Hello people
Today I flashed the Xiaomi EU android 11 to check it out and saw some bugs and wanted to downgrade to android 10.
I flashed the stock rom as I was downgrading and installed TWRP, Fully wiped the phone and wanted to restore my backup, but it says " extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR: 255 " when restoring the data. Needless to say, I had to type my password when I booted to recovery and I had Fingerprint and Pincode enabled when I was backing up. now I checked the recovery log and the error is
Code:
==> extracting: //data/misc/recovery/ (mode 40770, directory)
tar_extract_file(): failed to extract //data/misc/recovery/ !!!
When I browse that Directory there is some files named Fingerprint so looks like this is making some issues.
Could someone please help me out how I am able to delete this directory and try restoring my Data ?
I have tried any way of wiping and installing stock rom but still I get this error.
Looks a recovery error. Is the back up made with different recovery? Looks like it cannot find or extract it from the back up. Can you get back to where you were when you made the back up and restore from there?
If not, looks like a format and start again.

Yeah it is from the same recovery.
It is a common error when you google it. but the fix they have mentioned does not work for me. It is like I should somehow delete that folder or files causing the issue from the backup and restore it.

You'll need to mount it on a pc, extract the folder and compress it again or delete it from the archive and save. I would make a copy first though.

ok I am able to extract it with WinRar. but how should I compress so the TWRP will not face issues? on Winrar I have RAR,RAR4 and ZIP that I think will not work.
Use 7 zip.
To create a tar file, you can highlight the files you'd like to archive, right-click, and go to 7-Zip > Add to archive. In the 'Add to Archive' menu, just select 'tar' as your archive format and click OK.
Did you get it fixed?

No, it didnt work. When i extracted the file using 7zip I got errors for everyfile. I think the issue is with the pincode and the data being encrypted. So next time I should remove the lockscreen and backup my data.
Goos thing I had backed up on Google Account.
Thanks for letting us know but good luck my friend
im having the same error in my realme xt... I have a twrp backup of system image vendor image data boot recovery persist but im unable to recover because it shows an error extract tar fork process ended up with error 255{i too have locked the phone with pincode during backup} ....i also have a backup of my internal storage in twrp but im not able to restore because of this error.... kindly help me
Some of the TWRP we use on Mi 10 ultra, dont able to decrypt data using Fingerprint or pin, you need to use pattern, this is a TWRP bug.
What a bull**** bug. There should be warnings about this at least when people go to create a backup.

So this morning I made a Nandroid backup (everything was acting normal) and I flashed the LeeDroid ROM then his insecure boot image since my phone wouldn't boot without that. Since then, my phone just will not recognize the internal SD card from Android (although, it is fine in Recovery). I posted about this in the LeeDroid thread because I thought it was ROM specific, but I just restored my Nandroid and the issue persisted. I have no clue what happened here. Any ideas?
Not sure if it is related but since I flashed the new ROM (even after restoring) I get that Android is Upgrading (runs through all apps optimizing) screen on each boot. Is this related to the boot img? Would the boot img have restored when I ran the Nandroid?

Hi I saw your issue in the LeoDroid thread also. I think if I were you I would flash the stock HTC recovery and do a factory reset with that. Or flash a RUU file.
To answer your question though, if you restore a nandroid it does include your old boot.img

Why would the recovery be involved though? I don't get what caused this. The Recovery console sees my memory card just fine.
Ok so in ROM Toolbox - Root Browser, the sdcard shows up as a file, not a folder. When I click on it, it has empty contents. Does this help? I have full permissions on the file. The sdcard is pointed to /mnt/sdcard but when I specifically go there, it is empty. When I check permissions on sdcard under mnt, they are all unchecked and when I check them off, it is unsuccessful... ARGH
Could someone post their fstab file for me so I can mimic it and push to the phone, I think it is related.
Thanks
Ok so I do have an fstab file and here are the contents
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard emmc /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.1/mmc_host
Is that correct? Why does the mount command in the shell day fstab not found or corrupt?

May be a stupid question, but in settings it doesn't show anything under Phone Storage? What do you see there? Can you try to format it? Can you put a screen shot of your Storage settings? Here is what mine looks like.
You say you can access SDCard from Recovery, did you try to go to Mount and Storage and format SDCard?
FYI I'm on leedroid.

Do you have important files on the sdcard your trying to recover? If not have you gone back to a stock recovery and tried to clear storage yet?
Hi all,
everytime I reboot the phone I get this error message.
I think it's because I used titanium backup to delete 3 files which had to do with korean / hindu and another language file or something similar...
besides the screenshot, I have no idea how to provide logs.
Appreciate the assistance.

Pretty sure it's the files you deleted. Are you on stock rom? If so, just flash the system.img. If custom Rom, dirty flash it
If I'll flash system.img, then I'll lose some settings.
Is there a way to download the system apps or open the .img file?
if none of the above, can you please see if there's an error in the logcat?

Download a stock rom zip (make sure you get the deodex or odex one that matches your current set up) and open zip. Browse to /system/app/ and pick the apks you need. Move them to your internal storage and use a file explorer with root access to copy to the /system/app folder in your phone. Make sure you change the permissions and reboot. IF that is what caused it, that will get you back to normal. If it doesn't, then just dirty flash. You really won't lose that much stuff.
Also, sometimes just clearing caches and fixing permissions in recovery can help, and if it doesn't, it won't make it worse.
If you need more help, make sure you post quote or hit me up on Hangouts.

looking at the logcat I uploaded I searched for "fatal" and it found 1 fatal issue which is com.android.systemui and it appears to be something with the battery icon which I changed using GravityBox. But the change was a week ago so I don't know what was changed.
Switching back to stock battery icon and I no longer have this issue.
But it seems that I have more errors on the log file. Do you of a forum which can assist with understanding the errors I have and how to fix them?

I have had the same issue with TWRP. While I cannot find any cause for it, a reboot (or more than one) into recovery seems to eventually result in the actual files being shown. This is even more of an issue if installing the .img and needing to then install a .zip. It can take a couple times. Strange, this has only happened with my wife's Pixel and not my XL but that may just be luck. Did not have this issue with Apha 2, only RC1.

It's because the data on your Pixel is encrypted AND TWRP can't decrypt at that time for some reasons. Keep rebooting it until it can successfully decrypt.

Don't know what to advise you further since it happens to all of us. I would only provide suggestions on issues that I myself came across. I can only relay my experience (Verizon). I use TWRP RC1. It happens to me whether or not I have my device passworded. It happens to me more often when I change boot slot. In other words, if I go to Reboot, change slot, and reboot, I would get that situation. But if, from inside TWRP, I power off the phone, then I can get a successful decryption pretty much 95% of the time. It seems like a programmatic timing issue to me. From my app development experience, sometimes if task B gets executed before task A because of driver issues or timing issues, I'd get undesired results (not unexpected, just undesired).
Are you doing a full reboot or just rebooting Recovery? I find it often have to do a full reboot for it to pick it up sometimes.

Try changing your lock screen method (in the os) to something else. I use a pattern and have had no trouble getting twrp to prompt me for it.
try to reboot recovery and system will work, I have encountered same issue.
had this issue the other day when updating to the January build. while in your current rom delete the twrp folder within your internal storage. next time you restart into TWRP, it will prompt you to enter the decryption password
Or use an external USB drive and bypass the entire decryption problem altogether.
use SD card or use OTG cable with pendrive and put file their and select OTG directory from twrp.
This is the stock unroot unmodified version of Moto X style EU (not tested on other regions). It includes the latest NOUGAT Update October 1st 2017. It works as an Android backup with TWRP only!!!
IMPORTANT
Please make a backup before trying it
TO INSTALL
1. Download the zip file: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1mgnOHP_TkgcOk3wm-bwy_vVfli1UaRFT
2. Unzip it and place the folder on your sd at (TWRP/BACKUP/TA39....)
3. Boot to TWRP recovery
4. Make a full Wipe (Dalvik Cache, Cache, Data, Sytem)
5. Select Restore, choose sd as storage and choose the file.

i've updatet my device on the the october security update, but after that something went wrong, i was able to make the stock rom back to work with this backup!
many thanks man!!!
Hi, yeah I tried this following your instructions and no matter what when I chose restore in TWRP nothing would show in the SD card. I tried the zip then the folder and then the contents of the folder only and nothing was there. Maybe I am doing something wrong? Is there a specific version of twrp that should be used?
Cheers

You need to unzip the file on the pc and put the folder inside the folder "TWRP/BACKUP/TA39....(this folder vary from device to device) /"
Be carefully to not rename the backup folder that you downloaded or it will not work because the folder name appear inside the backup files

Thanks, tried that, did a backup of my phone using TWRP and then copied the folder into the backup folder created by TWRP. Still when I choose restore no folders show up at all on the SD Card. The version of TWRP is am using is 3.1.1-0. Maybe I should try the latest? My phone is not stock but I don't think that should matter
Cheers

Do a quick check by go into your Root browser and look in these locations.
/storage/emulated
/data/system/
data/system_ce/
data/system_de/
data/misc/
data/misc_ce/
data/misc_de/
data/user/
data/user_ce/
data/user_de/
If you see any folder named 999 then you have parallel apps enabled on your device. TWRP in it's current form will not allow you to create a backup or restore a backup with parallel apps enabled.
Currently there is only one solution that I have found to be able to delete all of the 999 folders and that is to open a terminal emulator to each of these locations and remove the 999 folders individually. I have found a solution where you can delete the user ID and by doing so it removes all of the 999 folders and not only does it remove the folders they do not return once you reboot your device.
hi, thank You for answer and suggestion, unfortunately i just searched manually and with search in yotalcmd, and cant find any 999 folder.. huh?
how do i delete user id?
i have this lines from /twrp/backup/recovery.log
maybe it helps to figure a problem?

Do you have multiple account apps?
I am sorry but I'm not sure what does that exactly mean, multiple account apps?
U know one app 2 accounts in that.
Dual apps etc
What are you backing up?
For a complete backup i dont think all partitions need to be selected lol
Only maybe
/system
/storage
Idk etc
just managed to make only /system backup. not sure what exactly is only system, its not a full rom backup? huh
is there any way to make flashable full rom backup at all?
also twrp gave me mesage cannot decrypt users.. heh??
It is your rom backup LMAO
Dont backup everything.
Nothing has space for your full phone.
You should disable.force encryption for that error to stop.
wow I didn't realise that that this is actually my full backup. So that means if I wipe phone now and flash this from twrp I will have all apps and everything again?
Also, please where and how can I force encryption stop?
Thank You so much for all help!
Backup /system /data /storage
Then u will have all apps and stuff.
just tryed it, on /data it interrupts and gives again error 255.. huh.
also please how to disable encryption?
also, is there any other way to make full rom backup except from twrp since this isnt working for me??
