I've spent all morning googling and I'm surprised to find no other posts/users looking for what I am. Please help. I'm looking for an app to fully backup and restore a rooted Nexus 4 (16gb isn't a lot) with the following specs/functions:
- for rooted devices (because apps for rooted devices can simply do a bit more)
- fully automated (set it and forget it)
- cloud sync (not just upload or writing over old version - if the app/data is unchanged, it shouldn't be copied)
- paid app but no subscription based
- able to restore to other devices
- media/SD card sync is a bonus, but not obligatory
- and the MOST important: cloud based (local files aren't needed, or deleted once sync'd). Backup/uload to the cloud should happen app by app (incrementally), so I don't need to clean memory so I'll room for a single 1.5 gig backup file, for example.
I've been playing with nandroid backups, Titanium, G Cloud and Helium (aka ex-Carbon), but all seem to missing one of the above, or I'm just doing it wrong...or I need to use a solution combining several apps. Please correct me if I'm wrong on my analysis of the following:
- TiBackup does a real sync (not just overwriting) with the cloud, but needs to keep a local copy of the backup. With no SD card slot, I DON'T want 1.6 gigs just sitting there for nothing.
- Helium doesn't really sync, it just overwrites. Not a problem running at night, but still a waste of bandwidth.
- G Cloud is a subscription service. (or you can jump through hoops to get more free capacity)
- ROM manager premium is automated, but nandroid backups aren't very compatible on other devices
So, I'm presently testing G Gloud and getting ready to put on my jumping shoes...thanks for any advice!
What did you end up with?
I haven't found a good alternative.

Are you still using G Cloud ? and how did you find it? well because I'm one of the developers and we are currently planning to release a new update that would make purchasing space done only once no subscriptions needed.
So just wanted to let you know
I can't get apps + app data restored from my moto g (no sd card slot) Google drive storage, to my newish galaxy s4. When from my new device I sync to drive, titanium seems to replace my stored apps & data with the trivial data from the new phone. Of course, I want to bring the moto phone's data to the new one. Could it be that I need to move my old android device id to the new phone, and then sync? Maybe there's a more elegant solution, I.e., making a titanium zip, sync it to drive, move back to new phone folder, etc?
( I've used titanium backup pro successfully from HTC Eris (2009) thru several generations of droids. But stuck here-maybe old brain just can't hack it any more)
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
Device ID is critical, so's making sure having same Gmail Account.
You can also take a Nandroid on Moto G and the use that with [APP][v2.4] Nandroid Manager on Galaxy S4.
Please post in Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting so that the right experts may be of help.
Was on Android previously, but spent the last 2 years on iOS and one thing I loved was the automated wireless cloud backups to iCloud, even though I didn't buy into the rest of iCloud.
I know Android doesn't have a seamless solution for this. I am going to get a Z3/Z3c and will NOT be rooting.
Can someone bring me up to date on Android...I know Android will back up all my core device settings. But basically I would love something relatively dead simple for the following:
* Actual application backups (data + settings, though I don't care if I have to re-download the app again)
* SMS, Call logs, backup
* Photo roll backup would be nice too (I am willing to load Google+ photos just for easy backup and restore, even if I don't use it)
* Easy android phone to phone backups and restores (e.g. I need to replace a broken Z3 with a new one, or I decide to switch from a Z3 to some other phone next year)
Helium sounds good, but the app says the following on google play store [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en]:
"""Note: Some Sony devices have issues with Helium. This includes the Xperia S and Xperia Z. Sony has *disabled* backup on these devices completely."""
I'm hoping this does not apply to the Z3?
Does anyone have experience using Sony's OSX Bridge or PC Companion for Z3 backup/restore? (nearly everything I read on the web says it has lots of issues
How about Helium for Z3 backup and restore while not rooted?
Some things that make my situation easier - all my contacts, Calendars, Mail are with Google exchange, I manage my music on my own with MediaMonkey, wireless/cloud backup would be great (willing to pay a one time app purchase for this) but I can live with backup over usb. I have a local NAS I can use for wifi backups as well if possible.
anyone using any of these backup methods I described above?
I recently messed up my current Pixel 3a XL trying to do some repairs on it (I'd rather not discuss it :crying:). I am probably just gonna end up biting the bullet and getting another one.
But here's where the problem comes in... If I could, I would like to do a full backup of my current Pixel and then just flash it all over to the new one once I get it. That'd make set up the easiest. But I dont have a working screen on the old one. So how would I go about doing that? I would also prefer if I didn't root the new one, so I could keep google pay and all that without having to mess with magisk or anything...
Should I just suck it up and deactivate/move 2FA and stuff by hand?
@Zombtastic if you are doing a backup to e.g. Google drive, you can easily set up your new device from an existing device and almost all of your apps and settings can be restored automatically ... beside those settings where the developer decided to not allow backup of the data / settings.
You can also do a ADB backup of your device as long as you have adb enabled on your device. With this option you can also backup the content of your (internal) sdcard but it has the same restrictions as the cloud backup: if a developer of an app decides to not allow backup of data and settings, nothing will be backed up.
All other solutions need root access and you can e.g. use something like Titanium Backup or the tools I am currently developing (https://forum.xda-developers.com/an.../tools-anddisa-backup-restore-tools-t4016617) ... but as they are still in an early stage and you do not have a working screen, it's on you whether you would like to try.

If you've done a full backup (which you should do before making a major change to ANY device), simply restore from that backup; backups since Android 7 are not device-specific as long as you use the included backup utilities; instead, they are linked to your Google account. Before I got my Pixel 3a, I used both Google's own "generic" backup utilities and Samsung's backup utilities; thus I could restore from either. Since I crossed from the S7 to the Pixel 3a, I still can (for the rather odd reason that even Samsung's backup utilities are NOT tied to the phone - but to your Samsung account settings; the Samsung account settings are different from those used by Google). The generic backup utilities are included with Android 8 and later (thus Oreo, Pie, and Android 10).

Just in case anyone else stumbles on this like I did (just noticed the date.
You can't do a FULL backup with any of these methods AFAICT.
You can backup up all your apps that allow it and the data associated with them but not low level stuff like
radios boot image etc.
If you have backed up to the Google Cloud (your Google drive) it will restore lots of stuff automagically but you will still have the
same ... level of android, bootloader, radio, patch level even when the restore is completed.
Then you have to update everything and put in place any mods that you did.
Might be different with root apps which I am about to try.
Ulitimate Backup root or Titanium backup.
if you have TWRP installed that is by far the best and easiest way to get a FULL backup from what I understand.
Hi Guys, it seems like we cant fully backup x3 pro via TWRP, do you guys know a way via PC to easily backup/restore our phone regardless of what ROM?
Cheers.

Mi Phone Assistant/ Mi PC suite ver.4.2 beta English version
Keep in mind sometimes the backup is not complete, especially for apps backup.
Also had read MIUI 12.5 version has some problem with it's backup function.

I use V4.0.259 with my poco f2 pro and redmi note 7 whithout problems.
I tested the other one and I didn't keep it (I can't remember why).
Whatever you use, backup the PC data drive (which you should be using if possible; ie a dual drive setup) to at least 2 hdds that are physically and electronically isolated from each other.
One drive is not enough, a virus or a near lightning strike can destroy it just like that.
Secure redundancy prevents complete critical data loss.

Some people cannot restore their data.
Some people lost their chat log backup restore for some communicating apps, which the apps don't use cloud storage rather use storage of the users. So if the data of the app was cleared from the phone, there is no backup.
Some cases lost a few pictures or videos. Not all, but some.
You can use, but if in any case you cannot restore, there's no hope.
Check here for those report errors.
MIUI also has it's built-in backup restore. But personally didn't use it before.

Not my case, except some apps like google message, maps, apps bank and all secure apps of course.
For app backups, try multiple apps / programs to backup.
Higher Android versions has more security concerns that makes backup difficult.
In the past, Titanium backup was great, but no more updates.
OAndBackupX: Your open-source tool to backup your apps … and their data.
You can try also Google backup.
But for backup to be like Ghost or whatever for Windows, it's harder now. I'm not sure if you can still do that now. And most problematic is to restore perfectly.
On the old versions of Mi pc suite, the choice was app or app + data.
Titanium backup requires root.
Google backup doesnt work if you change rom version.
There's no perfect programs on PC to backup/restore phone regardless of ROM.
For MIUI, they have official program that was already provided earlier. But just keep in mind sometimes may not work properly.
Switching between Roms with data restore is very hard.
I know apps that backup/restores apps on Android mostly require root. It's another way of backup just in case.

Backup all critical data files manually to hdds.
Reject apps that allow only cloud backup, they can fail you miserably.
Verify the backed up files are restorable
Use direct file transfer; do not clone critical data files!!! Cloning can remove needed null marks which will damage the data. You may not notice it at first but... you will
Stagger you backups so all can't be damaged or destroyed at once by malware.
Never connect a backup hdd to a suspected compromised or foreign PC

Thanks for the explanation. That's what I want to say to not trust only 1 app/program.
Reject apps that allow only cloud backup, only if you can live without that app.
If your boss of your company force you to use, let say like apps from China, eg. Wechat communicating apps, you have no choice not to use it. Your boss sends you orders through them, you must receive and read them.
And maybe similar as Whatsapp, though I don't use it anymore. Not sure if you have to backup Whatsapp stuff or not after Facebook bought it.
