Android 11: How to change the default account for new contacts and new events? - General Questions and Answers

Hello all,
I am a happy user of Android 11 on a Pixel 3a. I decided to host my contacts and my calendar events on my own Nextcloud server using the davx5 (CalDAV/CardDAV provider for Android).
So:
- I deleted all my contacts on https://contacts.google.com/
- I deleted my events and calendars on https://calendar.google.com/calendar. Unfortunately, it is impossible to delete the "Reminders", "Tasks", and my name calendars (I imagine these are default mandatory calendars)
- I synced with my Android
- I disabled the sync of "Calendar", "Contacts" and "Tasks in Calendar" for my google account in the "Accounts" settings
Now, my Android is clean from any google contact or event. But when I create a new contact or a new event, they are added to my google account by default... So I need to be careful to chose the davx5 account each time.
So my question is simple; how can set my davx5 as the default account for my new contacts or events?
Thanks for any help!

Calendar question

I have a question about the calendar app in 2.1 on the hero. If I have 2 google accounts with a personal calendar on one and a business calendar on the other account, I know that I can link both accounts to the phone so that I can sync the calendars down from google to the phone. So when you go to the calendars option in the calendar setting it shows 3 calendars, google personal, google work, and my calendar. The question is this. Is there any to create an appointment and have it only sync with the personal google calendar? Would I have to go to the calendar settings and uncheck the other 2, make the appointment and sync it and the check the other 2 again?

Yes, just use the top drop down menu when you add an event. By default it will only publish to one calendar, you just need to tell it which one. Personal you would use that calander, work, you select that one.
Hope that helps
edit: You can also go to the web calendar app and link your work calendar so you can "see" it on your personal one. Then when you use that google account on the phone the work calendar will appear in the "view calendar" menu. I do this for my wife's calendar and I can post to hers as well, I just have to tell the phone which calendar to add the event to when I create it, all from one google account.

Froyo Calendar/Accounts Functionality

This is probably a dumb question, but is there any possibility to give Eclair the ability to sync multiple Google Apps calendars? It is limited to calendars from only 1 Google Apps account, but from what I've read, that limitation was addressed in Froyo.
Thanks in advance.
Try sharing your Google calendars with your master account and give it full permissions.
Yeah, I know that there are some workarounds (like that one), but the non-main account is my business account and the calendar isn't shareable with accounts outside the company.
Edit: Thank you, though, for the response!
The one "workaround" I have in place is that I setup an "Email" account with my google credentials using m.google.com as the server, then set it to never push mail, just sync my calendar, it's a google apps account and it works.
Sorry if I am being dense, can you elaborate/clarify?
If I add any other account to the Accounts area of Settings via the Google option, it will not provide me with the ability to sync a calendar (because my primary is a Google Apps account). If I add my account via the Corporate option, it allows creation of the account, but the calendar doesn't show up in the Calendar app.
I use the Corporate email setting, using "username"@********.***, you can just as easily use a gmail address [email protected] as an example, once the settings appear for the domain\username, wipe out what's automatically placed there and instead enter [email protected] or whatever your FULL gmail/google apps email address you wish to use, enter your password and then for the Exchange Server enter m.google.com also make sure Use SSL is enabled. Once completed I uncheck syncing of contacts as I already have the same account set up in the GMail app, I set it ti NEVER push mail, no notifications, and to sync calendar, the span amount shouldn't matter. I have had no problem getting it to show up in my list of calendars and to sync accordingly.
That's great, it works! Sadly it doesn't bring in all of your calendars, just the "primary" calendar for that account... but that is a huge improvement over the normal situation.
Thanks a lot for that tip, really appreciated.

[Resolved] Wrong account in google calender - problems with push

Since a few days I have problems with the google calender. Events I create on my phone won't push to another phone. Only an email is sent to the other phone with another account.
If I take a look in the google account settings of the other (my partner) all is ok. The account based on yyyyyy*googlemail.com. Also in the settings of her calender the correct email/account address is shown.
My account is xxxxxx*googlemail.com. Main settings, Google Mail, all is fine. But when I open the setup of my calender (standard calender) I see the owner of the calender is xxxxxx*GMAIL.com. So if I create an event, the event belongs to xxxxxx*gmail.com and I think this is the reason why the event won't push to my partners phone - because she is only allowed to see events from xxxxxx*GOOGLEMAIL.com.
I tried everything - deleted all events in my calender. Create a new calender, but if I do so, the owner is also xxxxxx*gmail.com.
What can I do? I can't delete the calender or set it back to default
I am right, that this could be the reason?
I hope someone here can help me - please and thanks so long

So ... great I tried a few things again. I deleted all my events in my own calender again. After that I deleted the calender cache on my android phone.
When I now create a new event over the google webcalender, the event isn't pushed to my phone. Also all other events out of my webcalender won't sync to my phone.
A manuell sync on my phone at least creates the events on the phone.
I thought about just create a new google account at all, but I can't switch the apps I bought to another account.
/edit
Solved. Deleted account and created a new one

[Q] Google calendar sync problems

Hi,
I use 2 Google calendars - first is related to my gmail account and second - to my another email address.
Last time I found the email address shown under both account is the same - it's my gmail address - and I don't see any new items in my "email account calendar".
I removed "email account calendar" subscription from my gmail account and added it again. Now the calendar list is Ok. (proper email addresses shown) but I don't see any items in my "email account calendar".
When I change something in my "email account calendar" (for example: edit existing item) - it appears on my Desire S.
I tried to
- remove/add calendar subscription
- remove/add calendar sync on my Desire S
- restart device
...but no luck
I'm sure the problem is related to my Desire S because:
- there are no issues on google calendar on the Web
- there are no issues on Thunderbird with Lightning calendar
I use the stock ROM with Android 2.3.5.
Any ideas/hints?
set syn in user&account option.
It's already set - as I wrote: when I change something in my "email account calendar" (for example: edit existing item) - it appears on my Desire S properly but all old events are not synchronized (until I change something in them).

[Q] Why New Contacts App Has Syncing Issues?

Some of my newer contacts are not synching with either my Google Contacts or my Outlook.com contacts. I'm on a Nexus 5 running Android 5.1.
I use Outlok.com for my primary repository for contacts and calendars, however I use GSyncit add-on for MS Outlook (desktop) to sync my desktop Outlook contacts and calendars to Google. This way I can use Outlook.com or Google Calendar / GMail to access/share my calendar and access contacts depending on the situation.
Everything is working fine on the desktop end so that is irrelevant to this problem (so probably shouldn't even have wrote the above paragraph - but just in case.)
I see there is a new Google Contacts app on the phone and on the web. I noticed this when I clicked on the People app and it said the app was missing. When I go to the web version of Google Contacts via my Google account, there are no contacts there! All my contacts are still in Gmail though of course.
I see that when I attempt to edit an older contact on the phone, it first prompts me with which Google account I want to sync with. I don't need to sync my phone contacts directly with Google, I just want to sync with Outlook.com -> Outlook -> Google (via GSyncit) but I suppose it wouldn't cause a problem if I just had the phone sync to both accounts (probably will then need to disable GSyncit contact sync between Outlook desktop and Google).
What is weird is that it is like Google made the mistake of launching this new contacts app, but there's no notice or migration instructions on the changes with the new app. I just happend to discover something was "unhooked" by trying to edit a contact! I just discovered the new Contacts app on the web by Googling, Google Contacts. I'm technically saavy and somewhat of an Android Wonk, and am surprised this is all a surprise!
Do I have to go try to edit every single contact on the mobile Contacts app now to select which Google account it syncs with? I HOPE NOT!
At the risk of appearing dumb I'm leaving my original post for background. It appears this is (not surprisingly) all a Microsoft issue. When I went into the Outlook.com app on my phone, when you click on the Contacts and Calendars Sync setting, nothing happens! Come to find out this app is no longer on the play store. It appears to have been replaced earlier this year by the Microsoft Outlook Preview. Installed that app, and it doesn't and an account type to the phone! So it appears, unlike the Outlook.com app, it won't sync calendars and contacts with the native Android calendar and contacts app. It's as if Microsoft is trying to make you use their new app instead of the stock Android apps that just sync with the Outlook.com account? Please say this isn't so!

Title: How To Sync Contacts & Calendars with Native Android Phone Apps?
Reply
Hi,
Unfortunately , by design, it is not yet possible to sync your Android phone contacts to your Outlook.com account.
Note: At the moment, you can only sync Outlook.com contacts to your android phone.
Please provide your suggestions/opinion as a feedback to the development team. To do this, click on the gear icon on the top right corner of Outlook.com homepage and select 'feedback' from the dropdown menu.
Hope this information is helpful.

However, this isn't that big of a deal as I come to find out, even though there is no longer an Outlook.com account type on the phone any more, you can use the Exchange account type and use server address: s.outlook.com and then you can sync everything. Why the MS Tech didn't point this out it baffling.
(big middle finger for you Microsoft)
