i've updatet my device on the the october security update, but after that something went wrong, i was able to make the stock rom back to work with this backup!
many thanks man!!!
Hi, yeah I tried this following your instructions and no matter what when I chose restore in TWRP nothing would show in the SD card. I tried the zip then the folder and then the contents of the folder only and nothing was there. Maybe I am doing something wrong? Is there a specific version of twrp that should be used?
Cheers

You need to unzip the file on the pc and put the folder inside the folder "TWRP/BACKUP/TA39....(this folder vary from device to device) /"
Be carefully to not rename the backup folder that you downloaded or it will not work because the folder name appear inside the backup files

Thanks, tried that, did a backup of my phone using TWRP and then copied the folder into the backup folder created by TWRP. Still when I choose restore no folders show up at all on the SD Card. The version of TWRP is am using is 3.1.1-0. Maybe I should try the latest? My phone is not stock but I don't think that should matter
Cheers

try and flash the .zip file. that might work
Should i flash it with the Flashtool in which folder should i copy the Zip file?
Any Screenshots from the Black Market???
if you have xrecovery you can flash from there also.. place the .zip file on the root of your sdcard .. before you do that.. did u change the name of the .apk file to Vending.apk instead of Vending_2_2_11.apk
no should i?
thats what i did before placing it in the system/apps folder
try this
1. The first step is to download Market Version 2.2.11 from here, unzip and save it on your desktop.
2. Once done, connect your phone to PC and mount SD card as flash drive.
3. Now copy the downloaded APK file to SD Card root.
4. Launch Market and download Astro File Manager.
5. Once the download is complete, launch Astro File Manager, tap on SD card and scroll down to Vending_2_2_11.apk.
6. Now tap on this apk file and press Open App Manager.
7. In this menu, tap on Upgrade and wait for the installation process to complete.
8. Once done, exit the file manage and open Market on your phone. If it opens and you can see the usual apps, then enjoy as it is success.
i have placed it in on the SD Card not in the System/app folder! But i have tried to place it in the system folder but its not possible! Cant copy?
Doesnt work with the Astro File Manager!
astro is only to upgrade. u need root explorer to make changes
No Problem i will take the old Market maybe they put the Blackmarket in one of the next Hotfixes for Free X10!
THANX Hihat!
Love the message as you flash it through xrecovery
Just installed it..but now i get a forced close message all the time.. what should i do?
*edit* uninstalled it and flashed the gapps_latest_freex10.zip back.. but the message doesn't dissapear and i can't open market.
*edit2* cleared dalvik & cache and flashed all the stuff again and it works now..

Wasn't funny for me. I have copied zip to sdcard, booted into xRecovery, installed custom zip, got scary message "Do you feel ok? you shouldn't you just blacked out"
Reboot, and I can't find market anywhere in app drawer, root explorer, anywhere... Also tried adb install apk file, but said " failure, older sdk". :-(
What am I doing wrong?
Nhoting is black on my phone whats going wrong i didn't get any errors either grtz
Edit 2.2.1 Z has market . 7 so this doesnt work there is another trhead for that one and that works
Can someone please post a screenshot?
I just got my Desire S couple days ago from Singapore but from what I understand, it has an Indian IMEI and only the Indian English available for setup.
Is it possible to flash one of the European ROMs on the device? My build number is 1.31.720.2
I think its possible if you use a Goldcard (search in the forum about it)
then start flashing the rom
Will look for it and see what I can do
Is this guide too old or would it still work - http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
Theres also:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...3/create-a-goldcard-without-adb/#entry1399590
and this:

and the easiest of all:
http://android.modaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/
Thanks for the links. So, what exactly do I do after creating the goldcard? How do I downgrade?

download the rom exe file and plug you phone -goldencard in the phone- in your pc then run the exe file
Or Once you have ran the RUU you will find a PG***.zip file in temp folder, copy that to your SD-Card and boot into bootloader and hopefully it should auto detect it.
ok guys, I will try both ways and update you guys.
I created the gold card but when I try to flash the 1.28.401.1 european rom over the current 1.31.720.2 rom that I have on this phone, I get the following error.

I am not S-OFF and I thought it wasn't necessary to be S-OFF but maybe that is the problem.
Did you put the *.zip from your temporary folder onto your goldcard and booted into hboot?

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\
There should be folder in there with random numbers and letters and another folder of the same type in there also. Within that you should find a file called ROM.zip Copy that to your goldcard and rename it to PG88DIAG.zip or PG32IMG.zip
Not sure if it will work... fingers crossed
This is all I have in the temp folder and I can't seem to find what I am looking for.
Check the first folder, there should be another folder in that too, within that should be the ROM.zip.
NOTE. Have this window open and run the ruu, when it asks you to connect the phone check the temp folder above a new folder would have been created with long numbers/letters as above and in that there should be a similar folder. Within this folder you will find the ROM.zip. DONT CLOSE THE RUU INSTALLER BEFORE YOU COPY THE ROM.ZIP or it will delete the temp folder!
Just like you said, there is another folder within the first folder but, the folder that is there is empty.

Switching to Details view in Explorer and sorting the items by date usually works best, just look for the newest folder.
(Also, there's a simple shortcut for the temp folder: %temp%, just use it like this in Start/Run or Explorer).
See, when I chose details, the newest folder is from 2.34pm , my local time, which is the first time I did the goldcard. I just did the goldcard procedure again 20 minutes ago which would make it 6pm my local time but there is no folder created for that. Interesting....
Maybe I should try to make this gold card again.
If the folders empty it means youve closed the installer!
Dont close the installer or it will delete all installation files included the rom.
Besides theres no guarantee that this will work tho?
Try empting your temp folder.
I am aware that this is my third thread about asking questions but these questions are pretty much precise and hard to find just googling online, especially when this is my first time Rooting/Flashing ROMs.
I tried to apply the ROM and it didnt continue, it said it was aborted or something
it says
cant open \rom folder name
"bad"
Installation aborted
Hi,
U may need to give more specifics.....
Phone type?
Root method?
Which ROM is giving u the problem?
Which ROM are u currently on? Or is it ur first ROM after root?
Are u installing via recovery or ROM manager?
Lastly, I'd put this post in whichever ROM u are actually trying to flash since the development crew monitor that thread of their ROM.
Good luck
Vs Nexus S 4G
Phone type? Nexus S i9020a
Root method? manual root using command prompt in computer
Which ROM is giving u the problem? pretty much any rom, maybe Im putting it in the phone's memory the wrong way?
Which ROM are u currently on? Or is it ur first ROM after root? Im using cyberGR rom right now, but I had to do it the easy way and download it through ROM manager. Im hoping I could learn doing it manually
Are u installing via recovery or ROM manager? see above ^^^
to be honest I dont really know how to put the rom inside the phone... what I did is I just unzipped it to the folder inside the Nexus S( mounted storage to PC)
went to recovery and picked that folder, but then it says:
cant open \rom folder name
"bad"
Installation aborted
Ahh. Don't unzip it. Throw the .zip itself on the phone.

and same applies for custom themes, widgets, launchers, icons ect? How do I access it through the phone?
Any flashable zip can be installed by going to "install zip from SD card" select the zip file and it will install automatically.

If the author of the zip file says: "Flashable through CWM (Clockworkmod)" then it can be installed in this way. No unzipping required.

Are you sure you have cwm on there? Top of ROM manager, reflash cwm. Doing it manually is simpler than from manager. Just boot into recovery, wipe what you need to and install the relevant .zips.

its sounds like you dont have a custom recovery installed. if you did flash clockworkmod recovery from rom manager(i hate that app), chances are that your custom recover disappeared. try flashing cwm recovery through fastboot.
Hey together.
(at first: I do not want use a finished custom rom. I am happy as my Rome is now running)
I Would like to deodex my JB Stock Rom to coustomize my self with Mods and other but for almost everything i used a deodexed Rom. I tried xUltima and the Android Kitchen, v0.223 by dsixda and both doesn't work.
On the Android Kitchen, v0.223 by dsixda i can't find my TWRP Backup and i don't know how i convert it or somthig else.
On xUltima i become instantly an Error. When i delete the odex file which caused the error i become instantly a another error.
Here is a Picture from xUltima:

no one an idea?
Make a imitation ROM:
Create a dump.
Download Rhythm Manager's version of file manager.
Now go to / (self explanatory) and copy system.
It'll take a while, but copy it to sdcard.
Now copy the file onto computer. Find a ROM and copy the META_INF.
Make a empty boot.img.
Put the boot.img, system, and meta_inf into a zip folder. THis would be your ROM.
You can take it from there.

1) Yes. Any ROM is okay. Just get it from an actual ROM.
2) Step 1: unhide extension by going explorer.exe --> organize --> Folder and search options --> view --> uncheck Hide extension ... --> click apply to folders--> Apply. Now simply make a .txt file on desktop and rename the extension as img, and the file name make it boot.
Hello people
Today I flashed the Xiaomi EU android 11 to check it out and saw some bugs and wanted to downgrade to android 10.
I flashed the stock rom as I was downgrading and installed TWRP, Fully wiped the phone and wanted to restore my backup, but it says " extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR: 255 " when restoring the data. Needless to say, I had to type my password when I booted to recovery and I had Fingerprint and Pincode enabled when I was backing up. now I checked the recovery log and the error is
Code:
==> extracting: //data/misc/recovery/ (mode 40770, directory)
tar_extract_file(): failed to extract //data/misc/recovery/ !!!
When I browse that Directory there is some files named Fingerprint so looks like this is making some issues.
Could someone please help me out how I am able to delete this directory and try restoring my Data ?
I have tried any way of wiping and installing stock rom but still I get this error.
Looks a recovery error. Is the back up made with different recovery? Looks like it cannot find or extract it from the back up. Can you get back to where you were when you made the back up and restore from there?
If not, looks like a format and start again.

Yeah it is from the same recovery.
It is a common error when you google it. but the fix they have mentioned does not work for me. It is like I should somehow delete that folder or files causing the issue from the backup and restore it.

You'll need to mount it on a pc, extract the folder and compress it again or delete it from the archive and save. I would make a copy first though.

ok I am able to extract it with WinRar. but how should I compress so the TWRP will not face issues? on Winrar I have RAR,RAR4 and ZIP that I think will not work.
Use 7 zip.
To create a tar file, you can highlight the files you'd like to archive, right-click, and go to 7-Zip > Add to archive. In the 'Add to Archive' menu, just select 'tar' as your archive format and click OK.
Did you get it fixed?

No, it didnt work. When i extracted the file using 7zip I got errors for everyfile. I think the issue is with the pincode and the data being encrypted. So next time I should remove the lockscreen and backup my data.
Goos thing I had backed up on Google Account.
Thanks for letting us know but good luck my friend
im having the same error in my realme xt... I have a twrp backup of system image vendor image data boot recovery persist but im unable to recover because it shows an error extract tar fork process ended up with error 255{i too have locked the phone with pincode during backup} ....i also have a backup of my internal storage in twrp but im not able to restore because of this error.... kindly help me
Some of the TWRP we use on Mi 10 ultra, dont able to decrypt data using Fingerprint or pin, you need to use pattern, this is a TWRP bug.
What a bull**** bug. There should be warnings about this at least when people go to create a backup.
