How to install 5.1.1 without losing data...

Hey Guys,
My N5 is currently running android 5.1 and I want to upgrade to 5.1.1. My phone also shows that the OTA update is available but I am currently rooted and running TWRP. A quick google research showed me that I can´t install an OTA update while being on TWRP. Is there any other way to update my phone to 5.1.1 without losing my data?
Greets
I have this exact same question. I was going to try and use fastboot with the system image and recovery and then take the ota update. Not sure if that will work.
I got impatient, so i downloaded the factory image from the web for the version of my phone (lmy47d). I extracted the system.img and recovery.img and flashed them with fastboot as stated here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...orial-applying-ota-update-stock-root-t2976556
Rebooted the phone and then applied the OTA update. Phone is updating the apps after boot. So far seems ok.
Thank you I will try it out later
You don't lose data by default? At least not for me

OTA's failing on stock unmodified phone claiming system is mounted as r/w

**Resolved** I managed to resolve this by re-enabling all apps I'd disabled using the normal android option in settings (just google newsstand etc.), It wouldn't update from an OTA or a full package of a later version but it would accept an update from YNG1TAS2I3 that it was already on, it updated over the top of itself and after that OTA's seem to be working, there's a lot to do though.

Hi, I'm trying to update a family members phone from YNG1TAS2I3. The phone is completely stock, it's never been modified or rooted at all. It only runs apps from Google Play and it was updated to this version by OTA.
Recovery gives the following error when installing the update:
/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system has been remounted r/w; reflash drvice to reenable ota updates
Any ideas? I really really don't want to have to factory reset it, root it or put a custom recovery on it? Can I force flash it over the top to marshmallow without unlocking the bootloader or anything? I've also tried flashing the full rom from stock recovery but that doesn't seem to work either.
Thanks,

[ROOT] Do I need to unformat data when updating?

I'm not completely new to rooting and custom recoveries but I don't have much experience on Xiaomi devices. So I know your data is formatted when you use a password or fingerprints on your phone. I'm rooted on 10.2.2.0 (PEEMIXM) global and want to update to the new 10.3.2.0 release, if I take the fingerprints and passcode off my phone does the data become unformatted? Does the data being formatted matter when flashing an OTA update in TWRP, reflashing TWRP, then reflashing Magisk?
Thanks!

Upgrading with patched magisk image no TWRP

I have been trying to figure out whether it is possible to update my OP7P that is running a patched 10.3.0 magisk IMG to 10.3.1 without twrp and without erasing the phone? I would like to retain all of my data and upgrade to new version. I have already patched a new image of 10.3.1GM21AA,but have no upgraded yet because I'd like so see if I am able to retain all data while at the same time upgrading
On a side note, if I am unable to install new upgrade without having to erase device what is my best option to make a backup of my device(without twrp)? I know about Google backup, but that doesn't back everything up.
Edit: just to be clear I know how to update to new patched boot img, but not without losing data. I would just like to know whether it's possible to update with only magisk and not lose any data.

TWRP and Magisk: how to use OTA updates without losing the data

Clarifying this once and for all: TWRP and magisk how to consume OTAs?
Hi folks,
My Poco is rooted with Magisk, has a TWRP recovery and is still stuck on 12.0.8.0 (QJGEUXM).
How can I apply OTA updates without loosing my data?
Actually I thought that I can download the right recovery update file from the update tracker thread and then just select it in the advanced updater menu. But none of the files I've tried seems to be installable.
My thought was, that I have to update via the updater and the reinstall magisk before rebooting the phone.
Is that correct?
Or what's the proper way to install an full update file via TWRP without loosing the data?
