Any chances of data recovery? (Galaxy S7) - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hi guys, I'm new to the community here.
I've been using a Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930W8) for the past four years that I bought second hand. It had this issue where it would get stuck and force reboot while playing videos. I tried looking up the issue, but there seemed to be no one else having this issue so in the moment I just kind of gave up and learned to live with it. However, for the past week or so, the problem got really bad. It had started freezing up while doing even regular stuff like browsing the settings app or tapping on a notification. If I left it, it would either force restart itself, or I'd do it myself by pressing Volume Down + Power Button.
I had planned on making a backup on Sunday Night, but just my luck, the phone just sorta gave up and died in the evening. It crashed during a video call, and it just kept rebooting, getting stuck on lock screen, and rebooting again. It did this a few times before going completely unresponsive. No power button, no Power + Volume up + Home, no Power + Volume Down, nothing would work. After a few hours, I tried connecting it to my Laptop, and at first it wouldn't even respond there, so I left it.
In the morning, I tried plugging it in to the laptop one last time and lo and behold, as soon as I connect, the Samsung Galaxy S7 logo shows up. However, the phone keeps going to "Installing System Update" Screen, end up at "No Command", and shutting down. The only thing I can do at this point is take it into download mode, and exit download mode. Nothing else seems to be working.
I got most of the data off of my SD Card, but when I took it to the local electronics store, they told me the only thing they could do was Flash the software and reset the whole thing, and even that was not a guarantee that it would turn back on, and that my data would be lost. They said if I wanted to access my data, I'd have to go to a professional data recovery service and pay several hundred euros.
I've been doing some research online and it seems that it is very much possible to flash new firmware onto the device without deleting all the data on it. I just need the phone to turn on once to the point where I can unlock the screen so I can copy the data off of it. Does anyone know if this would be possible, or if trying to flash it would work? I'd really appreciate any guidance and help. As a student, I cannot afford to drop 5-600 euros on data recovery on top of buying a new phone. If there's any way to access and copy the data into a PC without turning on the phone, that would work absolutely fine as well. Like I said, I do not need the phone anymore, but I would really really like to be able to get the data still on it.

I will ask my cousin he is an android pro engineer.

Hi booyakiller01, phone is recognized when connected to PC in Download mode ?

OP, sorry to hear that.
Data loss it something that happens to everyone, eventually.
Use the SD card as your data drive; put or backup all critical data here except for the Downloads folder (to create a security buffer).
Use ApkExport to backup up all your loaded apps and updates for a faster reload.
Backup any apps that allow it as well.

Hi @djibe89
The PC recognizes that there is a device connected but is unable to access the data or anything on the device. I tried flashing a new ROM, but I think I didn't have USB debugging enabled before it crashed, which is why that didn't work.

Hi @blackhawk
I'm a little confused, were you offering me advice for the future, or trying to suggest it as something I could try at the moment? In case I wasn't clear, the device is not able to boot into anything other than download mode, so I can't really do any of that. And my current replacement doesn't have an SD card slot so

The future. Now you know why I always have a SD card slot ie data drive.
Even adding a data drive to my Dell e6400.
They have saved me a lot of time and trouble more than once.
Hopefully someone here will figure out a way to help you recover your data

Hi @booyakiller01, by download mode I mean, what happens when you power on phone by holding Home + Power + Volume- and release buttons when screen is on ?

Yeah play with it.
My 10+ got into a boot loop twice by a badly coded launcher. When around in circle a couple times but finally got it to load in safe mode. Recovered some stuff and reloaded.
You may be able to get it to boot into safe mode...

if its stuck on DL mode you can reflash the FW in Odin using the HOME_CSC which wont wipe your data. If it still refuses to boot and debugging isnt on, then its beyond my knowledge level of how to approach. also, sd to usb readers are stupid cheap

Most unusual..

My Thunderbolt is locked somehow, and I have no way to restore it to factory defaults. What I mean by "locked" is as follows:
I remove two apps from the device, change the wallpaper and delete a contact. Then, I restart the device - when it boots back all of the changes I made are gone. It's like in read-only mode, the changes look like they take affect but after a reboot everything is restored to it's current FC'ing on everything state.
I've tried factory resetting the device but instead of booting to recovery it just boots to the picture of a phone with the red caution symbol showing, it does not do anything else.
I've tried flashing over a stock RUU image but the flash either 1) looks like it works then boots back to the state it was before, 2) hangs on part of a flash and reboots to the normal state.
The device is not rooted, I've tried revolutionary and get the following error:
"rawadb_handle_msg" and then it loses connection.
Any ideas would be appreciated, I've never seen anything like this.
Turn it on and let it boot up if it can then pull the battery while its on and leave power off for 5 minutes then try again.
Also can try, with power off, hold power button and volume down button together for a few seconds and when it gets to the white screen wait for about 10 seconds then select reboot from there
Latest OTA patched the Revolutionary exploit (so it won't work). You may want to root using ADB and flash the rooted RUU. Can't say I've ever seen R/O behavior; but then again, I've been rooted for months - currently on AOSP (ShiftAo5p 2.8) and waiting for an ICS with data
I know, not too helpful, but there are still ways to root.
Any feedback from VZW or a "real" corporate store? They're actually quite helpful here with tech junkies.
OK, one more suggestion - early on, I couldn't do anything either (Market, etc) and the fix was to pave (format) my SD card. I know it sounds weird, but I was going to exchange my phone (ordered, then sent back replacement). I figured, what the heck. Took the uSD card out, put it into my PC's USB port and formatted it FAT32, popped it back in and VOILA - happy happy joy joy.
Granted I copied all the data off of it before paving - then copied back selectively (highly recommend AirDroid, by the way, no more cables). Might give this a shot.
Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions - unfortunately no luck on my end with that

I inserted the card freshly formatted (I wasn't rooted at that point) - nothing on it, and I booted up, I was able to install Market apps (which I couldn't do before) - Note - AFTER I also did (multiple) a factory reset, I was good.
That didn't work for you? Maybe try again? Or just No-Go?
Also helps prove every 'Bolt has its own personality
Good luck on your CLNR ...
I have no idea what errant app or corrupted data may have been on the card, but totally paving and starting over "fixed it". Soon after, I rooted Then I had choices Granted I've had times I've had to do a factory reset (but not pave the SD) and set up all again - I've found the larger games (haven't determined which yet) cause my phone to get into reboot fits if I do actually reboot (which I need to do sometimes to get the radios to get data again); so, boring maybe, but very few games installed. That's OK, I prefer to learn or listening to music during idle time. Good luck.

Ahhhhndroid!

I've got a rooted (Super User) LG C800 that I was having problems with. To be specific, I installed some apps on to the system. Some of these apps would be Titanium Backup for root, Avast Mobile Security, ROM Tool Box, Super SU, and a couple others. From day one they seem to be kicked right back to my S.D. card, but not all at the same time, and some would stay on the system. I read where I should move the apps back to my S.D. card and try to re-install them on the system minus the data. When I did, the phone went nuts. Now it stays in a restart mode but never fully boots up. Can I salvage it, and if so, please tell me how?! I have tried the hard reset/recovery boot where you hold down the power button, volume, and a few other keys, but it did not work. I'm a broke college student and can't really afford to buy a new phone. I used this one for everything including tethering it to get my assignments done at home in on time. Please help! I'm open to suggestions.......
Did you do a Nandroid backup? If not, I would try reinstalling whatever ROM your running, see if that helps.
Why did you want to move the apps in the first place? Did they not install/run properly? I'm not certain but I believe that some apps prefer/require running from system, others from the SDcard. I don't think you can just assume that all apps should be moved to your card. Normally, wherever they install to, is where they are supposed to remain.
I can't even........
My phone will be completely off. When I plug it into my computer, via U.S.B., it automatically turns it on whether I want it to be on or not. Then it starts into that "boot loop" all over again but never fully boots up before going back to the beginning of that "boot loop" yet again. I can't even get it to register on my laptop as being plugged in. The reason I took the apps I placed on the system off was because sometimes when I'd re-boot the system the apps would be on the system and sometimes back on my S.D. card without my involvement of any kind other than rebooting my phone. Is completing a Nandroid recovery or re-installation of my ROM even possible with my computer no longer recognizing it as even being plugged in?
Rooted myTouch Q 4G, a.k.a. LG C800
I believe it had a what the exact numbers were but I want to say it was 2.3.4 GRJ22-perf, and then something like 2.6.35.7? I can't remember off the top of my head, and I can't pull it up on my phone anymore or else I'd double check.

Need To Restore Nexus S 4g

I have an extreme problem with my Nexus. I've been through thick and thin with this phone, and I'm hoping you guys will help with a solution to this problem.
The power button to my Nexus is broken completely. I stabbed it so much that the clicking black part is completely removed from the slot (on the motherboard).
One time, my Nexus S died, and I realized I had no way to turn it back on. I tried every single method (battery pulling, button pressing, USB connecting, etc) with no answer. I finally was able to find a solution. I used Odin to restore the bootloader tar md5 file, and thus auto rebooting the nexus (when the box is checked). This worked like a charm, until I realize I made a fatal mistake.
I chose an md5 file for the ORIGINAL Nexus S (not 4g).
I was able to easily go into recovery with Quick Boot from the Play Store. I installed Raspbean Jellybean (02-05-13 build), but the installation was very faulty. The home button is nonfunctional (it vibrates when pressed, but nothing happens) and Browser is not working as it just closes itself instantly. Like an idiot, I didn't install Gapps before rebooting into the ROM.
Stuck in that dilemma, I used the built in email app to sync my Gmail account to the phone. I sent a Quick Boot APK to myself to try and open so I could reach recovery, but it said there's no type of program that can open that file (maybe because Gapps isn't installed).
The last thing I tried was Odin again. I tried to restore the ICS release keys, but Odin will not recognize my phone anymore for nothing. I tried 3 different USBs (2 with shorts, and 1 normal one. I don't know if the type of USB has anything to do with it). Nothing.
So here I am with a faulty, Gappless ROM on my Nexus S 4G with a completely broken power.
I'm wondering if you guys have any solution/suggestion to get Odin to recognize my phone again so I can restore it and work from there.
Apart from that, ANY solution to this problem is highly acceptable and greatly appreciated (ways to get into recovery, etc). I don't want this to be the last of me and my sweet ole Nexus =(,
Thanks x1000 XDA!
Hey Guys. I was actually able to reach recovery, because the ROM I'm using has a Power Menu widget in it's quick settings (Go Figure). But my phone is still unable to be recognized by Odin in Download mode. The phone is also not recognized by my pc at all. It only charges, no matter what USB I try. I even tried mounting in recovery, no go.
Please help. Thanks!

[HELP] Cannot factory reset a Kyocera Hydro Wave (C6740N) on Metro PCS

Greetings to all the developers and registered users on this site... Yes, this is my first post, but I read here pretty often and I used the search function, trust me! Seriously, I've tried all I could and I am at my wits end, but this is technology, we can't let it own us, we gotta continue owning it and that's what online communities like xda help us do, so thanks for all your past, present, and future contributions here. So I got this Metro PCS Kyocera Hydro Wave (C6740N) that I can't factory reset for a number of reasons, but mainly because I believe that there is either no boot-loader or no recovery partition as a result of Metro PCS flashing the ROM...
Anyway, lets get to the juice:
- Device powers on/off, but no combo of Vol -/+ and Power buttons bring up a recovery menu or anything (holding any combo down just boot-loops)
- Device has no SIM and no micro SD card, and the battery is not removable
- Device is locked... Like, pattern-locked/google account info/too many attempts/yada yada yada
- Device has no data and no WiFi connection active, so I could not use the google account to get past the lockscreen
- Device does not have USB debugging enabled/Google drivers for ADB do not work (Windows 7 auto-detects when I plug in the phone and installs a generic Microsoft driver which cannot be removed even after uninstalling the device, and also I pointed the Device Manager to the correct Google drivers I installed with the Android SDK Tools, as well as the Samsung Naked Universal Drivers I found on this forum, and Kyocera ADB drivers I found through Google which all failed, Windows returned a message stating that the most up-to-date or best driver for this device is already installed)
What I've tried (everything possible really):
- Hard reset/Recovery from phone: FAILED
- Connect to Linux and install ADB, then tried running the adb shell, adb devices, fastboot devices, etc but phone not detected: FAILED
- Connect to Windows 7 and install ADB (Android SDK Tools), I literally checked every single box and installed Platform-tools, google drivers, everything, got to the command prompt as admin, cd to the ADB directory, ran same commands as in linux, also tried commands on several forums and posts like adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key to remove the lock but everything: FAILED
- Connect to Windows 7 and attempt to install proper drivers using RootGenius, MoboRobo, PDAnet, and several other suggestions which all were oblivious/unable to detect the device despite Windows recognizing it, so they all: FAILED
- Connect to Windows 7 and attempt running ADB through a Cygwin terminal, but the command "sudo" was not recognized/not valid, so: FAILED
- Connect to Windows 7 and use XRYViewer to extract data from the phone, possibly to see the system files and get an actual understanding of what everybody is saying you need to mount from the recovery partition, but no clue how to use this, since I can't find an XRY file in the internal storage, so: FAILED
- Connect to Windows 7 and access data/recover data from device using "Wondershare Dr.Fone for Android" and "iLike Android Data Recovery Pro" but both programs instructed me to enable USB Debugging, which is not possible, so the both also: FAILED
Despite this being my first post, I have scoured the forums here in addition to every other forum and webpage regarding this issue as well... There just isn't much about this phone except negative reviews, and I have come to the conclusion that on this particular model phone, I am out of options... I have a paperweight... I'm not very familiar with Android... So please correct me if I'm wrong...
Any input?
I'm curious if there are any options at this point, I have been trying to get through to this phone on several computers for the past couple days and it is frustrating me... Any input from the community would be much appreciated...
Mojo2XL, I guess you did not find an answer?

may be this:
*2767*3855# - Think before you give this code. This code is used for factory format. It'll remove all files and settings including the internal memory storage. It'll also reinstall the phone firmware.
I found code in internet, but may be it works? can't check, my "wave" comes to me from USA by post for a few weeks..

Did you happen to get the files the other member posted that was only available for eight days?
Mojo2XL - Sort of.
I saw a youtub video (sorry no link) that says there was a OTA update that changed the phone's firmware that solved all the problems mentioned here. Thing is I have no carrier and cannot find this new firmware, but, I am still hunting....

I accidentally stumbled upon a something weird. I've managed to make the camera crash to the home screen somehow. I believe this was a result of holding both volume buttons and opening numerous menus while using the camera. My guess is that it overloads it after a certain amount of times and causes it to crash. I've gotten the android UI to crash like this before. I will try to recreate the scenario and update you guys on this. it's on a Kyocera Hydro Wave. Running android 5.0 I believe. Try going wild until the phone starts to lag. eventually stuff will crash and the lock screen may go with it. use this to your advantage and enable USB debugging as quickly as possible because it will reset itself after about 30 seconds. Someone else on YouTube has recently told me that it worked for them. I would look into doing that.

Is there anything a little more realistic possible? Lol, I can see an update available, can't connect to WiFi to update haha. The stuff they lock these phones with anymore i swear
I'm new to this forum, but NOT new to this site . I have visited here on numerous occasions seeking the help that needed . With that being said, I would like to offer a Bonafide, Tried and True way to factory reset the Kyocera Hydrowave . I KNOW that this work's for I have done in on numerous occasions for a friend of mine that works for Metro PCS ....
Step One: Completely power off the phone .
Step Two: Hold the Power AND Volume DOWN Buttons SIMULTANEOUSLY .
Step Three: DO NOT release any buttons, even when you get to the Boot Menu . (Very Important, If you don't do it right, you have to start all over lol ) .
Step Four: Once inside the Boot Menu, ONLY release the Power Button; or the Boot Menu will close and you have to start all over again .
Step Five: Use the Volume Down Button to Highlight the Wipe/Factory Reset Option .
Step Six: Use the Power Button to Select the option .
Step Seven: Watch the bottom of the screen for the progress, and then use the Volume Up Button to restart .
And there you have it . I hope that this helps out SOMEONE out there, because I feel good giving back for the help that I have received on here .
PS.( If you would like for me to post a Video Tutorial on this, can someone please tell me how to post the Video; I guess by me being a Newbie on here, I'm not allowed to do as of yet ) . If Anyone needs to contact me, as I'm not on here very often, my email is [email protected] .

As unrealistic as it may sound it actually works Trust me on this. its similar to the LG attack which... is nothing but entering a long password.
betanews.com/2015/09/16/bypass-the-android-lollipop-lockscreen-by-entering-a-really-long-password
Just give it a go. it already worked for one dude on youtube. it takes a while but it honestly works. If you can get it, update the phone as soon as possible turn the screen timeout off and let it update. when the phone resets the update will install and you will be able to factory reset.
I mean it couldn't hurt. if you're locked out with no factory reset and ADB tools won't work what else can you do?

Need to recover files for police (D6603)

Hi there.
I have a Sony D6603 where the screen has been broken. The phone starts up and you can feel it responding to commands, the screen backlight comes on but no text etc
My problem is this. The phone was stolen last month but a tip off allowed me to get it back. We know the culprit but he keeps demanding the phone back as he has important data on it. We said no we would give it to police. However the police say they cannot go thru the phone and that I need to get the data off to show them. This culprit is so desperate for the phone that he attempted to break in the house to steal the phone back!
Problems -
When connected to computer, it shows the phone as a drive but is blank
No way to turn USB debugging on (Is there a way of using some sort of recovery to get files off even though I cannot access the debugging screen to turn it on?
This is very important so any help will be appriciated :good:
This is hilarious
Have you tried enabling File transfer after plugging your phone in? The phone is shown bank when file transfer is not enabled.

Can't you film yourself doing a factory reset then suggest they sue you for losing data on your phone whilst it was stolen.
I have actually had to do this with a Z3 with a dead screen. If it is encrypted however you will have no luck so don't even try as it will force a factory reset and you lose everything.
Use this to install TWRP recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/recovery-root-mm-575-291-lb-t3435214
Follow the OP exactly and you will have recovery.
Boot to recovery (when rebooting press the down volume key at the first green light) and then use adb (TWRP now has this) to command TWRP to commence a data backup: http://www.pocketables.com/2014/10/using-twrps-new-adb-interface.html
(or if you can just extract the data with adb directly this will also work, but I don't see it as a command.)
As far as I know if you use flashtool and TWRP you won't need to use the screen and with TWRP's adb interface you should have more luck getting the data.
Good luck - careful when you get the data that you don't break any weird laws for looking at it. Might be a breach of his privacy blah blah. Anyway he's very stupid for using a stolen phone for sensitive data....
