Hi, just upgraded to the new one UI 3.0 and having a few issues . Tried to wipe cache partition, but when I hold down the volume+power button, the menu doesn't show up.
Has access to the system menu changed?
You have to connect your phone to pc or laptop to enter recovery mode.

Thanks for the reply. I used to hold down vol + and power button to clear cache partition, doesn't that work with the one ui 3 anymore?
My google feed stops working on one ui 3.0. I have to restart phone in order for it to start working again with nova launcher.

You have to do that but when phone is connected to laptop.
It's been posted elsewhere on the forum
You basically have to plug your headphones in
Yes head phones believe it or not
Don't have to be a pc or laptop
It will work

Wonder why you didn't give the guy a like. ?
I did now! New to this, so didn't spot that option. Thanks for pointing it out.
I can do it without a laptop or headphones, just power off the phone and then volume up and power, when the phone power up don't release the button yet until you see the android.

Hi everyone,
INTRO:
So the power button on my Nexus S broke. No big deal, I remapped it to the search button and used the volume rocker to wake the device; an option that was embedded in Cyanogenmod9.
Then I upgraded to CM10... since I did that on top of CM9, my volume rocker option was still enabled, but the option is no longer in CM10's GUI.
I had some annoying issue and thought maybe I should wipe my phone; which I did.
Sadly, I realized that my "wake using volume rocker" option was no longer enabled, and there is no GUI to turn it back on.
I then found a .zip package that was supposed to enable the option but, I guess I went too fast, now my phone is stuck on a bootloop.
THE PROBLEM:
Since my power button is broken, I cannot navigate in the fastboot menu to recovery and fix the ROM.
Worst, since the power button is somehow shorted (i.e.: it powers on automatically when I insert the battery) Fastboot is not working properly and my PC never sees my phone, so you can forget about fastboot boot recovery.img
So: boot loop, power button broke, no recovery, no fastboot. =(
I searched quite a bit and found out you could get the Nexus S in download mode and get it to work with ODIN using a USB JIG.
I made myself such a JIG and successfully put the phone in some kind of download mode where my PC sees it, fastboot devices yields nothing *but* ODIN sees the phone!
So a glimmer of hope except for the fact that finding the .tar files for the Nexus S seems impossible...
Thoughts? Suggestion? TIA!
Francis // XC3N
Oh BTW:
-Yes I saw the other posts, but none of them mention the odin files
-Yes, I know fastboot is better; but it's not working and:
-No, I can't see the device on 3 different PCs using 3 different OSes and 3 Different cables when in fastboot mode
I mean by that last line that *nothing* shows in device manager in Win7 or XP and *nothing* shows in lsusb on ubuntu
So unless someone has an idea it looks like Download mode is the only way my PC sees my phone...
My power button done the same thing, I googled around and found a solution that worked for me.
It's somewhere here on xda but I don't got the link, basically everytime I booted into the bootloader I couldn't move the cursor with the volume button because the phone thought I was holding the power button, so I carefully tapped the casing around the power button and rebooted the bootloader and eventually I had control, it took 5-6 attempts to get it going but it did fix the power button for me.
I think it's something to do with the micro switches giving out after a certain number of uses.
Also it started screwing about recently so I just blew into the casing through the power button and it's behaved ever since.
In short, tap it until it works, once you have control of fastboot plug the usb in and your pc should detect it
Hope this helps, Good Luck

Hey MuckyFox thanks for your reply!
Unfortunately, that would've worked back when the power button was flimsy and still working once in a while... I did try the tapping thing but really nothing works... the button seems entirely dead and shorted. I guess at this point I might've to bring it in for repair... if the power button isn't broken then I'll be able to easily fix everything in recovery or fastboot. Sucks because I feel like I'm so close to getting it to work without spending money XD I just can't find the files for odin even though they really do seem to exist.
Allright so I found some odin files which were said to work with the i9020a
I flashed them... at some point it said "RESET!" and then odin no longer saw the device. The device is now not booting at all. FML
So this thread is going to end up like every other similar thread: I went and bought a Galaxy Nexus ;P
For posterity, these are the files you shouldn't flash on i9020A:
BOOTLOADER : Bootloader_I9020XXJK1.tar
PDA : PDA_SOJU_GRH78_85442_SIGNED.tar
PHONE:
CSC : CSC_I9020_EUR.tar
My power button started failing over the last couple of days. First when I would set the phone to standby it would ask me if I wanted to switch off the device, then later on it wouldnt respond at all.
Really weird solution - boot into recovery, factory restore, clear dalvik cache, voila, works good as new! (aside from losing all my settings)
Note, I barely managed to get into recovery. The power button fully stopped working halfway through and I had to take the battery out and try it a couple of times.
Oddly, even during this uber-broken phase, the power button would always switch on the device when fully switched off (not just standby) indicating to me that it wasnt just a physical broken connection.
I've mentioned this before, but a full casing for the phone with all the buttons is around $10 on eBay

You need stuff for SOJUA, and just the fact CSC has EUR meaning Europe in it would scare the crap out of me. Possible you just flashed stuff meant for i9020T and not i9020A.

Hi everyone,
I've got a big issue, my nexus S is not rooted and bootloader is still lock. As I said, my power button is broken....I've tryed to install driver from the nexus toolkit(and many others...), it worked but my nexus is reconized as "Acer ADB"...After that, I did "adb reboot bootloader" the nexus get into fastboot, but the computer cannot see it at all..not even in devices manager. When i'm on fastboot, nothing works, volume button and power are not responding(volume normaly work when booting OS).
Please help me !

Unless you have Gingerbread, you cannot root without your power button.
You can't scroll in fastboot and it doesn't get recognized because the power key is "stuck" on. It's a known issue when the power button fails on the Nexus S. Some people had moderate luck blasting compressed air around the power button, other opening it up and cleaning it with alcohol.
Thanks for answering.. I'll probably try to clean the button, i asked someone who repair Android phone and he told me that there was no fix for this button issue -_- that sound weird...

There's no easy fix though, it's true. I don't think anyone sourced the power button switch so as to order a few of them and beside it's a SMD component, quite tiny for some inexperienced (and even experienced) people.
If I was certain it was a power switch physical issue, I could likely source the part somewhere or exchange for similar and offer to repair people Nexus S, but my phone is fine and I surely won't take someone else phone to test.
I've got the screen with the flashing "RCK" the Android picture and the Wipe Data picture.

Make sure that you are allowing the tablet to search for devices - in the top right corner of the setting on the bluetooth page. When I first tried connecting my BT headphones, I think by default it showed only visible devices. Not very intuitive IMO.
Hey there, I've got a question regarding my broken Sony Z5 and hope you can help me...
A few days ago I accidentally dropped my Z5 on the floor, so back and front glasses both cracked. The Display itself seems to be OK (since it didn't show any failures and the phone was still on and working). Just the Touch functions of the display were not working, meaning I wasn't able to use it anymore.
Since I'd like to get off the data from the phone I remembered I had such a problem with an iPhone 4 some time ago. So to put in my PIN and read it out with my PC I plugged an Lightning to USB adapter in it, and a USB keyboard from a computer. This worked out just fine, I put in my PIN and I was able to rescue my data.
Now I had the same idea with my broken Z5, and connected an USB OTG adapter with a computer keyboard. ...but it didn't work. Wether with a keyboard nor with a USB Mouse (since Android has Mouse support mostly).
After a short search on the web I had to realize the Z5 has USB OTG only after authorizing new devices in the menu.
or, ...as an alternative solution, to start the phone with the desired USB device already connected.
...so I did what seems to be my biggest mistake now: I pushed the reset button in the SIM card tray and hoped I would be able to operate it by mouse after a restart.
...but sadly, I had to realize the Hardware Buttons do not work anymore...
So, ...actually there is no way for me to switch the phone back on and boot.
Of course it will react if I plug the loading cable in it, and it will boot to the loading screen with that green battery.
Does anyone know any way to switch the phone on, without having to touch the buttons?
Perhaps is it possible by a special command/program using a computer?
Or is there an equivalent button on a hardware USB keyboard which acts as the power button or volume rocker?
(so I would be able to boot to the recovery screen instead of the battery-screen. I've read that it's possible to restart the phone from there...?)
I appreciate any help, thanks in advance,
best regards

First of all, are you rooted? Do you have USB Debugging on? If so, you can go for fastboot reboot without the need of powr key. Just plug it in while holding volume up key, type in your terminal or whatever you are using "adb devices", should show your device attached, then type "fastboot reboot" and it should reboot into system. Of course you'll need abd drivers for this.
You said the screen is working but the touch screen is not working?
Edit: Nvm, I tried on my device, you don't even need to have USB Debugging enabled.
With your device powered off, hold volume up key while you plug it in to your computer. A blue led should appear now. Go into your terminal, type adb devices, then fastboot reboot.
Edit 2: wait my bad, i read it wrong, neither your power botton or your volume buttons are working. Wops. that's a problem.
I actually have one solution for you, but only hoping you have USB Debugging and Root on your phone.
Alright, with adb on your computer: type "adb shell" hit enter, then type "su" and hit enter, then "reboot download", hit enter. Now the device should reboot to Flashmode, blue led should appear and screen should be black. Now you can run the command "fastboot reboot" to get into your system.
Hope it helped.. it's kinda tricky. I don't know other ways with no root

I have a Samsung Galaxy J7 and there is no ROM on it. It had TWRP installed and working, but today it stopped booting. If I push the power button
nothing happens like the battery is dead. I went ahead and bought a new OEM battery and put it into the phone. I plug in the charger and for a
few seconds, the black screen shows a battery in the middle with a lightning bolt. Then it goes back to black ... I let it charge overnight but when I
go to turn it on, it still does nothing. no matter how long I hold the power button, nothing happens. I tried power + home + Vol and still nothing.
Just a black screen and no LEDs light up. Nothing ... if I plug it back into power the battery icon shows again in the middle of the screen with a
lightning bolt, then goes back to black.
What could this mean ?? Is there anything I can try ? the phone was booting into twrp just fine until today.
Please help !!

I dont have that phone so cant suggest you any roms, just make sure its stock and latest. Also i doubt that its a battery issue as a brand new battery has some charge which should have turned on the phone when you tried.

Thoughts please ???
Thank you

Since you're new, have you tried pulling the battery, putting it back, then holding power, home, and volume down buttons simultaneously? It wasn't clear if that was the problem with using Odin or not.

Hi again -
first off Yes I have tried power-vol-home but again nothing happens. No screen. Just black. The ONLY TIME the screen comes on is if I put the charger into the phone..the screen ONLY comes on for 5 seconds displays the battery and shuts OFF. I have NO ROM / NO TWRP. . it is all gone. I had TWRP but if its there I cannot boot to it. No fast download / download / recovery nothing happens, only the battery ICON for 5 seconds. I have tried three batteries and none of them will help. It will NOT charge either.
Also Sandeepkumar - sorry I was not clear. There is NO OS. No Rom. So there is no way to turn on usb debugging. Please help ! If you have any other ideas, or you need any more info from me
Thanks again all !!
PS... Just so you all know, It was ALL working prior to this. It was rooted/TWRP/Custom ROM ... all fine. Then I deleted ROM/OS by mistake from TWRP, then this all happened

right, so now what we need to do is , connect your phone to computer while the device manager is opened on it. that way we can check if computer recognises the device in any mode. if it shows something in usb section then maybe we can look for a way to bring the phone in download mode or some other mode.

Okay, we must not check this pc for the device, open device manager using windows + X. Then selecting device manager from that black menu that pops up. Inside device manager, look for the list of usb devices, it should be near the end of list. Now when you plug a usb, you either see usb mass storage device or you see unrecognised device. Check what happens when you plug the phone and battery sign shows up

Okay, so if the phone doesnt show up in device manager then i guess there is nothing that we can do. I have ran out of ideas. Maybe its time to send it to customer support.
As you're trying all this, is your battery fully charged?

Oh ... Well I assume it doesnt show because it is not turned on. I guess my only option is to get a standalone charger and charge the battery then try again ,,,
Other than that .. IDK.
thanks anyway .

I hope you get the device working. Good luck and please share what happened.
FYI I charged the battery in a universal charger, now phone boots fine. Battery was just too low to take a charge from phone.
Thanks again
