Poco X3 in the US? - Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC Questions & Answers

Have there been any US users brave enough to import this phone? What have been your experiences on Tmobile or AT&T?

Mine should be here on Thursday. I'll post some info once I get it

Thanks where did you buy it?

I got mine today from Amazon from a seller called Mobiles International (only one selling it right now). I'm on Mint mobile set up the APN and rebooted. Getting signal on par with my Mi Mix 2s no issues. I'll be posting more thorough post probably Sunday with my thoughts.

Any idea how to change our find apn for Verizon?

This phone is GSM only. That might be part of the issue with Verizon. To set the APN you go to settings>Sim cards and mobile network>click on the Sim card>Access Point Names.

Are you on t mobile? Some of my other xiaomi's phones have it enabled but it still drops to 3g during calls. But another different xiaomi with the same sim will also have it working so I've been confused whether it's carrier or device dependant

I'm on Mint Sim. I did make a few calls and discovered a few things. If you enter the above code it then shows the VoLTE option under the sim card. If I toggle it on, phone calls don't go through. Toggle off they do. I observed when making a phone call that the mobile signal says 4g rather than LTE during the call. If I use *#*#4636#*#* to go to the info screen it says the voice network type is LTE. Lower on the screen it says that VoLTE provisioned is off. If I toggle mobile radio power off then on the LTE provisioned will then go to On. If I try to make a call the connection resets (network drops for like a minute) and the LTE provisioned toggle goes back to off once the network comes back up.

I'm on Mint Mobile too. I've been trying to find any info I can to enable WiFi Calling, as Band 2/4/5 coverage in my area is weak, and the only strong signal we have at our home is Band 12 which this phone doesn't support, unfortunately.
A few observations:
I disabled both the VoLTE carrier check (*#*#86583#*#*) and the VoWiFi carrier check (*#*#869434#*#*) and enabled both toggles within the SIM card settings page with no luck.
I also saw the settings you mentioned on the hidden info/settings screen ( *#*#4636#*#*) and, similarly to what you said, any options I modify simply revert back. IMS Status is also indicated as "Not Registered" in the more tab at the bottom, and I'm not sure if this is directly related to these features not working. I can't seem to register my SIM Card with the Xiaomi SIM Activation Service either (it requires an international text or something). When I attempt to do so, I just receive a "Can't activate SIM card; Server error occurred while requesting an activation SMS." message. I linked my number with my MI Account on the website, but I still am getting that error, so I'm not sure what's going on there.
Lastly, if I change my phone's WiFi Calling option to WiFi Only (via another secret menu that I accessed with an app literally called "WiFi Calling" lol) it can't make any outgoing calls at all. It can only function with a mobile connection available. If anyone has any info to share on the possibility of enabling WiFi Calling on this phone in the US, or has had experience with configuring other stingy Xiaomi phones, that would be greatly appreciated.

I know in the mint app there's a toggle to turn on wifi calling which is off by default. Did you turn that on?

Oh, yes. I have. At this point I may just have to purchase a cell signal booster for our home, but VoWiFi would definitely be the best case scenario.

Changing regions
Anyone know if you could do factory reset and select a different region that would put you on different bands for Verizon allowing me to get service here in the US? Just checking if anyone's tried that ?

I'm on t mobile and have a few different budget phones from xiaomi and none of them stay on lte during calls for some reason even though I have the volte toggle enabled after dialing the code. Only one of my xiaomi phones which is a more expensive kind will have volte working by default with the same sim card. Not sure what the differences are between them but the budget phones are volte capable for other users just with a different service. Weird because if it's carrier related and my same sim isn't working then something else isn't right. Volte will be an important requirement in the US starting in 2021 because of the 3g shutdown right?
There is a pc tool to modify the modem and also a different one for band unlocking but not too sure how reliable they are. People did have success with it though check out this thread here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-7/help/volte-wifi-calling-redmi-note-7-t3931119/page3
It's a different xiaomi phone but I think the method could be similar. On the last page, someone on t mobile said they were able to get volte and rcs working after some changes. Not sure about wifi calling though. I might try this myself soon though I'm not too advanced with it. It should be fine if an old budget phone is used for testing. Seems to be one of the most useful info I've found after some digging around

The only Verizon bands this phone supports are the 4G bands 2, 4, and 5. No 2G or 3G. It's tailored more so for GSM carriers and Verizon is a CDMA carrier. I don't see how factory resetting or changing the region would affect the bands as that has more to do with the internal modem and antennae than it does the software. But I could very well be mistaken. Awhile back I know there was a weird method to "unlock all bands" if your phone had a Qualcomm chip in it, so phone tech and their carriers can admittedly be a bit of an enigma to me lol. Regardless, I'd advise against getting this phone if you're on Verizon.

Thanks a ton for this info! My dad has a Redmi Note 7 so I might try this out for both of us and see what kind of results I can get.

I stumbled across this icon today, to my surprise. I had followed the steps to modify the modem in the phone, but could not really find an adequate profile among the options to enable for T-Mobile/Mint in the US. I mostly work from home where my cell signal isn't the greatest, so I didn't even see it until a couple days after the modifications.
I'm not entirely sure if it's the modifications to the modem that caused the icon to appear, or simply enabling it via the dialer code but I was surprised to see it, nonetheless.
I tried making a few calls with it, but it seems to disappear when I get into an actual phone call, and unfortunately I have no news on the VoWiFi front.

Signal/Network problem

Hi guys,
I've been having this problem with my N5.
Its a d820 model, unlocked and rooted.
I have no signal, cant register to the network either.
I can use wifi with no problem too.
I changed the micro sim card with other carriers, same issue. I asked for a new micro sim to my carrier too (not cut), but still getting the same problem.
It's worth mentioning that the micro sim works flawlessly. Im using it everyday on an HTC One S and signal and data works perfectly.
When I first get the simcard on the N5, it asks for a reboot, after it comes back up, it shows strong signal, but I can't make any call or receive, no messages either.
After a few minutes, the signal goes down and it shows only emergency calls.
Going into mobile networks and searching for my carrier takes quite some time, but no matter how many times I try to select my carrier,it always comes back with not able to register in the network.
I did a factory reset, and went back to stock, and then performed the system updates to 4.4.4.
I flashed a couple of radios as well, but no luck.
The IMEI shows well, and its the same that shows on the box, so I guess no problems there with a corrupt IMEI.
Has anyone else had any problem like this? Any suggestions?
I've been reading some threads here, and I still have to try a different kernel/ROM, but if anyone else knows of a similar situation, I would appreciate any suggestions.
May be it has something to do wid preferred network...
If u use 3g go to dialpad
Type
*#*#4636#*#* phone info
Select modem as wcdma only...
If u use lte select lte only... See if this works
I think I already tried that, but cant remember for sure
Will give it a shot, thanks
Is the phone second hand?
Have you checked if the IMEI is blocked by the network?
sounds like you bought a used phone that has been blacklisted. if blacklisted, your phone wont work on any US carrier, and many Canadian carriers.
Yes its a second hand phone, and I don't know if it is blacklisted on USA, but Im in South America, so that shouldnt be a problem
And there are no carriers here working with N5 so they cant blacklist the IMEI either
(This doesnt mean that the phone doesnt work here, actually, my wife has another N5 that works like a charm here)

the carriers dont have to work with the n5 to blacklist it. in other words, they can blacklist any phone that connects to their network. as soon as you connect to the network, they know your imei and other info about your phone. anyways, they blacklist your imei, so when your phone tries to connect, it cant. the agreement that carriers have in the US and Canada, could possibly be for all of the americas, or, in south america, they could have their own blacklist.
---------- Post added at 12:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:23 PM ----------
googling, i found that carriers worldwide are sharing blacklists.
The GSMA, an international association of wireless carriers, also keeps a database that wireless carriers worldwide could check to prevent stolen phones from being reactivated on their networks.

yup, thats the best thing to do. the people that first answer the phone, customer service, probably wont be able to help, maybe someone in tech. or, use this website to check(there art other sites as well).. http://swappa.com/esn
Well I just checked. IMEI not blacklisted on my carrier, also checked with swappa, not blacklisted either.
I used the *#*#4636#*#* to select wcdma as well as other options there, but still no go.
Also, under Mobile network settings, changed the preferred network type to LTE, 3G and 2G, but no luck
Tried Choose automatically the network, but still getting the message that its unable to register to the network right now and that I should try again later
I guess Im left with flashing some other ROM/kernel to see if it helps, unless someone has any other suggestions

also, what kind of nexus 5 is it, a d820 or d821? it would make a difference signal-wise. ones for north america, ones for europe. honestly, i have no idea which you would need http://www.phonearena.com/news/Differences-between-the-two-Nexus-5-models-D820-and-D821_id48985
I don't know if the problem is with the carrier, since I'm using the very same simcard with another phone and I have data and network with no problem.
The phone is d820, but I know it works here (my wife has the same one), network 2g and 3g work well here, LTE is the only thing that won't work here with this phone but I don't care about that
I'll keep looking just in case, and I guess tomorrow I'll flash different ROM

If the problem is wid radio flashing a different rom won't matter ..
Have u tried flashing a factory image ?
I know flashing a new ROM wont help with radio, but I've seen that using *#*#4636#*#*, going into phone information and then Select Radio Band, gives me an error and force closes.
I've seen some threads about that, and someone saying that it was working on a CM ROM, so I was thinking of trying that in order to be able to select the radio band and see if that helps.
About the factory image, yes, I used the google images to go back to stock, and then performed the system updates.
Well I flashed Slim Rom, and was able to get into *#*#4636#*#* to change radio band. Tried them all, no change.
Played around with the preferred networks and no luck either.
I'm officially out of ideas, but I'll keep digging around to see what I can find.
Any suggestions welcome.
Also, I know that there is a known issue with the GPS signal on some Nexus 5, and there are a few videos on Youtube showing how to fix it (basically opening the back of the phone, and sticking a piece of paper under the connector).
Does anyone know if there is something similar happening with the radio? Does anyone have a photo of the phone showing which part would be the antenna?
One additional thing I noticed.
If I switch, or just take out and reinsert the micro sim, the phone asks for a reboot. After doing that, when the phone boots up, I see I have network (full bars), going into mobile operators, I can see my carrier, and I can register too. But I cant make or receive any calls or messages.
During this 10 minutes that I have this sort of fake signal, if I go into *#*#4636#*#* and phone info, I can see my carrier, but it doesn't show my phone number. Weird.
Lg nexus 5 network issue
i am facing the same issue with exus 5 .In my hometown in India, the phone simply shows "Emergency calls only" and shifts to normal working mode with full network coverage once i travel to other parts of my state (parts which probably has a better signal strength ,i dont know ).i have tried out changing the sim card and a factory data reset ..Both didnt help ..

Has anyone been able to track down the issue and get it resolved? I'm facing the same situation, and almost taking it to an authorized LG support so that they can change the motherboard.

VOLTE on AT&T

Though this phone is capable of VOLTE it has not, as of yet, functioned on my carrier AT&T. My line is supposedly provisioned properly in their system for VOLTE however the agent I spoke with informed me that an IMEI must be whitelisted on their servers before it will actually work. Basically this means that normally only the phones you buy from them are VOLTE capable because of their whitelisting system. Now this agent supposedly filed a case to get my IMEI added to this list which should supposedly allow for the VOLTE to then function on the AT&T network. And so if this actually ends up working I will report back so others can do the same if they wish to use VOLTE on AT&T.
Cool.... I tried the same but did not get offered to try and get my imei white listed.

This support doc from ATT mentions needing a specific SIM to be able to access voLTE. Did you make sure yours was indeed a UICC-G SIM card ?

I have a Pure on ATT, with a brand new NanoSIM card (picked it up from the AT&T store just after I picked up the phone); the 9th and 10th digits of the ICCID are '27', so it is a UICC-G SIM.. I was bummed to see that VoLTE wouldn't work on the device; all my investigation led me to the phone not being whitelisted in ATT's database. The 'Enhanced 4G LTE Mode' setting doesn't show up at all under Cellular Networks. I ran across a page that says to do the '*#*#4636#*#*' trick, go to 'Phone Info', and make sure that the toggle shows 'TURN OFF VOLTE PROVISIONED FLAG' (versus 'Turn On').. on my phone it showed it as provisioned to start with, but the option to enable Enhanced 4G LTE still is gone.
Apparently with Verizon customers, if the provisioned flag is on, but that menu option is missing, they need to log into their Verizon account and enable the 'HD Voice' flag on their account, at which point the option to enable it will show up. I'm guessing that basically whitelists their devices IMEI, which is the part we're apparently missing with ATT. :/

Hopefully it will, or else they will figure out that they need to let people who want this enable it and make it an account setting we can change! Verizon allows BYOD HD Voice, why can't ATT?!

If you can see the "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode" setting, and it's turned on, in theory it should work.
Then, when you place a call, your status bar's cell signal icon should still show 'LTE' instead of falling back to 'HSPA'.
I ordered this phone via Moto Maker and expect to have it in my hands next week. I currently have an older AT&T sim from my Samsung Galaxy S4, and imagine that I would need a new one to utilize VoLTE. Thanks to all of you trying to figure this out.
I found out from another at&t rep that the guy who told me about creating a case apparently did nothing but keep me on hold for a long time because she couldn't locate this apparent case anywhere. After asking her some hard questions I have gotten her to divulge that hdvoice and VOLTE are operating on lte band 2 or 1900 frequency. If I'm not mistaken this phone is already capable of that band right now even without marshmallow so there is almost certainly some sort of white list on at&ts part. Honestly I will probably write to the President about this because its not like its a security issue its just an absurdity
I asked a friend of mine that works as a manager at a corporate store here in town if he knew anything about it... He said it would be something to ask tech support, but he's not heard of a whitelist for VoLTE services. He did also say that most of what they do is just adding IMEI's to the system, and that they don't get BYOD cases very often...
I also work for AT&T, but not in the mobility side... Currently no contacts in the tech side of mobility either.
/scratches head
Am I the only one thinking that this really shouldn't be such a big mystery?
Especially for actual AT&T Wireless reps?
Here is a link to the ATT HD Voice info page... Turns out I have a goPhone plan and so HD is restricted.

It says in my online account that I am provisioned for VOLTE and from what I discovered from tech support the VOLTE operates on a frequency band that is fully supported by this phone. A whitelisting approach is then the only possible explanation at this point and I will be writing, the President to figure out why
It seems that VOLTE is not yet available on our phones. This is what I was told:
"Enrique: At the moment, VOLTE is only compatible with your Samsung S5 for the Moto X Pure, we are still waiting for a firmware update from Motroloa to have the feature enabled."
and then
"Enrique: Actually when the firmware is released, VOLTE will automatically be enabled on the Moto X, all you need to do is turn it on by heading over to Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > VoLTE"
So it seems we need a firmware update from Motorola. Maybe I missed something on this, though?
I called AT&T yesterday and they also confirmed that your account must be 'enabled' for VoLTE, but their "advanced' engineers (whatever this means) also need to provision your device on the back end. My ticket has an SLA of 12/22. I suspect it should be done much sooner than this and will also update everyone on my findings/results.
Just FYI, volte works perfectly on my MXPE on Verizon. I did have to call and have the feature added. Rebooted the phone, and it was enabled. The firmware DOES fully support it so the problem is likely on AT&T's end. Please keep us updated.
Update from ATT Advanced Tech Support.
"April: At this time we only support VOLTE for AT&T devices."
---------- Post added at 08:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:24 AM ----------
So upon further discussion with ATT Advanced Tech Support, the MXPE is NOT on their list of approved VOLTE devices because it's not an ATT device.
That sucks.
Yep, AT&T is the worst carrier because they are one of the largest (just behind Verizon) and aren't bound to any regulation such as the C-block agreement that Verizon must adhere to. So, that means that AT&T services can be restricted to AT&T devices and only those devices. Verizon and T-Mobile have opened up VoLTE to unlocked phones, however Wifi calling seems to be another story. T-Mobile makes Wifi calling available to Nexus devices, and I'm not sure if agreements are needed between the carrier and phone manufacturer (or proxy for Nexuses - Google). Verizon will definitely limit Wifi calling to Verizon devices too, I'm sure of it, at least at the start. They'll make up some technical or security reason for disallowing unlocked phones.
I wouldn't worry about it too much though. VoLTE is more of a necessity for Verizon because they can't do simultaneous voice/data when on a CDMA call (2013 Moto X can). HSPA/HSPA+ supports voice and data. VoLTE often comes with other issues too, depending on network congestion. Unfortunately, carriers are struggling to keep up with demand for data, and VoLTE is no exception to that as calls are data packets.
VoLTE and VoWifi (Wifi calling) are part of the IMS services framework, and it is up to the carrier to allow access to that framework.

This isn't surprising. I recently had a HORRIBLE experience with AT&T U-Verse (yes I know, different department but same company). They sold me "fiber" Internet which turned out to be DSL and talked me into switching from 60MBPS Charter cable. Long story short, one of the many lies I was told is that I could cancel within the first month without paying any service or installation charges.
....so I cancelled in July only a couple weeks after starting service. I was told by a rep that I would receive a bill only because it's issued before the adjustments are issued and that the account will be zeroed out. The following month I called back when I got another bill. And I've called every month since (several times a month) and received the same story from every rep I've talked to. Each rep says they've zeroed the account but they can't e-mail or fax out any confirmation. I've even been told this by managers. Some of the reps are too lazy for this lie and they'll pretend I've called the wrong department and transfer me to a dead extension, which disconnects the call.
Yesterday I received a collection notice for this. That's going to ding my 809 credit score! AT&T is a shady company! As a long time Verizon Wireless customer I can say that I've never received this kind of service from any tier of their support. I'd highly recommend anyone having issues with AT&T to make the switch. What company can't send external communications? I've had Verizon reps send me e-mails, call me back, or even send official texts while on a call. AT&T is a garbage company and I pity any soul trying to get them to do anything other than bill you.

Does Bell Canada support VoLTE on the S8

I was wondering if anyone that is with Bell Canada can verify if they have support for VoLTE? I have tried in and around Toronto and it never stays on LTE instead always going into H+. I got in touch with support on two occasions and the one time I was told it should be supported and the other time I was told that they only support the S6 with regards to Samsung devices. They were not able to tell me when more devices such as the S8 or even the S7 will be added.
I live on a farm so I don't get LTE here. I'll be downtown tonight, I'll test it. Is the icon in the status bar supposed to change to let you know VoLTE is on?

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that it should continue to show LTE during the call and not switch over to H+. Not sure if it should actually show VoLTE anywhere on the screen during a call.
Here is a link that talks about the introduction of VoLTE which was back in February 2016: http://mobilesyrup.com/2016/02/03/bell-soft-launches-voice-over-lte-in-select-ontario-area-codes/

Apparently, if you go to the dialer / Preferences, there should be a ON/OFF toggle for VoLTE. I do have a LTE sim card but don't have the VoLTE option on my S8+. Website states it's only available for Samsung Galaxy S6, Sony Xperia X Performance, iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus & SE.

Just called Bell and was told that VoLTE feature is not on my account because I have a corporate plan. Supposedly it's only being offered for personal plans at the moment and I would need to switch plans to actually be able to get the feature.
MM13 - I assume you are not on a corporate plan?
The G Dept. - Have you had a chance to try it yourself?
Is there anyone here with a corporate plan that can validate what I was told?

I was wondering if someone could also confirm something for me quickly. If you go to the App widgets screen do you see the one widget that I circled in red? IT appears to be the Bell TV widget but I am surprised that it's showing up the way that it is. I just wanted to confirm that this is normal.

Here is the info I found on Bell's website:
To take advantage of Voice and Video over LTE on the Bell network, you will need:
One of the following compatible smartphones:
Samsung Galaxy S6
Sony Xperia X Performance
iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus and SE with iOS 10
(Note: iPhone devices only support Voice over LTE)
An eligible rate plan with data and an LTE SIM card
Voice and Video over LTE network coverage
And the info from Virgin Mobile's website:
You'll need a compatible phone:
Samsung Galaxy S6 Flat, S7 Flat, S7 Edge and A5
Sony Xperia
iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, 7, 7 Plus and SE with iOS 10
Heads Up! iPhone devices only support Voice over LTE
You'll also need to live in the ever growing area with network coverage. If you're not in the area yet, don't worry, we'll get it to you soon.

I just got off the phone with Virgin Mobile customer service, I didn't have the VoLTE option activated on my account, they said they will add it and to restart my phone in 2 hours, I will test and report back if it's working or not.
Ok, so after my call with Virgin Mobile, I waited 2 hours, powered off my phone, then turned it back on, I made a call and VoLTE seems to be working, I noticed that my first call (I was home) my phone stayed on LTE, then when I was outside, I received a call while my phone was on LTE+, I also noticed that I had a little HD icon in the top left corner of the phone screen.

Thanks for the follow-up. It appears that I may be limited to H+ for now because I have a corporate plan. When I signed up for a 2-year contract it never occurred to me that VoLTE would not apply. It even took a few phone calls to Bell before they were able to tell me the actual reason I was not getting VoLTE on my S8+. With any luck, they will automatically expand VoLTE access in the future but it is something to be mindful of when signing up for a new contract.
I'm on Bell. The VoLTE option is enabled on my phone, but still drops to H+ when I make a call. I'm on a consumer plan so not sure what the issue is.
Does anyone on Bell, not Virgin, have VoLTE working on their S8/S8+? Not just the option on your phone, but when you make a call, your phone remains on LTE?

I would suggest calling Bell and see if they can add VoLTE on to your account. Last time I called them I was told that it was a feature that was not on my account. They did try to add it to my account but told me it wasn't coming up for some reason. Thier only explanation was that it wasn't available to corporate accounts for now. It's possible what they told me is not accurate. I would be very curious to know why you are not getting VoLTE since you are in the Toronto area.

Anyone on Verizon?

With Verizon on current 2.42.617.1, we receive several LTE Bands, which is good in most places with strong Verizon signal. S-0ff until next reboot has been achieved and there is TWRP recovery, root choices, and several custom roms available which make the U11 experience better.
Note if you unlock your device: so far no updates will relock an unlocked device or deny you the ability to stay unlocked.
This is a well-made and for the most part, now problem-free phone. Most of the earlier Verizon connection issues have been resolved.
So far only the Sprint version is out in the wild in the USA. The "unlocked" verizon - ATT, Verizon, Tmobile - is not out yet. Why not just get that one?

Yes, ordered it in first hours of availability: coming this afternoon via FedEx.
Ordered the 'unlocked' one alright.
But in the past I bought the Unlocked HTC/Google PixelXL, and Verizon shortly sent out software that would eliminate
the possibility of unlocking the bootloader - different from carrier unlocked.
I just don't want future bootloader unlock to get prohibited by putting in the Verizon sim. Once burned, now cautious...
Oh, man, this had better not be the case.
I will be returning it if this happens.
At least my LG G3 is unlocked and works the way I want it to.
Got mine already, unlocked model with verizon sim. It's true that this phone does not seem to have cdma radios. So you MUST have advanced calling turned on in order for this phone to work with a verizon sim. So if you aren't blanketed in 4glte service and relied on cdma for phone calls you are SOL. This phone only supports VoLTE for calls. Just an fyi/disclaimer in case cdma is important for you.

This is partially why I am waiting. So see how much others find this to be an issue & come here and talk about it. It seems to me it will be a BIG issue for me as I do find 3G and 1x at times when I travel remotely.
We have zero idea when VZW will be fully moving over and off the CDMA - it could be years and in the meantime, I feel like I need that ability personally.

Actually my Verizon business rep is being told that they need to phase out 3g phones over the next two years. They aren't even allowed to sell 3g only phones anymore, that's why advanced calling is on by default now on new devices. They expect to start re-purposing those 3g towers by 2020, maybe sooner, who knows.
I ordered the "Verizon" U11 (which is actually just the unlocked version). Just got it, opened the box and booted up, went through the HTCdev Unlocking process successfully. Popped in my VZW already activated SIM card and got the message: "Would you like to install settings and apps from your carrier? Existing settings will be replaced." Choices are to install now or later so I said later. Gave it time then rebooted and chose to install the Settings/Apps. Looks like it added some VZ Bloat and also modified some network/call settings, but nothing else.
@WorldOfJohnboy - Interesting. I got none of that when I put my Verizon SIM in my unlocked U11. It works making phone calls, texts, etc., but no WiFi Calling, no Visual Voicemail, no Caller ID, no HD Voice. Only VOLTE is offered. Didn't ask me to install settings or apps. Wonder if I should do a wipe and set up from scratch, because I'd actually like those things to work.
@WorldOfJohnboy can you use Titanium Backup or other method to freeze/remove VZW apps?
Did you have or do you now have Mobile Hotspot enabled?

These options did not work for me. The menus are different than your directions.
There's no CDMA. No GSM options. Only voice over LTE.
Option number four didn't work for me at all.
I only received my u11 last night. Calling is good in my LTE Zone. No Wi-Fi calling options available. This is after I allowed Verizon to install its apps and settings. I don't believe that there were any changes to the menu. I didn't see Wi-Fi calling at all.
The phone is absolutely beautiful but it is slippery and looks fragile as hell. Even in the included plastic clear case I question its resiliency.
However, this is the first Verizon phone I've had where mobile hotspot worked out of the box! Usually I have to unlock root and ROM for that.

Okay, sorry, I just assumed it would be the same as the stock Android 7. It's strange that #4 doesn't work though.
Could you try to find screens similar to #1 and #2 in the settings menu? It should say something about cellular/network. #3 might not be there at all if HTC is using their own dialer app. I've attached examples how it should look.

Sorry, but screenshotting and uploading are too difficult for me at the moment.
None of those options exist for Verizon. LTE is the _only_ option for calling. No voice over WiFi, No CDMA.
There are some GSM-only options, but they don't come up in my phone. Selecting them goes to a forever-waiting "Reading settings..."
Apparently you can use SIP calling for Internet calls.
Hope this helps. I need to get on the unlock process and ROM installation before I decide whether I keep it.

WiFi Calling on Factory Unlocked S8+

A couple of weeks back, I purchased a factory unlocked S8+ Model #G955U1, Baseband Version G955U1EU1AQE3 (The AT&T Galaxy S8+ has different Model and Build #s), inserted my AT&T SIM card and have been using it since. Then I decided to activate WiFi calling, however, unlike my wife's iPhone 7, my Galaxy does not have the option to enable WiFi calling (this option should be under Settings>Connections). After some research, I found out that this a carrier feature which AT&T must provision. When I asked them to do it, they provisioned it on my wife's iPhone 7 but not on my Galaxy, so I called them again and asked them to provision it on the Galaxy. Although they insist that they did, the feature does not show up on under AT&T Devices (It shows up under the iPhone but not the Galaxy). After spending no less than two hours speaking to three agents, I learned that AT&T does not have in their data base the IMEI number of the Galaxy because it was not purchased through them. So obviously, not having an IMEI number, the WiFi calling feature is not going to be pushed to my Galaxy. Not being able to solve the problem, they escalated it to another level who is supposed to contact me two days from now. A friend purchased his Galaxy S8+ through AT&T and the WiFi calling option is there in Settings>Connection and he is able to toggle it on or off. When I used AT&T's IMEI Verification tool, the result was "Device is compatible but we cannot find matching SIM card".
Any and all input would be appreciated.
Same here. Looks like wifi calling is not a feature that is available on the unlocked version unfortunately. Same with using LTE while on calls and built in visual voicemail :/
You have some advantages going unlocked but you lose some things too.

All the information you provided matched with my phone. As a matter of fact, I also tried my friends SIM who is on MVNO called Mint Mobile that runs on T-mobile network. Mint also allowed me to make wi-fi calling. I am surprised that t-mobile rep could not confirm this feature because this feature is on by default! If I don't want to make wifi calls, I have to turn it off. The only little annoying part is that you get constant notification," Calls will be made over WiFi". Even when you block this notification, it will reappear on the reboot

Thank you indeed for your response. When I got my S8+ and before inserting AT&T SIM, this feature was NOT listed under Settings>Connections. I was informed by a Samsung agent that the carriers will push this feature to the phone through their SIM after they provision the feature. So now since my SIM is AT&T and my phone is unlocked, and its IMEI number is not in AT&T's data base, I don't have the feature listed.
Unfortunately, I can't comment on at&t network. On t-mobile, I did not have to do anything except during the initial setup, I was asked if I was ok to make wifi phone calls when a wifi connection was available & the signal was strong. I still have the option not to use this feature. You may wantvto visit a t-mobile store or find a friend who is on t-mobile network. It might not be a bad idea to reset the phone (after backing up) when you get the new sim card. Good luck ?

I switched yesterday from AT&T to T-Mobile and immediately the wifi calling showed up in Phone Settings as you mentioned. However before switching from AT&T to T-Mobile, wifi calling was not anywhere to be found.

That's because WiFi calling and VoLTE are not available on ATT using the US Unlocked device. You have to either buy an ATT carrier version, or flash the ATT firmware to your current device.
Try to reset to factory defaults with sim inside
I'm on Argentina and with unlocked software i got wifi calling when the device is set up with my sim inside

I found that after wasting several hours with AT&T's techs. The 3rd option is to dump AT&T and switch to a carrier that has wifi calling available for unlocked S8/S8+ phones such as T-Mobile.
Wi-Fi Calling works great for me

To access Wi-Fi calling you need to open your phone app and hit the settings button in the top right corner and then scroll all the way to the bottom and it will be there.
