Stuck on "Phone is Starting" - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

My phone running on RRos 8.6.0 and I forgot the Pattern so from twrp I deleted the
"locksetting.db"
(My device didn't have any files named as the key for to deleted)
and from users I deleted
"setting_fingerprint.xml"
"setting_face.xml"
and booted to system
and now my it is stuck on "phone is starting"
Touch is working fine and I am able to access notification panel and turn on and off the tiles and go into settings.
I even added a new Pattern so that the deleted file gets created but then when I went to add fingerprint the sensor is not working as in its not reading.
also in apps(from settings) there is no option for "open". There's only clear cache and clear storage.
also I tried wiping dalvik art cache.
also device wont show on pc for transferring data while in twrp or even when phone is booted and I choose File transfer from notification.
What shall I do ?
Thankyou

Happened to me the same way, then I install stock rom and everything works fine.

Hi,
Same problems and same exact cause. Installing stock rom did not solve it.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!

The only solution was to format Data partition (including storage) and lose everything in the process, sadly.
If I remember correctly I was able to copy stuff from data partition to external USB via Recovery mode. But this was long ago, don't remember all the details... Just that I had to delete the data partition.

sdcard wont format

i have a odd issue.
Last night the MIUI 1.10.7 ROM froze up with trinity kernal. After the reboot trinity kernal on boot screen kept freezing.
I did a full whipe re-installed MIUI 1.10.7 flashed nertchy and i was good to go.. once booted up as apps where getting restored from the market random crashed started and now everything force closes.
that is not the issue.. the issue is that i want to do a full whipe again.. how ever i can not do anything with sdcard. i have tried every possible format method and coping files to sdcard...
all it ends up is restoring the files and the file that i have copied to sdcard is gone wth :S
i can boot the system back to what it was even when i re-flash it over again still same system there trying to download files and crashing..
i have reached the end i dont know what it possible could have changed :S
help?
You could try and lock the bootloader and unlock it again. That might reset everything and get it working for you again. I had a problem with the SD card and I wasn't able to mount it in CWM to access any files so I locked and then unlocked the bootloader and everything has been working great again
no go.
earlier i tried pushing some files to sdcard using adb successfully. this only lasted until the phone was rebooted out of recovery and files where back to w/e they where before.
i pushed an filed called update.zip tried flashing.. as if i never tried.
what it seems to me like is that the whole system is preventing updates/changes to the system :S :S
no matter what i try to do to reinstall or format it goes back into its old form with exact same files and exact same problems..
basically unable to flash and delete :S:S
have you went to storage in setting menu and hit erase then erase everything?
yes,
i have tried all of the following:
- factory reset from settings
- unmounted sdcard and formatting from settings
- delete files using file explorer (deleted them but comes back on reboot)
- uninstalling application (error occurs)
- moving application to sdcard from internal storage (not enough space error occurs)
- doing factory reset using cwm
- doing individual deletes using cwm
- creating backup using cwm (error occurs, cant get chm5)
- locking/unlocking bootloader
- mounting sdcard to pc and deleting files (same thing files delete until reboot then restore)
- adb remount (remounts nothing happens)
- adb push file, i can push a file and its only there until phone reboots
- installing pushed file update.zip (miui 2.1.x) installs but still goes back to corrupted miui 1.10.7..
i don't remember what else i have tried. every time file deletes it comes back after reboot. as well as the system.
i can flash a new recovery mod and it will stick but nothing in terms of deleting files or installing new system files.
new development.. i have tried installing update.zip from fastboot menu
and this is what happens:
sending 'system' ... Okay
writing 'system' ....failed (remote: write fail)
it almost seems as if i lost all write access.. is there a way to fix this?
(fix permissions does not fix this problem)
cheers,
as the Nexus s has no actual physical SD card but it purely refers to the storage partition, I am guessing you have some how corrupted the partitions settings and possibly damaged the memory as well, i have also seen from other threads where this issue is nearly identical that the PCB board being changed fixed the problem.
sorry to say either way your Nexus S may need to go under the knife,
hmm, this was the last day i played with it...
i'll have a look tomorrow for a bussins that will take it and try to fix it
cheers, for all those who tried to help.

[Help Needed] Data (Photos, Videos, Documents) Recovery after soft bricking?

Hello everyone,
I need your help. Sorry for the long post.
I have a OnePlus One. It was running on CM 13.0 (Android 6.0.1). I had TWRP and MultiROM installed.
I have had an issue where whenever I flash a zip file in TWRP, the phone will show an error after installing the zip: "Unable to mount storage". This appeared in red color on the screen right after showing the progress of the zip installation. The phone worked fine and all the flashed zips worked great as well. However, the error that appeared every single time when I flash a zip file bothered me. So I tried to fix it. (I know, if it's not broken don't fix it, but sadly I tired).
I followed this video to get rid of the error => (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7yDPszoQ5s). However, instead of getting rid of the error, I ended up with a huge problem. My phone couldn't recognize the data in the internal storage. It showed that the internal storage was empty. When I tired to reboot in TWRP, It said: "No OS installed are you sure you wish to reboot". I realized that the video I followed was for a different problem and that I ended up with the same issue the video was trying to fix! I tried every single option the video suggested to fix the problem and nothing helped.
I connected my phone to my laptop and downloaded the latest CyanogenMod zip for my phone and I flashed it. when I rebooted my phone I got a screen that asked for my password. I typed a random password (I discovered later that the phone will accept any password and say it's correct). I got the following error: "Decryption Unsuccessful... The password you entered is correct, but unfortunately your data is corrupt... To resume using your phone, you need to perform a factory reset. When you set up your phone after the reset, you'll have an opportunity to restore any data that was backed up to your google account...Then the only thing I can select is "reset phone." ". I pressed the reset button on the screen, the phone rebooted and showed the same error. Then I tired flashing PAC ROM and I got the same error again. Then I flashed OmniROM and the phone worked! It didn't show the error.
I have a Titanium backup for all my apps and I also have a nandroid backup for my previous ROM (in my memory stick using an OTG cable). However, I don't have any backups for my internal storage (photos, videos, documents... etc). I am guessing that these files are still in my internal storage. I didn't copy any new files to my phone because I think if I do, then the phone will keep replacing my old files (that I can't see) with the new ones.
My question is: Is there a way to get back these old photos and videos from the internal storage? Note that I didn't delete these files, but the phone can't read them. Also, I checked the nandroid backup that I have and the file system type of the previous ROM was EXT4. My current file system type is the same, EXT4.
Thank you for the help!

Factory Reset of 1+1 on Cosmic OS ROM - Internal Storage not Accessible

Hi All,
I got my OPO installed with Cosmic OS through a friend few months back, and my Phone started giving out troubles off late. I never had the experience of flashing phones. To start my device fresh, I did a complete factory reset without knowing the dos/donts of a custom ROM (Deleted all the data without backup), and it screwed up my device.
After Factory Reset:
Most of the apps don't work
Not able to access the internal storage. Could see the internal storage through Settings > Storage, but not able to access through files explorer application.
Device getting detected in my comp. while connecting through USB, but its empty. Not able to transfer data either.
Is there a method I can recover my storage and reinstall a ROM?
Thanks, Vivek

I think you might have unintentionally formatted your internal storage.Do this: Power off your device>Press Power off+vol down buttons simultaneously until you see 1+ logo, you'll be greeted with twrp splash screen after that>Select Install, and see if your files, that were in internal storage before, are still there or not(see attached screenshot). If they aren't there,I'm sorry, but there's no possibility of getting your files back now.
Now,to flash a new ROM,see rom threads and there should be instructions in first post of that thread on how to flash. After done, blame your frand for all of this.

Hey Mr. AK, thanks for sharing these steps. But unfortunately I dont see TWRP splash screen opening in Reboot. However, it opens in CyanogenMod Recovery mode. While doing my full factory reset of my device earlier, I remember deleting TWRP and GAPPS from the device(Unknowingly).
I now installed TWRP app through app store, the following are some things I saw after installation
When I select TWRP Flash from the home screen, it opens a the next screen with a pop up notification at the bottom saying 'Device Not Rooted'
When I select Reboot option through the options pane on the left, and then select REBOOT Recovery, it doesn't reboot.
I'm not able to downoad the TWRP image for my device as well.
Is there anything that I could do from this state?

[SOLVED] TWRP can't mount internal storage - the problem is coming back...

I wanted to update my rooted Android Nougat to Oreo and also go from SuperSU to Magisk. During that process I discovered that TWRP recovery couldn't mount my internal storage.
I quickly saw on a lot of sites that it's a well-known issue, and I solved it by converting from ext4 to ext2 and back again. Now my phone is running perfect. All apps are installed, data and settings are restored with Titanium and root with Magisk is working fine. But then I remembered about the issue with TWRP and booted into recovery - just to discover the problem is back again. I can't mount my internal storage. So I can't flash zip files, I can't do a backup etc.
When I search xda or the web in general, I can't figure out why the problem has occured again. Also I can't find out how to fix it without losing all my data. Can anybody answer these two questions? Why is this happening again and how do I permanently fix it? And can it be with all my data on my phone - because I'm not able to do a backup.

The problem occurs when you use a ROM which encrypts the software or the ROM your flashing has an encrypted kernal. The only way out is to flash a ROM which doesn't encrypt. It is a known problem with TWRP and we have to wait for the TWRP team to update TWRP to handle quota allocation.
It seems the problem is solved for me. I flashed the TWRP version from this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77296102&postcount=1243
First I tried from Odin but it didn't work. Then I installed the TWRP app from Google Play and flashed the other file, rebooted to recovery, and it seems to work. I can mount my internal storage, make a backup etc. So this is the solution for me.
I had also similar problem of internal storage 0mb and i was not be able to mount my data
so when i flash color recovery by nobody
It's gone because it's allready patch by him
I think it's issue of encrypt data so just flash this recovery from nobody post

same problem, have you found solution ? please help me
TWRP sometimes can't mount the storage, the storage is encrypted, but don't worry. You can still flash your files and rewrite system partion. But in order to show the Storage, you have to use a different version of TWRP. Why am I saying this is mentioned following:
I installed the latest version of twrp, It didn't ask for any password patter to decrypt my storage. So , different XDA posts made me understand that , formatting everything, factory reset will decrypt my storage. And trust me, I have done it several time, several times my brother but it didn't decrypt my storage. I couldn't backup my ROM and without backing up my ROM, I didn't take the risk of flashing new ROM. I waited. This twrp couldn't even mount my system partion. So I seeked knowledge from different person. It took a lot of effort.
Then I learned that, I should change this version of TWRP. I changed to an older version and it didn't decrypt my internal storage after formatting, but it mounted my system partion. Since, it couldn't decrypt my internal storage, I couldn't take backup of my rom and save it to internal storage. so I inserted a pendrive in my phone, and saved the backup of my rom there.
Permanent Solution
Flashing DM Verity Force Encryption Disabler will decrypt your storage instantly. But in my case, it aroused another problem, None of the security measures of my phone worked afterwards. FOD, pin, password, pattern none of them worked. I don't know the reason but I don't suggest it with my little knowledge. but almost every rom flasher use them, so I thing I have to study about them to know how they work.
second and best option: start trying older version of TWRP, the good one will be the one to ask the password the recovery in the beginning. It will decrypt your internal storage.
I was brief here, if anyone doesn't understand these things, let me know, I will explain them step by step because I know the pain of being NEWB.

[HELP] Device unsuable, need urgent help :(

Hello erveryone,
I have a very weird issue. I tried to install the last one oxygen today but when I gone to TWRP, it didn't ask me for the decryption password, so I couldn't find the download folder.
I looked on forums and found a solution, swipe file extension to ext2 then ext4. I worked, at least, I could mount the data partition but I couldn't find the download folder.
So I tried, to wipe data and reset data factory but now, the device is just booting, you know, I see the two small with balls rolling around the red one.. I waited for more than 20 minutes but nothing happen.
How I can fix this ? For now my device is not usuable !!
Thank you in advance

I have no idea what you did there
If it does not currently boot, try this:
in the TWRP->Reboot menu, switch to the other (currently not active) Slot and reboot
If this fails, go to the TWRP wipe menu, then use the button to format data, and try both slots again
This kills all your data, including the internal storage with your pictures etc, be aware
If that fails, get back in touchmaybe you accidentally formatted data to ext4

Next time, (if you don't use twrp super often) if twrp fails to decrypt, disable or erase the password to the phone in the settings. This way twrp will not ask you for a password to decrypt the internal storage. After your phone is all flashed up, put in a password for your phone via the settings.
