As it is not yet published on the net by the time writing this post, I can't tell whats all new, since I need to explore it too.. however.. have fun ;-)
Trying to figure that out myself. Standby...
EDIT: after playing around for a few minutes, I don't notice anything different. I'd love to hear if anyone else finds anything, though.
Got a link to an announcement or anything? Could be updated for australia getting google nav tomorrow?

Nope. "Failed to move application. System updates cannot be installed on external media."
The Australia Navi is my best guess, though I'm in the USA and can't confirm.
Had same issue at first (installation unsuccessful). So I uninstalled map updates from settings and installed again from the market. Worked!
New features were related to rating a place and getting more personalized search results. Also UI did feel snappier, imho
google hotpot maps 4.7

I had a weird phenomena. Checking under Apps i found 3 times the same instance of Google Maps 4.6 - that's why i went to the market to actually uninstall, and found myself with an upgrade available.

It starts tomorrow (Wednesday).

Some people have had theirs enabled a bit early, so it seems like there's a bit of a staged rollout. Don't freak out if yours isn't enabled first thing tomorrow morning, might take even a day or two.
Google Navigation now available in Australia. Tried it at 11:55pm last night as soon as the update was offered.

Please be advised that a software update is now available that provides access to an Apps Store directly from your G Tablet. Owners of the G Tablet will receive an automatic notice of the new software upgrade. Users can then simply click on the Apps Store icon from their G Tablet to gain access to 1,000's of leading Android apps. (Please note that the automatic notification requires that the G Tablet has WiFi Internet access upon power-on.)
Adobe Flash Support
The Viewsonic G Tablet hardware and firmware provides full support for the Adobe Flash Player built into the unit. At the time that the G Tablet was manufactured, the Adobe Player application was not available for this product. We anticipate that a version of the Adobe Flash Player Application will be available by December 19, 2010. Owners of the G Tablet will receive an automatic notice that the plug-in is available for download to further expand their web access and entertainment. (Please note that the automatic notification requires that the G Tablet has WiFi Internet access upon power-on.)
anyone get the appstore update?
None here to report
(no mods)
If this is an OTA update, most likely none of us with mods will get it -- it's probably getting pushed down via the TnT OTA service. They might push down an update.zip and then do a reboot into recovery to run it. If that's the case, we might be able to intercept the update. Maybe.
EDIT: I called CS (I love 'em, they are a great bunch to talk to, in all seriousness). Sounds like the update is ready to go and it sounds like it's an OTA update. Lots of bug fixes as well as their App Store, which sounds like a web site of some kind. It may have been pulled at the last minute but should show up this weekend or early next week.
It also sounds like the new shipments to Staples are part of the reason for getting this out so I hope that means they will work overtime to get this out ASAP. We will see.
Ignoring the terrible condition at launch, the update came pretty quickly. Hopefully we'll see more updates.
No update here and I registered my unit right after I got it.
I wonder if there is anything we have to do to get the update?
Update process?
IS there anything that an enduser needs to do to recieve the update? If it's OTA does it ask before it install that update? I keep checking their website but they don't seem to view it as a communication tool. Those poor CS people are about to get swamped I guess

I got my update Thursday night. My tablet posted a notification that I had an update available, I clicked on it and it downlozded. It seems to have fixed the clock loosing time, their market app now works, the update icon was changed, wifi seems to be more stable and reliable. They also seem to have addressed the storage card issues, but it still does not recognize my microsd card installed. It sees it but I haven't found a way to access it yet.
Downside: they screwed up the default home page. The three windows are now blank waiting for data. I have not been able to add or change any thing on this screen.
I am running stock tablet no mods.

Still nothing on the update here... no notification or anything. I sure hope my registration went through. I saw where somone said they got an email after registering, I did not receive an email.

That's my goal - I want the update just so I can mod it into TnT Lite 2.00. Right now I have a vanilla config on my device and I'm waiting it out.
I have a feeling that we won't see the update until Monday, but I hope that I'm wrong.

They told me that there was a UAT period where the CS reps got the update on their test devices. Perhaps they don't have an actual UAT side and they added it to their production infrastructure instead which would have allowed a few consumers to get the update? That's my guess.
Can you check your kernel version? I'm curious if they sent a new one. Also, do you have an update.zip in the root of your /sdcard and, if so, can you post that? That could be the actual update that they sent down.

Yes, that is the icon to update. Just got off the phone with support. The update has been pulled until 11/22. Allegedly there were other things to be included and they wanted to release it all at once, that's what I was told anyway.

Bad decision on their part - better to have an interim update now and another early next, unless there's a nasty bug in the interim build.
A lot of shoppers will be out this weekend and they really need that firmware update NOW.
EDIT: Added a new thread - I felt this was important enough that it was warranted.

Since I got my G yesterday, I have not seen the App Store anywhere on it. Here is the update I have on mine:
Tap UI Update
Current Version: Flextronics/harmony/harmony/:2.2/FRF91/hudson-20101023-135552-TnT_SVN_2638:user/testkeys
I registered my product this morning (2 hours ago) and haven't received any emails confirming registration from VS.
I do have wifi on at power-on.
Purchased it at Sears outlet for $279 of which I think is a steal just for the hardware.
I am still completely stock - no OTA update yet for me either. I did not get any sort of confirmation email when I registered...the screen just said "Thanks for Registering" and that was it.

IMPORTANT! SOFTWARE UPDATE
On November 22nd , 2010 there will be a software update released to all owners of the G Tablet. This update will be automated to your G Tablet when you are connected via wifi, however, some early customers may need to click on the Tap UI icon in the “more” section of your home page to initiate the software update. (The download will take anywhere from 1 minute to 1 hour depending upon your wifi network speed.) Please follow the instructions posted on your G Tablet to install the latest product update which improves your G Tablet experience. This update includes a new Marketplace, additional applications, increased performance and micro SD capabilities. Look for additional updates in the future as we continue to enhance the G Tablet Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

A woot sale is not "new lower prices". That said, I'm in for one, and also looking for the hacking I hope is already going on this!
Checking in too, I got mine yesterday and am very excited about the device.
What I was able to establish quickly is that most 2.2 apps will work out of the box on the Pocket Edge (I made apk backups of my apps on my N1, copied them onto the SD card of the Pocket Edge and voila, I had most of my favorite apps
I would be specifically interested in knowing how to access the e-ink screen programatically. Seems that the current apps focus mostly on the LCD screen.
Did you try sideloading the market? What about amazon market? You didn't order yours off woot and have it arrive so fast, did you?
Sorry, I'm just really curious to see how this thing works out.
Anyone who has one already willing to do a system dump? Is it even possible?
I also Wooted and am waiting on my new toy to arrive.
I just got my PE through a dutch version of woot, I upgraded it to 2.2.1 right away, but there's still plenty to tweak. I have no experience whatsoever with those things, but I'm very willing to learn and help you out, just tell me what to do.

I am not quite sure what to do. I believe it's an adb pull. I meant to do a little more research but have been really busy with work.
Anyone have more knowledge about this?
They have an open development forum on the entourage website that may have useful information for someone wanting to hack this device (I got one on woot too.)
I can't link outside the site since this is my first post, but it's the Open Edge Community Forum at the very bottom of the forum page.
To save a google or two, it's http://www.entourageedge.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?19-Open-eDGe-Community
I got mine (from Woot!) yesterday. I applied the update. I have signed up for the betas, but not installed the beta OS yet.
I plugged in a USB keyboard and it worked well. I did the same with a mouse, though the X and Y axes seem swapped; maybe it only works with a particular screen orientation. I have a Bluetooth keyboard that I will try next.
The included apps aren't great, but they could be worse. I copied some .apk files from my rooted HTC Aria just to see what would install.
Apps that installed and worked:
1) Titanium Backup (the free one). Doesn't do much since I don't have root.
2) Google Maps - everything but the location-based services seems to work.
3) RealCalc - looks freaky on the huge screen
4) Google Listen - though it's broken because it needs a GMail link
5) SystemPanelLite
Apps that would not install:
1) GMail
2) Winamp (I don't like the eDGe's music player)
Looking forward to getting Market and Gmail working one day!
My WPE (Woot Pocket Edge) came today and is slowly charging up. I see two root methods out there, one on AndroidPolice using ADB and one on mobileread using z4root. Anybody have a favorite or comments?
-- Ed
I'm not very good with adb so I think I'll check z4root. Do you have a link?
I got mine today and have been playing for a couple hours. Updated to Ermine. Installed a few apps from the Amazon app store and also copied over a few from my phone.
Everything worked except for Gmail and Google Reader.

HOw? I've owned one of these for almost a year now???
I've played a bit with rooting it already with Ermine and installed the CM6.1 version of Gapps HDPI manually, rebooted. I can't seem to get it to let me add an account. I get the horrible "Can't establish a reliable data connection" error and am stuck at that point
I've read lots of posts about people having trouble adding a google account via wifi and am wondering if something needs to be changed to make it work. I had tried a mock location w/ "My Fake Location" with no luck so far.
Just rooted mine. It was super easy. I downloaded the z4root app from the Amazon App Store and clicked Permanent Root. Et voila!
Now to install AdFree Android and Ti Backup. They make Android life so much easier.

Instructions for Installing G-mail/Calendar
I also got the sucker from Woot. I'm pretty happy with it at the moment. Definitely worth $150!
I'm currently in the process of trying to get gapps to work. At the moment, I have a functional copy of gmail and the calendar, but I'm still having trouble with the market. I'm posting this in the hope that I can help push forward the process and someone more knowledgeable will figure out how to get the market to work.
Anyway, here's the process.
(1) Root your device. You just need to download z4root from the Amazon marketplace and select the "permanent root" option.
(2) Download the Google *.apk files. While you can get these from several places, I took them from the CyanogenMod wiki. Unfortunately, I'm a new user and can't post links. Therefore, you need to (A) Google CyanogenMod Wiki, (B) click on "Latest Version," (C) scroll down to the bottom of the page, (D) download the HDPI files under the CyanogenMod 6 section.
(3) Transfer the *.apk files to your Pocket Edge via USB.
(4) Install the *.apk files with the preloaded ES File Explorer. This part is a little tricky, primarily because the different gapps are intimately related and draw on similar resources. Therefore, you need to install quite a few of them to get gmail/calendar to work. From what I can tell, these are the ones that are absolutely necessary:
Gmail.apk
GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
GooglePartnerSetup.apk
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
MediaUploader.apk
SetupWizard.apk
Talk.apk
Vending.apk
After I installed all the applications, I still had some trouble initializing my Google account. I would type in my information, but it would take forever and then inform me that I didn't have an internet connection. I discovered that this had been a problem for some previous users with different devices. The workaround was to initialize your account through Google's YouTube app, which you will have to install along with the other *.apk files. I'm curious to see if anybody else has this problem. I'm fairly certain I had these issues because I was messing around with various gmail installations before I arrived at this solution. (Also, I'm wondering if installing "OneTimeInitializer.apk" might also help).
Good luck. I'm fairly confident about eventually getting the Market to work. Also, I'm glad to finally have Launcher Pro and Swiftkey installed instead of the default options.
Thanks for all the useful info!
I tried installing via the CyanogenMod gapps pack like you said and I currently have functioning Gmail, calendar sync, contacts sync, Reader & Maps (though of course you can't really get a location; good for looking up directions anyway). You don't have to install a new calendar app to get your Google calendar to sync. That comes with the calendar sync apk. You might lose the e-ink functionality of the current app if you tried to replace it with the standard Google Calendar app.
Install Gmail last. I had problems with Gmail force closing until I installed it after installing all the other supporting gapps.
I had the same problem logging into my Google account via Gmail, but the YouTube workaround was also successful for me. I got a weird error when I fired up Gmail after logging into my account. It said the account was not set up to sync. I unchecked and then rechecked the various elements in Settings > Accounts & Sync and that fixed my issue.
Sent from my edgejr using XDA Premium App
I've also rooted the Edge (with Z4root, seems simplest and works fine) and so far I've been stymied at almost every step. I'm noticing about half the apps in Amazon's App store don't install. I also pulled the .apk's for Quadrant and SetCPU, neither of them work however.
I think doing anything past installing some Google apps is going to necessitate a custom ROM, but there's not really any development happening for this thing and I certainly lack the programming skillz needed to do so.

If you're asking how to get Android 2.2.1, go to the entourage edge site, head to the forums, and use the partial link below to see the thread:
/forums/showthread.php?1835-How-to-Upgrade-the-Pocket-Edge-from-Dingo-to-Ermine
After rooting (thanks for posting that!), I can't seem to move any apps to the SD card.
I'm looking forward to installing the GAPPS, thanks for the how-tos.
Hi there, looking for some more advice here!
Just took out a contract with Orange, and I want the orange apps..specifically 'Your Orange' so I can look at my account and such on the fly.
After doing a bit of research, I've found a few different bits of 'loose' information, with nothing significant really coming of them.
XAP - I am led to believe that the reason I can't just download an XAP is because the phone's ID's will determine wether the app can or can't load. Hence why I can't find a single .XAP of it online.
ROM Flashing - If I flash the Orange UK CSC with a rom will that work? If so, my next questions is how do I flash a CSC with the new custom Rainbow rom? I thought this might work, but then when I looked at my phone the H3G app still shows under Samsung Zone even though I flashed to a non-branded ROM and am now flashed to a unreleased custom ROM at the moment, but the H3G one still shows. I have never used a 3 sim card in this phone, but it is 3 branded. I thought flashing a different rom would get rid of that/give me the one I wanted (flashing with the orange CSC for example)
Registry Editing - I'm sure most people here now know how to get different manufacturers apps on their phones.
The key that sit next to it apparently control the operator apps.
HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\OemName
HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\MobileOperator
Does anyone wether this works, and if so what the Orange UK code is?
-----EDIT----
After looking at the ROMs, I've determined that Orange's code is ORA-GB. After setting this in the registry and doing a reboot I still can't access the Orange apps in the marketplace, and the H3G app still shows up at the bottom of Samsung Zone. ¬¬
Please don't tell me to search. You will literally find odds and ends like this - I search loads last night and today!
Take a look at my OEM Marketplace XAPs (thread linked in my sig). People have also posted the info for ccessing carrier marketplaces using that.
Oh, and you may want to revert the DeviceTargetingInfo registry values *RIGHT NOW*. At some point - I don't know how long it takes or what the trigger is - having those registry values mis-set apparently causes your marketplace DRM to break, and all your purchased (or free or trial) apps stop working. I only *know* it happens for the OEM value, but I would expect that it happens for the Operator too. The method used by the OEM Marketplace XAPs is much safer by all reports so far.

Thanks man. So what I've gathered from that is that I need to change the XML file. I'm too nooby, any idea on how I can edit those on my Omnia 7? (now you can yell at me for not using the search!)
EDIT
Was just about to start editing me some XML's, when I realised I needed Adobe Reader. (Bare in mind I had already set my DeviceTargetingInfo back to 000-GB) loaded up WP7 marketplace, and at the top of the list, staring me in the face is Orange Selects. I don't know if its because I changed the DeviceTargetingInfo (but I changed it back and rebooted so how in good god...?) or if my Orange sim just kicked it into working after being in the phone for a while (only put the sim in 3 and a half hours ago) but yeah. It's working. So..thanks? lmao
It's the 3.5 hours one, almost certainly. The phone updates those XML files (the one my XAPs modify) automatically. In my case (in the US) I believe it happens around sometime in the night or early morning. That sounds just about right for the UK.

Hello,
I have a TC55 from Motorola Solutions (i.e. the enterprise division that does not belong to Google). It is a rugged phone with a big battery (4400 mAh), but certainly not the sleekest design. Not sure if there is much interest in this kind of device, and I am certainly no developer - but in case anyone is investigating the TC55, here are two things I found so far:
It does not come with any Google apps: no Maps, no Gmail, no Play store and so on.
It is easily rooted with Framaroot using the Gandalf exploit.
(I cannot post this info into the Framaroot thread due to my low post count).
Anyway, maybe this helps someone. I will be happy to try to answer any questions about the TC55, but keep in mind I am no pro and I am not keen in messing around in its internals much more than I have done already.

I heard my company is planning to go with these soon for entry level supervisors such as myself. I'm trying to figure out exactly what it is. All the specs and brochures from Motorola keep calling it a mobile computer in a smartphone "form factor" but never actually call it a phone. I didn't see anything in any of the specs to lead me to believe for sure that it was a phone or if it was just an Android computer in a smartphone form factor.
Anyway, I just wanted to confirm, that, you're certain this is a phone, correct?
Thanks.

Yes, definitely. You can call and get called, and you can send and receive SMS. It also supports wired headsets, and it is supposed to work with Bluetooth headsets, though I do not have any to test.

Thanks for the info but it looks like mine is going to be crippled.
Sort of a let-down really. Yes, it "can" be a phone. Or without a sim card it can be a really powerful Android based mobile computer. That's what it is going to be for most of us. Only a few supervisors with area management approval are going to get units with the phone features working. Still cool. Just not as cool as I'd thought it was going to be.

I see, sorry to hear that. It sounds weird to me to do that, but then again I have no clue about this type of work.
Maybe the crippling could be worked around or undone by people with good Android knowledge - but I suppose it might not be the best idea to go against company policy.

I don't think they're doing anything all that special to cripple it. They just won't all have sim cards or a cell plan. Pretty much as simple as that.
I won't be doing anything to circumvent that though or rooting it or anything like that. It's not like it's a gift and it belongs to me or anything. After almost 22 years, I've kind of grown to like my job and getting a paycheck every two weeks.I'd kind of like to keep it for another 15 or 20 years. Who knows, maybe my manager will decide that I need cell service with mine.
I work for a large automaker in the U.S. We have over 2.8 million square feet under roof. Personally, I can be anywhere on in the plant, on the roof, in pits & sub-basements underneath or anywhere on or near the 50 acre plant site at any given time. A lot of what I need to do on a daily basis is through our intranet portal. They're putting in something like 500 new wi-fi repeaters/extenders all around the plant as well. They're purchasing these for over 300 first line supervisors at my site alone. I'm pretty sure they're doing this corporate-wide so I hate to think what they're spending on these things as a corporation. I'm sure it would bankrupt many small nations! In addition to giving us portal access away from the desk, these are meant to replace our aging industrial radio system. As expensive as these are, they're still much cheaper than $1.5 to $2k per person for a radio that has no other built-in functionality and these do seem pretty ruggedized.
Still a shame about the phone functionality though.

Can you see what browser it comes with? Can you install (untrusted) APKs directly without rooting it?
FYI, in case anyone's wondering, there is a version with Google apps on the way (if it isn't already orderable).

Browser is a standard one, which comes with other devices. Name is Browser.apk and version is 1.0.9
It's possible to install unsigned APK's without rooting.
google account
Hi,
I got stucked with trying to get google calendars from my google account to TC55.
I found one solution to setup google account as a corporate one, but it's not available anymore due to change in google policy.
I can setup google mail via email account, but that doesn't bring me my calendars to the device.
I tried to install gapps but without success.
Is there any other way?
Thanks.
Motorola work on google apps for TC55.There is in beta.

... here are two things I found so far:
It does not come with any Google apps: no Maps, no Gmail, no Play store and so on.
It is easily rooted with Framaroot using the Gandalf exploit.
(I cannot post this info into the Framaroot thread due to my low post count).
Anyway, maybe this helps someone. I will be happy to try to answer any questions about the TC55, but keep in mind I am no pro and I am not keen in messing around in its internals much more than I have done already.

No idea, I haven't tried. As far as I understand gapps are usually installed via flashing a zip from recovery, and the stock recovery of the TC55 does not have that option, it only allows reflashing a whole image, if I understand it correctly. Either way, I have come to appreciate the open source alternatives and do not want to get Google on my phone, so I will not try, sorry.
However, going by this thread over at the Motorola support forum, it seems it won't take long until there is official gapps support:
https://developer.motorolasolutions.com/thread/4989
Motorola has now released a TC55-firmware with Google apps. Here are the release notes:
https://atgsupportcentral.motorolasolutions.com/content/emb/docs/ReleaseNotes/Release%20Notes%20-%20%20TC55_RevAPlus_GMS_01%2074G_v10.htm
According to the support email they sent me, to get the actual release you need to perform the following arcane ritual:
Resolution Type is : Software Download
Resolution Id is : 95562
Resolution Title is : TC55 Update Image v1.74 with GMS (Google Mobile Service) Release Note & Factory Reset & Enterprise Enabler package
restrictedSW :
T55N0JGMVRUEN17400.zip 321 MB TC55 OS Recovery Update package
T55N0JGMVAUEN17400.apf 321 MB TC55 OS update package file for deployment using MSP
If you require access to OS files for TC55 1.74 GMS then call the local Support Desk and provide following information:
a. Site ID
b. Serial #(s)
c. Phone #
d. Customer name (First and Last)
e. E-mail address

Don't ask me what the local support desk number is, or the site ID, or why they have to make this so complicated.
Hi Elanguescence,
I think I screwed up my tc55 by enabling the multiuser function without first creating the white list. Now all the users (with admin rights) does not have access to all the programs, including Applock Administrator and Multiuser administrator.
To cut things short, do you know of a way to reset the device? I don't mind setting it to factory default and start over. I've googled it and some said to launch Rapid Deployment and scan a barcode from there... but my Rapid Deployment just says "Service Not Ready, Please Wait" and get stuck there.
Any help appreciated. Thank you.
Any TC55 users here? Should be getting my unit w/ GMS soon... How do you guys like it?
Is the bootloader locked?

Hey!
I want to Buy one TC55 for me. Normally i hate Android and the Google stuff on the Phone but some Motorola Salesman told me there is a version with out.
Now i use an Sybian Device. That mean i am "offline" the hole time and when i need Internet the Phone connect the the Internet.
So how about that phone can i work "offline" to?
I will also use an VPN Tunnel to block on my backend all Connnection i dont want. Does all Data trough this VPN Tunnel ?
How about the Barcode Scanning does it work good?
I know for 2D i need to use the Cam but how works it when i am in some other Application?
Nobody?
Ok. I just bought a TC55 from a Friend and I was wondering if someone would post the update to get GSM and the Factory Reset packages. I went to the page and it requires all the information posted above before. Mine is rooted, but i am trying to install GAPS but the recovery is the basic and cannot. I manually installed Google Play and the Google Play Services but Google Play services keep crashing and the Play Store will not connect, any ideas ?
the are 2 versions one with google s... service and the other without.
So i belive you have the first?
(Can i ask you some question about that phone?)
