Tired of moving your fingers up/down your tablet to switch applications? Try out TasKarou!
TasKarou is a multitasking launcher overlay.
Taking inspiration from the 'Quick Controls' feature in the android browser, TasKarou provides a multitasking layer on top of a launcher for phone and tablets.
By swiping anywhere on the left or right edge of your device screen, you can activate TasKarou's UI, giving you access to a quick, smooth, and intuitive interface to facilitate app launch, transition, and management for the user
The user interface brings a more responsive, and enjoyable level of interaction to your device.
The app is available in the android market: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ne0fhykLabs.home.taskarou
Notes:
To use TasKarou, set it as the default home launcher, and from TasKarou's settings, select the actual home launcher you want to overlay.
TasKarou user interface is then triggered by swiping from either the left of right edge of your tablet screen, while still allowing access to the overlaid home launcher through the home button.

What's the difference between this and Wave Launcher?
I'm on GB and just wondering if I should subscribe to the thread in case it's ever made available for GB, should it offer something better.
Very nice work!

It should be possible, but unfortunately, I lack the resources to pursue development in that area (lack of devices running GB).
If someone has the knowledge, and the resources, I might consider open sourcing the app to allow development in that area.
I installed the app on my rooted Kindle Fire HD running ADW Launcher. It was nice to finally have multi-tasking/task switching ability on the tablet. Unfortunately had to uninstall it because it kept on causing failures with App Protector Pro - which I rely on more than task switching. When a new version comes out I'll try again.
Otherwise, great app!

I should mention that the error only occurs if you somehow try to avoid entering the password such as hitting the cancel button or the back button.
HI!
I've been using this app for a week now, and love it.
I have some suggestions that might be useful:
-I have a galaxy note 2 and it's quite difficult for short fingers like me to reach back/menu buttons when operating with one hand. Could you please, please, pleeease add them?:fingers-crossed:
-Also it would be awesome to customize menus. For example, I don't use the options buttons quite often as I use 15 toggles toolbar, and the lower menu is easier to access with my thumb than the upper. That's where I'd locate home, menu and back buttons (if added), but maybe another person that's using a tablet likes the way it is now. Customizable buttons would solve this problem, so anyone could move/add/remove the buttons as he prefered.
-When using Google Chrome and swapping between tabs,it's necessary to move your finger horizontally from the border of the screen, and taskarou is launching when doing this. Perhaps you could implement an additional way to launch it by moving the finger vertically along the border of the screen.
-Last, It would be great to have the possibility to add a shortcut to any application, so you could quick launch your most used apps.
Well, perhaps all of this is asking too much but you would make me sooo happy if you could implement the first suggestion
Hey ne0fhyk,
Could you add customisation to the buttons?? So that you can replace them with whatever you want, I would really like the back home and applications button, also a time overlay on the corcver of the screen when the launcher is activated would be aweomse
I just wanted to add my vote for the ability to customize the menu..
I like the idea, but would prefer to be able to use the existing default screens for multitasking, app drawer, etc.
Perhaps this could be accomplished similar to other apps / lauchers that have an intent / activity / application browsers to make shortcuts (NovaLauncher / QuickShortcutMaker are good examples from the Play store). Perhaps there could be a nested ordered list of menu items in the settings with support for drag and drop to arrange shortcuts, and add new shortcuts
After basic customization is available it would be nice to see support for Automation app API's to create shortcuts to actions from Tasker, AutomateIT Pro, etc
Thanks for listening!
All better!

Turns out that the problem was with App Protector Pro. I updated the app and no more problems. Happily using TasKoarou again.
Can you add a few buttons like back, lock screen and volume up down? like in buttonsavior app? I really liked your app, very useful and beautiful.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just pushed an update that add back, and menu shortcuts for rooted devices.
For the next update, my focus is to add the ability to customize the menu. That update should have the rest of the features you suggested.

Your first suggestions have been implemented, and should be available in the app, starting with version 3.2.
Your next suggestions are on my list to get done for the next update!
Sorry for the delay, but because of work, I do not have as much time to spend on this application as I wish. The app is open source though, so if you are a developer, or know interested developer, feel free to pitch in
Please, add shortcuts, last (previious) app, widget panel (from CM roms), open notifications and more hardware keys, like play\pause, volume and others.
Add second (inner) row for regular buttons, while outer row will act the same as now. If this will be implemented, than the outer row can be used in a whole new way. Swiping to the one of it's buttons and taking off the finger will start an action, binded to this button, but if you swipe and hold (with adjustable hold timeout), you'll get an access to submenu for the button.
I would also love to see black list for apps, such as drawing app ArtFlow, which is using screen borders to access tollbars.
I've just installed this app to use it instead of SlimPie in my Slim Bean rom, and I've already bought it, cause I like it's idea. Though, it's less responsive still, compared to LMT or SlipPie.
Keep up the good work.
Stunning work my friend
What are the power consumption repercussions of this? There would be two launchers running and active rather then one.

I tested it on several devices, and it doesn't affect battery life at all. While it's idle (not being triggered by the user), TasKarou launcher only background activity is to keep the trigger edges active, which allows it to consume very little cpu activity while in the background.
I'm no programmer so I don't have the first clue about how to do this but I had an idea.
My current launcher has 5 panels and I have to swipe side to side to get to each meaning sometimes I have to double swipe to get to where I want. Would it not be easier to swipe up, down, left, and right to go to the different panels?
It would be nice to keep the holo theme but just that one tweak.
You could call it a 4-way launcher. Simple yet functional.

So basically you would swipe in four different directions to scroll to a different home screen instead of just left or right? I'm no programmer either, but that sounds very interesting! I'm sure there's a way we could just modify a holo themed launcher (stock from Nexus devices anybody?). I feel as if I've heard your idea before, but maybe my mind is just creating fake memories based on something I believe to be true. That is what the mind does, after all.

I'm pretty sure you can do that in Apex or Nova by assigning gestures that lead to respective screens...
I tested the idea. It is possible to do this in Apex. Good idea.

@XpLoDWilD how's this? Looking forward to your comments
Swipe gesture here is not what action launcher offers. It's different, please check it out.
And enumerate the issues that can still persist in this kind of implementation, i will keep drawing till i get it right and easier for the not so techy people.
The app clicked appears "split in that half of the screen" of which the appdrawer has been swiped out.

Not sure what I'm looking at here, should these menus be always accessible? In which case it's a no-go, considering the number of apps having swipe-from-the-edge gestures.

Ok got your point. Thanks again for pointing out my mistake.
But here i is my take:-
##**Have this swipe gesture only in the 'recent apps screen'. ##**
In recents screen, 2 hotspot on left edge, upper and lower half.
1.Press recents> 2.swipe from edge in the half you want your new app> vertical continual scrollable app drawer appears( like the old launcher pro)> 3.click app. Done
Easy and i hope awesome. Just 3 steps accessible from all screens, all apps, all phones?
See i am trying so hard everyday because the basic problem in omni current implementation is that app should be in recents app. If it's not been open yet, or if it has been swiped off to clear ram, then imagine the number of steps in the currents method to open app in split view.
Sent from my GT-P3100 using Tapatalk
In recent apps screen, just like we have clear all apps button, we can add 2 new buttons ( no swipe gesture)
After that the same steps as above. In whichever half you click app drawer appears and then split app appears there.

I personally like this idea here:
Instead of necessary buttons and shortcuts that are easy to accidentally trigger, just use the multitasking screen itself to long-press an app and then drag it to one side of the screen. Then maybe have two buttons that only appear in multitasking mode, either on the top left and bottom left or on the app preview to remove the app from multitasking. But that's just my idea.

hmm i liked the video as well. but i've always disliked the idea of the app necessarily being already in recents. people always swipe off all recent app to clear RAM.
Just a thought!
Would it be possible to combine halo with multi-window? I know that they don't play well together but I am thinking something along the lines of a mashup. Halo is good at managing notifications in immersive mode but does not give a true multi-tasking environment. Multi-window clearly is the winner when it comes to multitasking but not as good as halo in handling notifications.
Imagine when you receive a notification in immersive mode through halo and when actioned on, it does not open a floating window (which is the case now) but resizes the current window and opens the new one as a split (also making it the active one and pausing the activity in the other one if there is a need to).
Just a thought. I am not a coder and have no idea how much of a pain in the arse this would be but it would be a combination of two of the most innovative features that are currently available on customs ROMs.
@XpLoDWilD
Something interesting maybe you can look into to get some ideas
LG launches QSlide SDK to bring floating windows to third-party apps
http://www.androidcentral.com/lg-launches-qslide-sdk-bring-floating-windows-third-party-apps
Why not make it simple?
Why splitting main desktop window?
Every laucher allow many virtual desktop windows, so why not putting on app per window and switching between apps by swypping left-right?
It should be possible as KDE linux do it since many years now.
I am not a dev, but in my mind this should be easyer than floating multiwindows (no needs to resize).
It would be just awesome to have multitasking with full size display. :good:
For Multi window app selection why not just put a small button on the far left edge of the Nav bar? Allow the user to set a few favorites in a drawer with a option of an app drawer to select any app (see the application drawer option in gravity box) While I understand this will only work on devices with on screen nav keys I see it as the most natural option for those devices.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't OmniSwitch the Multi-Window thing for OmniROM?

Hello to everybody!
Is there a way to use split screen mode while using nova launcher????
I wish to find out as well ?
Works on mine with Nova installed, but only when another app is already open, not when you are on your "homescreen" (or another page of Nova if you have more than one).
"Floating Window" mode works fine on Nova though, with no other apps open.
Swipe in from left or right to open the Multi-Window dock....
Quick press an app for Floating Window.
Drag an app from the dock to the top or bottom of the screen for Split Screen mode, but as I said this only works when an app is already open, so open one of the ones you want normally first, then open the dock and drag the other app you want to the top or bottom to give you split screen.
Not all apps are compatible with Split Screen, but there is an option in Settings/System & updates/Developer Options to "Force activities to be resizable" which may help.
Actually, you can use split screen on Nova Launcher. You just have to trigger it differently. I have no idea why. This is just the result of trial-and-error.
First turn on "force activities to be resizable" from developer options.
Now when in an app. Long press the recent apps button, release it and then press the home button. This works on my Samsung J500F with unofficial Lineage OS 17.1. Let me know if it works

However, if you go to recent apps, and long-press the icon of a particular app, it shows two options- app info, and split-screen, in Lineage OS. Any luck with that?

Hi guys, and thank you for all of the informative posts in this forum. I recently traded my 4a for a Flip 3, and find myself really missing so many elements of the pure Android 11 experience. Any advice on how to get a little functionality back?
- Multitasking pane behavior: the window switcher button automatically flips to the previous app instead of just bringing up the app tray. Additionally, my beloved Screenshot and Select tray buttons are gone - I just started getting used to using the picture copy functionality.
- Dialer: I installed the Google Phone app and have it set as my default calling app, but incoming calls still don't have the Decline / Screen / Accept red/blue/green buttons.
- Settings shade menu: I'd like the brightness control to appear at the very top of the pulldown. Really, I just want stock Android everywhere.
- App tray: flick up to get to your apps, but then have to flick sideways to page through them? Ridiculous.
Any advice would be appreciated. I hate the idea of bloating my phone with a ton of apps to customize the experience, but it seems like there's no way to run a stock Android launcher in place of OneUI.
You could try Good Lock on Galaxy store.

Only works on Pixel phones: exclusive feature.
Don't want to come across as a jack ass but sounds like you need to switch back to pixel phones. Or like one other person said try good luck from Samsung store.

Give some of the Samsung features a try. You are talking the difference of a single click to return to the previous app and there are only about 10 ways to take a screenshot, ranging from gestures to keys.

There are 1000 custom apps for this stuff, but you only need one of each. Once you find ones you are satisfied with, it's not incredibly hard to hide the stock ones away and forget they exist

If you want a truly stock experience, unlock the bootloader and build a generic version. Samsung hands you all the tools and instructions.
As for advice, I suggest actually trying the phone before trying to make it a Pixel. It isn't. It never will be. If you prefer Pixel, stick with Pixel.
