Custom rom with good battery life? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

I have a GM1913
Looking for an Android 10 based custom rom that has particularly good standby/SoT. It needs to be stable and relatively bug-free to be used as a daily driver
Nice to have:
> Gapps not preinstalled
> Launcher that has removable search bar
> NOT preinstalled with a lot of custom apps
I dont care about:
> Updates
> Performance (as long as its not slower than stock)
> Super extensive customization options
I appreciate all suggestions, but PLEASE provide complete information like any custom kernals and apps you are using that does not come pre-applied with said custom rom. I am looking for good standby/SoT that is directly attributable to the rom and not what has to be done after installing the rom.
Thanks

try carbon rom

You get nothing like stock SOT on custom roms. Use search feature since ur nitpicky and try different roms urself. It's a much better/fun experience than you making a thread about asking since ur learning on the way. Usage is different from person to person, also everyone have different taste. You can't find the perfect one until you tried them all. Since I have already been a little hard on you I'm going to answer your question my way. If I would use anything other than stock on this phone these days it would be EvolutionX for decent performance and enough features to make it stand out from other. Pixel Experience for the maximum Pixel-feeling if I just want to feel relaxed and at the same time do unrooted. Otherwise stock it is, you will go back sometime later, since it just can't be beaten. Good luck.

I get 9-12 SOT with RR and Havoc roms and perfect standby. I can leave phone off charger at night and loose only 1% or less of battery

I second Ressurection remix. It's the 1st custom rom I've flashed. Battery life seems to be on par with stock oos imo.

Ice Bear gets the exact same SOT on RR @1440p forced 90hz and the same standby drain of 1% overnight. The OnePlus 7 Pro also stays very cool compared to on OOS 10. Such a feat was possible on OOS 9.

ROMs and battery life?

I don't want this to turn into a "my ROM is better" thread by any means... but as a newer ROM flasher, I was wondering how much difference a different ROM would have on battery life? I'm lucky to make it 8 hours on my Skyrocket right now even idling... and while I like the ROM I'm on now (Embryo), it's almost unusable as a device this way for me.
Thoughts?
ROMs definitely have an effect on your battery life, as they govern what's running in the background and how the system operates. Some ROMs are optimized for battery life, and some are optimized for performance. The OP and ROM thread will usually tell you which is which.
That said, if you're only getting 8 hours of battery life on Embryo 5, there's something else going on. Check the link in my signature for information on hunting down and wiping out wakelocks, and consider underclocking/undervolting and changing the governor.

you should check out the battery life help thread as it has almost every possible detail of enhance your phone battery performance. when im running embryo i always get around 22 hr with 2 hrs on screen so there something your missing. and every rom with have different battery performance not all because of the tweaks and rom enhancers but because of the user. a person who is surfing the web all day with little phone and text will easily drain battery. but a person who mainly running music social browsing talk text can easily get longer battery life.
No offense man but if embryo's rom is considered "unusable" then use another rom

[Q] ROM Battery life?

i've tried serval different roms both jelly bean and ics, just wondering which rom has given the best battery life with screen on? i just read a post where a user got a 6hr screen on time which blew my mind, and would love to know the rom you guys have had the best battery life with.

heh... yeah, 'cause a screenshot isn't hard to photochop.
Honestly, everyone's battery life is going to differ depending on the apps installed, background processes, number of accounts they sync, etc. I've had decent battery life on CleanROM in general, but I couldn't tell you how it compares to AOSP with the screen on. My screen time usually only accounts for ~25% of time.
Not that I have much experience, but there are kernels out there that can help increase battery life. Indirectly of course.
Then, there's always this handy thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1969741
It seems that there are just too many variables to do a just comparison between the ROMs. However, the link provided above^ is a great way to help increase the battery life overall! I find it easy to just turn off mobile data when i'm not using it, and when i want to search the web etc. just flip it back on!

New user - Kernel on Stock CM

Howdy folks,
New OnePlus One user, coming from a Galaxy S3 after years of holding out on an upgrade.
Looking to keep the phone reasonably stock for now (although some of those custom ROMs sure look tempting!) so I've decided to stick with CM12 (which is what I believe it came loaded with) until the OTA to CM13.
But I'm finding the battery life a bit tough to swallow - I'm getting about 60-80 minutes SOT with a total battery life of about 8-9 hours (email checks, browsing the web 3-4 times a day, one GPS check daily) before I hit 5%. Ideally I'd like to have 100-120 minutes SOT with a total battery life of 16-18 hours before I have to charge.
So I'm thinking an underclocked kernel may be the way to go. Problem is - I'm not sure which kernel is even compatible with CM12 at this point, or what would fit my needs, as everyone seems to have moved on to CM13 already, and I'll be honest with you all - I feel lost.
Can anyone suggest a path to better battery life through kernel?
Thanks in advance!
Go back to CM11S. 8 hours sot on Wi-Fi, slightly less on mobile data. No new features are worth the crippled battery life. All roms after 4.4, both custom and official are plagued by the mobile radio active bug and it hasn't been fixed yet. So stick to 4.4 stock and you will get mind-numbing battery life.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm looking to try an underclocked kernel first on CM12 before I downgrade. Besides, with CM13 around the corner that should help with battery life, no?

underclocking doest do anything when the phone itself doesnt sleep. I'm on CM13 nightlies and doze doesnt work half the time, the other half battery drain is just insane from all kinds of sources (Cyanogen System and mobile radio active). I've had this phone for a year and a half now and I've tried all the roms and kernels one can try but nothing so far has come even close to any 4.4 rom. Again, if you want the newest features and don't give a damn about battery life over extended periods, if you don't spent more than 4~ hours per day staring into your phone, if you charge daily, go for any rom you want. If you want a dependable phone that could keep you going for even 4~ days on a single charge with moderate usage (messages, light browsing, bit of gps) then go for a 4.4 rom. Preferably stock CM11S.

Okay, thank you for your input. Doesn't really answer what I'm looking for, but I guess I'll keep it in mind.
Update - decided to stray from stock and loaded Sultan's CM12 ROM - currently have 3.5 hours SOT and 20 hours total with 40% left. That's good for me!

Nexus 5 - revival

I used Nexus 5 from 2013 until S8 was released. I got the S8 from Samsung but kept N5 as backup.
Now I am planning to sell S8 at a loss to cover up other expenses.
Here are my issues
1) I used the Nexus 5 completely stock (No, I am not light hearted, i was doing way too much mod on previous android/apple, but cut all those fun to concentrate on other things in life)
2) Now the battery is pretty bad on N5 (lets just say i get 1.5 hour on screen or 12 hours of battery life or 2 hours of talk time before I need charge)
What I need your help
1) Need a rom/kernel (just point me the thread), which is stable and good in battery. I dont do games, very little youtube, lots of web browsing
2) Need a battery (all i see in amazon has mixed reviews)
3) I think i used Titanium or some thing for recovery or backup, if you can point me to the one which just works it would be great.
All I need is a reliable phone to talk, browse and light video watch. No fancy pants on latest android is needed.
If stock is what you are suggesting, I am okay with that too (I am not sure if there are app dependency on OS versions). Its been 4 years I am out of any technical stuff I used to play with. So please go easy.
I know its almost 5 yo device, but any help is appreciated.
If you want something thing that works all the time stick with stock if not go with 7.1.2 with elemental X kernel and as for battery try replacebase.com they do good parts and battery's and I used them myself when I had the Nexus 4.on stock I get 3 to 4 hours from full charge to flat on custom setup I average the same so the preference is up to you
I've seen a couple posts about this on nexus5 subreddit, and most of the highly upvoted posts were for official LineageOS 14.1, Opengapps, and elementalx kernel
Personally I've used EucOS and dark ROM but if you want absolute reliability I'd go with the above
Coming back from the S8 to the N5 must hurt a bit, though
Btw this really should be in the Q&A forum...

OOS or Custom rom for battery?

I have been using the OP6 for a while and tbh OOS is great (I use it with RZ Kernel and a few Magisk audio mods)
But everytime I update the phone, I got some kind of soft brick and every time I need to use MSMdownload to fix, tried how others update and still got the problem. Updating to 9.0.6 and still have that problem so I'm thinking about going the custom ROM route.
My main concern is battery life (and preferably OOS camera too cuz I need the Pro mode) and stable enough to be a daily driver. As for the battery, I'm getting estimated 6hr30m SOT average for 100% calculated base on the SOT of 60% drain and Accubattery give me 2870mAh (87%) for battery capacity (I know it may have been proven to be inaccurate but I want to give as much info as I can)
I hope anyone can give me the combo you are using and your SOT (I do understand that it's based on the how you use the phone) and whether you game or not. Or at least how to update without bricking my phone cause this A/B system is driving me mad.
Currently considering Havoc, Syberian, Treskmod/Omni but can't test them all cause I need a stable phone to work everyday.
Thanks a ton!
With oos i always had SOT 4 hours/4:30 (gaming, whatsapp, youtube, twitter, klwp etc) stock rom, stock kernel (don't know how but there's people that can reach 8 hours SOT), standby till 2 days (no usage)
Now i'm with havoc from two months and the battery is giving me same SOT and same standby but i'm with havoc and blue_spark kernel and i'm decrypted (don't think this last one is really influencing over battery), havoc is the best rom you will ever find here for this phone, it's super stable and super fast but not with its stock kernel so try smurf or blue spark. I've even tried so many other roms (aospExtended, lineageos, pixel experience, omnirom, liquidremix, aosip, carbonrom) but none of this it's better than havoc in my opinion.
