New to the Vision, how do you update it while root? - Motorola One Vision Questions & Answers

Hello there fellas!
I've recently become owner of the Moto One Vision, just finished installing Magisk & disabled encryption.
Coming form a Xiaomi, the process to update (OTA) involved switching partition and restoring original boot-img of previous version through Magisk, but how do you handle it on this device?
I've only found this comment, do you know if this way to update keeping root is still working? or is there another method?
Also (off-topic), do you know if there's any magisk module (or xposed framework) that lets you control the gesture dead zone area? I only want to activate the back gesture if I'm doing it on the lower half of the screen.
Thanks for the hand ^^
Regards!

Official LineageOS 14.1 Q&A thread

Use this thread for questions, help and anything else about LineageOS that does not belong to the ROM development itself, thank you.
FAQs
Does LineageOS support VoLTE? YES
If I install LineageOS will I lose MotoActions? We have our own implementation of MotoActions configurable under Settings -> Gestures, so the answer is No
Your ROM is unrooted, can I install SuperSU? We discourage SuperSU usage, flash our su package (arm) and then enable root access from Settings -> Developer options.
Hi @Alberto97, thanks a lot for your precious work for osprey. Just wanted to know whether dual sim is properly implemented in lineage OS? As posted by some users dual sim especially data switch is broken.

Data switch is not broken, simply when switching from wifi to mobile data sometimes you need a reboot to make mobile data working (it happened just twice here in months)

Thanks @Alberto97 for the prompt reply ! Could be coz of some other mod I had flashed ! Can I expect that in future builds ??
Excuse me, but what is the route to turn off led on charge? (Didn´t see this thread and post same question on original)
I've already figured it out. From the search option - enter (ba) - Battery light - turn off

is audio fx operational?
I can't see any difference in audio. If it is not working removal from the builds is a good option or not?

Hi I really appreciate your work. Although I would want to know if in future there will be an option to disable one SIM in dual SIM phones.
You have any idea how to disable single SIM?
Thanks

That feature generally relies on closed source qcom components though looks like motorola uses its own implementation. Additionally I have a single sim variant of osprey and I don't want to include anymore components that I can't test, I already did a big mistake with IMS/VoLTE support.
Are there problems with WiFi?
I have the (XT1543)
this rom have substratum support?
This may actually be a development question, but I'm going to err on the side of caution and post here first, then see if @Alberto97 thinks it's worth elevating to the dev thread.
I have an XT1540 2GB/16GB osprey on MetroPCS (T-Mobile MVNO reseller in the US), and I had successfully managed to get Pokemon Go working for several versions of the 7.1 releases.
Specifically using iSu by @bhb27 (thanks! ), which renames the su binaries when toggled on, and then puts them back when toggled off. No Xposed framework (I know, I know; don't even think about it near a CM development thread), no Magisk, no Chainfire or phh SuperSU... always making backups with Titanium Backup then restoring things one at a time (and re-doing system settings, not restoring) after a full wipe & clean flash. Using TWRP 3.0.2-r5 and a known-good MicroSD card.
Versions where I think it worked:
CM 14.1 (Dec 25 & 27 builds)
Lineage Unofficial (Jan 12, 13, & 14 builds - I know those were supposed to be for just the CDMA variant, but they also seemed to have the side effect of making the GPS and PoGo work again)
Versions where it hasn't worked:
LineageOS Unofficial (Jan 10 and before): Would NEVER get a GPS fix, no matter how long I left it running. GPS Status was able to get a location properly, even in device-only mode; it just wasn't passing through.
LineageOS Official (Jan 25): Gets a GPS fix, but seems to fail SafetyNet attestation, both with official root add-on from lineageos.org applied then hidden with iSu, and with a fresh install that doesn't even have the root add-on package installed.
Again, that's with internal storage/data/system/cache/dalvik/your mom all wiped and a clean install.
So, CM/LOS used to pass SafetyNet, at least well enough for Pokemon Go to successfully sign in with my Google account credentials, merely by renaming/deleting the su binaries. Now it doesn't. Is that due to how the add-on package applies root vs. how it was baked-in before? Any recommendations on what to try? I know it's not everyone's highest priority, but my wife & I enjoy playing when we go for a walk, so being able to continue doing a favorite activity on my favorite ROM is something I'd appreciate immensely.
Is there any way to record on 60fps like in Cm13?
If I flash this lineage rom using twrp , will I lose root access?? If yes, then how will I root again? Pls help... And what are the things which are not working in this rom..?

Yes if you flash lineage you will not have root access as the ROM does not have root built-in. You have to flash lineage provided root zip or SuperSU 2.79+ after flashing ROM+Gapps.

Xiaomi Mi A1 Android 8.0 Oreo FAQ / How to install the latest update for MI A1

Q: I haven't received the lastest security update, how can I get it?
A: Just wait. Updates may take up to two weeks to reach your smartphone.
Edit: there's now an official way to force install updates:
Download and install the latest version of Google Play Services - it's an official signed version, 12.2.17 (448-186052348) (12217448).
Check for updates - you'll receive an update immidiately.
Q: What's the current build number?
A: As of March 1, 2018, the current build is OPR1.170623.026.V9.5.4.0.ODHMIFA Security patch level: February 1, 2018. Kernel version: 3.18.66-perf-g90e3040 [email protected] #1 Mon Feb 26 11:58:45 WIB 2018
Q: Does Picture in picture mode work?
A: It does but only a few apps currently support it: e.g. VLC (it must(!) be enabled first in VLC settings), Google Chrome (for desktop mode), YouTube (YouTube red subscription is required), Google Maps (only in navigation mode) and WhatsApp (during a video call).
Q: What are the known bugs?
A: Check this topic.
Q: Where can I get a firmware image to flash offline (fastboot ROM)?
A: Check this page for updates.
Q: Are there EIS or Camera2API? Has low light camera performance been improved?
A: Sadly, both are still missing and low light camera performance is still horrible.
Q: How can I improve low light camera performance?
A: Root your phone, enable EIS/Camera2API, install Google Camera with HDR+.
Q: Can I use/install Google Camera with HDR+?
A: No. (Yes, if you're willing to root your phone and enable EIS/Camera2API).
Q: I've heard about Quick Charge in Oreo, is it indeed present?
A: No, this has been verified by many people, some of whom used multimeters.
Q: What about the Google Phone (dialer) and Google Messages apps?
A: They are now both stock straight from Google.
Update: The latest version of Google Phone is incompatible with the MI A1 for unknown reasons but it's Google who made this decision.
Q: How can I hide the X mark for mobile networks?
A: You can disable WiFi or you can install a substratum theme, "Hide X".
Q: My favourite app or game crashes under Oreo.
A: Factory reset your phone, install just this game/app - check if it crashes. If it does, contact its developer. If it doesn't then some other app or your settings have broken the app/game.
Q: How can I disable/hide/remove App is running in background notification?
It's a "feature" of Android 8. There are three methods to get rid of this nuisance.

No. If you install Magisk you will be able to receive and install OTA updates. You'll just have to reinstall Magisk after each update.

There is not fully working TWRP for Oreo as of now.
Magisk can be used by flashing patched boot.img, which already contains Magisk or follow a bit complicated TWRP guide.

You have to restore stock boot before OTA installation, currently that's possible probably only manually.

Oreo changed the encryption scheme, only the latest TWRP version or Oreo system supports it. Nougat system and older TWRP versions will have problems with decryption.

I tried flashing my phone with latest Nougat, both locked and unlocked bootloader. All fine and good, then I updated to Oreo on my partition B. Worked just fine but I cant boot into partition A as the encryption failed.
Not sure what I have to do on my phone.
Has anyone noticed this thing where if we open a slightly darker or dark image, the display boosts up the brightness in the dark areas ? Sort of like the sunlight display on some phones. I tried to record an instance but it doesn't show it clearly.

Is it just me or Has anyone else noticed it ? Is it something that's built-in or can I disable it ?
Ok so my A1 is rooted bootloader unlocked but for some reason the google camera is not working on this and it used to work on 7.1.2 i enabled HAL3 but still no result can anyone help me

What are you trying to do? Once you upgrade to Oreo, you can't safely boot Nougat system. Even if data wouldn't be encrypted, many apps would force close due to changes between these systems. If you want to downgrade, factory reset is probably inevitable.

There are still A/B partitions. Could you describe what are you trying to achieve? I simply don't understand why do you try to boot into Nougat once you have successfully upgraded to Oreo.

Magisk module https://www.dropbox.com/s/jvejynqlw5gz0l6/soundfix_test.zip?dl=0

Hi,
Can you tell me if it's working for you (and where is this from)? My phone is not rooted etc., but I can't stand this new poor audio on a pair of high impedance earphones.
Is it installed like a module from zip via recovery?

Install and flash Magisk and then install the module vía Magisk interface.
Magisk Is systemless so it's safe to use.
Cant tell if this module works since i still didnt update may patch but dont be afraid to try. I used this to root and install GoogleCam, no issues so far.
Just remember to follow the instructions before installing new OTAs!!
Thanks for the help! So installing this means no more OTA for me? Because I guess that any other update that comes out will bring back the crappy sound.
BTW is Google Cam a huge improvement?

Yup, you'll need to root and ofc use magisk (because this is magisk module) and you can't do OTAs, but for the sound that our device has, it's worth it.

Magisk does not prevent OTA updates, as long as you know what you are doing.
To wit: 0. disable automatic OTA updates, 1. leave the stock recovery alone (TWRP can be booted into without flashing), 2. make sure to check "systemless hosts" in Magisk Manager if you use AdAway or similar, so that you don't ever write to your actual /system partition, 3. leave your phone oem-unlocked (it's OK, /data is encrypted anyway), 4. when an OTA update is available, follow instructions (can't post a proper URL yet, sorry) at github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/blob/master/docs/tips.md

Work for me
Work fine! I love it
When I try to install it via Magisk Manager, it says it's not a magisk module. I don't have custom recovery to preserve OTA, can't it be flashed through magisk somehow?
Can someone confirm if this is working with the last 8.1 update? They improved audio a little bit compared to 8.0 but its nothing compared to the nougat ROM

Rooting phone and getting custom led control without losing OTA updates?

I bought Oneplus 6 and have been using it couple of days. There are basically two dealbreaker that can be fixed with other means. I was told blockada is best for blocking ads, but every dns which i tested blocked things I did not want to like whatsapp voice messages or was slow. Other dealbreaker is notification led. On normal rom battery led cannot be disabled which make it unusable for me because I charge phones on nights so I would need to way disable that, but keeping led on otherthings. I want to led turn green on whatsapp messages and red on missed phone calls etc.
So I need to root phone anyway and open bootloader which will wipe phone anyway so I am asking is there some way to get those two things without losing OTA updates? There was some magisk roms etc. I have never seen before. Could they handle these?
I dont have very good experienses with custom roms and before I bougth this I used Resurection Remix on Oneplus 3t and battery would not even last a day and there was stutter etc. First it was perfect, but did not take many weeks to get bad like all custom roms have allways done which I have tested.
EDIT: If I am correct ElementalX or blu_spark might do the job? Which one could be better? When OTA update comes what I need to do? Download that again and install? Does TWRP disappear on ota or stay on the phone?
I am asking because I soft bricked my old Oneplus 3t twice on updates even It should have been without issues, but that was because of stupid decryption. How can I avoid that this time?
Hey i might have a solution. So on my OP6 I am rooted with magisk, have an unlocked bootloader, running the latest stable pie, stock kernel, and using blu_spark TWRP recovery.
When a new OTA update comes out I update normally through the default settings app. It will tell you that you will lose root, but just ignore that for now. Install the update but DON'T RESTART yet.
After the update is installed, go to magisk, click install, and at the bottom there is an option for patching inactive slot after OTA. Click that, let it do its magic, then it will force you to restart. After the reboot you are now updated but get to keep your root with all your root modules and settings. I find this the best way to update.
Once rooted, enable "Systemless hosts" in Magisk's settings, install AdAway and update the hosts file. Voilà no ads.
The LED can be turned off completely by disabling Settings -> Display -> Blink ligth.

This is also what I do. However if you do so the OTA will override the custom recovery. There are also other ways of applying OTAs that will keep the custom recovery, if you want it. Look in the OP6 forums.

I dont want that. I want the Led to work, but the issue is that I dont want to have battery led , because I sleep in same room where I charge the phone. These Oneplus phones have been allways suffering the issue and I have been using custom roms to fix it, but this time I am looking for some other solutions.

Fingerprint back gesture on Oxygen OS 10.0.3

Dear Oneplus modding community!
I used to add a back gesture to my fingerprint sensor using apps from the Google play store combined with xposed framework up until oxygen 9.0.3, but since I updated to oos 10.0.3 none of these apps (non-xposed) seem to work anymore...
By the way, somebody stated it might work using xposed framework, but he also stated it's not safe to use yet, since it was constructed for android pie rather than q.. (people are reportedly getting stuck in bootloops etc..)
I am using Viper4Android as well (my device is rooted via magisk), so at the moment I don't think it's safe to install Xposed.
Has anybody figured out a working solution yet? Preferably without a permanent notification?
Thank you in advance.
