September update broke my camera, N986BXXU1ATI2 - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

My phone is the Exynnos Note 20 Ultra 5G SM-N986B/DS and it was working fine so far, but 2 days ago I received the software update for September N986BXXU1ATI2 and the camera has some purple/green colors but after a while inside the camera app fixes itself, but if I switch camera modes it goes back to that.
Things that I tried so far:
1. Wipe cache partition
2. Test other camera apps (same outcome), so I guess is more of a camera firmware.
The update does mention camera improvements so that is why I think is not hardware related. What do you guys think?
Is there a way to make a full phone backup?, wanna try flashing a complete room.
I have attached a YouTube video.

Try clearing the cam app data?
Clear system cache again afterwards.
Hard reboot (not reset!) might get it.

No luck, I think I might have to go wipe/flash route. Quick question I have a long time without rooting or modding phones, does samsung still uses ODIN? or is there another software? Is there a way to make a full backup of the user data without losing it?

I'm not the one to ask about flashing. Probably be on a stock 10+ until it dies.
If it's not already rooted there's no way to save most of your app settings.
Poweramp and PD MDM are two of the few apps that provide exportable backup copies for settings/db.
Data can be transferred to the SD card but I would also back that up on the computer. Make sure your contacts, texts, pics, movies, music and documents etc are backed up.
I use ApkExport to save copies of all my apps and updates for faster reloading
I use my SD card like a data drive.
If you're going to go all nuke about it might as well try a hard reset and see if a clean load solves the issue

@blackhawk thanks man. I guess i will have to go hard nuke, I wish that there was a way to copy stuff smart switch way. I transferred everything from my old Note 10+ to this one using smart switch. It sucks that i sold it 1 week ago.

Smart switch didn't work very well for me... it was a time consuming mess.
After a couple reloads if you streamline your data storage it's pretty easy. About a day to get it 90% back plus you learn a lot by playing with it.
I generally wait a while before during firmware updates... especially if it's running well.
If the phone is under warranty and a hard reset doesn't fix it I would sent it in to cover your ass...ets.
Let Samsung sort their own mess out.

@blackhawk thank god i didn't import it myself, i bought it from a store, but they imported it from Singapore. I already validated with them that if i can't fix it by doing a hard reset, then i would request a replacement and they agreed.

Hopefully the reset will get it done
Resets are over used as many times it's a settings issue... lazy techs.
A fresh clean load is nice though.

Sudden issues with my phone

I've had this phone since the day it released and generally had no problems with it. But a couple months ago, I started having issues with the home screen loading the icons up every time I went to home. Random reboots for no reason, too. I read that it seemed to be a common issues for the phone, so I thought I'd wait for Gingerbread. But today the phone wasn't begin responsive when I tried to text, so I tried rebooting and now it's stuck on the endless reboot. It seems the only way to stop this is to get it to factory reset itself, but I'm hoping I don't have to do that because the phone did a factory reset by itself a month ago and I don't want to deal with starting over again. Is there another trick to it?
Maybe I'm better off getting it replaced. Are the newer models free of all these glitches or is it all still more or less a crapshoot with the problems I've had, screen bleeding, ect?
Just so it's out there, I rooted my phone with SuperOneClick, but I didn't flash or install any roms.
yea i would sumtimes u just get a bad phone when u flash it!! but i'd try another rom and see what that does!!!
But I never flashed it to begin with. It this happened 6 moths after already having the phone.
But if I can fix it by flashing it, maybe I'll try that. I've been wanting to try that cyanogenmod since it's lookign better than my stock froyo.
Yea I would flash it b4 tryin a new1...n if that doesn't wrk then u no what to do

If I flash it, is my phone going to reset itself anyway? Totally new to this.
yup thats y i always flash lol
If you have Clockworkmod Recovery try to just clear the Dalvik Cache. Reboot loops are usually Dalvik Cache issues. The first boot after clearing the cache can take around 5 minutes so be patient.
I went ahead and factory reset it, since I have never flashed it or have any of those apps. If I decide to look into installing Cyanogenmon on my phone, where should I start reading to get all the information to learn how to do it? I've rooted my phone, but that's it. I've stuck to pretty much what was on the phone.

If you rooted it, that means you installed Clockworkmod Recovery. To install CM7 you download the zip package, go into recovery, do a factory reset and wipe the dalvik cache, format the system and flash the zip you got from CM.
I rooted it in Superoneclick though, I don't know if I have Clockworkmod recorvery, unless it's not supposed to show up in the app tray like Superuser does.
Isn't there a way to backup my current state on my phone so I keep all my settings in place? I'll probably get into this tomorrow after work.
Check out tgagunmans nvflash method to get cwm 5.0.2.0 on your phone in dev section.

Alright, now it's really ****ing up and pissing me off. I haven't done anything new to it. I was browsing the Market today and now I see that the home button doesn't work at all, I can't snap any pictures, there's no screen lock screen, I can't even change it to airplane mode when holding power, it only gives me the off option. What happened to this thing?

Have you loaded a lot of apps that autorun when you turn on the phone? Many do and you could be unaware of that. If too many apps are running, or a badly programmed app is running, it can cause issues such as this with your phone.
Also, it sounds like you are still on Froyo with the old baseband. You might want to consider factory resetting it again and running the LG Updater to get GB and the new baseband. Then use the One Click Flasher to install Clockwordmod so you can do backups (basically snapshots of the current state of your device) and then you can play around with alternate roms.
if that doesn't fix it then your device is defective. If you have a warranty you might just want to get a swap going on it.
Yeah, I'm still stuck on Froyo. Is the LG Updater working now? Last I read, it was bricking phones. If it works now, I'm guessing my plan should be:
Factory reset
Use LG Updater
Use One Click Flasher to Install Clockworkmod
Install a rom (Cyanogenmod)
Alot of this terminology is totally new to me, so I'm totally lost reading these tutorials that seem to rely on knowing what these terms mean.
Anyway, would be nice to get rid of all these errors. I can't even install anything from the marketplace anymore, I get a force close.
Alright, tooling around on Cyanogenmod 7 now. I don't like that it doesn't have the LG camera or Swype, so I switched to Weapon G2X. Liking it. Any other recommendations?
Weapon G2x is awesome i keep coming back to it my self.... but for the record i've only owned my phone for about a month and i havn't had any problems at all with i love actually .. i just can't find a kernel that doesn't mess things up back on subject i pretty sure GB took care of most of the problems people were having with the phone i don't know if they did any hardware updates to the newer models
Yeah, it's great. The only issue I have is that Swype doesn't give me a list of alternatives when I double tap a word, so I need to re-Swype the word "if" when it was supposed to be the word "of".
Last question, Can I make multiple backups with Flashworkmod? Now that I've fully set up all my phone, apps and fully configured all my settings, I wanted to back it up to this point so my personalized settings are still accessible. Or is it only one backup?

Do you mean Clockworkmod Recovery? The backups are coded by date and time so you can make as many as you want. Consider each one a snapshot of the exact state of the device at the time you made the backup. It will be restored exactly the same.
Yeah, whoops. Clockworkmod Recovery. Thanks for the help!

[Q] Issue with I9003 - Pseudo Factory Reset

Hi forum!!
I've been a happy Samsung Galaxy I9003 owner for a while now, and I've always come to this forum for reference on any issues encountered. But right now I have an issue i'm having a hard time understanding, and it's quite a mistery.
Everything started when I downloaded the new Gingerbread update. The phone was wonderful, worked perfectly, but it had one little issue. I left it one night, and the morning after when i picked it up i saw that it was prompting for the initial data (language, use 3G-Wifi, etc). I completed the form once more, and it was back to factory...but in a weird way. Contacts were gone, SMS were gone, APNs were gone, WiFis were gone...but my apps were still there! They were even ordered alphabetically in the menu! Weird, really weird...Background was back to the factory one, icons on the main desktop were back to factory ones, ringtones were back to factory ones. But all my app configurations were still there, emails, gmail, market, corporate email...it was all there.
I discarded this as an issue with the Gingerbread ROM i installed (from Kkrraazzyy's post, the last one), so I downgraded to Froyo once more. Now, why would I ever want to do that?
Idiot me did not look into what version I was running. So I tried the version i remembered I had installed. Worked nice, installed nice...but....next morning...SAME ISSUE! Once more the initial configuration and the same thing...no APNs, no SMS, no Contacts, no nothing, but apps and configs, purrfect!
Now, what I did was move to other Froyo images thinking that I might have gotten the wrong one. I discarded 4 or 5 of them, with different things not working on my phone exactly.
So, after a bit of debating with myself, I decided to upgrade to another GB, but not the final version, a previous one. When i connected it to Samsung Kies, to restore my backup, Kies greeted me with a "I've got a new firmware for your phone...do you wish to upgrade?". I thought "Why not? Maybe if the Samsung software is performing the upgrade, then it might work, considering that i wouldn't be intervening and possibly not interfering with it. So it upgraded, took a considerable amount of time in comparison to ODIN, but it went through.
How did it go? Smooth as silk...everything was wonderful! Apps worked, hardware worked, phone run well...backup went in perfectly...i was so happy! Last night I was watching a movie with it, it was great! So i went to sleep with a happy smile on my muzzle, only to wake up this morning and find the phone with....THE FRIGGIN' START FORM ONCE MORE!! FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!
Once more, no APNs, no SMS, no Contacts, no WiFi, no nothing!!! Back to factory partially!
So now i'm thinking...firmware is out of the question...is there any chance there might be something physically wrong with my phone by now?? Something like...I don't know...I haven't got the slightest idea. So i'm open to ideas about what this might be about..
Oh, a colorful note...don't know if it has something to do, but i consider it sporty to let you know about it. A weird thing about a Froyo version i installed, was that when you woke up the phone, it would show a red sign on the top saying "Internal SD memory removed". I was truly shocked since I thought that the internal memory could not be removed without the phone crashing. But well, i just discarded that data at the time as an issue with the image.
Ideas, anyone? If not, i'm guessing i'll just place it under my car, ran it over, and get another with the insurance...
I think I heared such problem once a time. Try in this way
1. flash kpe with all 4 files
2. flash kpm single file as pda file.
3. do factory reset
if it solve ur problem then its better for u. But if u still face internal sd card error problem then straight way flash stock firmware which is available in ur country & go to samsung center & tell them that suddenly this problem is occured. Dont tell them that u have ever flashed anything on it.

LMAO, I lol'd hard at your post regarding it went overnight FUU.
Firstly, the post was a little long, but interesting. Me gusta.
The problem could be the following
- What class is your SD card? Some tend to buy cheap ones, or some tend to offer when you get a SALE they pitch in a ****ty SD card that literally messes your phone. Made in Taiwan > Made in China. For some. There have been cases when the SD card has not been "ejected" properly the phone tends to receive this as a crash and default sets everything back to stock *Apple does this aswell*. But ofcourse I implore you to try using ANOTHER SD card. If your using one that used to be from a Nokia phone then you need to format that ****. Some files in Nokia cause issues with the Android, this happened when I first got my phone aswell. I would suggest getting one from branded companies, Kingston/SanDisk, IMO, Sandisk is the best. Cheap yet to the mark.
- What put me on edge was your contacts and messages being gone. Maybe it's SD related. Iunno.
PS: Don't use Kies. Kies is horrible. If 2 ugly trolls mated, Kies was probably the result.
To test: Use XXKPH/XXKPM Choice is yours, Don't know how to flash it? Link is under my sig, Remove your SD card. Use it for a day, Fill up the internal memory with atleast 500MB of stuff. Lastly? Pray that overnight the trollfairy doesn't swap your phone with a factory reset one .
Hey Misledz! Thanks for your reply!
About the SD Card, I'm using a Kingston Class 4, 8GB one. But the issue is presenting with "Internal SD Card". While i'm doing this with the phone, just out of precaution, i take it out and i haven't placed it inside my phone yet.
And the whole "Trollfairy" thing, it's starting to look like a viable explanation to it, LOL!!

@Collie, Well the problem happens at times when you don't factory reset. *2767*3855# that should get you in to a manual factory reset. The phone's internal memory sometime's has issues with that, You may however need to flash the latona file to repartition the drive. After the repartition, the flashing of the firmware and lastly, le factory reset. That should serve as a stable ground base

About that, maybe I'm doing the reset in an incorrect way. I've been using Vol +, OK, Power to enter the second recovery mode and factory reset the phone. I don't know if this is the same as using the code.
Update on what I did:
I installed the last version of Gingerbread once more, flashed with Odin. This time i did not install any app or register in google, i just left it as it was. This was done saturday afternoon. At night, i took it with me, and i left it in my bag while I was at the club. When i got back to it, around 6 AM, it hadn't rebooted. So i went home, went to sleep, woke up at midday for lunch and....FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!
LOL the irony of the best order. Well did you try without the sdcard? That's your last option from your side, the next possible is getting the unit changed if you are under warranty, just don't mention odin, rather always blame kies LOL. If the end of the world happened, kies. World War 3,kies. There was a user who had the same issue reported like 5months ago, he had internal ROM problem where the phone failed to save the information it was given causing it to say the internal was corrupt? He ended up getting a new unit and found out later the unit he had previously was a faulty handset

SD has been out since day 1, since I started having this issue, first thing i thought is "this idiot is saving its own files to the SD instead of its own memory, and when it reboots for some reason it can't find the files and goes nuts".
So yes, i'm thinking about just taking it to the store and getting a new one...
THAT'S IT! I'm taking it to the store tomorrow...

GT-I9023 continuously reboots

Hello all,
Yesterday evening my Nexus S started to continually reboot, sometimes getting as far as the Launcher, sometimes not. I've tried removing the SIM, it doesn't help. I'm not sure what recovery mode is supposed to do, but it reboots out of that too. I never rooted it or anything; is there something I can try before I go for the factory reset?
Best,
Danny.
simple answer : factory reset
try reboot into safe mode, by long pressing power off in the power menu. if this doesn't work, then factory reset. DO NOT PIRATE APPS! because this is what happens when you try to save a few cents by pirating.

Safe mode survives for about a second before it reboots again.
I've never pirated apps.
I think it's time to do a factory reset while I ponder the stupidity of doing an sms backup and leaving the backup file on the phone.

I'm afraid you will have to do a factory reset, but I would advise you to just root your phone! It's very easy nowadays, and it only gives you a win-win situation. Of course only if you use your phone normally.

Yes, I was thinking about rooting if I have to do a factory reset anyway. Actually I spent yesterday trying to figure out if there was a way to access the internal "sd card" from recovery mode using adb, but I wasn't getting anywhere with that, and now the phone looks like it needs the attentions of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397393 (does anyone know if that works under gentoo rather than ubuntu?)
The phone's halfway through a two year contract so there's a small chance that someone might fix it for me for free on Monday morning, whatever I just need it to be in a usable state on Tuesday morning because I have to go and do a scientific experiment at a synchrotron.

My advice would be: try backing up whatever you need, there are some free backup apps out there. Then if you don't want to void warranty, root your phone and install titanium backup. The paid version allows you to set schedules that it will backup your phone. In case something like this happens again, you will not have the same problem.

we finally have evidence that pirated files causes hardware defects!
The UnBrickable thing didn't detect it, so I took it to get fixed under guarantee. It's now Somebody Else's Problem. Thanks for the suggestions.

I finally got it back today...

Is my Nexus 5 dying?

In the last three months or so my phone has been struggling. I don't know if it is a memory leak or bad memory flash as every so often the phone will be busy doing something and completely lock up. I'm having to restart my phone once of twice a day. I use Android Auto and need to restart the phone and clear all recent apps in order to get it to work.
I have tried factory resetting the phone, clearing the caches and installing CM13 but still get these slow downs and crashes. Is there anything else I can do or do I admit defeat and get a new phone?

Have u tried factory flashing? I've also heard of lol downgrading letting run to c if there's any difference than upgrading back to the latest. Another question is do u root your phone and if so do u use or tweak your phone? And my personal unfavored, what kind of apps do u use? Do they take all your memory? Try some of these and also think about these and reply back, I'd like to help you the best I can (I'm no super expert tho, the most I've done is replaced my nexus screen and camera parts)
edit: also be careful of those custom kernels, tweaking around those frequencies can lead to your phone spazzing , hint, hint, over clocking.

I have upgraded and downgraded the software but that doesn't seem to help. Apps are the normal social networking and utility apps. No fast paced games or other battery sucking apps. I haven't messed with custom kernels and OCing on this device.
Hmm that is weird, u even tried clearing the cache too hunh? Let's see, have u ever taken a look inside then? Maybe cleaning it out? I've had to clean my phone before because it wouldn't turn on due to dust and whatnot inside it. That's really strange that you've even factory flashed and that didn't help, usually that'll clear up the problem, the reason I could think of is its reaching that eol point because it's just that time or u didn't take care of it (this obviously isn't the case I assume), or maybe it got damaged somehow, or maybe a good clean. Idk I'm just throwing out ideas. But really tho factory flashing should've solved that problem, flash it 2 times in a row lol

Anyone wants to sue google for this phone?

Hi guys. I have recently updated my pixel 3 to android 10 and wow tons of bugs.
Now my notification is not showing. My home button is not working in any gesture mode, same as my multi task button. The only thing working is the back button. Not to mention the update failed 2 times earlier (stuck on google logo.)
I am planning to sue google for selling goods with manufacture defects. The same thing other people did with pixel 1 years ago. Any one wants to join. I have a membership with a lawsuit service so want to try to use it for at least once this year.

My Pixel 3 is running beautifully. No issues what so ever. Have you performed a full reset and installed the factory image? Booted in safe mode to see if one of your apps is causing the issue? Love how there are so many people on the Sue wagon. No wonder the courts are so full of crap.
Having a membership in a lawsuit service says a lot about you. I have had my Pixel 3 since launch and it has worked flawlessly since the day I purchased it.
I would suggest a factory reset and then install the factory image then add one app at a time untill you find the offenders.

Sounds like you were too impatient with the first two attempts at upgrading. It can take quite a long time sometimes for the phone to completely update itself and optimize the apps. The more apps you have, the longer it will take. Stopping this update process will cause all kinds of issues with your phone - the type of issues that you describe now.
Best bet would be to do a full wipe and installation of Android 10. This means losing all of your data, but it will fix your issues.
The root of your problem is not a hardware issue - it's user error.
A lawsuit service?
Lmao, no.

I suppose 20 hours wait each time will be enough
I don't know what is happening here on this thread. When a phone manufacturer crushes your phone with an update and tells you that they don't have a good backup method and the only way to save your phone is to factory reset it and lost most of your data. Then the people here just say, then do it.
This phone sells 880 tax included not 699 as oneplus 7 pro. (Besides, that phone is the one more like 880 worth)
I hope all these people will face problem one day and told by the customer service that a specialist will contact them who won't show up no matter how long they wait.
Ugh

You have a 'membership for a lawsuit service'? You sound like an absolute weapon.
Hi, haotingliu1990.
I, like the rest of the people who have posted, have not had the negative experience that you are having, nor do I want part in a lawsuit. Also like others, would recommend wiping your phone and starting fresh. You mentioned that there no backup solutions but there actually are quite a few...
1. Google's built in back up and sync. This will take care of apps that support it, sms, wifi networks, and maybe a few other things (wallpaper, settings, etc. I don't remember all).
2. An app like titanium backup. That will cover any app and it's data that you need it to.
3. An app like sms backup and restore to, obviously, backup and restore your sms.
4. Google photos will automatically sync your pictures to the web so they don't get lost.
5. Some apps have a built in backup feature so you can export the settings to your storage.
6. Plug your phone into your computer and back up anything from your internal storage.
You can use a combo of those options and keep everything you need. As a note, multiple of those are provided directly by Google, so I doubt arguing that Google provides no backup support will get you very far.
Once you've backed up what you need, it's easy to start clean. You can either use the stock recovery to preform a factory reset, or, if your bootloader is unlocked, use the factory images (that Google provides).
As the rest of the people commenting don't seem to be experiencing what you are, it's a safe assumption that starting fresh would take care of your issues. Let me know if you'd like help. I have before and am willing to again, help someone one-on-one through the update/backup/install process to make sure it works for you.
