Fully expand notification shade with one swipe (Android 10) - General Questions and Answers

Is there any way to fully expand notification shade with one swipe on Android 10 (and skip the small quick setting view)? I have root so I don't mind root-only solutions.
EDIT:
With one finger, I'm aware of two finger swipe, but I can't reach the top with two fingers when using the phone with one hand.

Swipe with two fingers once, it's a feature included in aosp AFAIK, so I don't think you'll have issues with it.

[Q] - Perminately hide soft buttons, replace with swipe from bottom

Hi all,
I love my Nexus 5, but coming from the GS3, I'm not sure I like the loss of screen realestate due to the soft buttons. I've tried immersive mode with Cataclysm rom, however I am a speed freak, and the added effort with swiping up the bars combined with the ugly re-positioning of the screen makes me dislike that option.
I'm looking for a way to permanently hide the nav buttons, and after that is accomplished I'm looking for a good (preferably customization) app that will act as a replacement.
1) Hiding the Nav Buttons - I've tried editing my bool.prop to add the line "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" but it must be conflicting with my Rom (Cataclysm Nov 26) or my Kernel (Franco.14) because every time I reboot and unlock my screen I'm greeted with the lovely message "unfortunately the process com.android.systemui has stopped" and it forces me back to my silkscreen. I'd prefer not to use an app to solve the problem, as I'd much rather change system files through text editing or flashing than be required to download another app.
2) Simulating the buttons with gestures - I've tried a few apps so far, but I haven't been able to find one that solves my problem exactly the way I want. I may be forced to edit an app to get exactly what I want. The closest I've gotten so far is Swipe Home Button, however it still doesn't accomplish everything I want. What I'm looking for is the following:
Swipe up from bottom middle to go home (accomplished with Swipe Hope Button)
Swipe from bottom left to go back
Swipe from bottom right to launch recent apps
If anyone knows of any techniques to accomplish this I'd love to hear them!
Extra: I'd also like to hide the status bar, revealing it with some gesture, however that is farther down on my list as it is far less intrusive to my experience.
Use a custom ROM like Purity. They have this built in.

Try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontroldemo&hl=en
You can do the three gestures you want and also has the ability to hide/recall status bar with another gesture.
Thanks guys,
I use GMD on my tablet, however I wasn't sure I wanted to spend $5.00 to try it out. I've also realized (slightly embarrassing) that I can just use cataclysm to change the navbar height to 0%... so that solves problem 1.
EDIT: Turns out GMD is exactly what I need. Didn't realize it had this level of customization when I originally tried it. Thanks! However if anyone knows of a free solution that would be great too.
Cataclysm has a hide navbar button you can put in the quick toggle to disable the navbar completely. no need edit the build prop or download any additional software. Thiis is also better than setting the navbar size set to 0 as you can quickly toggle it on and off if needed.

Just try the play store app named "full!screen"
Um why hasn't anyone mentioned LMT, the ISAS do EXACTLY what the OP wants.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
This is what I've been wanting to do as well.
As for hiding the navbar, I still don't know the most reliable or simplest method to do this.

Swipe from the bottom notification window

Has there ever been a tweak or mod where you can have your notification window come from the bottom instead of top? Seems it would be a great feature with the additional screen size.

Nova launcher can do that with gestures. Or there's a setting in the phone to swipe down on the fingerprint sensor to pull the notification panel down or back up.
What I was meaning is kinda like the control center on the iphone when you swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Just totally move the notification screen to the bottom of the screen once you swipe up.
The furthest you're going to reach your finger is to swipe down from the top for the notification window so why not put it at the bottom being that it's something being used a lot through out the day.
I will say samsung has done a lot for reachability just that one little thing I think would make a huge deal.

Sorry, looks like that feature hasn't been around since ICS.
I'm curious if it's even possible with a custom rom. I always questioned this too. When I had the iPhone 4, I hated switching to iOS 6, but the swipe up from the bottom to access your quick settings was a stroke of genius and got me to actually enjoy it even more after jailbreaking it because you could tweak the odd cosmetics.
iPhone was able to do it through a software update. Why can't Android? What's the limitation and what makes it so limited that no one has been able to accomplish this? Genuine question and interest.
Galaxy S8+ is a phenomenal phone that I think will take quite a bit to outdo it, but the biggest problem with having massive screens is reaching those quick settings. Even with the edge bar, it's still not the same. And the swipe gesture with the fingerprint scanner is neat but that doesn't get you the quick settings a person needs with one hand as well as accessing the notifications.
It would very nice to have that reversed. I have big hands and it's still a pain to always have to use the phone with two hands for those quick things people like to do. Like adjusting brightness, muting, flashlight, Bluetooth etc.
Maybe one day they'll realize people still hold their phones with one hand every now and again and try to tailor that there notification panel accordingly :silly:

It is possible!
It can be done even with an app.
but it can be confusing because of Navigation Buttons at the bottom.
and in this way using this on custom rom can be better >> set nav bars little bit higher and then notification bar below that.......
I think after this idea you will see lots of mods and apps
If I decide to do it I will inform you
I always wanted that swipe down for quick access to controls in ios on Android. Why haven't they implemented that yet? Took them many years to have a "night mode" on Android.

Have never really understood the ergonomics of it. Bottom Status Bar should at least be an Xposed Module!

Feature Requests

Hopefully Essential takes some user feedback as far as features we would like to see going forward. If you post please try to keep it to reasonable features that mostly stock devices have or non os software tweaks.
The two big ones for me are
1. Night mode
2. Fingerprint shortcuts, primarily for notifications

Damn just checked and realized no night mode since got the phone just today.
+1 on night mode, that thing is must have at system level. Don't want to go back to using apps like twilight etc
My needs are simple. Would like the option to rearrange navigation buttons, battery percentage, and finger print gestures.

Has anyone tried enabling night mode by enabling the UI tuner?. night mode is built into nougat but on some phones still has to be turned on. I don't have the phone yet to do it. Pull down the notification shade twice and then long press the settings cog icon. A wrench will show up next to the icon indicating that UI tuner has been enabled. Next install "night mode enabler" from the play store.
Unlocked bootloader, TWRP and root. Hopefully. ? - Not sure any devs are on board with this device.
I haven't received the phone yet, but does it support gestures while the screen is off? Such as double tap to wake, swipe up to unlock, etc.
Night mode is nice. I also like to separate ring volume from notification volume. I know that's not native to Android, but a simple mod makes all the difference for me.

Night mode for sure. Second would be system level to force apps to use the full screen, like what Samsung has for the s8+

Yep.
I'm waiting for TWRP.
For root, I plan to use Magisk to root and hide BL status. Since it's mostly ASOP, it should work like the Nexus 6P I have.
First off +1 to both, I really don't want to use the app that allows finger gestures, was a little sad to see it not available in stock Android since I got used to using it on the Pixel XL.

Just tried it and it isn't there sadly. Just like the fingerprint gestures I don't want to have to add it through an app.
On the flip side I got exactly what I deserved/wanted. Nothing but pure Android (minus the Essential Cam app and the Essential option in the settings) so that was good but in a way I want to kick myself because I forgot that these two features were add ons to the skin for the Pixel devices. Whatever the case maybe, I'll get over it lol.

Hopefully those features, switching navigation buttons and more will come to the table once we get the bootloader unlocked and the possibility of custom ROM's/mods. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Use this to change nav bar.
For battery percentage just enable the UI tuner
1. Changing audio track with volume buttons when screen is off.
2. Resizing nav bar height
3. Double tap to wake
I second the fingerprint gestures and double tap to wake wholeheartedly.
Would also love to see these:
1. Ability to use Light Flow or another LED manager to customize notification LEDs. This is my favorite thing about Android phones and Essential's stock LED patterns aren't cutting it for me. Somehow they managed to make it impossible for the LED to flash more than once every 5 seconds.
2. Ability to use 360 camera attachment as a fisheye lens. Currently the camera stitches two 210 images together to form a 360 photo. I want to be able to choose just one lens to capture an image.

The battery percentage option is in the system ui tuner I believe. Pull down the notification shade and long press on the settings icon then go into settings and look for it.
ability to change navbar height. it's too big uses unnecessary screen estate
There are several Improvements I would like to see in the phones software. More so just general optimization. However I think that most of these answers of what features are coming will be answered in Thursday's Q&A session with Andy Rubin on Reddit. So I guess we should wait until then to see where Essential and the ph1 is headed.

Zenfone 6 fingerprint swipe down to relive notification bar

All the smart folks on this forum, just found that you can get the fingerprint to swipe down to show the notification bar one and then swipe down to get it fully. And swipe up to pull it up! So I was wondering if this is just possible through vertical motion or can be modded to to side swipe if so maybe be used as a touchpad to scroll through pages and stuff. If anyone know much about it let us know. Thanks

Question Can you move the settings gear in the notification drawer

Hello. I have come from the Samsung One UI to the new Pixel 7 Pro, on the Samsung One UI the settings gear used to be one of the first you saw when you drew down the notification bar, is it possible to have the same on the Pixel 7 pro, cause as now I have to pull down twice to see it and that is pretty annoying.
Following
not that my suggestion is a solution or anything, as I wish it was easier to get to the Settings as well...
but in case it wasn't known, if you pull the notification down with 2 fingers, it brings it all the way down, so you don't have to pull down twice....
clearly very difficult to do this one-handed, so obviously not really a solution...but more of a workaround until OP or someone finds a satisfactory solution...
just wanted to mention this little bit for general knowledge spreading...
Can't move it, but other than the above mentioned workaround, you can do other things like put a Settings icon on your home screen, or using a custom launcher like Nova, designate a gesture to open Settings such as two finger rotation clockwise.
Matter of fact, I might designate that right now.

At first I didn't like it either but think of it this way... you have one hand available, you swipe down twice with your thumb, and with one hand you can now reach the settings button. If it was at the top you probably would not be able to reach it with one hand unless you have Pro basketball size hands with llllooooooonnnnnnnggggggggg fingers!
I 'walk" the shade down using my index and middle fingers.
Because I use Nova, the default gesture to open app drawer is two-finger swipe down, and I use that often, so my personal workaround is to 'walk' the shade down with 2 separate fingers in 2 separate swipes, but it's quick. Otherwise, two-finger pull down from the top edge does indeed pull the shade all the way down.
I like Rode Warrior's idea of a two-finger clockwise gesture in Nova though, I'll give that a spin (pun intended?)

pull down from the top, right bottom corner is the settings icon.
or put your home screen on 5 rows and put it in there.
