback several times, worked every time for me.
EDIT:
Also here is a more detailed description:

You need your bootloader unlocked. You can use dc-unlocker to do that. It will cost you 3$ or 3€ and 10 minutes of your time:
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/how-to-read-huawei-bootloader-unlock-code
Still more convenient that reselling the phone.
I was hoping that wouldn't be the case. But I guess there is no cure for stupidity, since every time I "upgraded" my phones ever since the Galaxy Note N7000 got Android 4, they always ****ed it up, every single manufacturer. They're not at fault here, I'm the idiot who never learns his lesson.
So yeah, selling my phone it is since if you unlock the bootloader, you lose the warranty and that will make my phone sell for dirt-cheap, since I cannot use it with Android 6.
Thank you all for your help but it looks like this is the only option.
The first chance I get (someone makes a similar-sized device) I will abandon Huawei. Hardware is great but the software is utterly horrid! No-name chinese phones have much better software support than they have.

Unlocking the bootloader doesn't invalidate the warranty, so you're good to go. I for myself love the P8 max, hardware and software. The B029 works extremely good for me after customizing it a bit to fit my needs. There is no reason for me to update to Android 6 since everything works so flawlessly.
If you want to keep the size and don't go any smaller, one of the acceptable alternatives is the Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra, even thou I prefer the design of the P8 max.
Unfortunately, in my retarded country (Romania) I have to call Huawei to get the bootlocker unlock code, which by their terms in this ****ty country, invalidates the warranty. I've been through this nightmare before, with the DAV-701L in which I had to call in UK to get an unlock code, which they even said that I will lose the warranty.
These guys ****ed something up because, here's the kicker : you have to get the unlock code FROM Huawei, which invalidates the warranty. But to invalidate the warranty, you need permission from Huawei. **** logic.
The Zenfone is looking mighty delicious, you know. Thanks for the tip!

I must admit that I'm not overhappy with 6.00.
In exchange of a few new feature I lost root and things aren't so smooth anymore. Gonna roll back as soon as I receive my Xiami Max as a backup phone. Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra will be my next buy, but waiting for a phone so long it's a pain in the ass.. they shouldn't announce models months before they can release them. Like HP Elite X3 (January and just coming to shops) or LeTv X910 (which never saw the light) ?
hi guys,
I apologize for resurrection of this thread but does anyone know the location of the stock b029 full rom file ?
I do remember I was running MM and I want to give my P8 max to my niece but unfortunately it's missing OS.
I could install twrp and I was searching for the file but the links are dead and I think this would be the best place to ask.
Anyway, thanks in advance and sorry for bumping up 2 years old thread.
Peace

Mi Note 3 Associated With Another Mi Account

Hi guys
Bought my phone at AliExpress with Global 9.1.4.0 installed
I was trying to install Xiaomi.eu ROM when I found out that my phone is associated with another Mi Account, presumably my seller's, so now I can't go on with installation.
Is there any way to solve this?
Return the phone if you can.
it basically means that your phone was unlocked by your seller, global rom installed and then shipped to you... theres no way to undo this at least to my knowledge...

About Nokia 7+ Firmware

Well, I got a Nokia 7 Plus prototype (TA-1062), and I'm able to dump emmc from it.
Now I'm working on homebrew firmware - not sure if it can be flashed into retail unit.
I hope @blackpanther0582 could release Retail Android One firmware - even flashing it requires service point authentication.
BTW, I rooted the Nokia 7 Plus prototype easily.

I was thinking of buying N7P instead of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5,but I read that Nokia doesn't allow users to unlock the bootloader, so no custom ROMs, no TWRP and no root. That is a big no for me personally.
How did you root your phone? Care to share some info?

Prototype phones already have bootloader unlocked...
What I did are:
1. Enter Qualcomm EDL Mode with an EDL cable, then use QFIL to dump the whole emmc to get image.
2. Dump boot partition.
3. Use Magisk Manager to patch boot.img separately.
4. Flash this boot.img on either fastboot mode or EDL cable.
That's it.
I wonder if a retail phone can achieve these.
NOTE: Nokia 6 TA-1000 with locked bootloader requires an extra procedure to process boot.img in order to root the phone.

I didn't know that prototypes have their bootloader unlocked!
Hopefully, by the time it hits European stores, the Chinese who got it first might have figured something out. Or maybe, as it's part of Android One, it will be obligatory to allow users to unlock the bootloader.

I still have no idea of if the bootloader on China Variant is unlockable.
But, if you're going to buy Nokia 7+ from China, here's some warning:
1. Only Chinese (both Simplified and Traditional) and English is available on the phone.
2. You can install Play Store manually, but you must told the seller that preserves everything on stock to prevent from tampered system.
3. If the system got damaged, you have to find someone who can provide service support to flash your phone. I don't know if you can flash Android One firmware for global release since I don't have one.

Thanks for that info, on point 2 regarding play store does that extend to Google services also? Wifey is holidaying in China and just bought one and thought to buy another for me but I'm holding her off until I can be sure as I rely on Google services a great deal. Also why must the seller be informed, is that a warranty issue or software update issue?
And on point 3, presuming she brings the phone back to New Zealand is there a way I can help the community to explore flashing Android One global release firmware?

If you can buy it from China directly, informing seller is not necessary. For example, if you can buy it from Jing Dong or Suning, you needn't to worry about tampered OS, and that means you can receive further updates.
If you buy it from eBay or AliExpress, the system is probably tampered by seller which you can't get further updates.
As for install Play Store, it's really easy - just find Play Store APK from APKPure, APKMirror whatever and install it on the phone, this will allow you to get access to Play Store. Then you can install any other Google Apps on Play Store manually. You needn't to root your phone and install opengapps.
Since Android One firmware hasn't released yet and the bootloader isn't unlockable, you can't flash it right now.
Nokia 7 plus is available on Amazon europe sites like Germany and Italy and others and also ships worldwide and release date showing 12 to 14 or 15 april

thank you!
Big question here! I am going to europe and want to buy this phone there, the problem is that the model they are selling don't have band 4 (1700/2100) and i need it in my country. Is there a way to fix this? Is a model in europe with band 4? Can i flash the modem with band 4? Thanks a lot!
As the phone should be available, are there any news about the firmware of Europe phones? Is the bootloader unlocked / unlockable?

Unlock bootloader confusion

Hey Guys,
I have been googling for a while now and I seem to constantly come across conflicting and at times worrying posts which has very much left me stuck right were I am. I just recently purchased a Mate 9 in the hope I would be able to, like all my previous mobiles install a custom rom and tweak it to my specific needs. This however hasn't been the case.
Firmware:
System 8.0.0.046
Dataver MHA-L09 8.0.0.371(C34)
Things that have been tried:
1. No I didn't get a boot unlocker code from the Huawei
2. Yes I have contacted them personally via two different channels and both returned with a we are happy to give it to you, that's not an issue, but this code doesn't exist anymore.
3. DC-Unlock tool didn't detect my mobile in manufacture mode, in which I found another forum post stating to use HCU 3.22 client instead which worked to the point of detecting my mobile, but told me that the current security patch not supported.
4. Contacting DC-Unlock, told me there is no ETA on getting this patch level to work
5. I have read people downgrading to a previous version, unlocking and then installed the custom rom via HiSuite, this doesn't give me that option.
6. I have read people downgrading to a previous version, unlocking and then installed the custom rom via firmware finder.
6.1 Issues with this is that I seen someone claim to upgrade to version 8.0.0.3.75, which is higher then mine, which enabled the rollback feature, is this correct?
6.2 Issues with this is that I have read that gpu turbo has been enabled and many have warned that rolling back to a pre-gpu turbo enabled firmware will brick you mobile and would result in a motherboard needing to be replaced for nearly the cost of the mobile itself.
I am tempted to try another site which I can't remember the name of, which if you pay considerably more then DC-Unlock. at least if they can't get the code, would be refunded. but I think that site is down now as I feel they were playing on people who didn't know how to have done it for free via the Huawei site back in 2018.
So I want to know is there a safe way to unlock my bootloader I think my only option is option 6 but just want more details from others who have done it this way before, or have I pretty much exhausted all my option and just bite the bullet and upgrade to 9.0.1.187 and possibly further through the OTA update process and just enjoy the mobile for what it is and it's limitations?
Thanks again.
You can try the spoofing method here on xda I updated from 8 to 9 with that, as long as firmware finder says your imei is approved

Thanks for that, I can already upgrade to 9, my system updates app is just waiting for me to accept. The issue is that I don't want to go forward. I really want to go backwards, so I can unlock my bootloader first. I'm already at the stage where I have tried most if not all the safe ways to unlocking my bootloader, but with my currently installed android version I can't. The only way forward for me it seems is the firmware finder app and SD force flash back to EMUI 5 aka Android 7 to use DC-Unlocker to unlock it first, then that gives me the freedom of installing the official Android 9 or openkirin.
I just worried as some people have stated that if you attempt a downgrade after a specific point, something about GPU turbo being enabled in later firmwares, which will brick your mobile.
I just want to hear from others who have done this successfully or if it's not possible in my case.

Question how to unlock my bricked Redmi Note 11 Pro 5g (China:Pissarro) Bootloader

hi, i updated my phone to MIUI 13.0.3 android 12 and i've noticed a bug that made all the apps that are using the camera like instagram and snapchat take blurry pictures like an effect getting applied to the pictures taken by those apps (everything normal in my stock camera app) so i decided to use MiFlash tool to flash the previous android version on my phone but i bricked my phone instead i flashed a global rom while my phone is the chinese market version and accidently checked the ClearData+lock Device check box in MiFlash. the tool flashed the rom successfully but when the phone restarted it showed me a message saying that this rom cannot be installed on this device in recovery mode i couldn't do anything after cuz the bootloader got locked too T i tried everything to unlock it (mtk Client - bootloader unlocker+ adb fastboot + Xiaomi Unlock app ...). please help me is there any way i can fix my phone and what is the righ Rom to flash on my phone (Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G China (21091116C - Pissarro). thnx
friend I'm not a star I tell you how things are 1) you can't go back with another Rom only china 2) anti-roll-back 3) MiCloud you have to disable it you can try MiflashV2 there is also to unlock the bootloader it does everything even the firmware remember if the firmware does not start. important not only china also not china for updates remember first you do the factory reset put google account do not update any app except google drive backup with drive if it has arrived update it is better by setting the time instead of downloading the package the problem is when the update occurs it fails to close all active apps and then there is MiCloud that blocks. Best wishes and good luck and that I have little time for me too much trouble here in Europe.

currently my phone is stuck at the logo and after seconds it loads Fastboot automatically i cant access the phone os to do anything i used the xiaomi bootloader unlocker app that works online but it didnt work . the local cell phone service shops told that they have to open the phones back case to fix it ... i dont want that i've just bought the phone didnt even use it for a whole month
they don't have to open it they use licensed or dongle software (USB type) currently I use unlocktoll.net but if the phone is under warranty and you haven't removed the bootloader before it is better for you. It is possible that others have the same problem as you. Good luck

Rule number 1 for Xiaomi never flash anything on Mediatek devices, it will fail. If messed up, no way back as Xiaomi locks the devices for autorized service providers or local Xiaomi branches only. If you want to play with Xiaomi custom roms/development/etc. related only buy Snapdragon based devices.
I i.e. learned it the hard way, when this all started with the Redmi Note 8 Pro, I bricked it by flashing twrp in Android 11 and Xiaomi didn't want to repair it, so I had to pay some russian guy to fix it via Teamviewer with a modified unlock tool which was able to answer the unlock requests by pasting the answer manually from a generator. It's not like I messed up at a point, it's just that Mediatek devices easily fall in a unrecoverable state. In my term it was the combination of Android version and twrp. You will note there is no Mediatek support on xda and even when your device is named like a Snapdragon version, your device is offtopic here, because trying anything on it beyond unlocking the bootloader is harakiri
