My Note 20 ultra has had 2 updates already this month, but today it got something called a system configuration update - small and fast! Don't think I've noticed them come through before?
What's the story?

Probably a system configuration update.
"Probably a system configuration update. "
Helpful, thanks
Anybody got any actual information about it? Is it a new thing? a regular thing? Why not just fire it out with normal updates?
Just curious thanks.

Its carrier crap not actual android stuff. Never really liked into it. But I've seen it before
I could be wrong but that looks like a Samsung update and not a carrier or Android update. I do believe I have seen those before.
Thanks for the replies. I did wonder if I'd had one before but wasn't sure. If it is from Samsung, I wonder why they don't just stick it in with other updates.
These are updates pushed from Samsung and contain carrier app and carrier specific config updates.
These are mainly used for small, carrier specific updates.
You can use an activity launcher to view some of the info. Look for Configuration Manager

Looks like more app updates and some "security updates"

Same. No place to turn off updates. It asks you, you say no. Then at some point it just does it anyway. I would be irked if that happened in the middle of work and suddenly you're watching an optimizing apps countdown.
I checked yesterday, said i was up to date on 10e, which this is now 10g. So now i have to wait the 24hrs until i can 'check again'. Stupid rules..

Sometimes you can go under settings go to ALL Apps and find the correct app that updates and u can clear the cache and it clears the timer. Just not sure which app it is.
I said no, turned off wifi and came back to my phone saying the update was complete... thanks LG/ATT/Google for allowing this
Do you have to be on USA to get the update? I have the H810, I'm not on USA and I haven't gotten any update *yet*.
DON'T OTA
going to post this once... please spread the word into the other G4 subforums and any related posts anywhere.
I'm not sure if this is cause for alarm... but just putting the warning out there... based on viewing the latest USCC and T-Mobile files... these recent OTAs for USA carriers seem to be implementing "antirollback" which means you can never "go back" to a lesser version. To simplify things... fresh out of the box all of your phones were at "0" and now after the OTA they're at "1". Both the TMO and USCC KDZ file's are based on the OTA which is a "1" so there's no concern of flashing an older KDZ by mistake... at least for now. Not sure what will happen with future updates.
Can only confirm this on the TMO H811 and USCC US991... Still waiting on Sprint users to grab the OTA URL or zip name for me so I can inspect that... but I suspect all of the recent OTAs from AT&T, Sprint and Verizon also used the "1" update. The European/Asian/Etc variants still seem to be using the "0" version.. even after the recent updates. [Not every OTA will bump up the "version"]
I can't say what this means as a whole just yet... Maybe nothing at all. But perhaps for those who wish to stay at that fresh "0" for now... try your best to avoid the OTA update. I know the intl phones can disable updates but this option has been removed in USA variants. There are talks of an app that allows you to disable apks on your phone... I haven't used it myself but perhaps for those who want to maybe block the OTA app (LGDMSClient.apk)... worth checking out. This is said app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/andr...bloat-t2998294
apks to attempt to disable:
/system/priv-app/LGDMSClient/LGDMSClient.apk (not in all phones)
/system/priv-apps/LGUpdateCenter/LGUpdateCenter.apk

Meanwhile my wife's phone, and co workers phones all getting the update to 10G.
Whatever, guess i'm not cool enough. :cyclops:
UPDATE: Even did factory reset, still no 10g for me.

This is starting to be the new norm. Samsung's for example. I've given up on any boot loader unlocks on any device or carrier going forward.
This morning I got a notification for the update but before I could switch to WiFi and start the download the notification went away. Now when I try to go to manually check for the OTA it says "Your software is up to date you must now wait A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF HOURS and 3 minutes before you can check again because you are a update seeking android-update-crackhead who pushed the button to many times.(7996 hours I believe"
I have tried the setting the clock ahead trick but it hasnt worked for some time. I have tried clearing several different app-data/cache files in settings, searched XDA & Google, and tried multiple reboots/restarts without being able to get the OTA notification again. I have tried looking for the update on LG Bridge as well. If anyone here has any suggestions of what I might try I would be truly grateful for them. I don't want to root the device and I have already slapped myself for being a over active update checker. THANKS!!
Hi just had a 5.5mb update from Samsung saying enhanced features, anyone know what they are? Cheers

Ditto here. I got it this morning. Don't know what it does though.
I got it when I got home from work. It was urgent and installed super quickly.

same here I tried to see what it was about but nothing came to be..
I got this but it didn't say it had installed I dismissed the message thinking I could check manually later but nothing outstanding so assuming it installed now lol

Hi,
I had the same thing yesterday: I received this "Urgent Security Update" via a notification that had the icon of the Samsung Apps application. Unfortunately, I dismissed the notification and I didn't do this update. But since that, I am not able to get this notification again in order to be able to do this update... I tried to launch Samsung Apps, I also tried in the settings of the S6 to search for either new ROM version or security policy updates, but no update though that.
So I wonder how we can get back the notification of this security update?
I got it also. It's the option for paid themes in the Samsung store!
Nah curious I had that option before this update
I did. it happened silently. Anyone know what changed?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah, I got one on my S8+ on AT&T. I have no idea what it did though, lawl. Like, aren't any obvious changes.
Build says ...AQD9. also At&t s8 plus. What i do notice is that bixby hardly responds to a button push. Weird.

Oh, the build #? What I meant by changes, I meant something bigger, like an interface change or fixing glitches. That's why I'm saying that I haven't noticed any changes. I know a version # will update somewhere, but what did the update actually do? That's what I don't know. I haven't tried to reconfigure the Bixby button, as I don't care to do so, so no idea if you can actually still remap it. I've heard no, but I have no firsthand experience on that.
S8+ here. I didn't have the prior version information saved but grabbed these after yesterday's ATT update. The 2nd screenshot is missing the battery capacity at the bottom (didn't fit in the grab) but that's static info anyway.
I'm guessing this is the update to inhibit Bixby button remapping but haven't tested.
https://www.google.com/amp/www.droi...-mobile-verizon-galaxy-s8-day-one-update/amp/
Still havent done it myself. Device is working so great im afraid new update will f something up.
Yes. Am with Rogers network and got the ...QD9 update pushed down onto the phone. As far as Bixby is concerned I've read somewhere that it wasn't fully operational at release but will be very shortly (a few days) and we can all expect an update coming for that.
Got an update yesterday...about 660MB in size.
Recently ordered a “new” (ha, ha) Note Edge (AT&T unlocked, SM-N915A) as a gift. I'm planning on letting it automatically seach for an update over the AT&T servers through Net10.
So...Is this worth doing? Or will the update be buggy and I should just leave it running KitKat?
BTW, the friend is my wife so I would appreciate any advice to keep me from screwing this thing up.
Or, after looking closer at this forum, should I just flash the 5.1 from sammobile and be done with it?

Samsung's update should be higher than 5.1.
With that said, I would leave it on KitKat.
The phone's hardware was designed to use it and anything above that involves a lot of bloatware, in my experience.

This being the case, where could I find the Kitkat firmware download? I know there is a thread filled with the firmwares but what is the file name for it?

I believe in your original post you said the phone was already running KitKat.
(Revised 3/2/21)
If by now, you haven't received this firmware update from your wireless provider, something is askew and you probably should start looking that. Other than that, if you're not already running on it, you've probably made that choice!
As with all software updates, it's never a bad time to either perform a new backup before commencing with the OTA download, or at least check on what date your showing for the last one (usually, you'll find your handset performs these daily, once every 24 hours). As for me personally, that's my cue to run my backup to my microsd card via the Smartswitch app!
The last friendly reminder I wanted to share witb some of our newcomers that have recently graced us with their presence, is to make certain you're at (or pretty damn close) to 75% charged on your new flagship! The way these new "beasts" we own "bleed-out" our batteries, it's not a bad idea to "up the ante" with the old school rule of having your battery at 50% or more before downloading the update! I saw this same topic mentioned on one of the other forums/channels the other day and thought it was some good advice? Eh, to each his/her own...whatever works for you!

I read Samsung already started rolling out out this update at the beginning of the week(2/15)
to include this handset. I'm TMB and that's a
no-go (so far) and Sprint hasn't rolled it out either.
Anyone with new Intel on this matter, please share as a small monetary contribution will be made available(jk)!

yep, saw that, but you're an Unlocked, Carrier Branded SM-N986U, not SM-N986U1. That's where my confusion came about until I figured it out looking at FOTA!
I know it's no cause for alarm (with samsung, it happens more often than not) but I didn't see a new build # assigned yet for XAA(as if they hadn't started one, but much more likely they just failed to update their system)!
However, for those of you SM-N986U1 users (like myself) seeing this dialog, we could be in for a little longer wait, meaning we may not have Our Update by this coming Monday (3/1), as a few of the websites I saw earlier were speculating!
(We will know more soon, I'm certain)!

**ONE UI 3.1 SOFTWARE UPDATE IS HERE!**
I'm on the unlocked SM-N986U1 connected to Verizon and still no update for me. I thought having an unlocked phone straight from Samsung would put me in line to get the updates first, but I guess not. I was one of the last N20U users to get 3.0, and now the same seems to be the case for 3.1. I saw articles talking about it being pushed out the Note 10's already.

I have bought two notes from Samsung directly over the years because I was under the impression if I bought the phones straight from Sammy I would get more features and faster updates. But as time goes on I see now that the unlocked phones are second class to Sammy. It seem to me like Sammy can't help but stroke off the carriers and bend to what they want.

I'm glad to see Samsung always improving their camera function as that is one of their claim-to-fames, one that snagged-me as I've said many times! However, I was sorta expecting to see something thrown in the mix about changes implemented to extend battery life...wasn't just me, right?
Got it today. U1 XAA running on visible.
