5g on unlocked note 20 ultra? - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Hi guys i got a Verizon note 20 ultra other day for $250 bucks. Its pretty much new but its locked so im going to pay to have unlocked? My ? Is will i be able to get 5g on this from att even though its a unlocked device? I know in the past when i unlocked Verizon phones they would work but would stay vzw and say sim not from Verizon. And would get like lte and 4g at the top on the notifications area. I had a s20 plus i got cheap cheap from sprint. I paid to unlock it and it didnt have any carrier bloatware on it. When i poped in a att sim i got LTE only and did get LTE+ but didnt say 5G. It did hower get like 68mbs on speed test and top out at like 120mbs. But my note 10 im useing now gets like 6mbs. Not sure what 5G speeds are like and if that sounds about right or not.

S7 AT&T or TMobile Model

Hey guys im going to be pre-ordering tomorrow and want to know your thoughts on which carrier variant to go with. I have AT&T where I live but I have heard that tmobiles phone are usually easier to get bootloader unlocked, or they come pre unlock. Which one do you think is a better choice?
I'm sure the tmobile one will have all. The band's requires for att.. Or at least the main ones. If you're looking at modding, go the tmobile route. But Idk how easy it will be to get the tmobile one and have them unlock it for you. I went through hell with my s6 edge and getting them to unlock it

I am debating the same thing. Last time I got a TMOB, and paid for a 3rd party unlock which took a week. Then canceled the TMOB service before the 30 days were up.
TMOB won't unlock phones until they are on plan after two payment cycles and the phone is fully paid off.
Now TMOB unlocks via app and I understand there is a 3rd party vendor that might be able to get them unlocked, but might be troublesome. I asked my sister who is a TMOB customer if she could just outright buy the phone for me but she said under her plan they require her to surrender her old phone so I have to put it on their stupid plan.
Not sure if you can get the phone via MetroPCS as a pre-paid plan and avoid this nonsense but it seems their phone choices are severely limited.
Definitely looking for a better way to get an unlocked bootloader.
I'm in the same boat. Have an AT&T S4 and finally looking to upgrade but after the hell AT&T gave with the S4 locked bootloader I think T-mobile is the way to go. Just hope unlocking it for AT&T will be a straight forward process.
The guy that unlocked an S6 for me emailed me back that he was not sure yet if he could unlock a TMOB S7.
I believe AT&T has more bands than T-Mobile.
Will get the AT&T model as will use with prepaid carriers and AT&T supports most T-Mobile bands. T-Mobile does not support all AT&T bands.

The only bands that are missing from the 930T (t-mobile version) versus the 930A (AT&T) are bands 29 and 30 which don't appear to be used in the US at all. I found the bands on the product pages on both sites. You are better off getting the t-mobile one and hope for an unlocked bootloader. AT&T will be locked down for sure.

That's great news, thanks for checking.
What I'm currently debating is preordering the AT&T S7 from Best Buy to get in on the VR and MicroSD, then just selling once an unlocked T-Mobile variant becomes available No other way to preorder a 930T without an account right?
The TMOB preorder is up. You need to subscribe to a plan to order it. It does not let you pre-order it on a post paid or prepaid plan.
I am really hesitant to preorder it since TMOB sucks and won't unlock until after 2 billing cycles. And you have to unlock it using their app verses typing in a code provided by a 3rd party unlocker after you turn the phone on when a non-TMOB sim is inserted.
Guess I'll have to wait until some unlocked ones appear on Swappa or Fleabay. Hate doing that as I was just burned with a phone that that eventually popped up with a blacklisted IMEI.
Like Flame Red said, there's no way to get the T-Mobile one without signing up for a plan but you also get a year of Netflix with the t-mobile one that's worth WAY more than the microSD from Best Buy. You can cancel the plan immediately though and hope for a third party unlocking service to unlock the phone for a fee.

Is there a place to order the 930F Global version? Will that have all the bands required for ATT & TMO?
Are there any Galaxy S7 that will support CDMA and GSM.
I looking to go prepaid route and Sprint prepaid MVNO and T-Mobile prepaid MVNO with maybe some AT&T prepaid.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
According to this thread, the underlying hardware is the same for all S7 variants and the bands are turned on/off via the radio files. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/finally-single-hardware-variant-carriers-t3308040
Should be interesting if I decide to get a t-mobile S7 and possibly being able to "turn on" the extra bands at a later date.
Looks like it doesn't matter which one you get anymore: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Cert...the-carrier-of-the-first-SIM-inserted_id78809
The S7 should "lock" to the first carrier's sim you insert. Would love confirmation of this if someone gets the T-Mobile one and puts in an AT&T sim.
Will see, hoping some users will get the phone soon, and confirm before I purchase.
clove.co.uk is now showing pre-orders for the unlocked international s7 (and edge). Interestingly enough, they're showing it having the SD820 whereas I thought EU was getting the Exynos!?

So technically speaking, no matter what version ill get it will be locked to att after I put in that sim card?
I wonder if that means the bootloaders will be the same on all the models, since they are all the same except for the radio differences?
Neither for me. International versions only
As far as unlocking goes, I've been in that scene for about 6 months. If it's an app unlock, no biggie, it'll just cost about $30 more than without the app unlock. You should expect to pay about $20-50 for the unlock once the phone comes out. No sweat!
The big difference between att and tmobile is not the sim lock, but the fact that att phones come with locked bootloaders thereby severely limiting their attractiveness to the mod community.

Verizon Note 10+ on TMobile

I came across a Note 10+ that was purchased from Verizon and I wanted to use it on TMobile. I know the Verizon devices are SIM unlocked so voice and data should work fine however I am worried that I will still be stuck with all the Verizon bloat and WIFI calling won't work.
Does anything change to TMobile's when you factory reset the device and put in a TMobile SIM?
Thanks in advance!
It might still be locked, unless 60 days passed
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...shing-unlocked-firmware-verizon-note-t3988979
Yes Verizon locked phones for 60 days. Then they automatically unlock phones.

5G compatibility ?

Anyone have luck getting actual 5G with AT&T? (None of their 5G E bull****)
I have the unlocked version (bought directly from OnePlus) running on AT&T and I called them to see what could be done. Not much! To try and figure out if this is an AT&T issue, or a OnePlus issue...well your guess is as good as mine! VoLTE is selectable and working. I am able to make a phone call and still have access to the internet. I am not sure who to point a finger at to get 5G working, but I might say it's up to OnePlus. My reasoning is this: I had the unlocked Galaxy S20 FE for a few weeks running with the same sim on AT&T and it appeared as if 5G was working. So it appears as if AT&T is not stopping unlocked phones from accessing their 5G network??? So if my theory is correct then it's up to OnePlus to make the 8T work on the AT&T 5G network. Of course I could be completely wrong here and I hope someone somewhere can figure all this crap out for us all! Just like everything else today...it's all a smelly-hot-pile!
Dumb question, but did you have a 5g SIM?
I stopped by an AT&T store tonight and picked up a new SIM card. Bastages charged me $5 for it. Haven't used the 8T yet though.
According to AT&T the sim I have is the latest one available. As I mentioned when I had the S20 FE for a few weeks the 5G icon was active 90% of the time on the notification bar. Once in a while it would drop to 4G LTE. So now I am using the exact same sim on the 8T and their is NO 5G anywhere to be found! So, I don't think AT&T is preventing unlocked phones from accessing their 5G network....but rather I believe OnePlus needs to "do something" to make it work!

Ordered a Pixel 5 from the google store for Verizon unlockable bootloader?

So I ordered the phone through the google store with the option to get the finance deal through verizon. I'm curious if I'm going to get a bootloader unlockable phone since I placed the order through the google store and the phone should be coming from google not verizon. I get the phone in a couple of days, I'll update this when I get it.
If you bought the VZW version, it will be locked, and is not unlockable.
Anything that comes with carrier discounts and financing will be locked.
Yes, that is usually the case although some will allow unlocking once the device is paid off. Verizon does not do that currently. Also it needs to be clear that Google sells 3 versions of Pixel 5 (and other Pixels). Google brand unlocked entirely, Google Fi also unlocked but serviced and warrantied by Fi, and the Verizon one which is not bl unlockable.
Well that sucks, but it's what I expected. The unlocked version of the phone would not work on Verizon's 5G network which is why I went in that direction instead. Oh well...
I have the unlocked version here rooted on Verizon via sim swap from my pixel 2, and I was able to connect with 5g

I too have an unlocked Google P5 and I have no problems connecting to the Verizon network whether it's LTE or 5G. Where did you get that information?

I believe the Verizon Pixel 5 can still connect to 5G but not Verizon's milometer wave 5G. My understanding is that mmWave 5G is just a much faster type of 5G that covers smaller areas (think football stadiums or major urban centers).
I was in the same position of choosing the VZW or unlocked version and went with unlocked because I really don't care too much about getting super-mega fast speeds in very precise locations (even though I'm in downtown NYC)

I don't believe that to be correct regarding the mmWave. In Europe that was the case and therefore the phone was less expensive by $100. But every P5 sold in the US has mmWave antennas in them and can connect to the Verizon high speed 5G. If you are in NYC I'd love to hear the speeds you're getting. I believe the city has it almost all over.
The VZW and unlocked P5 are the same price outside of any promotions so it really doesn't matter which you have. I have the Google one and my wife got the Verizon one on some crazy P3 trade-in deal. We both get 5G although not the high speed one. Yet. ;-)

This is not correct. 5G and mmWave connectivity are the same for Pixel 5 whether you get the Verizon or the non-Verizon version -- they are the same hardware model. The only difference is the locked bootloader when you get it from Verizon.
Check the Pixel 5 tech specs Network section and note that there is only one hardware model, which supports mmWave. (However, this is not the case for Pixel 4a 5G which has two hardware models, only one of which supports mmWave.)

Oh nice, well this is good to hear. I just did a quick speed test from my apartment and I get ~100mb/s down and 32mb/s up
After being with Verizon since can remember (25+ years) switched to AT&T and I am finally seeing 5g on my Pixel 5 since owning it since release day.
Though this does nothing for bootloader unlocking

Question Does the regular unlocked version work with Verizon or do I have to buy 'unlocked' through Verizon?

Just wondering if the regular unlocked version supports mmwave or if I have to buy through Verizon. This gets on my nerves now.
Unlocked should in theory work with all carriers unless a carrier does certain odd things that couldn't be included on the "catch all" unlocked devices.
From what I can see it should work with Verizon phone and data just fine. Only the Verizon model it looks like comes with UWB (Ultra Wideband) though since that's Verizon's way of doing things if that interests you.
If you want that, will mean that you will have to have carrier injected junk though and buy the carrier version, get updates from the carrier, and have to have it unlocked by the carrier or sell it if you switch carriers. It will probably need to be unlocked by the carrier to put a custom rom on there also if you wanted to go that way. Its win and lose.
Coming from someone who just got the Verizon variant, it is indeed loaded with bloatware. It is also completely locked down from flashing roms or unlocking, verizon removed the oem unlock option entirely from their variant. So you can't even Odin flash to the unlocked firmware. Also the unlocked in the US is $349.99 right now versus $499 from Verizon directly. Although if you really want that UWB 5G then your only option is the Verizon model. Though imo not worth it. Go for the $349 one and enjoy it.

So I got the 349 one and it works with 5G was pleasantly surprised when I saw the 5G appear on my cell. All reps said phone compatible and the 5G Sim etc etc
Transferring device was painless.
I love the phone. I'm coming from using an Axon 7 never had a samsung phone before but like it. Got rid of a lot of samsung crop but customized it the way I like.
Thanks for your reply!
This is US market specific. For the A53 5G, any of the US carrier versions (with the exception of Tracfone) SIM unlocked will work on any of the big 3 carriers. Most of the versions (including Verizon owned Visible) are A536U, which is the version with Sub-6. A536V is the Verizon version with mmWave. I don't know what A536D from Tracfone is. Yes, you can get Sub-6 5G on Verizon.
But if you want to bootloader unlock, whether you are directly purchasing from Samsung or any SIM locked versions from carrier, it is not possible. See https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/psa-there-is-no-oem-unlock-on-us-galaxy-a53s.4443189/
I can confirm that the unlocked US version purchased from Samsung DOES work with Verizon. And like b1283822 said, does have/support Sub-6 5G, no UW.
