I haven't used MX PLAYER PRO for a while due to a faulty media player. I recently bought Nvidia Shield TV Pro and started using MX PLAYER PRO again. Then, I realized that the player doesn't display subtitles for my videos at all. It used to be able to recognize the external .srt files, but not anymore.
Anyone knows why? Is there anything I can do to get it to work like before again?
Thanks much!
Works normally here. No issues

Are you using an earlier version of MX PLAYER PRO then?
Thanks.

By default, MX Player will only list the subtitles having the identical file name. Please make sure that the subtitle filename is the same as the video, and it should work for you.

I have been using MX Player Pro for years and I do know that the subtitle files have got to have the same filename as the video files. It worked before I switched over to Android TV (Nvidia). It shows that it picked up the subtitle file (I checked it via the top right corner subtitle icon), but it just won't show on screen. I really don't know what else can be wrong.
Imbedded subtitles are fine. But as long as it's a separate file, MX Player won't show.

I now suspect this may be the cause -
I am using Nova Player to use MX Player as the external player. The video files Nova accesses are from my NAS. MX Player doesn't have the capability to connect to my NAS. While MX Player is playing the video files that are fed by Nova (which has access to my NAS), MX Player doesn't have direct access to the .srt files that are located in my NAS together with the video files.
Does it make sense?
Thanks.

Thanks for sharing the details. We will share this with our relevant team for further investigation. Meanwhile, please try MX Player's local network option if your NAS server supports SMB v2.0, and you shouldn't face any issues.

I'm sorry but I can't find the Local Network Option in MX PLAYER PRO. Does it have to be the beta version that everyone is talking about? I'm also not sure if there is a difference in the versions because I am using Android TV.
I am new to Android, and I was told there are different versions for Android Mobile and Android TV for some apps.
Thanks.

Hi.
I still haven't decided to buy this tablet yet. So I was wondering if the built in player displays subtitles embedded in mkvs, ass or similar files? I normally use moboplayer in order to play my soft-subbed videos on my cellphone since only a few players support this feature.
If this is not supported, is there another video player that supports this but also allows it be floating like the video player?
Thanks!

I believe that the default video player only accepts SRT subtitle file. MKV playback starts off a little bit slow but picks right up at normal speed after a few seconds.
In most of cases, it support srt. I had no problem on most movies, included mkv.
Try a app call BS player, its in the play store, I love it and it will search for the subtitles any movies you are watching..for you.

Use DICE player . It supports all subtitles and floating screen , and if subtitles are not synced properly but you don't have choice , this player can slow down subtitles or accelerate them during play .
I have some m2ts video format and player by default does not read them.
I tried to convert them but the result is bad.
What is a good player for our TAB?
With what program and what format I could convert them to make the most with the TF700?
thanks

No need to convert. Try BS Player or MX Player.
With MXplayer the video you can see in slow motion as BS player crashes while updating the preview
i found that BS Player works best for me with better HW and SW acceleration
and bette suport for large .mkv files over local network
were as MX Player would lag and have trouble playing DTS and Dolby 5.1 sound
Which version of BSplayer uses for the TF700?

You may need to download some other files from within bs player for the processor to have it play properly. Can't remember for sure it's been a while since I used that player.

As per the Google Play info, only when it tells you to:
BS player:
This is BSPlayer lite CPU support package for <several listed on Google Play> CPU smartphones - not the main app.
You only need this if BSPlayer warns you to install it, also you must have BSPlayer lite installed first.
Main application can be found here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bsplayer.bspandroid.free

MX PLayer:
** IMPORTANT NOTICE: This is a software component for MX Player, you should install MX Player first. MX Player will test your device and show you the best matching codec automatically if it is necessary. You do not need to install codecs unless MX Player asks.

i'm having problems with a MP4 file, can you guys check whether it plays for you? regardless of the player i've tried (dice, mx, bsplayer), i only get a black picture with sound:
http://red.cachefly.net/TimeScapes4K2560p.mp4
(from http://timescapes.org/trailers/[email protected] - the "lower" resolution files work but have micro stutters which i didn't have in ICS either..)
it worked fine with .30 ICS firmware and now it doesn't show a picture anymore in jellybean..

hm ok, then it seems that JB is missing some codecs that were available in ICS
Hi,
I'm having a pretty strange problem with MX Player Pro and .mkv-files (AVC/H264) with subtitles. I tried streaming them over DLNA recently which does work fine on my Samsung TV but not on my Android device (Sony Xperia Z3 Compact) or to be precise it does work but only without HW-decoding (or HW+ even). But when I remove the subtitle file from the folder and then stream the file, HW+-decoding works like a charm. It also works even WITH subtitles and HW-decoding when playing the file locally. So I just don't see what the problem is here. Not even sure this problem is related to MX Player at all but i figured i gotta start asking somewhere so here i am. Btw I'm using Serviio (latest version) to stream from my Windows computer.

Similar problem here. I have the movie Go encoded using Handbrake to mp4 without subtitles (go.mp4) and also encoded mkv with subtitles (go.mkv), served from my Win 8 machine over the local network. MX Player on my android phone can play the mp4 encoding fine as a network stream, but not the .mkv file (MX Player simply reports "Can't play this link").
MX Player Pro V1.9.0 Cannot load display ASS subtitles, request to repair!
Many MKV video subtitles are in ASS format, but the latest version of MX Player Pro doesn't show ASS subtitles .
Only MX Player Pro version V1.9.0 cannot .
My mobile phone is samsung s6 edge. Android 6.0.
After many tests, found that other players and the old version of MX Player Pro can be perfectly normal display ASS subtitles.
So ask the developer to fix this serious problem, or else user can only stay in the old version .

Very good .the test build is OK.
When to release the repair of Pro version?
I was wrong. It's SSA subtitles, not ASS subtitles .

Hi, I'm already try the beta ver. on my xiaomi note 4x. In my case have a little bit difference.
When I streaming the mkv movie to my phone from Synology DS213J. Even LAN or WAN still can not show the ASS/SRT subtitles.
- Both files are same file name.
- mx player and DSM and video station are new ver.
- Already setup the port forwarding in router for DS video.
- UTF-8 subtitles file format
- no subtitle button on mxplayer screen, when I select the subtitles in setting panel try to get it from online, the "Search" was disable. but I save the mkv file in my phone, the "Search" is fine & work.
everything is work in last few month. I don't know which part have a problem.
Thanks for everyone again! :good:

Hi, From where you are playing?
MX Player do not directly support browsing of files on a network stream. So, videos will be never listed on MX Player screen.
Can you colect a bug report immediately after playing the video?

Hi, I try it at home and my office, and through the Synology apps DS video to select the movie to play.
In apps to submit the report, right?
I use LG v40 thinQ and this issue of waiting for font cache is already getting on my nerves
Just started using MX Player and like it very much.
I have movies recorded from TV and they have subtitles included in the file.
For most movies MX Player displays all the dialogue as subtitles very well.
I have some that when played with MX PLayer not all the lines of dialogue get displayed on screen.
I had this same problem with these movies when I first started using Potplayer on my windows PC.
Potplayer was able to fix this problem in one day and now all these movies display the subtitles perfectly using Potplayer.
I want to use MX Player on my android devices so would love to have the technical people try to modify the software to fix this problem.
I can supply a dropbox link to a very small portion of one of these movies where the problem occurs .
But not sure if that is OK to place here ?
If it is OK please let me know and I will include the link.
Please help.
