I'm not sure if it's my eyes or my phone isn't refreshing properly but I can't see a difference when scrolling regardless which setting I choose under motion smoothness.
Is there a way to tell what the refresh rate is when adaptive mode is selected?

I agree.
People see different things and can also soon adapt to the smoothness.
I can certainly see the difference when I use my N10+ 5G to when I'm using the N20 Ultra 5G.

Thanks I don't know why I didn't think to look for an app.
I wasn't sure about that one since it only had a few hundred downloads but I downloaded this and the refresh rate is correct.

This app doesn't have an overlay feature. The app suggested by @dougmcsp will show the refresh rate as an overlay on any app/screen on the phone.

So I'm using the factory camera and gallery, has anyone noticed how the display turns to crap when you view pictures? The color tone completely drops and makes the photos look dark and terrible. Is there a setting I may have turned on (or off)? Or is there something third party I should use perhaps?
Because when I view the photos on the PC using my nice HD display, its really not as bad as it looks on the phone.

I think it could be just the app itself and how it was written. But also adjusting the brightness can usually help. One reason I hate the pentile display. > <

I think it is being caused by 2 things.
1. Automatic brightness.
2. Settings -> Display -> Auto adjust screen power. (Although I thought this setting never worked, it sounds like the exact problem you're having)
I just use a brightness widget and a scroll of the top status bar to adjust my brightness all the time. The automatic brightness is pretty much unusable because I find it too dark most of the time.

i've turned off the auto adjust, but i still have general auto brightness turned on. Still dims when in the gallery. i've noticed this on every skyrocket phone i've ran into, the pictures just look dark and dull when being viewed in the gallery.

Turn auto brightness off, this is the main reason I turned mine off. It will usually turn it to the lowest brightness in galleries and looks like ****. Auto brightness is garbage from the factory. There's suppose to be a better mod that checks nearly 100 times a sec and uses less power but I been too lazy to ask my friend for the name of it lol.

There's a post in q& a somewhere that explains the iso settings in different lighting environments. I usually just keep mine set to 200 and makes it alot better. Still darkens a little bit but not near as bad as it did before. I also noticed a difference turning the flash off.

Those are your light fixtures. Similar to recording LEDs with slowmotion, you will see them flicker on and off.
Your lights are turning on and off multiple times a second, you cannot see it.

This isn't a "problem" it's part of how light bulbs work, and how slow motion works. In your house, your lights flicker like that, just fast enough that we can't detect it with the human eye. Slow motion slows this down, which you can then see.

Yours isn't doing what theirs was. Theirs STUTTERS, literally loses frames, yours is doing what it's supposed too. Never losing frames. Just capturing the lights flicking on and off. Again, I know what I am talking about.

That is correct.
The video you linked is not losing/dropping frames.
If you want it not to flash, use incandescent bulbs. (They do not switch on and off repeatedly.)

What does that have to do with edge lighting...
Anyway,
Edge Lighting > Manage Notification
Select apps you want edge lighting on, it is not restricted to "crappy built in apps"
A more useful thing to say would be, ' I wish edge lighting could be customised on a per app basis and show be useful for more situations such as if screen recording flash around edge of the device red or something to show you that you are recording with your device or camera or whatever, or they could use the notch LED ring to do something like this.

Tried Goodlock + Notistar to enable "Eclipse effect" for camera cut out. It broke deep sleep and my phone went from 50% to 0% in 3 hours with screen off. The effect only works for a few seconds with no option to set a recurring reminder. Uninstalled it, but other features in this Goodlock update are great.

ya i heard it won't work without aod
Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk
Even with aod always on, edge light set to always, edgelight+, notifications enabled. If I get a message on hangouts for example, the little icon appears on the aod screen but edge lighting does diddly. Same for the other non Samsung apps I've tried, not that there have been many I've tried thus far.
Now if I happen to have the phone unlocked and happen to be looking at hangouts and receive a message, edge lighting works as expected... but if I'm already staring at the app it kinda makes it pointless.

I left my phone on the pad for charging and accidentally, looking for something else in Settings, found a rather strange set of settings...
Namely its was set for "adaptive refresh rate 120 Hz" + screen resolution on "WQHD+ 3088 x 1440" also Power mode was on "Optimized" ...
The option to change to adaptive refresh rate 120Hz was marked as "On" but at the same time was not highlighted as changeable...
It looks like 120 Hz active and working on WQHD+... Or it was just some glitch in the system...
Did anyone encounter maybe the same...

So it's kinda tricky... I used quick shortcut maker and had motion smoothness as a shortcut. Change the refresh rate to 60 then have the shortcut maker selection on 120 but don't click apply it yet... Change the display to qhd and back to the shortcut and click apply. Settings are set but it's not 120hz

Yes, I know that. Why I quoted that post was due to the allegation that probably the user got the issue because he set both resolution and refresh rate that way before... I just stated that this is not possible
