Samsung DEX - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

May be late to the party but just found out DEX works wirelessly on laptops. Not too bad... Definitely latency issues but it works. Thought it was only for TVs

Isn't it a good thing, no? Look, Ma, no wires!
The Your Phone App is nifty too.

I absolutely love it... Decluttered my desk... Well no longer have to use the tab s 5e for dex to the tv. Now it seems everything comes from the phone now. All about eliminating stuff I need to relax.

Only thing is netflix just doesn't seem to work well

Guys, could you extract and send me the lastest APK in private please ?
Since it can handle the display wirelesssly, I'd like to try it on my Note 10 lite (with no USB-3, e.g no HDMI out).

Hi GDHAMTON7,
Good evening.
I have two questions (maybe you can shed some light on)
- What app are you using on the laptop side? DEX "PC" app doesn't work wireless for me. Are you using "Connect" app? Other?
- If you are using "Connect" or other app on the PC, can you interact with the DEX screen using your Laptop (PC) mouse and keyboard? I can only use Keyboard for a few minutes, and mouse only "Bluetooth" if connected directly to the Phone itself.
I Can only do it, using the Host PC mouse and keyboard on the "wired" DEX app, or using (less complete experience) "wireless" YOURPHONE app (that crashes a lot and requires a "reset" to function again).
So currently wireless DEX (for me) is only valid on TV connections.
PC's only wired...
Thanks.
Regards.

I am just using the dex app. I posted instructions on how to get it on the laptop. No additional apps needed.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.
Okay upon going thru the post history I saw it (post 10), but that uses\calls "Connect" app, not the Samsung DEX app (which states it requires Wired USB connection).
And the same (only PC keyboard is allowed, not Mouse), if we want any mouse control we must either connect a mouse directly to the phone, or use the phone itself as a mouse trackpad.
I think this is a Windows limitation, because while using the same "Wireless DEX" feature on 3 different TV's:
Sony (Android)
LG (WebOS)
Samsung
I'm able to control the touch/mouse within DEX, using any TV built in Air mouse, no issues at all.
Are you able to use your Mobile PC mouse on the "Projection" image coming from (Phone) DEX to the PC (Connect)?
Thanks again,
Regards,

I am... I have a Lenovo legion y530... With graphics card. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Your PC and Note 20 should be connected to the same WiFi. I can use both my wireless mouse (MX Master 2S) and my logitech keyboard, if it helps.

Xoom screen on PC

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there is anyway yet to view the Xoom screen on PC..
Something like this...
I did search the forums but couldnt find anything..
Thanks,
Abhinay
What you could probably use is a VNC server on your device and then connect to it via a VNC Viewer on your PC.
Something like this should work: https://market.android.com/details?id=org.onaips.vnc&feature=search_result
Thanks.. i will try n let u know
Cant this be done without rooting?
Try connecting to the HDMI pc port. Every modern gfx card has one. After that just select on your tv HDMI as source

You could just use android screencast. I normally just use it for my cell phone, but I connected my xoom to it and it works with that too. You need to have the android sdk installed and the xoom has to be detected by adb first before it will work. The keyboard works, but I haven't been able to get mouse control to work with the xoom. The menu buttons in screencast work though.
It's a little slow, but it's free and works for giving control through the PC. There is also an app called WebKey that you can get from the market, but you have to have a rooted device.

You have to turn on USB Debugging first, goto Settings -> Applications and then there should be a USB Debugging option under there.

Can i use my TF101 as a monitor with my Windows 7 laptop?

Can the TF101 become a second monitor to my windows 7 laptop?
Can it also connect to a data projector to show slides for presentations?
1. No - AFAIK nobody was able to do that.
2. If the projector has HDMI input yes.

Yes, your Transformer CAN become a second monitor for your laptop. You need an app called iDisplay. Basically, it will allow you to use your Transformer an a second monitor via wifi (screen updates are done via wifi). Not the fastest, but unless you are working on animations or games, you should be fine. I've used it and it does what it's supposed to!
I've also done this for free using ZoneScreen with VNC

Thanx, wll test it tonight

might be a simple fix

ok so i just got mk808 android stick.
came home plugged it into my tv via hdmi - mini hdmi adaptor
plugged in the usb power to a 5v - 2amp charger from my nexus 7
the screen on my tv switched over to hdmi 1 blue screen,.......and thats all
i dont have a clue what ido to start it up or anything?
i got a mele air mouse 10 thrown in the deal too which is working on my tab but yeah how do i start up this thing? the blue light comes on and the tv switched to hdmi but thats all.
The MK808 has a blue light that has to be on when powered and blinking when streaming from the net. It shoud boot up by itself after you plug it in.
Check to see that your TV is set to the right HDMI input.
I have mine on HDMI 1. Make sure that yours matches your MK808 HDMI input.
Other than that, try another TV.....

thanks for your reply i managed to get it working today with a new usb cable now happily using but trying to find a way to switch it of from remote,. "air mouse f10"
If yours is rooted, install "Rom Toolbox" that it have a widget called "Reboot".
Clicking that will give you all the settings ....
To reboot: instead of the full ROM Toolbox, which BTW is a great app, try Reboot Menu (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wxLDIxMiwib3JnLnJpY2VrbmlnaHQuZ3MycmVib290Il0). That's all it does, it gives you reboot options (you must be rooted).
got the power menu app cheers
anyone had any experience getting another tablet to work as touchpad?
Try MK 802 lll remote app. Works on a lot of these.

You don't want to just just "pull the plug" (or flip the switch) on the unit, it could cause filesystem corruption....

Problem between a Wireless keyboard and Tronsmart MK908II touch response

Hello,
The device is Tronsmart MK908II, wireless keyboard is this: http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6271301163.html
The problem is that there is a lag between the keyboard commands and the response of the device. For example as you wiggle your finger on the touchpad on the keyboard, cursor on the TV screen does not reflect correctly and on time, and the same with keystrokes. Especially if the distance between me and the TV stick is more than one meter is almost impossible to perceive commands.
At first I thought it was the keyboard, but after I connected it to the computer, I saw that it works absolutely perfectly, even from a distance of 5-6 meters, there is no delay when you press buttons. Unfortunately, not so with the tv stic... Pls tell me what to do ??? The device has the last Android 4.2.2 version, there is no newest at the moment. Does it need to install a program to respond better wireless keyboards? The keyboard come without software, just plug and play.
Help pls!
Keyboards are a drama! I use droidmote to control my sticks via tablet or phone. The stick needs to be rooted and you install a serverapp on it which you connect to via Wi-Fi from your client app on your other devices. Once working I ditch my keyboard.

I fixed the problem! I use a different port on the device, which is micro USB. Use transitions and include in it the keypad transmitter. Apparently the standard USB does not have enough power to supply it correctly.
Nice catch! Thanks for the update

Question Problem with camera app in dex mode.

Hello, I often use Samsung Dex with my s22ultra (using wifi). The problem is with the "Camera" app. It is very limited, no zoom, no resolution options. Anyone have a solution? Maybe some other video app?
Are you using the front or back camera? The front (selfie) camera doesn't zoom, nor can you change the resolution.
I try use back camera... and i cant zoom or change anything options.
What is your setup? How are you connecting to the monitor/TV, and how are you controlling your phone? Wired? Wireless? Are you using a keyboard and mouse?
To my knowledge, you can't display DeX on your phone itself, it has to be connected to an external display like a TV or monitor.

Ok. I presume you are using the Samsung DeX app on your laptop and that your laptop is a Windows machine.
I will try it today. I expect that I will get the same results.
To be honest, I don't think there are any other camera/video apps that would do what you want while in DeX. At least not any that would work with the phone's cameras. DeX was not really designed to be used in that way. It was intended to be a laptop/desktop replacement solution.
Why are you needing to be able to have back camera control while using DeX? Just curious.

Ok. So I have the same limitation. When I run the camera app from DeX I can only switch between front and back cameras. No zoom control.
However, if I connect via Link to Windows and then control the phone from Phone Link, I have complete control of the camera. I connected using Phone Link wirelessly.
So, if you want complete control of your phone from your laptop, connect your phone via Link to Windows and then use Phone Link to control it.
