OTA's failing on stock unmodified phone claiming system is mounted as r/w - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

**Resolved** I managed to resolve this by re-enabling all apps I'd disabled using the normal android option in settings (just google newsstand etc.), It wouldn't update from an OTA or a full package of a later version but it would accept an update from YNG1TAS2I3 that it was already on, it updated over the top of itself and after that OTA's seem to be working, there's a lot to do though.

Hi, I'm trying to update a family members phone from YNG1TAS2I3. The phone is completely stock, it's never been modified or rooted at all. It only runs apps from Google Play and it was updated to this version by OTA.
Recovery gives the following error when installing the update:
/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system has been remounted r/w; reflash drvice to reenable ota updates
Any ideas? I really really don't want to have to factory reset it, root it or put a custom recovery on it? Can I force flash it over the top to marshmallow without unlocking the bootloader or anything? I've also tried flashing the full rom from stock recovery but that doesn't seem to work either.
Thanks,

update 68 or any update and root shield

i tried to install update 68, the shield reboots get me to the screen with the android on its back, select the update install, then it errors out?
is the device being rooted causing the issue o the bootloader.
also if this or any small update installed correctly would i lose my root access,
if i lose root, will i always have to start from a factory rest and lose all my information to root it again.
thanks
An unlocked bootloader is not the problem. If you somehow modified the system image ( like rooted/removed apps, integrated updates into ROM, installed custom recovery or something else) the update process will fail because of it. That might have to do with the fact its an incremental update which checks if it is modified/rooted and/or will update apps which aren´t there anymore.
One way to solve this is to backup your apps and data. Then flash stock recovery and stock image via fastboot and install all updates from the beginning.
The other way is to go to Nvidias Support Page for the Shield. Then download the latest Update for it. It´s an sh package which needs to be extracted under Ubuntu or special tool for windows. Then you can flash the newest image and recovery directly with fastboot. Didn´t try that.
Hope i was able to help you.

Can't flash update firmware even get ota update notification.

I bought a China set of OPO last month. I thought this phone originally installed Color Os rom and then re-installed to CM11s 44s version when it selling. When I turned on the phone for the first time, I already get the update notification for the 05q version. So, I tried to update it but it failed to update it for many times that I tried. My phone rebooted when I clicked "flash updates" and loading for a while then failed in cyanogen recovery. I also tried with manually update with downloaded zip file and installed it in cyanogen recovery. It still failed with mentioned "system 7..." message. Is there any way to fix this problem if I want to flash cm11s latest update firmware, rather than use other custom roms? ??
It's impossible to know what the seller did to the phone before you got it so it's probably a good idea to flash the stock images and start from scratch. Go to my guide thread here:

If your bootloader is locked you'll need to unlock it, but be aware that doing so wipes all user data. Install TWRP recovery and make a nandroid backup of your current setup just in case. Then flash the stock images using fastboot.

How to install 5.1.1 without losing data...

Hey Guys,
My N5 is currently running android 5.1 and I want to upgrade to 5.1.1. My phone also shows that the OTA update is available but I am currently rooted and running TWRP. A quick google research showed me that I can´t install an OTA update while being on TWRP. Is there any other way to update my phone to 5.1.1 without losing my data?
Greets
I have this exact same question. I was going to try and use fastboot with the system image and recovery and then take the ota update. Not sure if that will work.
I got impatient, so i downloaded the factory image from the web for the version of my phone (lmy47d). I extracted the system.img and recovery.img and flashed them with fastboot as stated here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...orial-applying-ota-update-stock-root-t2976556
Rebooted the phone and then applied the OTA update. Phone is updating the apps after boot. So far seems ok.
Thank you I will try it out later
You don't lose data by default? At least not for me

Using FlashFire to apply OTA upgrades?

I have a rooted One Plus 6 running on stock Oxygen OS 9.0 There is an OTA update available at the moment. I have used FlashFire on my previous phone (Nexus 6P) and it worked flawlessly in keeping the root and applying OTA updates without any steps required. All I had to do was launch the app, it detected the firmware, and I would let it install. I purchased the professional version of the app as the free version stopped working at some point.
When I launch the same app on my OP6 and select "Flash zip or OTA" option I get another screen that has three options to check:
1. Auto-mount: Mount common paths before running update. Rarely necessary. Enable for A/B device OTAs, disable for all other OTAs.
2. Mount / system read / write: Mount /system read / write by default, rather than read-only. Doing this only once may break the future OTAs, Enable when flashing custom firmwares.
3. Restore boot and recovery images: Attempt to restore boot and recovery images before flashing. May be required for some OTA. Disable for non-OTA updates.
What's confusing me is the third option as that is already checked. It sounds like this option would install a factory image back on the phone? Should I uncheck it and check #1 as the only option?
If your bl is unlocked then you can't use ota to update. You have to flash the full zip in twrp.

I just found the instructions for update in another thread. I will have to use the blu-spark twrp to update it. Since I have never done it before, my question is, is it going to leave all the data and the app data intact? Things like pictures, videos, messages from messaging apps? Because in my mind I always thought of flashing the full image the same way as reinstalling the OS on any desktop computer - it deletes everything.
I am guessing the answer is no?
Is your bl already unlocked?

BL is unlocked and the phone is rooted.

okay so if you have it setup Google will backup your apps calls and network settings and you will be able to sign out to your Google account and choose to restore it. For photos.. If you have Google photos installed it will backup everything you have told it to. But you shouldn't have to worry about any of this if you are just dirty flashing the update. Everything will be the way it was is like an ota only difference is you manually flashing the full room zip in twrp. So if your just dirty flashing you shouldn't lose any data.
Thanks! I will give it a try sometime later this week.

Update Troubles

Hi everybody, i am currently running OxygenOS 5.1.0 and i am trying to update to latest version.
1. I tried with local update inside settings but nothing the message is: unable to install system update
2. I tried unlocking bootloader, installing TWRP and trying to install update via TWRP but i get stuck in Error7, seems like the package is not recognized for my phone.
I rad a lot about removing assert rows inside update scripts in the .zip package. Unfortunately in my package there is no update-script and i don't know any possible way to force my installation. Do you have any suggestion?
I'd recommend to go back to full stock (lock bootloader) and then try to do all the OTA updates. It's not working for you this way?
