The last Android I owned was the HTC Evo LTE, as I recall you could reply to text messages from the lockscreen. I now have the N20 Ultra and I am not able to do this. Is this function no longer available or am I missing a setting somewhere?
Swipe down on the text notification to expand and there is a reply option. At least with Google Messages there is. Also I believe the lockscreen needs to be unsecured. So either having face unlock or smart lock.

Thank you. That actually works on Samsung messages as well. Yes, you do have to log in if locked.

This may have been asked before but I am awful at navigating the xda search. Basically, my question is: Is there a way to link text notifications with the Epic lock screen without using the default Messaging app?
Example: When I get a text while the phone is locked using default messaging app, I drag the lock down and the unlock takes me directly to my inbox.
Is there a way to do this same thing but using an app such as GoSMS, ChompSMS, or HandcentSMS instead of the default Messaging application?
If you know of a way, please let me know.
Thanks.
With handcent I just use the pop up, I have it set to private so it doesn't come on when the screen is locked, and when I unlock it its right there, not exactly my inbox but I can read and reply messages, works on any lock screen also.
I'm almost 100% sure someone has asked this before but no combination of terms pulls it up in search...
The basic question is this: why on some phones do the lock screens have items for sms/email as well as unlock and silent while other devices with the same lock screen don't?
I'm running a Samsung Galaxy S 4G and using the core Android lock screen (not the glass one that comes with the phone) and all I have is unlock and silent sliders but I've seen screenshots of other phones with sliders above them for sms and email.
Is this a device specific thing or something the device maker enables/disables or ...?

I have been using SMS Popup since the original G1, but they said with the switch over to Hangouts on the Nexus 5, there are some bugs that they are unable to work out. Is there a different app you guys are using that's working without any issues? I just want the message to popup and the ability to quick reply to it.

This isn't *exactly* what you're looking for, but check out DynamicNotifications. It makes it so when you get an email, or text, it shows message details on your lock screen and you can swipe to unlock and it'll go straight to the message. Hopefully it'll fill in the gap, as I've replaced SMS Popup with it since my Galaxy Nexus.....
I'll think about it, but at the moment, I don't have a lock screen enabled.

I second this, pure stock android messaging, extremely customizable, has popup that can be toggled, toggle it to turn on your screen, change MMS size, app icon, has status bar "Read" "Reply" options, best sms app I could ask for on this device.
I just picked up the AT&T version today. If I read, delete, or dismiss a notification on my watch (in this case SMS) it does NOT dismiss the notification on my phone. I'm using a Note 5.
Is this normal, a bug, or am I not seeing a setting? Thanks.

I edited out my long confusing post. Long story short, it was LightFlow conflicting with the Samsung SMS app. I switched to textra and I'm now able to respond to texts on the watch and clear the notification on the phone.
Thank you...I was having exactly the same problem and it was driving me crazy
Any way to reply from the lock screen with the stock messages app?

Haven't tried it but I'm pretty sure that you will need to disable hide sensitive data on lockscreen, maybe the possibly you could do that
I can find the setting to show notifications on the lock screen but nothing to reply from lock screen.
I haven't been able to find a way either. The ADB method doesn't work as well.

I was just about to post this lol. https://www.xda-developers.com/enab...ckscreen-on-galaxy-s7-s7-edge-running-nougat/
It works by default for me as long as I expand the notification. I use Textra now, but it worked with the default app as well.
Did you have your passcode or biometrics setup? When I expand the message on the lock screen it just prompts me to enter my passcode or scan iris.
I use Textra and can reply from the "normal" lockscreen but not from the Always on Display screen. I know that I used to be able to do this on my AT&T S7 Edge but can no longer do it on AOD on my AT&T S8+.
It works out of the box lol...just expand and you'll have 3 options call-mark as read-reply....
