Always on display - Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC Questions & Answers

Hi,
I see no option for the always on display which I thought was integral to miui 12. As such I see no notification icons or clock when the phone is idle. Can someone confirm if this is normal and if so how I can enable some sort of notification function so I can see what notification belongs to what without having to wake the phone? Many thanks

This phone screen is not AMOLED hence there is no always-on display. Lock screen shows notifications though.

Thanks. indeed; yes I read that.
Coming from the Mi9SE I'm used to seeing what notification is what, without having to pick up the phone. Incidentally my old Motorola had an IPS panel and that still managed to show me icons in daydream mode all be it in black and white. If all POCO X3 users get is a black screen, then I guess that is that, but it's a feature I really miss. Any recommendations with regards to app/workaround ?

I am missing motorola active display too
And android stock... I can't appreciate miui

No. display is not amoled.

No workaround for this. In order to light up a small part of the display needed for the AOD, the complete backlight has to turn on, which significantly drains the battery (as if the whole screen was on).
So the solution is to buy an AMOLED screened phone.

I did notice however that near the camera, in some apps it has a notch or a black bar that really seems to have the screen off

Active/Ambient Display on S6?

Is there a way to make active/ambient display on S6 just like in the Moto X series which display a single clock and notifications every time a notification comes or you wave your hands close to it or take it out of the pocket?
As S6 habe that screen from the Clear View case, probably it should be easy to show the same screen in the active/ambient display ocasions.
The S6 has the option of waving your hands when it is laying flat to view your notifications.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
AcDisplay is an app that mimics ambient display. Try that out.
Yeah, I know that the S6 has the option to wave your hands to show the screen, but it shows the full screen colored and everything, which would be bad battery-wise. Probably would be nice to just light up some pixels like the ambient display on Moto X as the S6 also have an AMOLED display.
I also know about AC Display, but it seems that adding it just adds another lockscreen in front of the default one and if you use it as your default lockscreen, it can't work with the fingerprint reader to unlock, is that correct?
It just doesn't seem too difficult to pop the same screen as the Clear View Case on waving the hands in front of the phone or when getting notifications. If it isn't possible to do it with the built-in software, they are missing a great opportunity here.

Notification popup with preview on AOD.?

Hi all I've just made the switch again from iOS to Android last Android being a note 3.
Really loving the s8+ such a nice device. One thing I do miss from iOS is whenever I get any notification the screen turns on with the notification and a small preview.
At the minute I keep missing emails as all I get is a icon with no preview on the always on display.
Is there anyway of having all notifications popup and either turn the screen on with the notification (Samsung bubble popup) or have a preview on the AOD
Thanks

Yes there is.... Just turn off AOD and install for free from playstore "glimpse notification".It just do exactly what you want. I had it on s7 edge, Note 7 and now on S8+ and is working perfectly with more less battery consumption from AOD. You will not see any deference in you battery consumptiont. Just activate it, give him all permissions deactivate app notification (you only need notification from all other apps) and from settings choose as white list which apps you want to turn screen on (to show notifications) and click to led notification light to work together, run the test and you are done.
It's working perfect and all the times
Thanks I'll check it out
Just having a play with this and it works well. I do like the always on display though. Will this work with that still enabled?
Thanks

I think that yes it must work...just try it out, but maybe with this 2 activated you will notice deference in battery consumption

Nacho Notch! Hide the notch.

Anybody seen this app? Just found it by accident. Works like the built-in one should. It's free and ad free.

I like the notch and will not be hiding it
only problem with that app is it produces 2 persistent notifications. not a good trade-off in my book.

Hold the notification. You can hide them.

the notifications are there to keep the app running all the time. if you block the notifications the app likely will quit working at times.

Hasn't for me. Been running since I posted this.
20degrees method worked for me. No persistent notification. Now I can have the notch always hidden like I wanted
Works nicely. Now when you go into other apps, the top stays black and the notch stays hidden.
Only minor issue if you have OCD, is say you use something like FB Messenger, part of the chat head will be hidden under the blacked out part of the top.
I've been running it for 3 days and no issues yet. Still stays persistent too!

Can't you do the same thing without installing an extra app?
Settings -> Display -> Second Screen
Pick "Custom" and it should change it to be black around the edge of the notch by default.

That stops when u go into apps where the notification bar is a different color. This app keeps it black all the time.

Yup. I actually just donated to the guy. It's worth a few $$ to me.
Does anyone know of a way to get Google Photos to "respect" the notch and not stretch all the way to the top? Otherwise the close and menu icons are cut off (when Natcho Notch) when you're editing a photo.
Conversely, for full-screen apps that do respect the notch but hide the status bar, like Acrobat Reader and Google Play Books, is there a way to force the status bar to show? Otherwise, we have wasted space on both sides of the notch.
My only concern is that unlike amoled screens, lcd screens stay lit when the screen needs to display black. Would it cause burn in by any chance?

My understanding is that LCD screens are not susceptible to burn-in the way AMOLED screens are.

Nope. I've been using it since June and no issues here.

how i can manage the duration of the notifications on always on display ?

i'm using oneplus 6 with stock ROM. i'm using always on display and really love it. but i've got a problem with the notifications.
notifications appear on the screen and stays 4 or 5 seconds and then gone. i love seeing the notification on the screen without touching anything but it lasts in just 5 seconds. isn't there are setting to change this ? except for installing a custom ROM ?
sorry i just figured out that it isn't AOD that i love. it is lift-up display. unfortunately oneplus does not allow us to use AOD with software update, now knowing why.
but my question is still valid. is there a way to change the notification showing duration on the screen while screen is off ?

Yes there is! I use the Substratum Theme "OnePlus AOD Modifier" on OP6 with OOS 9.0.2. It allows you to set the notification time and also the lift up time.

Notification LED with Tap to Show AOD?

So the functionality I'm looking for I used to be able to achieve on OnePlus devices using PlusBeat: A notification light/blinker/text lights up on the OLED display that persists until the screen is unlocked, but the AOD is still made available when I tap the display. As far as I can tell, I cannot achieve this functionality with any of the notification apps I've tried, but I'm open to suggestions.
aodNotify (there's a thread here): Everything works perfectly, but I cannot blink the light independently of the AOD. The clock is always showing while the light is blinking, or the clock never shows at all; no in between.
notifyBuddy removes the tap to show functionality entirely but displays properly.
Most other apps I've tried offer some variation of the two scenarios detailed above. Can anybody help me?

The paid version of aodNotify allows disabling the AOD and just having notifications
General settings > Always on Display operation mode
- Don't Show
The always on Display is not displayed so
only the notification light is visible
