Dual Sight Camera Feature (Bothie) - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

It's nifty using Nokia's Dual Sight Camera feature (Bothie). Any recommendations that works perfectly on the N20U?

Dunno. Back on my note 4 they had a version of this. I never used it after first month. Think I found it as a downloadable filter for note7, but never actually used it.

Yeah, Samsung discontinued the add-on on Android 9 (Pie).

Thinking of getting honor 8

I'm a big phone junkie. Would like to try various phones. Used bb10 for a long time and since then I've tried many android phones before settling down on the new BlackBerry dtek50. Big fan of BlackBerry android features such as hub, productivity tab, swipe up short cuts etc.
Is it worth getting the honor 8 in my case? Not a big gamer - heavy business's user with phone, email, text and browsing. I'll probably miss the BlackBerry features a lot. But reviews for this phone is pretty good. Would u guys recommend this?

Go to best buy if you can and try one out. The UI is not the best the phone hardware is amazing though...

I would love to. But I'm in canada and no one carries this phone for a demo.
The emui 5 update is supposed to be a lot better than the current one. Not sure whether i can update the honor8 with that yet. The websites say its available only for UK users.
It will update on Honor 8 at some point

If you have High priority for your camera, then you can go for Honor 8. Else OP3T will be good.

Im not a big fan of big phones. 5.5" is too big for me. Max is 5.2-5.3"
Sent from my STH100-1 using Tapatalk
I am going from a Nexus 6p to this phone. After it updates with the latest FW its actually not a bad device. A lot of reviewers highlight problems that are now fixed such as the backlight and a few interface glitches. The audio is not as good as my 6p headphone wise but it is live withable. I am thinking if I root it and see if viper audio loads it may fix that issue. The fingerprint reader works faster then on my n6p however it does have to be more on the reader (my 6p would unlock if I had half my finger on the sensor) but also acts as a button and swipe commands.

This is purely speculation, but I'd guess they'll roll out EMUI 5/Nougat for everyone in a month or two. The US closed beta has already started and I really like the changes. There's one going on in India and China as well.
My biggest reservation when picking up the phone a little under two months ago was the software. Reviews made EMUI 4.1 sound like the worst thing ever. I wasn't a huge fan of the task switcher which scrolls horizontally and shows the recently run apps as unstacked screenshots with a tendency (for me at least) to overscroll when I just wanted to move one to the left or right, but it worked well enough. The notification shade is also split between a left tab with notifications and a right tab with settings. You can swipe left or right on the opened shade to go between the two and there's an option to pick which you want to access by which side of the top of the screen you swipe down from. But I have tiny, Trump-like hands, so I use the swipe down on the fingerprint sensor to access it usually. Accessing it that way will open it to the left tab with notifications if you have any currently, but defaults to the right quick toggle options for WiFi, NFC, flashlight/torch, etc if you do not. I don't think it was the best way to set that up, but I pretty quickly got used to it.
You also have to manually whitelist apps you want to have continue running when the screen is turned off and enable notifications to show up on the lock screen. The average person might have trouble with this, but I'd think most people reading this forum either figured it out for themselves or you can just post here and ask how to do it (there's already a couple threads on it).
If you do pick up an Honor 8 I'd recommend a case and screen protector as I find it rather slippery without one.
As was previously suggested I'd try the phone out in Best Buy and see if you like it. Now's a good time to buy one if you do as there's a bunch of sales going on. Overall, I really like the phone and the EMUI 5 update has made it even better.

emui5 does look promising
Agree with the UI not being the best but the software is amazing, the screen is sharp and the dual cameras are superb. EMUI's gestures are really useful too.

UK Owners Check-In

Thought I'd make a thread for UK owners to check-in seeing as it launched here yesterday. How are you finding yours so far? Mine's been fine for the most part, and I was surprised to see a case included in the box (I don't usually do cases but figured I may as well this time if it's free). Couple of oddities though, notably:
- There's no option to stop it adding newly installed apps to the homescreen. Had to install Nova Launcher in the end purely to stop this!
- Where's the 8.1 update? Mine's stuck on 8.0 with the February patch. It seems to be a different model number to what others have (TA-1055) so I'm hoping it'll come any day now, but still...
Other than that, though, it's been sound. Haven't noticed any issues with task switching that others have reported and the experience has been pretty smooth going in general.
Where's everyone else?
Some minor issues, but otherwise performance and battery life is great, brightness is fine, haven't tried any bluetooth audio or headphones yet though. Pleased with it.
Had an issue where OK Google detection was not working, but that's fixed after a reboot. Doesn't work with screen off which is slightly annoying, going to try Google/Play beta and see if that makes it work. Otherwise hoping for this in future updates.
Opening the google app from the G logo in the launcher search bar doesn't work properly - feed doesn't load and it appears as though I'm not logged in. Contacted support about this one and they said they'd investigate, but didn't get the impression they'd actually submit a bug report or anything...
Not a huge fan of the launcher vs my old Nexus "Google Now" launcher, prefer the central button for the app drawer. Not sure what to replace it with for now. Considering the pixel launcher but am unsure which version would work well. Also the nav bar at the bottom seems overly thick, which is a shame with such a huge screen.
Nokia's camera isn't the best, it takes good pictures, but I much prefer Google's camera, especially for HDR. Arnova's Pixel2Mod V7 final camera is nearly working flawlessly, but the selfie cam resolution is lower than it should be and lens blur crashes it. Also no support for the 2x lens with that. Waiting on a version which will do everything correctly.
Yeah I was a little disappointed that screen-off OK Google doesn't work, but then my house is littered with Google Homes, and it was a little annoying when my Nexus 5X would answer a query 30 seconds after the Home had already done it. So maybe needing to turn the screen on works in my favour here.
What colour did you get, out of interest? I really wanted the white one but nowhere seemed to have them, not even Nokia themselves.
Edit: And do you have a link to the version of the Google camera you're using? There seems to be half a dozen different variants.
Went with black, preferred it personally. I think OK google with screen off is something that doesn't work on a lot of phones after googling around, so it's not too bad to not have it, but disappointing for me nonetheless. I had hoped to have this feature as it never worked very well on my old 5X. Haven't tried with a bluetooth headset though, which apparently works for other phones with the same issue, and that would be useful sometimes for me.
As for the camera, take a look here: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/ but specifically this one: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/...GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V7-Final.apk
So the UK version doesn't come with 8.1 Oreo?
I was going to exchange my Huawei P20 Lite for the Nokia 7 plus.

Not out of the box, no. Like I said I'm assuming it'll be released within the week but I haven't asked Nokia directly. It's probably just because it's a different variant I'd imagine.
Anyone found a UK spec dual SIM model?
I believe all the UK models are dual sim? It certainly has the hybrid sim tray in mine, though I haven't actually tried using a second sim or tried the other space for a sim

UK models are single SIM. Clove has a dual SIM option on their site.
EU models are dual SIM.
Nokia 7 Plus Single SIM - TA-1055
Nokia 7 Plus Dual SIM - TA-1062,TA-1046 (I think the TA-1062 is the Chinese model)

Glad for this thread, as I think no one in UK / Ireland got the update to 8.1.
More on this here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-7-plus/help/eu-7-dual-sim-ta-1046-model-stuck-t3780101
I bought my N7+ from Amazon.de and I am still stuck on 8.0 with feb security patch. Using the phone in Ireland on Three and Vodafone networks (I have the dual SIM TA-1046).
According to Nokia Support I should be able to get the update to 8.1 once it will be available. their latest reply:
"Regarding your inquiry, it is is good to know that your Nokia device should be able to update to Android 8.1, once it is available. Also It is good to know that updates are released at different dates in order not to overload the network and when there is an available update you would receive a notification."
Regarding the phone:
- looks great
- great build
- superb battery life
- quite snappy (compared with my Oneplus X)
- got a Nilkin case (looks great on the phone) from here http://nillkin.org/smartphones-acce...plus-accessories/nillkin-nokia-7-plus-frosted
Not that I'm sadistic or anything, but quite happy to read here that other People are waiting on 8.1 update too. Got the phone yesterday from UK to Ireland TA-1055. 8.0 with Feb patch
Phone is pretty good.Im coming from Oneplus 3 which was fanstically otimised for speed so I am noticing the Nokia a little slower even though the sd 660 beats the sd820,but it's early days for this phone,so will give it some time and hopefully soon more speedier updates.
Phone needs more optimisation definitely and can't get rid of vibrate on fingerprint.Camera is good, but app needs fixing .Will try one of those pixel apps.
Hoping the 8.1 update will be next week at least. Bit worried for the future if they're making us wait on updates already.Maybe Google will have a word with them and tell them how Android One is supposed to work
Just received update for 8.1 in the UK

Waiting for my Nokia 7 Plus to arrive on Tuesday. Curse the Bank Holiday weekend! It's been sitting at the local delivery warehouse since Friday evening!
Question for those who've already received their phones...
Has anyone had any joy with WiFi Calling, VOLTE, with any operators with these phones?

EE works for both volte and WiFi calling, the other 2 networks don't.
Insider info from an advisor at Carphone Warehouse, The Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6 2018 are being discontinued in coming weeks due to manufacturing faults. It seems some units are exploding when on charge using the supplied charger. Also will be pulled out of the Android One program later this year for not committing to timely updates for all regions. Everyone get ready to return or sell your device.
I think it could be end of Nokia for good this time.

As a Carphone Warehouse employee, we get emails from head office mentioning these things including new deals about to launch in stores. It's true as stock will be on hold very soon and the Nokia 8 from last year will be reduced in price to make up for it.

[Discussion]Note9 AI photography to S9+

Samsung already unveiled the Note9's camera ability to take incredible pictures using the same set up as S9+ but with AI implementations. I wonder if Samsung will release AI for the S9+ as well? Both devices are literally the same with the exception of the pen, larger base storage, and the screen able to use the pen. If Samsung do not officially release it, is it possible to port over that AI function, I'm guessing base on the camera app of the Note9?
In theory, this shouldn't be too hard if the cameras use the same hardware.

If the hardware is the same then nothing can stop it.
Also for one: Gotta stay positive. Two: based on my experience with various brands and years of seeing and applying different modifications, I would to believe that we will get that function eventually. As i recall, my old Xperia Z1 got 4K recording ported from the z5... How cant the s9 get the Ai?

Well, let's hope for the best
AI in the camera isn't all it's cracked up to be. The P20 Pro and the G7 both have it and both suck at it. The Note will suck at it too.

Does the Gear S3 Frontier work with the Nokia 6.1(2018)?

Hello! I have a Nokia 6.1, the 2018 model. I'm looking for a smartwatch and so far this is the best one. I found one at a really good price and I want to buy it. However I was scrolling through the compatibility list on the Samsung Gear website, and I couldn't find any Nokia devices. To my surprise, there was no Google phone as well. I have seen tho Pixel 3s connecting to the Gear S3. My question is, will the device work with my phone, or will I get "scammed" and I'll lose aprox. 200$? There are some ancient smartphones on the device list, like the Sharp Aquos? ( how many ppl do use that?). Thanks

I don't see why any Android phone wouldn't work. Nevermind they aren't updating the compatibility list this late in it's life and I'd imagine it wasn't updated at all since the device was first released. One issue you may have is the native texting app not working with the watch but the fix is using something like Textra or Google Messages.
I'm using the S3 with a Nokia 7 plus, and it runs perfectly.
My guess is that it will also work well with the 6.1

Oh okay thanks. Well the phone has Android One, which means it runs the same as the Pixel. So it should work right? I'm asking because I saw some threads here on XDA about people having problems with Nokia devices and the gear S3. Well then I'll go ahead and buy it!

Is the S7 flat still worth it? 2019

As the title says, is the sS7 flat still worth buying as of today? I recently sold my phone and wanted to buy a new one, and found an s7 for $170, but I don't know if it's a good deal. What do you say?
Thanks.
I've not long had mine, maybe a month?
I came from an S4, had a moto x style (play in US) for about 6 months then I got a second hand S7 for £100. I think the camera was better on the moto but the development has all but stopped now
Getting an S7 though? I absolutely love it once you get it on a custom rom (or debloated stock) and get it tweaked just the way you like it, it runs like an absolute dream, I'm very happy with it
The price is good. Just make sure it is new and not rooted before buying.
Yeah I bought one in June after having a BLU R1 HD. S7 is much better
If you are curious I have a SM-G930W8
Nice nice, thanks everyone. I just bought it, it should arrive by Saturday or maybe Monday. I'll report back

Did you buy the international version or a US model? International S7s are absolutely better in almost every single way.
Been using mine since 2018, got it off my partner when she upgraded to a Note 8. Its currently running alexndr dev base rom and it never misses a beat! Besides, if it's good enough for DISA's DMCC-S network, it good enough for me.

This is bad information.
No. Not every single way. And if buying for a US carrier, it's worse in many of the ways that matter: radio compatibility, and proper csc for function of wifi calling, VoLTE, and ViLTE, etc.
It's been a slow process with deaths in the family, but I've just started getting my s7 ready to use. Wanted to do the right research on what is safe or not to debloat for what I use, and that took a while. I'm 99% ready to use it [emoji846] my mom also has an s7. But I think the debloat process is helping mine run even smoother.
Once I have it fully the way I want, I'm gonna make a full backup. Then that way when I want to "reformat" I can just go back to that point. Seems like a good plan.
I plan to run it right down into the ground, lol. Some people upgrade every year. Me? I'll be upgrading from the captivate glide! S2 based. I still love that phone and it's in great physical shape, but the ram and compatibility just are not keeping up with it anymore even for a lighter user like me. I can use root to fool the play store about which android version, but if the app update coding doesn't support my older devices architecture it ends up with parsing errors and won't run. It took this long but this is finally starting to officially kill my s2.
I plan on running the s7 in exactly the same manner, until I just can't make it work any more! [emoji16]
what ROM is the best for S7? I have currently lineage OS 16 with nano gapps, I am considering to change it to something else. some features of the phone are not used(face unlock??), and few bugs I have noticed like the camera app is terrible slow (unable to take photos at night cause the flash is flashing and after a second the picture is taken LOL)
Well i just bought one, Canadian version with exynos in case i end up rooting it.
I did buy it just to use in the gym as an MP3 player but will likely end up flashing roms etc on it as well.
Doubt i could use it as my main device as its too small for me (im using a note 10 plus so big difference lol).
The lineage OS is good if you don't mind the camera photos being poor quality. If you want the best out of your camera you will need to run a Samsung stock based OS, because only those have the right camera drivers. SupermanRom is a good android version 8 debloated Samsung OS.

well thank you for the reply, I like the pure android PIE feeling (currently crDroid), but some features are missing, and OFC, the camera (the most important) is way worse than my Xiaomi MI5 was, so I'll consider to flash a stock base ROM
-don't you know if any GCam is working good on ROMs like https://turbox.uk/pages/roms.html ? (no black screen death, and photo quality as good as samsung stock)?
...superman or DevBase v6.0 or....LightRom by TeamExyKings..... hmm, how to choose from these? /if the camera problem can't be solved on these aOSP stlye roms/

I tried LineageOS for a while, because I really like so much about it, but the big downside was the camera, so I tried GCam versions until I found one that's stable. Best case scenario is poor compared to what it would be on a Google phone or what stock Samsung OS would do, because of the kernel-layer camera api that Samsung provides to hook into the cam hardware--you cannot drive the camera properly without these proprietary driver hooks. So I eventually wiped LineageOS and installed SupermanROM, and had a lightweight but very customized and stable experience, with the EXCELLENT cameras Samsung designed. Also, it was a big fight just getting gcam to work without force-close, and then some functions didn't work, and couldn't do high-def vids at fast framerates. It all just works with Samsung cam app + drivers.
So, no, GCam is the best you get for non-samsung OS, but not even close to what you get from Samsung OS.
I don't know about DevBase. SupermanRom was all I tried. It's been a year since then. I moved on to a Note9 phone. The S7 is now actually running LightRom, and is quite nice! (9.0 NFEPort JetBlack) Great cam too! But, I cannot comment about it beyond that, since it's not my daily driver and I have used any radios except wifi. Use TWRP and try em all! Start with the Note9 port and see if it just works. Check bluetooth first. (I like it mainly for the built-in dark mode).
