GPS Signal - Huawei Watch 2

Hi
Is there any app or method to get better gps signal in our Huawei Watch 2? I use it with a sim card but it takes a lot of time to take a good signal (5 minutes more or less) and with no obstacles.
Thank you

[Q] Better LTE management - read on!

I've had this thought for a while, but haven't found any practical way of implementing it, perhaps having it out to the broader public may help.
LTE or 4G, as we all know, is fast and great, but it also demands more on our batter than good old 3G.
These are some of the scenarios in which I would love an app, or OS be able to make smarter decisions about the network.
1. When connected to WiFi - When connected to WiFi, our battery life improves when compared to 3G or 4G, but I find sometimes that even though I'm connected to WiFi, my cell network is still connected to 4G (at home, my 3G signal is full bars, but 4G is 3/5), thus, wasting a bit of battery.
2. When phone is in low data use state, or lengthy sleep - Often, when I'm in the office for example, my phone sits there in standby for hours at a time (my emails come onto PC, plus I wear a moto360 so i check notifications there). In these modes, LTE is of little use for me, yet it can often spend hours in LTE standby.
I've looked into IFTTT, and messed with other software apps, but I always end up with the same conclusion, that is, this would have to be manually done...
does anyone know a way?
If you have a root you can do with with xposed and gavitybox (smart radio). I think some other modules can do it as well.

Let me guess, not on Telstra. Battery life on mine with Telstra is superb, even with 1-2 bar signal. I guess that would be because it is a stable 1-2 bar, unlike the issues I had previously with Optus, were my phone would drop signal very often in built up areas

Yes, not on Telstra, but that is besides the point here. This is not an AU specific thing. I travel internationally a lot for work, and this would be the same when I'm overseas. In fact, not complaining about battery life at all, just think that the way the phone manages its connections could be improved - this is not a problem on the Sony, but on most phones.

Good tip. Not rooted, not intending to.

Excessive battery use while traveling

I own an LTE through TMob. I don't do alot on it - I get text, email, use GPS when I run, A little bit on the phone but not alot. My battery life is erratic. Mostly its connected to trying to find a signal when I'm traveling outside coverage areas - at least I think so. When I do that my battery life drops about 10% every 15-20 mins. Anyone have any ideas on how to prevent it from constantly searching for a signal? Current I have to remember to switch it to airplane mode when I'm in the sticks then remember to turn it back on later.
Even on my phone I cut the GSM signal when I am in no coverage zone
Well I guess that's that. Thanks!

Question [BATTERY] Post your GW4 size and battery life

Post your watch model and battery life, you can answer the poll to get some stats going
Better than expected but I expected bad
Mine is great. I have all the sensors turned on, always on display, tilt to wake, a lot of notifications on, and I also have Google Fit on and counting steps (just to see which app is more accurate). I charge it around 8-9, then put it on around 10:30pm to go to sleep, I do put it into sleeping mode, then on normal from around 7am to 8-9pm. It had 40% battery left last night when I put it on the charger. I'd guess in normal mode I would get around 24 hours.
2nd charge
It is really better than I expected. I passed on Watch3 because of this issue. Coming from a Watch (1). I have a classic 46mm. Not running wifi (only bluetooth) and was getting about 2 days with no workouts or gps. This is with notifications on with gmail and texts but that is it. Doing workouts and/or gps about a day and a half.
My last charge (which I believe is third time I charged it) lasted nearly 3 days (2 days, 20 hours). This was during this week and I was busy with work so pretty much no workouts but walked about 6,000 steps each day. I did not turn on power saving modes and went down to 1%. At 1% the watch was still syncing with phone.
First time use was this result. Now try it with this watch face. Like it because has compass and alot of other stuff
LTE version, about 2 weeks of use total. This is not exactly correct as getting notifications takes battery that is unexpected so it won't last that long
Ok I have had the GW1 46mm lte the GW3 in 41mm and 45mm both lte models and the GW4 in 42 mm and 46mm both lte
To ask the question on battery life you need to specify on lte models if lte is on ....off ...or on auto and
If you are in a low signal strength area ... if you are using remote connection to watch or are on 3g ...or 4g voicecalls
As a guide go onto 4g remote connection always on ....with bluetooth off ....wifi off....gps.off basically everything off apart from lte connection then go into a poor signal area from your provider you will not last 20mins before you overheat on a GW4 AND the battery drops by 20 percent ....hence do this a few times the battery is dead in 2 hours..?..or less
Do the sa e thing in a high signal strength area you can get over a days use and no overheating
But if you try just linking by bluetooth to your phone and turn every thing else off then same watch gets 2 and a bit days
Hence in answering the (how long does your bettery last question ?)
You need to say model of watch ....and what was turned on and what was off ..?and if lte model if it was on and in use and the signal strength during the test ...
Hi all,
I have also recently bought one - GW4 classic 46 mm LTE.
On the attached screenshot you can see how I am with the battery life - roughly 2 days. That's the maximum with the following settings:
LET - OFF - I haven't activated a mobile plan
GPS - OFF
Wifi - OFF
AOD -OFF
NFC - OFF
Brightness - around 40%,
Bedtime mode - scheduled from 00:00 to 07:30 + Power saving for the same period
All smart gestures (raise to wake, gestures for answering/dismissing calls and notifications, quick launch) - ON
Notifications with turning display on for Viber, Gmail, Slack(not always), Phone, Yahoo Mail, FB Messenger, Calendar, Clock, Phone Messages) - ON
Vibration - OFF
Samsung Health monitoring features - OFF (only steps counting )
I have several calls during the day, and a light to moderate number of notifications.
My battery lasts around 43/6 hours - almost two days.
What's your opinion, guys? Am I doing well in terms of battery life, or is my battery underperforming for its capabilities?
P.S. This is my 3d charge cycle.

@Alfiedog, interesting point. Are you basically saying that my battery will last longer if I am on LTE with BT, Wifi and GPS off?

Question Watch 4 Overheating LTE

Hi i have owned Lte galaxy watches then Lte galaxy watch 3 models and now the watch 4 Lte
my post is to comment on watch 4 overheating when connected via gsm networks ....in strong signal areas the watch does not seem to get hot and overheat.
.but if i move to a weaker signal area the watch overheats .....by switching from 3g/4g mode to just 3g tge watch no longer overheats and the data connection is still fast enough to.be useable .......if you are suffering from hot watch syndrome try settingx/connections/mobilenetworks/networkmode/3g only ...it may help
Yep, 3G only can cool the watch sometimes. Cheers
More info on GW4 CLASSIC IN 42 and 46mm both with Lte which overheat in poor signal areas or long 4g / 3g voice calls
Well i bought a 4g classic in 42 and one in 46 mm back when they were first available in August 2021.
Both worked fine but if i used an esim in a weak signal area the watch got hot within 2 minutes and shut down as it was on full transmit power over 4g mobile network.
The battery would drop massive amounts in a short time and the watches would give up and overheat....
So i made notes of the furmware ...photographed the inside of both ...filled out a return and sent them both back for repair as this is an issue much reported on the net..
So git them both back and looked at the firmware version ...and looked inside ...
Hmmm well it looks like Samsung know how to fix tge fault with a new redesigned rear cover and a firmware
Update
So as Samsung are quiet about the issue i would recomend that even if you can live with a hot wrist ...you
FILL OUT A SAMSUNG REPAIR / RETURN FORM ONLINE then your pride and joy watch can be collected and samsung can upgrade the thermal heat sink design and reduce the max tx power the watch uses to reduce tge overheating.
I now dont get thermal shutdowns on any of my watches but lte enabled does reduce battery time by about 50 percent
So my advice return to samsung before the warantee expires
Note.. this is just lte models ......bluetooth only models i do not own
Ok GW4 42mm classic Lte only no bt wifi gps etc
In a permenant data trandfer to keep link over 4g up is achieving 5hours 35mins from 100percent charge to flat.no iverheating
The 46mm version is getting an extra 2 hours of call over lte as the battery is larger capacity again no overheating.
This should be a worst case as i selected the weakest signal strength location to force the watch to use a higher tx power output
If i disable 4g/lte network connection and use just bluetooth only at 30 feet to the phone its linked to i get
42mm classic watch 4 one day 19hours
46mm classic watch 4 about two days
This shows how much power 4g /3g enabled watches use ....
My old original samsung watch r805f as the battery was larger could manage 3 days
Note ...my tests are with a data transfer taking place all the time to simulate a link to a watch and were done so see if i could cook the watch overheat if after a repair return from Samsung
In a real world with some bt some lte some wifi not sure what yiu may get ...?
The point i am trying to make....
When cell coverage is weak the phone increases its output power in an attempt to maintain a connection. A weak signal uses 10 times as much energy as the strongest signal, so it can drain a battery very fast if you are on a call, and it will still drain the battery when not on a call because the phone periodically reports its location to the network so an incoming call can find your phone. To further complicate things, if you periodically lose signal completely the phone sends a "where are you?" page to the network to reconnect. This is sent at full power. If there's no response it repeats the request periodically, with longer and longer waits between pages. However, if it reconnects and then loses the connection frequently, the pages are sent frequently without the longer waits, again draining the battery.
Incresed signal strength generates more heat so if in a low signal area turn off mobile networks to save battery which in a watch is small and it also reduces heat generated by the transmiter power curcuits
You claim to have pictures. Can you post them? Also can you show what you mean by redesigned rear cover? I have the 46mm LTE on Verizon and it overheats a lot.

Inaccurate GPS issue

Hello everyone, I just bought a Hongkong SM-G9700 S10e, and flashed the latest Android 11 firmware to it.
I found that the GPS reception is noticeable weak (I use GPSTest from Play store). The S10e can't locate me if I stand next to the window, and even though when I go outside the building, it always takes at least 30 seconds for the Time To First Fix with > 50 meters accuracy and 30 seconds more to reach the maximum accuracy at 5 meters.
I also did the test with 3 other phones and all of them can reach to ~3 m accuracy in less than 10 sec (I clear the A-GPS data before the test).
Did you get this issue with your phone?
