How come there are no custom ROMS for this device yet? - Motorola Edge Questions & Answers

This Motorola Edge has been out for several months already and there are no custom roms out for the device. Was it that much of a commercial flop?

Uh, there's no active developer. It's a niche phone like the z3 Play.

Have you tried a GSI ROM?

Hm, Z3 Play has official Lineage support, so you're welcome. Besides, development takes time and unless someone is willing to pay someone to spend 100% of there time working on development for a particular device, most due it in their free time, which can be limited.

Why is software/rom development virtually non-existent for LG Fathom?

I have conducted many searches on anything pertaining to software or rom development for the LG Fathom, but find very little. One of the reasons I bought the phone was because of the OS and the possibilities of customization. It was something I enjoyed abut owning an HTC Excalibur and made me want to own another Windows Mobile phone. Is the phone too difficult to tailor to or is it just not popular enough? Being one of the later models to include 6.5.3 I'm surprised it doesn't have it's own sub-forum. I know there's an issue with app access to the accelerometer, for example. Is there no one willing to tackle this? This phone has so much potential it'd be a shame to see it go to waste.
Anyone....
probably because its not popular enough. if more people had this phone, then that would be a different story
Well, at least that's something. Thanks, dude.

Hi, my opinion is the same. People who works modifying roms, likes to work with popular devices.

I can understand that, but it's a shame to let its potential go to waste. I just found out I'll be getting an HD7 on the first, anyways.

Custom system status

Hello, looking at the developpement forum there is little to no developpement for this device, there's root, one custom kernel and that's all.
Is there any specific reason for this lack of custom system? No one is interested or required code is close sourced and no one wish to deal wish that?
Regards
I guess I should take this absence of replies as my answer.

That's because the Shield is almost perfect as it is.
Theres no need for a custom rom since Nvidia keeps the rom clean and close to AOSP as possible and added features most gamers need.
just remember, it's not a phone or tablet.
As I don't own the device I could not know it was that near perfection. Thanks you!

If you don't the device then why would you care if there is any development activity or not? Also the Shield 2 is about to be released so why would developers waste time on the older model?

Because I don't want to buy a device and be locked out.
I don't think working on older model is a waste of time... Or the hd2 and alike are waste of time?
If developing for older devices is a waste of time it would mean a device would have 3 months of developpement, because there will be a new device out... That would be sad...

How are We supposed to know? If you are not going to build them yourself, nobody will (at the moment). It will happen like with the Honor 4C, Honor 7, Huawei P8 Lite, etc...
It's being worked on!

ROM Hexa-project. Some devoloper for Natrium? Please

I offer myself as a tester. I don't know to compile ROMS
Perhaps you should try RR and feedback missing features? I wouldn't expect anything until the kernel source is released though.
I don't understand because Xiaomi has this politic. Xiaomi has that to sell first a new model for free source code of others old models. My great dissolusion with Xiaomi only to sell her software she doesn't allow that the community developers do their great work with this fantastics ROM for example LineageOs, AICP, Hexa-project, Resurrection Remix, Etc......

My man, I fully understand your point, hell I share it.
But you bought the phone fully knowing this was going to happen. If you did not you flat out did not do your homework.
Xiaomi is always lagging heavily on releasing their sources and has always been very vague regarding their release dates. Heck they often simply drop it out of nowhere.
If you wanted the source code NOW and this was not debatable you should have bought the 3T.

It just strikes me as very odd that one is willing to throw at least 400 bucks without checking how active rom development is.
I bought this phone with the idea that the source code will be released before end of may.
If it does not happen I'd be quite sad, but the current RR is actually really ****ing good. I don't actually mind as much.
So, once again, referring to my first post, did you even try RR?
This work is for @NexusPenguin, friend if you have a little time can you please try to compile Hexa-Project and ValidusOS

Hi,
LOL... Don't forget that, on the other side of the river, I mean the iOS side, people spend 1000 bucks on their phone not even knowing what development and custom ROM even is as even the concept can hardly be imagined
I'll try to compile Validus (I'm part of the GZR team anyways so it was planned right after I got Tipsy to boot) and Hexa-OS (that I didn't know before).
I'll keep you put here of course
Regards.

Hi,
I've looked at the Hexa-OS project.
I think you should give up all hope to have it ported to mi5s Plus.
The Hexa-OS is a purely NON-CAF project meant only for Google devices (Nexus Line and Pixel Line).
It can be ported for other devices, but that will require a lot of work and specific skills that I do not have and do not intend to acquire.
But I am in the Validus team and will try to build, even though I already face problems
But I ALWAYS had problems with Validus
Regards.

I didn't imply to refer to the whole community, heck I figure +95% gives negative ****s about custom ROMs.
It just strikes me as odd that people who actually care about ROM development don't bother to check its popularity beforehand.
Especially if it's more than 200 bucks.
Good to know you're ontop of this, I'll await the times of the released kernels and sail the seas of unrestricted ROM development

Hi downloading right now
Hi,
Looking at another post/thread, it seems that Jan Pavulovic has managed to build this ROM for the mi5s Plus.
Weird, I really thought it was an AOSP non-caf ROM.
Maybe there's another branch ?
Regards.

Question Android 12 Custom Rom

Why there is no android 12 custom rom for samsung galaxy A52 4G. It has been a year now still no development. Almost all other midrange smartphones of xiaomi with low hardware have custom roms. We desperately want to have it on our A52 please if someone from team can develop this would be highly appreciated. Thank you

This is not true. Android 12 was officially released in October 2021, and thats about the time where I started to make LinageOS 18.1 for this phone. (look here)
And in my opinion it's smarter to wait until we have OneUI 4 and then make android 12 based custom ROMs, since this will make everything a thousand times easier.
Thank you for clearing my doubt. I really feel relieved as there is someone who is working hard for many of the fans like me. I highly appreciate your efforts and wating eagerly for your build. Thank you
Xiaomi phones have a lot of custom rom support because MIUI is not loved by everyone and has bugs, which we don't have on the A52. This is why it is better to wait for an official release of Android 12 since the devs will have a good base to work off of and won't have to build everything from scratch.
I've seen the Exynos 7870 community fall to bits because people wanted more out of the devs, so let us not let that happen to the A52 community too!

Luckily you probably won't have to wait much longer sine official OneUI 4 was released yesterday in Russia for both A52 and A72. So it'll likely not take much time until it's available in all countries.

I am glad to hear that
Either you can contribute by developing or by donating to those who do.
But a community doesn't work well if there are just a handful dedicated ambitous developers working their ass off in their free time and on the other hand hundreds of people shouting **"I want ROM, why is it not here!?!"**.
But that's a common pattern on this site unfortunately

I am not compelling them or ordering them to do so.. I just asked my concern and I requested them. That's it
I get that, but unless one offers something in return, like "a few bucks, for those, who volunteer to maintain some custom ROM build" I don't think this kind of post does much. My wording was slightly unfriendly though, I apologize.
