[Guide] How to flash stock firmware and re-lock bootloader.

Guide: Returning to stock firmware + re-lock bootloader.
NOTE: following this guide will factory reset your phone so back up your data before hand.
Hi all, after having to do a fair bit of digging around last night in order to return my G7 to stock firmware i
figured i would make a all in one guide to make it a bit easier for people to follow!
First half of this guide is how to re-flash stock firmware:
1. Download LGUP here:Link
1.1 Download additional file we will need later: Link
1.2 Download stock KDZ file: Link
2. Install LGUP, after it has been installed extract the file from step 1.2 and place it here:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\common"
You will most likely have to create the common folder first and then place the file "LGUP_Common.dll" inside, this allows the LGUP software to recognise the device.
3. Next power down your device, once it is fully powered off hold the volume up key and insert the USB cable into your device
while continuing to hold volume up, continue to hold until your device enters download mode.
4. Open the LGUP software and drag the KDZ file into the file path section within the software, if your device is not showing
it means you dont have the correct drivers installed or haven't placed the .dll file from step 2 in the correct place.
5. Once the KDZ file is showing in LGUP simply click start and wait for the stock firmware to flash! Once it has completed
your device will reboot!
6. (Optional) download and install LG Bridge and check for any software updates after the flash has completed, OTA updates
can also be checked but in my experience it didnt show any updates where as LG Bridge did.
Second half of this guide will be how to re-lock the bootloader:
1. Download and install Android ADB + Fastboot drivers. The best guide I've found for this can be seen here:Link
2.Navigate to the folder where you have ADB and fastboot installed, usually this folder will be called platform tools.
hold shift and right click inside the folder then select "open powershell window here". Next make sure USB debugging is
enabled in developer settings and then head back to your powershell window and enter the following commands in order:
"adb reboot bootloader"
"fastboot oem lock"
"fastboot reboot"
3. Your phone will reboot and go through the usual first time start up, make sure to enable developer options again and
un-checking "OEM unlock". Your bootloader is now locked again!
If you followed the above steps you should now be back to complete stock! Enjoy

I think it's better to flash stock firmware first to avoid problems when relocking the bootloader, because locking the bootloader just erases /data and /cache, and if you have some modifications like root or twrp it could cause a bootloop.
What I do is first flash stock and then relock the bootloader, with that order you will prevent any problems after relocking.

You can always try! I would probably recommend sticking to the firmware from your carrier though just to be on the safe side. If worst comes to worst you can always use this guide again to re-flash your carrier specific firmware if you find you are having issues! Let me know how you get on if you do try or need any help

I have been reading a bit and apparently there are different modems used between carriers. I currently have an unlocked Tmobile device and was wanting to flash the unlocked firmware...just dont want to risk bricking the phone. The phone works ok with tmobile fw, just wanted to get rid of bloat since I am now using it on ATT prepaid. Can find no info where anyone has done this. I 've flashed several Galaxy phones (to diff f/w)recently and Moto G's a few years back and it worked great.

I know it's possible to flash the boot.img seperate, as I've done that already myself but I'm unsure about flashing a different modem. I imagine the process will be very similar to flashing the boot but I'd need to do some digging and find out exactly! Even if you could there's no guarantee that it would work. I'll do some digging and see what I can find and get back to you!

Assuming LG has made the same decisions for the G7 as they did for the V30, the answer is no.
At least on the V30 series, T-mobile variant can NOT be flashed to anything else because it has different RSA encryption keys from any other V30 phone. This is why back in May when we found the wonderful LG Oreo bootloader unlock exploit, every V30/V30+/V30S on the planet can now be bootloader unlocked and rooted -- EXCEPT for the the T-mobile H932. Because you need Oreo and you need (at least temporarily) fastboot flash commands.
So, all the carrier unlocked US998, European H930 and even the dual SIM H930DS (which have fastboot flash commands) can immediately be bootloader unlocked and rooted. For the others -- like the North American variants AT&T H931, Canadian H933, Verizon VS996, Sprint LS998 -- you first flash the carrier unlocked US998 firmware (aka Frankenstein) over those models to "convert" them to US998 to add back fastboot flash commands. We use dev patched LGUP. Then, after bootloader unlock and root, Sprint and Verizon users often flash back either all or part of their firmware to get back features or LTE bands (Sprint especially). They are still rooted, they still have TWRP. As a result of this, we suddenly now have tons of ROMs and custom kernels are under development.
But T-mobile H932 users are locked out of this development bonanza, because you can't cross flash anything without bricking the phone. I would assume the same for G7? T-mobile must have demanded this, because all the other North American V30 variants share the same RSA encryption keys which make cross flashing possible. If T-mobile demanded it for their V30, seems they would do the same for the next phone also.
Someone with a G7 came in to the V30 Frankenstein thread to ask if it works on G7, but that seems like something that should be discussed in this forum.

Ok what about flashing the European LMG710EM firmware onto the Sprint G7? Would i risk bricking my device? Im trying to find a solution to unlocking my sprint phone

did you try flashing G710EM firmware in the sprint g7? i also have a sprint variant and want to unlock it.
UPDATE: just tried to flash it but lg up doesnt even start flashing the kdz file, it gives "LAF WRITE PROTECTION" and "Cross flash is not supported" messages
luckily phone is working just fine with the original software, i mean it didnt bricked the phone since it didnt even started to flash.
in other post i saw a user that tried flashing tmobile firmware with lg v20 dll and bricked his sprint g7

I am getting same error. I have sprint LG g7. Trying to flash canadian AWM rom.

I followed this tutorial in my LG G7 variant model LM-G710EMW and works. Now, I'm downloading the specific firmware in lg-firmwares.com to install with this method.
I bought my LG G7 in Brazil, with CLARO mobile operator and now I have a LG G7 without bond. Thanks for this tutorial!

With this guide warranty come back?

You should make a post verifying the way you did it and giving proof of this happening. If you do it you will help a lot of people, and maybe it will help other variants to reach root.

Question about rooting tmobile version

My main goal in rooting is to be able to use the Swift Installer app to theme my phone. There's not much else I wanna do, but I also wanna be able to still get updates.
Im on the tmobile version 9.5.8 and all I want is continued access to updates and using Swoft Installer.
Do I HAVE to convert to international and everything? And if so, can someone link me the most current guide to everything and keep up to date? I already have my Sim unlocked so I'm ready, just wanna be 100% and there seems to be multiple guides that have different files etc.

You don't have to go to international, but if you do, you can get around needing a bootloader unlock from oneplus and a network unlock from tmobile n when you root, you can still have the latest updates but you have to manually install them.

Any chance on a step by step on updating after converting and rooting? The guides for converting to international and then rooting and setting up twrp are pretty straightforward.
But I can't really find a clear step by step on how to update and keep root and everything afterwards straight from the phone, without having to use a computer. Any link to an explanation for that?
And in your opinion would it be worth it to just convert to international? Keep in mind all I'm aware that is lost is voLTE and something else when you convert, but I don't even know what those do. So I have a feeling that I wouldn't miss anything

I believe there are currently guides out there to guide you on how updating after root, it's a relatively painless procedure! I think it's totally worth it to convert, I didn't really want to get an unlock code and I personally hate the boot animation for tmobile. I will say, I still have VOLTE so you may not even lose that. Anything else feel free to ask.

LM-V5000EM can it be rooted? Currently on Stock Android 11

Got them both in front of me right now and I VERY much prefer the V50, but can it be rooted so I can use Titanium backup and system app remover etc?
Just come from the V30 forums...gave that to my mother.

First of all, your title is wrong relating to model number.
If your bootloader is unlocked, then you should install Magisk app manager. Extract the boot.img from the firmware and have it patched in Magisk. Transfer the patched file to PC and flash it to the V50 boot partition using fastboot. That should make the phone rooted.
If you have problem in extracting the boot.img from the firmware, I can help you.

I am writing this after a cursory search through the V50 forums.

Once your bootloader is unlocked, you may try to follow the instructions in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...sk-root-using-firehose.4221793/#post-84336553
Namely, you want to try the instructions that follow the "Magisk Root" subtitle. That thread is for V50 models without an official bootloader unlock method, so the first part deals with unofficial bootloader unlock. Since your bootloader can easily be unlocked, you shouldn't follow the guide step-by-step. Rather, AFTER unlocking your bootloader, your goal is to:
1) Get your phone into fastboot
2) Take note of the active slot - _a or _b
3) Back up the corresponding boot partition - either boot_a or boot_b
4) Patch the correct boot image using Magisk Manager
5) Write the patched image back to the correct slot on the device
This is not a detailed step-by-step guide, but rather an outline of what you need to accomplish using the information from the guide I linked above. This is just an observation as I don't have this model, and have never performed the procedure in this order. I used this guide to unlock the bootloader on a Sprint V50 and it worked for me. Therefore, if you attempt this, make sure to back up everything you can. I personally would be very careful attempting this since the risk of failure is fairly high.
I could try writing out more detailed instructions but I find your entitlement to an answer to be off-putting. Either way, I wish you luck with this, if you attempt it.

Saw your reply after I had posted mine. I completely forgot European models have firmware files available. It'd definitely be easier to extract a boot image from a firmware file rather than trying to get it from the device using QFIL, so your approach is better. I guess having the Sprint version got me into a scarcity mindset.

After coming from the V30 and how easy that was to root - you have scared the crap outta me with all those steps.
Just soooo wish it was 100% definitely possible.
I don't want custom roms oranhything, I just miss, in Order
1: Titanium Backup
2:System appremover
3: Adblock, proper adblock like i had on my v30 ( sniff, cry)
4: TWRP
Heck, I'd PAY to get my V50 rooted ;-)

Hi, I am not the one doing it. It is one guy called "Remote Unlock Service". He is very knowledgeable and he could help with other issues too. I used him once when I bricked my phone. Rooting and unlocking bootloader is actually easy for the ones that know how to follow guides.

I HAVE unlocked the bootloADER...THAT WAS SIMPLE.

Flashing LineageOS for MicroG on 8T (T-Mobile Variant) purchased from OnePlus

Hello all!
Thanks for taking the time to click into this.
About me: I mostly see myself as a somewhat tech-savvy noob - I have rooted several devices in the past, flashed ROMs, etc.
New Device: OnePlus 8T T-Mobile Variant purchased from OnePlus.com
Condition: Brand New - never started the device
I would like to essentially imitate Calyx as described here.
=> install TWRP/Magisk + flash 'LineageOS for MicroG'
Questions:
1) Will I be able to unlock the bootloader given that this is the T-Mobile variant purchased from OnePlus?
2) Do I need to take additional steps because this phone is the T-Mobile variant?
3) basic question: I have never started the phone so it has no personal data - should I back up the current setup in case I need to return to OOS for any reason or can I track down the default OOS installation making that all unnecessary?
(I remember in the past default Samsung installations were easily tracked down and flashed using Odin).
4) Would you recommend any detailed instructions to go through the process of backup, installing custom recovery, accessing root privileges, flashing LineageOS for MicroG, etc?
(I feel like I am piecing parts together from different places and it's all not fitting together)

I am considering returning the phone and getting a different one that has more users on XDA to avoid having bizarre issues arise with the steps involved with the T-Mobile version of the 8T and being totally on my own.

yeah I dont see much help for Tmo version and I faced lots of issues just trying to get a brand new one recognized by my computer.

Based on your comment, I am leaning towards returning the phone.
I think I learn best through examples and may need a little support.
I am now wondering how I can figure out which phones have the largest 'community' on XDA.

I have the T-Mobile variant. There's more support and options available so don't be discouraged.
Normally, you have to be SIM unlocked before you can do anything else, like bootloader unlocking. If the phone is being paid for or financed and you haven't been a long time customer you may or may not get it SIM unlocked.
That said, I got mine SIM unlocked after contacting the T-Mobile Tforce people on Facebook. Then I saw this thread on Rebranding the T-Mobile variant.

Following it I changed the T-Mobile firmware to the European firmware. If nothing else you get more recent updates and a local update feature (full OTA updates can be downloaded and installed locally). As a result of the conversion I was able to simply fastboot unlock the bootloader without need for waiting for a code from OnePlus. The phone is now bootloader unlocked and rooted with Magisk.
Note that according to the OP, SIM unlock is not necessary for the conversion but you'll still need to be SIM unlocked to be able to unlock the bootloader.
Now that I'm "free" I now have the itch for a custom ROM. Over the years all of my devices run either with microG or just UnifiedNlp but no Google. I feel the need to do the same here. Currently I just have most Google apps disabled and using FOSS apps in their place but still...
Besides LineageOS for microG, the 8T also has Carbon ROM and crDroid. They historically have always had signature spoofing support so I assume they still do with Android 11. That means microG can be used.
Check the guides and ROM/Kernel threads for more info.
I don't know if I can get to trying anything this week but I hope to. I work at a drive-in movie theater and with Spider-Man coming out this week I'll be quite busy.

Following it I changed the T-Mobile firmware to the European firmware. If nothing else you get more recent updates and a local update feature (full OTA updates can be downloaded and installed locally). As a result of the conversion I was able to simply fastboot unlock the bootloader without need for waiting for a code from OnePlus. The phone is now bootloader unlocked and rooted with Magisk.
Note that according to the OP, SIM unlock is not necessary for the conversion but you'll still need to be SIM unlocked to be able to unlock the bootloader.
Now that I'm "free" I now have the itch for a custom ROM. Over the years all of my devices run either with microG or just UnifiedNlp but no Google. I feel the need to do the same here. Currently I just have most Google apps disabled and using FOSS apps in their place but still...
Besides LineageOS for microG, the 8T also has Carbon ROM and crDroid. They historically have always had signature spoofing support so I assume they still do with Android 11. That means microG can be used.

I don't know if I can get to trying anything this week but I hope to. I work at a drive-in movie theater and with Spider-Man coming out this week I'll be quite busy.

Help with rooting

Complete newbie here. I am trying to root my KB2007. I bought it on Amazon and after an update the Oxygen version is 11.0.13.13.KB05BA. I think I was able to get ADB figured out and the bootloader is now unlocked. I’ve looked at some guides and it seems like I will need a boot img that matches my phone to start rooting. I can’t seem to find this and my research has been telling me that the KB2007 is a T-mobile version that can have OEM unlocked can’t be done without a code even though I was able to without contacting T-mobile. Can anyone help me out or guide me on how to root my device?
