How to enter SIM unlock code in Verizon's Galaxy Note 20 Ultra? - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Hi Guys, I've got unlock code for Verizon's SM-N986U but can't access the code entry window.
1. It doesn't ask for unlock code when I insert GSM SIM card and restart it.
2. It doesn't react for USSD commands such as #7465625*638*# and #0111*
It seems USSD commands are already disabled by Verizon or Samsung.
As I know USSD commands still work on carrier free models so is it possible to flash with unlocked firmware and try to enter unlock code?
Other unlock suggestions will be also appreciated.
Be safe and healthy!

As far as I know the unlocking is done OTA by Verizon and not by code entry. If you qualify for network unlocking give them a call and have them unlock it.
Flashing unlocked firmware has no impact or bearing on network unlock and will not help you in this case.

Hello, owner of a Note 20 Ultra from verizon, I've gone thru all this many times.
1. Verizon Auto unlocks device from network after 60 day. Only time the put any re-lock on device is the financial lock for unpaid financing.
2. Current carrier firmware does not support auto switching to new carrier SIM, must be flashed with correct CSC.
3. We are waiting for samsung to push the ota out that unlocks auto switching feature.
5. US Based samsung phones on US Cellular, Verizon and ATT do not have software unlock code support.
Hope this helps anyone else trying to use carrier sold device on another carrier.

Verizon now seels their phones locked and automatically unlock them after 60 days. If it's still sim locked the device was either never activated on verizon and or less than 60 days which leads me to ask why it was sold

There are no unlock codes for verizon. They automatically unlock em after like 60 days now. It's a new theft prevention put in place about July of last year or before

This is correct. Supposed to be auto after like 60 days. Which leads me to believe the device is subsidized by verizon. If the owner here bought it it may not be paid off or amount owed on account

As I understand the unlock code provided by Unlock Panda, isn't legit and can't unlock the phone.
So is there any way to flash it with correct CSC and unlock it?

It must be on Verizon firmware. And active on Verizon account. only way. For a minimum of 60 day or whatever is needed to satisfy their requirements

Verizon support says the phone is already unlocked but in fact it doesn't accept GSM card. Whe I power it on with GSM card inside, it shows the LTE icon, which instantly dissappears when the phone is fully booted.
I have flashed from Verizon's locked SM-N986U to unlocked SM-N986U and then flashed back to Verizon. May it had some impact on network reception?

If it's not showing sim card not accepted. There would be some dialogue like that.
They will a lot say this sim is not from verizon but that's just them telling you. Don't mean it's not locked. Have you attempted to put in your carriers apn settings. I know on some devices they won't grab any service or anything without apn fully setup
Then yes it's unlocked and it's a different issue

Lets start everything from the beggining. By default device was on Verizon's locked N986USQS1BTJ8 firmware. My SIM card didn't work or ask for network unlock. I wasn't able to apply network unlock code even with USSD commands as it works with lot of devices.
So I flashed it to unlocked N986U1UES1ATJ3 firmware. When I restarted the device, it showed my SIM card and started working for five minutes. After five minutes a pop up window showed up asking for unlock code. The code I was provided by Unlock Service didn't work and the signal dissapeared again.
Finally I have switched back to default Verizon's N986USQU1BTIB_CHA Firmware and contacted Their Twitter Support. They confirmed that the phone is unlocked and suggested to contact my local Carrier.
As it was in the beginning, The SIM card and LTE icon still shows up on the boot, but after couple of seconds it dissapears again. APN settings for this SIM card are checked and active.

Couple things... If I look up the BTIB firmware I don't see that as an option for Verizon on SamMobile. I do see it as an option for Xfinity/Charter phones. I know that was one of the firmware releases for my Spectrum Mobile phone.
Second give more details on where the phone came from (i.e. was it from and network locked too Spectrum Mobile, Xfinity Mobile, Verizon, etc), where are you trying to use the phone at (and with whom) and who told you to contact the local carrier (was it the place that sold you the unlock code)? Are you using the phone within the USA or outside the USA?
If the place that sold you the network code said to contact the carrier then you should do so... If the carrier the phone is actually locked too said to contact the carrier your trying to use the phone at, then do so. It maybe possible your using the phone on a carrier that doesn't fully support it, or hasn't properly provisioned/configured it.
If your using the phone outside of the USA you might run into issues with compatibility...

Hi Scott,
1. I have downloaded BTIB firmware from this XDA thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-20-ultra/how-to/ota-ota-firmware-n986u-t4143833
Should I try another one? For example this one?
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note-20-ultra-5g/firmware/SM-N986U1/VZW/#SM-N986U1
2. By default the phone was Verizon's network locked N986U. I'm trying to use it in Georgia (Country not a US State) where usually all global phones (2G,3G,LTE) work without any problem.
In fact the phone sees local SIM card before it's fully booted, then SIM stops working. Local carrier is Magticom, APN is activated and checkmarked but there is no connection (please see the screens).
Scr 1 and 2. In the moment when phone starts SIM card is functional.
Scr 3. Shortly SIM card goes offline as seen in SIM status section.
Scr 3. APN is configured and checked automatically, which means, phone has recognized the SIM.
As I figured out, new Verizon phones didn't have an option to enter network unlock code. But my code was provided as a primary unlock solution from third party unlock service (Unlock Panda). So as I had a code, I tried to flash it to unlocked firmware (to gain access to unlock code entry window) but this method failed as I got a message that the code was incorrect. After this fail I tried to switch back to Verizon firmware and flashed to BTIB (I'm not sure anymore, if I flashed proper firmware).
So I have a phone which doesn't work with any of three Georgian Mobile Carriers while Verizon Support says that the phone isn't locked and it should work.
Best Regards,
Zaza

Question, how did you get the phone to begin with?
Also was the phone within the USA when the 60 day period with Verizon had passed and Verizon had sent the network unlock information to the phone. I believe it is still true that in order for the phone to actually unlock you need to be within the USA running stock Verizon firmware.
If the phone is indeed truly network unlocked I am suspecting a compatibility issue with the carrier here, since the phone was originally sold for use within the USA.

I hazard a guess that by OP flashing it to U1 to force enter purchased unlock code is what caused this issue. Since my research concludes that locked Verizon note 20 ultra requires remote unlocking and doesn't work with a code method. He's effectively flashed to U1 to force device to prompt him to enter a code that wont work.

Yup... The OP's images that were posted show that the phone is not connecting to the network, whether it be a result of compatibility issues or network lock.
Because the OP is trying to use the phone overseas I really think that one of the two issues maybe what's going on:
The phone was purchased locked and removed from the USA before Verizon was able to unlock it.
The phone is not compatible with the network the OP is trying to connect it with
I would be inclined to think that the second issue maybe what is going on, but the first option is also very much probable as the OP did not really say how the phone was purchased (nor why they didn't just get the international model to begin with).

The OP wouldn't need to go that far... It's really just a matter of one of two probable scenarios.
If the OP's phone is actually and truly network unlocked then the issue is that of compatibility with the carrier he/she is attempting to use. For this the OP would have to work with the carrier to resolve the issue, or purchase a phone that was sold for that region.
If the OP's phone isn't actually network unlocked then the OP is out of luck unless he/she can do one of the following:
obtain an unlocked phone
bring the phone back into the USA and have Verizon complete the unlock process
Because the OP was trying to obtain an unlock code even though for what ever reason Verizon said the phone was unlocked gives me pause to offer any other suggestions or remedies. Perhaps the OP is telling the truth or it was a matter of timing (the code was purchased before Verizon said the phone was unlocked) or the OP is intentionally/accidentally omitting information which indicates a different scenario.
Ultimately in the end the answer to the OP's question unlocking the phone is done OTA by Verizon and not by USSD code entry.

[Discussion] Let's Brainstorm a SIM Unlock. (Unlocked Sprint Owners Please Help).

I have a few ideas about a possible unlock for the Sprint variant of the Essential Phone.
Summary:
Basically, it revolves around modifying the value of an item in the nv-data partition that contains the sim lock status.
This method is based on:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...int-xt1056-t2825155/post54338871#post54338871
Possible Solution:
1. Getting a backup of the nv-data from a locked Sprint phone and an unlocked Sprint phone,
2. Comparing the items from my locked phone and another locked phone and finding the items that have same value
3. Comparing the items found in step two to the items from the unlocked sprint phone and possibly finding an item that is different.
4. Writing the value of the found item to a locked phone and seeing if it becomes unlocked.
How you can help make this solution a reality:
We need backed up nv-data from at least one locked and one unlocked sprint phone, here is how you can back it up.
1. Open the dialer and input the secret code *#*#3424#*#*
2. On this screen enter 000000 and tap confirm (very great for us that essential left the default msl value).
3. On this screen check the diagnostic mode and close the app.
4. Download and extract the nv-data reader on a PC http://phonegeek.us/NV-items_reader_writer.rar
5. Connect your phone, in device manager, a new Qualcomm device should appear.
6. Run the program, in the top bar: select the com port (it should be shown in device manager), check both of the boxes in the top bar, and click connect.
7. Now in the top bar click read, if the log says "Log message: > SPC is correct. Phone unlocked" you have done everything correctly so far. (The unlocked part has nothing to do with the SIM lock status)
8. Under "Range (Dec):" enter 0 to 07300 and click read (07233 seems to be the last useful value but a little buffer is good)
9. Save the file with any name you like and send me a private message with it.

People have gotten their phone unlocked by paying it off and waiting a few days for it to unlock. Sprint seems to have disabled this method. Another way is staying with sprint for 50 days and then requesting unlock code. One more way is to "social engineer" a sprint rep into unlocking your phone YMMV. EDIT: This method could possibly if it works guarantee an instant and permanent unlock for all carriers worldwide.

Not a hack, no. You could get Sprint service and keep it for 50 days and then request that they unlock the phone. Other than that, you're screwed.

Paying it off and waiting a few days for it to unlock often only results in a domestic unlock, not an international unlock. If you social engineer a Sprint rep, all you're likely to get is a temporary international unlock. Then it'll relock itself in 30 days. Currently, the only way to guarantee a full unlock is to wait 50 days with active Sprint service.

how you get that
Settings, About Phone, OMADM Updates, UICC Unlock.
My PH-1 was bought outright from Sprint, no financing/contract, nothing of that sort. (Not sure if that matters or makes a difference). I never called in or requested an unlock.

Yes you bought your phone outright so I believe Sprint is required to unlock it, this is for people who bought it on a lease and then paid it of, some people on leased phones got them unlocked, some people were able to pay it off and then unlock it through that menu, however it looks like Sprint disabled that method. Since your phone is a Sprint unlocked phone your nv-data would be useful if you are willing to share it. One other thing you should check is whether your phone works with non-American SIM cards.

Sprint will still unlock the phone automatically after payoff. It's just that Sprint will relock it to prevent reselling.
It's actually kind of lame, considering they are required by the FTC/FCC to unlock their devices when they are paid off.

According to Slickdeals Sprint has disabled the auto unlock after payoff the only way to unlock now is to stay with them for 50 days. There have also been many reports on Slickdeals of people's unlocked phones relocking. That is why developing this method is super important and why we need people to send their nv-data because right now it's our best shot at a permanent solution.
How do they relock?
Say when I'm using tmobile, is there a program that runs in the back ground that checks with Sprint via web and relock?

Mine did. It was unlocked for around a month and then Sprint locked it when I was using a different sim card in a foreign country.
The device has not been reported as lost or stolen, associated with fraudulent activity, or otherwise flagged as ineligible to be unlocked
Maybe the devices are being relocked because sprint thinks the activity people are doing ie "paying off the lease on 5 phones the first day then cancelling after 3 days" is fraudulent ???
Sounds like there is a program that has to be run for the phone to sim unlock.
Maybe the program is what's needed for it to stick?
Otherwise once a sprint sim is reinserted it may relock according to the huge slickdeals thread.
My device was unlocked about 36 hours after paying it off. Then a few days later I was locked to Sprint again.
From what I'm reading Sprint can relocked it as long as a Sprint sim in inserted.

Did you have a Sprint sim inserted?
The relock probably happens through the com.redbend.app also known as the Sprint OMA-DM app uninstalling it might fix the issue. However, I don't know for certain and we need an unlocking method anyway can any of you share your nv-data?
Received my phone in 12/15 and paid off the lease the next day, but never got an unlock I think they nerfed the automatic unlock. Has anyone have luck with this method?
whymoo the numbers in your steps in your instructions are off.
Plus, I'm open to help but I'm a total noob at doing something like this. You're going to have to explain things more after the 4th step so it could be as painless and easy and then I definitely do it!

Sprint Galaxy s8 sim unlock

Hey there, I want to sim unlock this Gs8 I got from Sprint, Model: Sm-G950U , Software version: G950USQS2BQL1, I received an unlock code but was not able to input the code because it just said sim error contact sprint immediately, Unlocking by sprint isn't a choice as they extorted money out of me, I really want my galaxy s8 to be in service again any Idea where to start? Any help will be much appreciated , I come from a background of good software knowledge so other approaches are good too.
Sprint extorted money out of you?
Extortion is illegal in this country...
Does your phone asks for codes or not?
If it doesn't ask for code you can try the following 3 methods, however, they are not 100% guarantee to work:
Method #1: Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press #7465625*638*# Once prompted for code, enter the 8 digit Unlock Code.
Method #2: Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press: #7465625*638*UNLOCKCODE#
Method #3: Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press: #0111*UNLOCKCODE#
If none of these work, also check if your phone's IMEI is clean and not reported or blacklisted by Sprint.
Sprint phones are usually unlocked one of two ways and neither has anything to do with a code. One is via Sprint with an OTA thing. The other is via root + a 3rd party tool like z3x, Octopus, or something similar.
Hi! I live in Ukraine and I am thinking about buying sprint S8 bad esn on Ebay. Will it work internationally (in Ukraine)? Do I have to unlock it to use internationally? I had many Verizon bad esn phones and all of them work perfectly.

Need to SIM unlock Sprint galaxy s8 (also fear it may be "black listed" unpaid lease)
I bought the phone from someone and thought it would work but I was trusting instead of smart.. Should've checked it out first. Anyways im negative a couple hundred $$ and I would love if some one would be able to help guide me through unlocking the SIM and if necessary rooting etc. To make it work for my Metro PCS account. In short I need to be able to I assume "SIM unlock" my S8 and hope it'll just be ready to pop my metro SIM into it and it works. Any advice? Will it work if I can just unlock it and use my metro SIM? Or since its an the lease hadnt been fully paid will that be a problem... Ive checked on a couple sites that let you see the IMEI number and if its black listed but it isn't... Please help.

Correct. It IS an advertisement - and not a very good one. He obviously has no knowledge of phones whatsoever if he thinks that Sprint devices use codes
I too have a Sprint phone which I wanted to unlock with the help of information here on the site. Since you won't be able to use unlock codes, and also bcause when I called Sprint they wouldn't help me -told me to contact the seller of the phone to have it unlocked, I was desperate for any unlocking method. Hard to find a working one and didn't want to waste too much time (old Galaxy S5 was already at it's last breath) I made contact with one of the unlockers here on XDA and one was able to unlock it remotely for me. I did pay $15 but with the crappy internet I have and since most unlocking sites are asking $39 for unlocking S8 then I really didn't mind this $15. Took well over a few hours to do since I had to download combination file for my phone which took a while. It's unlocked now thanx to vosi7en here at xda. I do have 1 problem now and that's tethering.....I don't have the option to do any hotspots. Anyone have an idea? I can't root yet cuz I'm on latest Oreo now.

I'm not sure what a "tmobile for vzw sim" is. But you might need to remove the Sprint bloatware in order for it to work properly

need help tmobile device unlock app not working

Ok so I'm in tmobile prepaid.
I have a galaxy s10e that is was purchased full price from someone else. We verified everything at a tmobile store. The unlock was approved and i got the email approval. The tmobile device unlock app for this phone doesn't work. So I have to go to settings>network>more>network unlock
Or something like that. I get an error message that ends in 0x86
On both temp and perm unlock
I already went through it with tech support 17 diff calls. Nothing. Nobody knows what this error is. Ine tech guy gave me two sets of numbers. Both 8 digits. I believe these are the nck or unlock codes but my question or rather what I need help in is inputting these codes. I tried the generic ones I found online to no avail. The dial codes is what I'm talking about. Also when I reset with unlocked rom it still says to put tmobile sim. And doesn't give me a option to input unlock code that I have
I even called Samsung and they cant help me bc it's a tmobile phone. Tmobile doesn't know how to input the code when I do mention it. And yes I reset the phone put a diff sim. Tried with Abd w/o wifi. Everything.
So now I flashed the U1 rom on it amd the unlock options in the network settings is no longer there. Obviously bc u flashed the unlocked rom on it.
Any suggestions? Tmobile is giving me minimal help bc I'm a prepaid customer

It's locked until you insert a valid, active Verizon SIM into it, and then it unlocks. This is Verizon trying to normalize and eventually skirt around the FCC unlock requirements.

No, this is just how Verizon phones work now. I believe the active SIM has to be in around an hour or so.
I beg to differ I have a Verizon note 10 and it had a active Verizon SIM card but when I insert my cricket SIM it registers for about 45 secs to a min. Then says something about this phone cant be on another network.

Now I don't have any idea how long the active SIM was inserted, so I can't say you aren't correct sir.
They are locked for 60 days as per Verizon, I called them to inquire because I will be traveling internationally and wanted to know if I can use the device with another sim card locally purchased when I am traveling in the EU, they told me their phones are locked for the first 60 days, after that they are unlocked automatically. The policy is on their website too.

Definitely locked for 60 days on Verizon

I called Verizon again just few days prior to my international travel, they agreed to unlock the phone for me! I received a text message that read "Verizon Msg: Once you put a non-verizon SIM car into this device, it'll be unlocked for use on other carrier networks". And when I landed in Austria, purchased a local SIM card, inserted into the phone, then received a message right away that read " Sorry, your device can't be activated on another carrier's network right now. For help, contact Verizon at (800)922-0204 or (888) 294-6804" So I called Verizon, they said the device is unlocked, passed me to the technical team, they said they see the device is unlocked and they were not sure what was going on.. Long story short, the device is still locked. I returned to the US, and been in contact with Verizon trying to figure out what was the issue, because I like my fully paid phone to be unlocked. Will update you once I hear back from them.

Yes, I finally go to speak to someone who knew what he was talking about. Initially when I called them, the tech person said she unlocked the phone, but when she refreshed my account, it shows it was locked again and she did not know what was going on.
Yesterday when I called them, this rep said, new phones are locked for 60 days, and even if we tried to unlocked them manually the system overrides the changes and reverts it back to locked, that's what was happening in my case earlier. He said the to wait for 60 days and try it out. It just passed 60 days for me since I had the phone activated with Verizon, so I tried it last night with T-Mobile SIM card and Austrian one, both worked well! So I guess waiting 60 days is the answer.

I have the same lock issue. The problem is that I'm not the fist owner of the phone and there is no way I can track how many lock days left. The interesting thing about this Verizon lock is that when you insert non-Verizon SIM the phone is not locked straight away. It works as fully unlocked for about 5 min. I guess that it could run longer with no Internet connection. Certainly we need a hacker here .

I had an online chat with Verizon. They kindly told me that couldn't assist me with it without account details which I don't have. That's quite annoying.
So would it be safe to assume that the phones with "bad IMEI" will never get automatically unlocked this way or it won't matter?

This was changed in July. The phone must remain active for 60days before unlocked to another Network.
I am on day 74 and been fighting with Verizon two weeks now to get unlocked. They are all clueless. Phone still locked.
Same issue here. Note10+5G. Day 64 still locked. Tech support can't figure out what is going on. SIM works excellent for the first 30 sec-1 min, then the lock launches and I'm locked out. It's clearly something Verizon screwed up. I've elevated the issue and filed an FCC complaint. I suggest everyone does so too so that we have a case against them since locking past 60 days is a breach of contract and against FCC regulations. They are obligated to reply and compensate for the damage done.
any updates on this unlocking? my 2 devices are past the 60 days and are still locked!

Question App says unlocked, phone stays locked

Had a hell of a time speaking with T-Mobile representatives these last couple of days. Everyone has a different opinion on what I need to do to unlock my S22 Ultra. Just today a guy recommended I download the T-Mobile Device Unlock app off the Play store and it said the following:
"Your device is currently permantently unlocked and allowed to be used with any carrier. Restart your device to apply these changes if your device was previously locked." Yet I do that and it remains locked.
Anyone else had this experience? Not sure what I can do short of returning it.

If you're talking about OEM Unlocking, that is completely separate from carrier lock, and there's little the carrier can do about it.
The device is networked locked to T-Mobile.

No, I'm not. There was apparently someone before me. The phone is paid off and I do believe there isn't any custom firmware on it and I went through a series of updates since getting the phone.
If this indeed is a T-Mobile phone, you shouldn't need the T-Mobile unlock app. Just look around in Settings > Connections & look around for SIM unlock, network unlock or something along those lines (I'm running US unlocked firmware XAA, so, I don't have the unlock in my settings, otherwise, I'd be able to give you the exact terminology).
Anyway, once you've found it, you should be able to check for the SIM Unlock. If it says you're unlocked & you're still having issues, I'd call customer service.

I know that. I've been on the phone with them for over two hours already. I asked them to put in a request to unlock it given the previous owner's contract and filed a complaint with the FCC. The phone SHOULD be eligibile for unlocking but the carrier is just being stubborn.
