No, as long as you don't put something inside the speaker grill that could damager it (E.g: Little metal scraps can tore your speaker appart if they're stuck in the speaker grill, you speaker is a magnet so keep it out from any metal debris). Putting your hand or tape over it won't affect it.

Totally right, it is correct. I am always scared about the trash in my pockets, that is filling the mic hole, but I am trying to clean it carefully

5 holes on back cover?

So I've been trying to figure out what all the holes on the back are for. I'm sure one is a Mic but what about the rest? Thanks

The one at the very bottom is a mic hole The 2 towards the bottom and the 3 one the top are rivet holes for the antenna connections holes but the one on the very top also acts as a hole for the stereo mic and noise cancellation. .

The 2 holes towards the bottom of the case seem unnecessary, leading me to believe that they could potentially be a water detection system. In the event that the phone gets dropped in water, these two holes would be some of the first areas to get wet, it would be pretty easy to detect a short between the two pins and disable the electronics inside if such a situation is detected, possibly saving your device from permanent damage.
Now I haven't tested this theory, mainly because I wouldn't want the device to log such a situation if that is how it works, but it would be relatively simple to test if anyone is willing to give it a go .
Most holes on back are where the copper connectors are under the cover..
Breathing holes I assume..
this topic has been covered a plethora of times!

And this is why I suggested that perhaps they may be specifically designed for water detection, it would be trivial to have the hardware shut itself off if there is no resistance between the two leads to prevent permanent water damage... Just my two cents.
so, couldn't someone put a paper clip or needle in there whilst the cover is on the phone to see if it turns it off?

Case that aims the speaker

Kind of an odd question, but if its available I would love a case like this.
Is there a case that covers up the speaker, but leaves a small gap between the speaker and the case, so that the case ends up 'aiming' the speaker at the front of the phone?
Hopefully you undestand what i just described.
I have this thing for my iPad called the Sound Jaw which is just a little plastic doohickey that aims the speaker towards the front, does wonders for the sound. I can't use my iPad without it.
That said, I know exactly what you mean and why you want it, but I haven't seen anything like it.
With the way the camera protrudes this effect is done normally. I have a case on my phone, and when I put it on a table it sounds louder.
Or you can always just get a regular case and put the phone face down when using the speaker. Or cuff your hand around the back of the phone above the speaker to amplify the sound.

another solution is just to attach a piece of paper\plastic on the inside of the cover (between the phone and the cover), just above the speaker grill. and that's it

Loudspeaker

Loudspeaker is producing distorted sound and volume is too low... What should i do???
Doing some necromancy because I couldn't find the answer for this on the forum.
Under the metallic band on the bottom there is a bi-phase tape with holes for the speaker that, with time/dirt accumulation, causes distortion and low volume.
Remove it.
There are strip replacements on amazon...
I just made some holes over the speaker, used some spit to re glue it, then put a bit of masking tape over it (be careful that the paint on the borders).
All credit to this guy.

Z3 top speaker metal

Can you please quickly look at the top ear piece and tell me if you can see some flat metal thing partially under the speaker grill mesh? is that normal?
thanks

well I haven't ripped one if these apart yet but my guess is that they had to suspend the speakers in their own little chamber in order for the acoustics to work with the waterproofing. I think that metal thing is the speaker itself.
I have gone through 4 Z3s for one reason or another and all had the same appearing top speakers so I'm guessing it's normal.
I can see the same with mine so I'm guessing it is normal for these devices
