Could not find this information anywhere on POCO F2 PRO. Since all my phones were with additional card slots and I am thinking about buying poco, I wonder if there is an option to factory reset this phone but without erasing data from the built in memory. It would be a real pain to have 256GB version filled with photos and other documents and have it removed if I just want refresh the software. I would appreciate some comments on that.

That's a shame so it is like with other phones with built-in memory. Do they at least have some good backup software or offer a cloud?

There is already a fair amount of good backup apps available, even the new Google One which offers free basic backups. For the cloud part, Xiaomi offers 5GB of free storage by default.

However, I might add that MIUI has a built-in backup tool in the settings, though I never used it myself so I can't tell how good or bad it is. Search "MIUI backup" online I guess.

My Samsung Vibrant I bought on Wednesday was stolen last night out of my car. I'm slowing running out of options on tracking it and getting it back. I'm pissed.
In order to protect my other phone, HTC HD2 with Froyo, I want to invest in some security software and found PhoneLocator Pro. I've downloaded it off the market and really like how it works.
I'm concerned however if, by some other unlucky chance this phone gets stolen too, that if the burglar hard-resets the phone. Will this app become entirely useless in this case?
Or another question is what stolen phone locating app / anything do you guys recommend? I want to make sure I'll have any way of getting my property back.

If system apps persist through hard reset (apks in /system/app), and you install it as such (root) there is a possibility you should be OK. However, I think that the settings would be erased and therefore leave it useless. I will give it a test and see as I am curious as well.
---------- Post added at 12:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:52 AM ----------
So I can confirm that although the app does persist through a factory reset, it is useless, lol. I know that PLLocator Pro can backup / restore settings from the SD card but before even getting to that point the app it fails the license check and does not proceed. Oh well.
On a side note, make sure you have it installed as a system app (/system/app) in order to use the "activate gps remotely" feature.
Avast! Mobile Security has hard-reset proof storage of settings and other useful security stuff. And it's free, so it's amazing value for the money .

So I've posted this before on XDA & never got a conclusive answer..
Almost 90% of the time I perform a clean wipe and restore of ROM, Google play will only restore about 50% of my downloaded apps, and the rest I have to manually install by hand in: playstore/my apps/all.
For a guy that has over 200 apps... This is extremely time consuming, extremely annoying and unexplainable...

Why not use titanium backup? Much quicker and probably more reliable. ?
Because we shouldn't need to use 3rd party apps to restore our play store apps.
These are workarounds.. Not solutions to the existing problem
Titanium backup is guaranteed the most widely used app for backing up on XDA, among other users.
If you don't want to use it, that's definitely your choice. But I can't imagine sitting there waiting for 200 apps to download and install, when you can make a few clicks and have them back in about a minute and a half.
Also, we shouldn't need to do a lot of things with our devices, but we do. Especially tweaking it for better performance and/or battery life, and using apps to do a wide variety of things our phones can't do out of the box... Or the 3rd party apps just do them better.
But to each their own. Good luck! ?

Clearly you're not catching my drift buddy.
I've had several nexus devices, tried several ROMs, clean flashed many a time... I don't think there has ever been a time (maybe once) that GPlay correctly restored all my apps to my device, without having to restore many myself manually.
I didn't ask If there was a workaround, I got the same exact answers last time, instead of identifying and accepting the GPlay store issue.
Many people that are not rooted can't even use titanium backup to it's fullest ability.
Don't get me wrong I like titanium backup, EXCEPT for the fact that play store was trying to restore some of my apps at the same time as titanium backup, during phone startup. THIS would be a situation worth providing a workaround?
Play Store was designed and intended to BACKUP and RESTORE user apps. And it is NOT doing so. So there IS an issue here.
Is there something I'm doing wrong here?
Is this a widespread problem?
Is there a solution to fix play store restore issues?
In the meantime I'll use titanium backup to avoid the frustration with the play store, but again, google should fix this issue, and if they're are not aware of it they won't be working on it.
No one said there isn't an issue but its not going to be fixed by posting here. We can give you work arounds and nothing else.
Take it up with Google if you're not happy about it. This is NOT a Google forum so you shouldn't be so unappreciative when we give you workarounds because that's all we have. OK buddy?!

Exactly this ^^
The reason no one here can say much, other than let Google know... They won't know by you posting here, is I bet there are very, very few that use that feature. Why wait however long for 200 apps to download and install, when titanium backup does it in a couple minutes.
I completely understand what you are saying, we all do.... It's just no one cares to look into it, cause it's extremely inefficient. Maybe Google has a good peek at your data too when you back it up to their servers. Lol
As far as Google restoring at the same time as TB, easy... Disable Google backup.
Anyway... Not much else to say here. It's an issue with Google obviously. And they don't come to xda to find issues. ?

You seem to like making things tough for yourself. Let the Play Store reinstall the apps that it will then use the Restore Missing Apps function in TiBu.

Setting Animations to x0.5 won't help him free up RAM, it's just an illusion that makes it LOOK like it's faster, it doesn't improve anything in real time. Also, apps like clean master etc. disrupt Androids built in task manager and can make even more problems, plus they sit in RAM as well, further taking up space. What I recommend is trying to boot into safe mode (you long press the "Power off" button on screen and then accept to boot to safe mode). The second thing you could do is trying to do a full data wipe and then flash the ROM. After that go to Settings and see how's the RAM doing. If it's full with 0 apps installed, then I'd recommend that you flash back to stock, unroot, and go to a service center.
I would look into seeing what processes are running in the background, what their CPU time and usage are, and what your RAM usage is at.
Here is a good article on the topic that might help you out.

Hi guys.
I'm wanting to buy my partner a 2017 version of Amazon fire HD 8.
Before I do so, I'm wanting to know if it had the option of adding "unknown sources", and also, if I can mirror anything from the fire tablet which is seen on screen, to her TV, which is able to receive devices.
I know there's quite a few fire tablets over time, and they differ, but I want to know this tablet is good enough, before I purchase it. Thanks in advance

Hi David! To answer your questions:
Yes - you can install apps from "unknown sources."
Yes, - you can mirror your screen (using various third-party tools) but the built-in/stock Android casting/mirroring feature doesn't work. I've come close to getting it to connect but there's always an error. I've used several third-party casting apps though with overall decent screen mirroring quality.
Enhancing your 2017 Fire HD 8 by installing the Play Store/by way of some of the recent guides on here, especially (IMO) the most recent method for hiding/disabling system apps & bloatware, you're actually left with a pretty solid tablet! My expectations have been exceeded anyway, though I'll admit they were pretty low, lol. Just remember - no rooting nor bootloader unlocking options are available yet (and may never be), so you won't be able to install custom ROMs or anything of that nature. But I'd say it's worth it, especially if you buy one on sale for next to nothing.

These tablets unfortunately have too much of the Miracast code missing so I can't get the actual original Miracast to work. The only Cast app I managed to get to work from device to device is Remo Droid which is available on the Play Store. It's relatively easy to setup and use. Let me know how it goes for you.

It's not that it doesn't work it's that most of the OEM have taken out the Android code that activates it. For example in fire OS, on every tablet except the HD 8, the 'wifi_display' string is missing in the public XML of the framework. I've recently come across a post on XDA that explains how to create settings like that, but I haven't read enough about it yet and haven't tried it. I have the next 2 days off and it's a project I'm going to try. And if it works it might reactivate the old stock feature.

Weird. Remo worked on my HD 8. It kicks back likely because the 'config_enableWifiDisplay' in the framework is set to false.

Oh, that link was useless but it points to the actual CVE. https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2019-15468
It's for 10.0.3.0. It says the com.huaqin.factory app allows unprivileged apps to set wireless settings.
I have a FactoryTest Kit that may be the same app? But without a proof of concept who can say if the bug even remains?
If you have root, i guess you can disable that app.
---------- Post added at 10:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:03 AM ----------
I extracted it and dumped it. FactoryKitTest.apk is com.huaqin.factory. my version is QL1715_201901180953 which does not match the CVE version. Maybe it was fixed?
---------- Post added at 10:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:09 AM ----------
BTW: This app is normally not even used? It's what runs when you enter *#*#6484#*#* into the dialer. I used it a loooong time ago to verify my LCD does not support DT2W. I have found it to be crashy with Magisk running.
I have the Magisk module "terminal debloater" for "removing" system apps without modifying /system. I removed FactoryKitTest and the phone booted and ran ok. Obviously that dialer code no longer works.

There's 2 of them,

and
145775/145776 = "The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Android device with a build fingerprint of xiaomi/daisy/daisy_sprout:9/PKQ1.180917.001/V10.0.3.0.PDLMIXM:user/release-keys contains a pre-installed app with a package name of com.qualcomm.qti.callenhancement app (versionCode=28, versionName=9) that allows unauthorized microphone audio recording via a confused deputy attack. This capability can be accessed by any app co-located on the device. This app allows a third-party app to use its open interface to record telephone calls to external storage."
Well the good news is that both of these apps are apparently safe to remove and don't even require root to do so:

FWIW: I have disabled both apps using the terminal debloater Magisk module and everything seems fine. I even verified that phone calls work
I only did this because I know how to revert that, getting the apps back. I don't know how to revert the "adb remove" stuff that works without root (you probably can't, without getting root first).

Just to calm down anyone who reads this thread... These reports are for 10.0.3.0 and 10.0.2.0 so they may have been fixed (this is why you should install security updates).
None of these have been deemed critical, despite the thread title. They have been reported by a company, but have yet to be assessed for severity.
