OP 8 Global to T-Mobile - OnePlus 8 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone.
Can anyone please give me a guide on how to convert my IN2015 from the global software to T-Mobile? I want to try the 5G SA and T-Mobile modem. I tried this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...l-to-restore-your-device-to-oxygenos.4093043/ and that bricked my phone, probably because it specifically says only for the T-Mobile version. I got into the Fastboot mode, and was able to get the phone recovered.
There are plenty of guides for converting the T-Mobile version to global, but not the other way around.
Thanks!

I held down the volume up & down buttons while plugging in, but nothing ever happened on the screen. I assumed something like a bootloader screen would display on the phone. Afterwards, I got it into the bootloader menu, then choose Start, and it restarted correctly.

Is there any method to unlock bootloader (for op8 tmobile conversion into global) without getting unlock token?

^This. You need to sim unlock before converting to international, or you will be unable to unlock the bootloader and have OEM unlocking. At least until they fix the MSM to be able to skip sim unlocking.

Yes, you can try it that way. If the device is already fully paid off you can also simply contact Tmobile and they will be able to sim unlock it for you already as well, or if you haven't paid off and want to chance it, you can try contacting them on twitter or through the tmobile app and try to get the customer service rep to unlock it. Though if you haven't paid it off it's probably easier and faster to DM the OP from that thread.

I have the international version and am also stuck with the greyed out OEM Unlocking option. My bootloader is also still locked. Any help would be very much appreciated. I have tried using fastboot to oem unlock but I get this error
FAILED (remote: Please enable OEM unlocking in developer options first)
finished. total time: 0.007s
It was on a Chinese ROM before and I did use https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/Fulldowngrade_wipe_18821_190425_0253_user_fix_revision_MP_release.zip to downgrade so I could switch to the English ROM.
I also have a one plus 7 pro. It has been carrier unlocked but still the OEM unlock is greyed out. It is running Android 10. Is there a way to 'ungrey' the OEM unlock option? Thx
Do a search for this "The T-Mobile OnePlus 7 Pro’s bootloader can be unlocked by flashing Android Q" and fallow the instructions. Instruction are on xda.
There is no need to unlock the sim on the T-Mobile phone to unlock the bootloader.
Phone needs to be on the international firmware. This can be done with the patched msm tool. Then downgrade to android development preview 3 using local upgrade on phone. Unlock via fastboot and finally root and install a working rom or do the rollback to android p via local upgrade. Search for the guide and fallow the instructions. It really simple.
Kind of related. I converted my t mobile oneplus 7 pro to the international version and am eligible for a sim unlock. I tried to do it over chat but they said since it's not their version of android I would have to do a factory reset (which wouldn't convert it back to t-mobile stock) in order to sim unlock it, does anyone know how to sim unlock it on the international version with t-mobiles help. I would have thought t-mobile could just do it on their end but I guess not, and I guess they are kind of idiots over there to, because initially they had no idea what i meant when i said i converted it to the international version (heck they still didn't understand that I changed the firmware/ROM) so resetting it wouldn't make it a t-mobile phone again.

OnePlus 7 Pro T-Mobile network locked after android 10 open beta update

Hi, so I had converted my T-Mobile OP7 to the international version. I then contacted T-Mobile and got my phone unlocked. After that I updated my OP7 to Android 10 open beta yet somehow my phone became networked locked. I tried everything from trying to use the T-Mobile unlock app again to resetting the entire phone. Still no dice. Will I have to downgrade or are there any solutions to this? Thanks in advance

Well you have to downgrade in the first place to use the T-Mobile unlock app, if it isn't unlocking your phone that's because the line is locked.
Try and download device unlock for pixel only from the playstore and see if that works.
flash back to Tmobile ROM and unlock via the Tmobile unlock app. thats what i had too do

How do you back up the T-Mo modems without going thru the T-Mo bootloader token unlock? I want to try going back to the T-Mo modems to see if they resolve the issues, and then back them up when to reflash when I go back to the EU load.

No dice. Won't boot to another image unless it's unlocked.
Waiting for the T-Mo token.

Yep. Any critical partition flashing has to be unlocked. There is no other way around it. I've bricked my 9,the one before this one,by flashing the wrong modem on it. Tried MSM and it locked it and I couldn't do anything else to it,meaning flashing anything through bootloader or fastbootd.

Well, I guess it ended up not mattering much in the end. At least for what I was trying to do.
I'm finding T-Mo's service to just be complete crap, and I've determined it's not the phone. I moved 8 lines over from AT&T. Half were BYOD (all unlocked AT&T Samsung devices, and my son's unlocked OP9), and the other half were Samsung and OP phones bought from T-Mo. Everyone's experiencing bad call quality and coverage issues. Both my family and in-laws live within a mile from known T-Mo towers where we live. I live in a major metro area, my in-laws in a rural area. My parents live in a medium sized city. It's gotten unbearable, and at times, my wife and I have had to resort to texting due to the call quality just being so bad. Cutting out, garbled, etc.
In-laws also have T-Mo's home internet and are having issues with that.
I don't get it despite everything good I've read about T-Mo. None of us had these issues with AT&T.
I'm going to try to work it out with T-Mo, but at least for the time being, I'll just go back to the European ROM. There's no difference in the call quality anyway, and at least there I have root again.
If i flash the T-mo firmware to a global model, will I be unable to unlock the bootloader simply with the adb command, or will I have to go through all the hoops as if I bought the phone directly from t-mobile?

I'm gonna use the T-Mobile sim card on a global version of the phone. So theoretically the phone would already have been sim unlocked out of the box. What I'm asking is, if i choose to use the T-Mobile msm on the unlocked global model, will it carrier lock me in? If not that means all i have to do is go to developer options and use the unlock command, right?

Use the instructions in this thread to convert to the European version, no need to unlock the bootloader if you don't want to/have to:

Just follow the 7 steps. Super easy and takes just about 5 minutes from start to finish.

Yes, your warranty will be void but unless you're really rough physically with your phone, there's almost nothing you can do to it that the folks here at XDA can't fix!

The link I provided will convert your T-Mobile version (KB2007) to the EU version (KB2003).
If you need to go back to the T-Mobile version, there is a separate MSM tool to do that, it will also relock the bootloader at the same time for warranty purposes.

Flashing to a different firmware does not alter the SIM lock/unlock state. If your device is SIM locked to T-Mobile, it will remain SIM locked to T-Mobile after flashing to the Global, EU, or other regional firmware. T-Mobile devices can only be SIM unlocked on the T-Mobile firmware.

Possible to Downgrade From Android 11 to 10 on XT2113-2? If so, how?

I have a new XT2113-2 (TM) that is yet to be boot loader unlocked/rooted/etc. I don't want to do that until I am sure. I got this variant of the phone so I could unlock the bootloader, root, TWRP, etc and was afraid the "global" variant -3 might not work with USA 5G. The phone came with Android 11 installed (and has since auto-installed at least one security update). It shows the build as RZKS31.Q3-45-16-3-11 and the baseband ends with Kiev_TMO_CUST. I am using it on ATT (via Red Pocket) since TM service just sucks where I live. And I do get the 5G icon on it now.
But ideally, I want to get this to the original TM Android 10, which I think is shown here as the file XT2113-2_KIEV_TMO_10_QZKS30.Q4-40-95-6_subsidy-TMO_SPR_RSU_QCOM_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip as I hope it will undo some of the "security" crap Google has added to Android with each successive release.
So I need to be sure of the following:
1. Can I downgrade from 11 to 10?
2. Is there some reason to NOT use the firmware mentioned above? Should I use retail US (RETUS) instead? I am not sure the differences (it would be great if that would permit me to use this phone on Red Pocket Verizon but the IMEI now shows as incompatible on Verizon).
3. Must I unlock the boot loader to downgrade? I know I must to do other stuff and I have the unlock code on hand and ready to put it if needed. If I must unlock the boot loader to downgrade, will I have to re-unlock it afterwards? And, if so, will I have to go through the same process of getting a code or will the code I have now work?
4. How do I flash to do the downgrade? I have the Lenovo Rescue/Smart Assistant installed on my PC and was able to download the stock firmware (I assume it matches what is on there now) and stashed it aside. But is there some other tool needed?
5. Once I achieve downgrade, what is the best way to avoid having the thing auto-update to Android 11?
Thanks for your help with these questions.
If you are going to take this phone to AT&T, you will not get 5G if you unlock the bootloader. The NR band will be restricted. Downgrading from 11 to 10 generally doesn't work either.
I can't answer the rest of your questions.

Thanks for this response. I do have it on ATT (via Red Pocket) now and it does appear to get 5G now. I have not yet unlocked the bootloader, was thinking to do it, but considering that it would cause loss of 5G I think I will not and will just return the phone. Wow!

BTW - have you any references on this behavior? I am wondering if this is something that would affect ALL phones with unlocked boot loaders (like Pixel, OnePlus, etc). Thanks for the heads-up.
WARNING: ONLY DO THAT IF YOU ARE REALLY SURE AND DO BE CAREFULLY. I recommend you: do it not.
By downgrading to an older software, the bootloader in many cases can be destroyed, so your phone is completly bricked!
I write this from EXPERIENCE. My amazon fire is completed bricked, when i have flash a older SYSTEM. It can't turn on, no fastboot, no recovery!

Thanks. Yet another reason to dislike ATT, I guess. Sadly, in my area TM coverage stinks. And this phone will not work on Verizon (unclear why but they reject the IMEI). And getting the Verizon variant will preclude ever rooting the thing. So I really feel trapped!
