My new Note 20 Ultra seemed defective because it would not measure heart rate in the Samsung Health app. I sent it to the repair station in Texas. They said the phone was working properly and sent it back. Still no ability to measure heart rate. Called Samsung Customer Service and was informed that the Note 20 Ultra did not have a heart rate sensor.
previous note 10 didn't have it either. what made you think it had inbuilt heart sensor?
This just made me laugh
When buying a phone read specifications of it and don't guess it has heart rate sensor. If it did it would be near camera lens. But note 10 and note 20 has not got this. Last phone having it is note series was note 9 and in s series it was s10 series having it last time. S20 and newer does not and note 10 and newer also do not have it.
My last phone, a S10 had it and my wife's current phones a S9+ and a Note 9 both have it.
When I upgraded to the Note 20 Ultra I erroneously assumed that since it was a top of the line phone that it would also have it.
There is an item in the camera group that I thought was the heart rate sensor. It is not labeled on page 5 of the manual. Turns out that it is the Laser AF Sensor. My erroneous assumption.
Very true. Even when I shifted to Note 20 Ultra from Note 9 was surprised to find out that no heart rate sensor was there on the device.
For a top of the line phone this seemed surprising.
Note 9 user here. Apart from the standard heart rate and SpO2 sensors, I believe that another app can do that using the normal lens next to the flash. At least on mine it does and the results are pretty much similar to what the dedicated sensors give.
I don't know whether that could work if the sensors are missing, but you can give it a try. iCare health monitor is called

I am not a developer and not capable of doing lot of work many people do here. I just read and follow instructions. I have been very happy with my experience. This time around I have an idea that I would like to share/suggest. Again, I am not capable of doing this myself. I am presenting this idea to all the capable developers here. I did search and did not find any posting, so I am making my own.
I have just learned that Samsung Note 4 has Oxygen sensor and UV sensor in addition to heart rate monitor on the back. Well, looking at the Note 4 it does not appear to have additional hardware compared to S5. This heart rate monitor is actually red/infrared sensor - again common to both devices. Oxygen sensors (commercial) use red light wavelength 660 nM and infrared light at 940 or 880 nM (depending on the manufacturer) and by measuring the light absorption of these two wavelengths they calculate hemoglobin oxygen value. Well, Samsung has used the same mechanism for Note 4.
My suggestion for the devs is to extract the code from Note 4 and make an apk that can be used for S5, making S5 capable of monitoring oxygen and UV values!

Well if they are in fact the same sensors the note uses im sure we'll see the feature in a future update, perhaps lollipop?
No such update
I have heard that shealth got an update with sp02 and uv monitoring but I don't see them in my s5 yet. Were they removed or they were not released in the first place.
I just installed Galaxy Sensors from the Google Play Store. Humidity shows up and the reading and is within 2% of my digital in home humidistat. I thought the Note 5 didn't have a humidity sensor. Looks like it does to me. So did I read incorrectly and can anyone else corroborate that the note 5 does indeed have this sensor present?
Hi I've still got my note 9 till the jiffy bag come for it and next to my note 10 plus when watching the same hdr video on both displays the note 9 seems to get quite a bit brighter is this something to do with note 10 calibration as I thought the note 10 was the brighter display
Thanks
Yes, the Note 10 plus display was tested and beat the Note 9 in every category. It is currently ranked the number one display in all smart phones.

How come when side by side when watching the same video the note 9 seems alot brighter with both phones having the same settings ect
I've done this and it seems a bit better just the note 9 seems more vivid and brighter on videos am I right in assuming it's the way the note 10 is calabrated?
Just watching hdr videos on youtube the note 9 definitely brighter and more punchy side by side but both in the setting menu ect they both seem equal (maybe the note 9 slightly brighter)
Is there a reason for this of might I have a defect I'm thinking it maybe something to do with Samsung removing more of the blue light in the dynamic amoled and been calibrated differently
Just want some confirmation before I send my note 9 back to samsung lol does anyone still have there note 9 to compare
Many thanks
Right just had both displays with adaptive brightness Same setting ect and shines a light to them both and the note 10 definitely get brighter then the note 9 so I'm assuming the dimmer video on youtube ect is down to Samsung going for a more natural look
Just hope in the future they bring back adaptive setting so we can have the more punchy colours because vivid isnt a patch on adaptive setting on the note 9:silly:
Note9 vivid is on by default. Note10 is normal by default
Then you have to add you may "unlocked" the last 10% of the Note9 for brightness and You didn't with the Note10.
My Note10 is about the same brightness than my Note9 fresh out of the box both is vivid and normal mode. I didn't unlock the last 10%

I've put both phones in performance mode put the note 9 in adaptive mode and the note 10 in vivid
The note 9 is still brighter and more vivid in videos compared to my note 10 I think it's the whole "natural" look samsung is going for I briefly had the xperia 1 and that was the same next tom my note 9
Just seem a little washed out the note 10 next to the note 9

Hi mate, well it's seems its not only mine note 10 plus it's a little bit washed in color, I bought in the beginning of this month, make all the updates, inclusive android 10 and reset after, my note 9 too android 10 and reset, and start comparing both, and notice the screen looks better in note 9, I even go to store to compare to others news, and it's the same, it's seems more vivid and accurate, both with QHD and note 10 plus seems in FHD, but that it's not the major problem, its the blacks, but only in low light, I noticed low light note 9 are more blacks, and note 10 are more dark grey, I don't know if it is because the screen is more bright outdoors or need a update, or dinamic amoled Is very different from super amoled, note 10 don't have the option of adaptive display, could be one of the reasons.
I,m using yet the note note9, because I was thinking in trade for a new one.
Do you still have both phones?
Thanks

Hi I dont have the note 9 no more but I've compared the note 10 plus to the missues iPhone 11 pro max and the iphone seems to be the brighter display and the whites on the iphone are incredible (just my opinion)
It really shows when playing hdr via youtube the iphone display crushes my note 10 in terms of brightness and colours popping
Not sure why I've tried tweaking around but the display just doesnt compare
I personally think it's something to do with the blue light filter samsung added to there dynamic panels and possible loading adaptive display mode didn't help lol
I'd still chose my note over the iPhone though
Some leakers claimed that the Note 20 line would use the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max fingerprint sensor. Considering how awful the previous fingerprint technology was in S10, Note 10 and S20 lines, I expected Samsung to tout the new and improved tech in Note 20 presentation, yet there was not a single word said about it. Nor can I find any mention of it anywhere yet. This gives me a feeling that they are using the same crappy sensor they've used for the past 2 years. If that's the case, I will not be buying the Note 20, for there is absolutely nothing that frustrates me more about my current S10+ than the fingerprint scanner that only works half the time, only on the 2nd or 3rd try or sometimes refuses to work all together.
Anyone has any knowledge of what's happening on that front?
Samsung's Note 20 ultra webpage just states that the fingerprint reader is ultrasonic. Doesn't mention who manufactured it.
Just watched one of the first hands-on reviews and apparently the 3D Sonic Max fingeeprint sensor that Qualcomm showed off last December did NOT make it into the Note line. I am beyond disappointed, because I feel that the retarded fingerprint scanner Samsung has been using for the past couple of years is the weakest and the most frustrating "feature" of their premium phones. That and the lack of rumored LTPS display along with the 25W "fast" charging are enough for me to skip the Note 20 Ultra, just like it was enough for me to send back the S20+ after a couple of days.
What a letdown! My S10+ is 18 months old at this point and I was so excited reading all the leaks, expecting Note 20 Ultra to fix the biggest painpoints. It did not. I can't justify its price tag, even with a $550 trade-in credit I can get.
I guess I can hang out yet another 6 months, waiting for the S21/S30 or maybe look to a different manufacturer. I feel that over the past couple of years Samsung has been concentrating on all the wrong things and skyrocketing prices are not supported by the level of innovation (or lack thereof).
Guessing new version might be in S21
Do you have a link to the review? thx

Edit: found the correct review
I just watched a review video by Lisa Gade from MobileTech Reviews https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkMtRzlR-so
She has always complained about how poor the fingerprint scanner was on previous Notes and S-Series devices, but she said the one on the Note 20 Ultra is much improved and had no issues with it. So hopefully we might have a better experience.
.
AFAIK same as note10/s20 1st gen qualcomm ultrasonic sensor.
Two reviews have said it's a lot better than the S20 Ultra. I hope they're right!
This is funny to me because I've had zero problems with the sensor on the galaxy tab s6.
I have zero problems on my Note 10+ since they updated it. Before that, it was crap. I barely have to touch it now.

once i removed the factory screen protector my
note 10 plus worked way better.
with it on Id say it worked 70% of the time the first time, which is much better than my S10 plus was.
I've never had any issues with the FPS on the S10+ (US) but that maybe luck. The S20+ that I've used also had no issues but seems to be faster.
Ultra fps is much better compare to my note 10 plus.
Hi good folks!
I want to upgrade from a note8 to a new phone but the more I read the more questions I have. I have chosen to settle for the 20 line because of the card slot and s21 and s22 don't have it. Apart the SD card slot, I need a long sot and great caméras (i travel à lot)
Anyway I have a couple of questions and I hope you'll be able to answer them! Thank you!
1. The note20 ultra has a variable refresh rate. Does it means it can do 1440p at a vrr of 45 to 120hz? And it also means the sot lasts longer?
2. The s20 ultra has a bigger battery and in most of the tests the sot is between 10 and 13 hours. Compared to the note20u at 7 to 10. Is that what you've seen also?
3. Cameras. The main camera picture quality is almost the same but I wanted to talk about selfies. I think the s20u has better selfies than the note. Is that true?
4. A 3z5mm jack would be a blessing but they dont produce it anymore?
Which one would you chose? Or maybe I should go with another phone like the Xperia 1 Mk. 3? Or maybe the v60?
Hello. I have some ansvers on your questions.
1. WlQHD goes only 60Hz, but FHD+ has Adaptive screen rate switching from 1Hz up to 120Hz.
2. No abswer on this question. With my usage Note 20 Ultra is good. I'm happy.
3. Camera on Note 20 Ultra is better then S20 Ultra. And S20 Ultra has focus issue. But if we look wide then there are many scenarios which depends of light, background and situation.
4. No 3.5mm jack. So you have to use usb-c dongle.

1. That's a bummer
2. And how long can your phone last with GPS, BT and LTE connected?
3. Good to know! And what about the selfie camera?
4. No problem.
Overall, would you recommend this phone?
2. With my usage all day. In the evening when I'm going to sleep I put on charge.

Hello friend, I have the Note 20 Ultra (ex990) and I will try to clarify your doubts a bit:
1: The note 20 Ultra has VRR but at 1080p, it varies between 48hz-120hz, the way it works is as simple as if you don't touch the screen for 3s, it lowers the frequency normally to 60hz, from my point of view could have been implemented better...
2: I've had the S20 Ultra for 6 months as well, and I can tell you that I didn't notice any big difference in battery life, the S20U lasts a bit longer in certain situations (idle for example) but the difference isn't noticeable. The battery in general with the 990 ranges between 4h and 6.5h SOT at 120hz, and 5.5h and 8h at 60hz 2K.
3: I would like to say that the rear camera of the Note 20U seems much better to me because they fixed the problems that the S20U had, the selfie camera is definitely better in the S20U, but both are so good that it should not be a determining aspect.
4: The 3.5mm connector is doomed to disappear but Samsung includes a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter, it is a useful solution if you want to continue using your wired headphones, it is also worth noting that in Europe it includes very good quality AKG headphones in the box (USB-C).
