So I'm in China where the Chinese model is about to come out, and I wanna get it, except I'm concerned that I would be unable to use google software (namely google play, maps, email, and syncing contacts). I recall some Chinese phones won't allow google services to be installed, rendering all those things useless, even with a VPN. Anyone know if the Chinese version can support the installation of google apps?
Likewise, I read in one of the threads here that the CN version might be rootable. Is there any way to confirm this, or has it been confirmed?
And finally, does it have a ton of Chinese apps pre-installed and somewhat burnt into the OS, so they can't be uninstalled?
I know some people already have it, as there are a lot of reviews of it online, but none of them address those questions. Any help? Thanks!
Chinese version will not have locked bootloader, it will be rootable. On the other hand, you are going to void your warranty for unlocking bootloader.
For Google play services, it's all included in Chinese variant. You don't need to worry about it.
Finally for the Chinese bloatwares, I believe you can uninstall them due to some Chinese regulations... If not, I believe you can flash HK rom on it to get rid of Chinese only features.
great

Wow for sure? Out of curiosity, do you have this phone already? I believe ya and all, just curious how you can know for sure. I'm just kinda shocked to think that the Chinese version of the phone would ALREADY include google services - I can't think of any phone I've ever had all these years (I've lived in China for about 20 years) that included google services. That's amazing. Thanks a ton!

Okay. Due to Chinese regulation, phone manufacturers are not allowed to put carrier lock on phones in China. Therefore, Samsung has never locked BL on Chinese and HK variant. Also, Samsung has Google services baked into all Chinese firmwares, you only need to install Google Play manually to use it. You can check how they are using Google Play on Chinese Galaxy S20 series. As I said, the last thing you can do is to flash HK firmware on your phone as they have exactly the same hardware, it comes with everything without Chinese specific features.

You're my hero mate. I know that's a bit overkill, but just excited at the good news, as I already pre-ordered. Might I add a follow up question? What kind of "Chinese specific features" might there be? Apps like WeChat, AliPay, Didi, DouYin, KuaiShou, TouTiao, Youku, WeiBo, BiliBili, etc, are these not also popular in HK? If ya don't know, no worries, you've still made me a happy camper, and thanks again~

Bt the time I used samsung last time (galaxy s8), Chinese rom has those extra features that helps you to manage start up items, or background items. Oh also you can only use samsung pay in China with chinese rom. Hk people won't use chinese social medias cuz they have twitter, facebook, whatsapp...

In that case, I would definitely prefer the HK version. Can't stand Chinese social media, nor do I use samsung pay - come to think of it, i've NEVER seen that in China mainland. I'll prolly switch to HK version once it's out - and safe to do so. Again, thanks a bunch!

I ordered a GEM-703L from a UK seller today. More expensive than the GEM-701L that's been advertised on Amazon for months but I just didn't want to wait any longer.
Also I have my doubts whether the GEM-701L will be available in the 3G/32GB gold version.
And lastly ROM development for the GEM-703L will be ahead of the GEM-701L.

How are you liking the X2? THe 703-L is the Chinese version, I believe (Honor X2)? Or is it configured for the European market (Google Play installed, default language is not Mandarin, etc.?)
So far so good although I am still waiting for the unlock code from Huawei.
My X2 came with Google Play pre-installed and English language.
I did a factory reset and then I could choose whatever language I required. Google Play disappeared but can easily be installed through the Huawei app store app.

Thanks for the feedback. Couple of questions for you:
Does the back of the device say "Huawei" or "Honor"? I've seen different versions and I'm not sure what the difference is.
Also, was the phone not unlocked when you received it? It won't work with your local SIM without getting a code from Huawei?
Would it be possible for you to take some screenshots of the web browser in portrait and landscape mode, for us to get an idea of how different the screen real estate is compared to normal-sized phones? A screenshot of something like GMail or MS Word would be great too, if possible.
The back of the phone says Honor.
The phone is SIM unlocked. I meant the code for unlocking the bootloader.
I don't use the stock browser but Chrome.
There is a setting called Application Display effect where you can force apps to shrink. You can set this globally or per app.
For example if you enable this for Flipboard it will open in tablet mode.

Honor is just the name used for the Mediapad X2 in China. So if you have a version with Honor on the back, its the "Chinese" ( 03 ) version. From technical specs the only real difference between the 3 version is a differences in the LTE frequency support.

The code that people are requesting is the ability to access the bootloader so they can run custom roms on it. In simple terms Huawei sends you the ability to root the entire device so you can run anything you want on it. Unlike plenty of other phone's where you need to do tricks or use bugs to get complete access.

A quick way to compare is to look up the X1, where there are more examples out from. The X2 is technically just a X1 with a upgraded SOC. All the other components are the same. The upgrade fixes the only negative thing about the X1 ( the "slow(er)" and outdated A9 cores ).
For comparing to other phone's use this tool:
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/si...iaPad-X1,Sony-Xperia-Z-Ultra/phones/8427,7883
Try the "VIEW LAYERED" option at the bottom to compare screen sizes.
If you want i can post tomorrow or Friday a few pictures comparing the Sony Z Ultra vs the X2. My X2 is going to be delivered tomorrow and i still have my ZU for a few more days.

hello,
these roms are not customized, these are original from Huawei.
as I know root is still not possible on HW2.
the purpose to have these roms here is to help owners of chinese watches to change into international (global) rom so that everyone can have all languages and not only chinese.
of course international roms are equipped with google stuff, chinese one no.
regards
thanks for the heads up, i ordered my watch and it would appear it is coming from hong kong. i am hoping that it is international version and not chinese as it is from a uk web site
I recently bought a vivo nex s from eBay it’s the Chinese version. I love the phone but noticed I can’t update my apps that I download off the play store. Should I sell it on eBay and just get the global or keep the China version and use APK mirror
I heard the app situation you're experiencing is due to the last update Vivo released.
Us with international models are not experiencing this as that update hasn't rolled out to us yet.
One solution is to download Aptoid and use that for application download and updates.
Under any circumstance i would opt for the international version if I were you.

Is the phone preopened for inspection?
I have the Chinese vivo nex that I ordered from tradingshenzen, and I already set it up that everything works, and all Chinese crap is to a minimum. However there's a rumor that the global version has better hardware like better fingerprint sensor, is that true? Is it recommended to switch to global or not. Here is how mine looks like btw https://youtu.be/uhoxGY7MGUY
Is the Global version of the vivo nex s the international version
I recently just purchased a Vivo nex S on gear best and the description says it's the Global version or Global rom is that considered the international version?!?!

Yes because when you push the button on the left hand side it opens google lens by default instead of jovy (chinese assistant)
is there any possibility to know it´s global or chinese version without opening the packging?
or better say: how can i say it´s global version without turning the phone on. is it possible to see it via serial number, or included accesoires? the packaging?
Gearbest's global version is the global version. I have it, I know.
Get it too, it's a wonderful phone.

Yes, not a single Chinese character on this phone since I have it. I installed everything I need and did all the settings I wish. I even didn't bother to uninstall anything with adb, because there's nothing to bother about.

That sounds great,
Interested in buying it but I wasn't unsure about the whole DRM L1 thing where you're unable to play protected content such as Netflix, Amazon on Full HD and only plays at SD or 500p. Wanted your input on that also does the global version come with NFC? willing to sacrifice the NFC so not really a problem.

I dont believe there is any hardware difference just maybe 1 let band difference. Chinese model will get updates quicker as the main base is in China so there update that model first . Google pay etc worked fine on my Honor note 10 which came out in August, call it the smaller brother which has no global ROM .
I personally prefer Chinese model , can delete most Chinese apps fine , yes some will remain and some Chinese characters in certain parts but still prefer Chinese model

I haven't been around here much since back when we goofed around with the Mi Mix (recall I sent you one I got so you could work on it since you didn't have one). Anyways, really glad to see what you have done with FunkyHuawei and all - impressive you turned your hobby in to a business so congrats.
I am curious about buying the global from your site. I am very likely to pull the trigger for one of these soon, haven't had a Chinese phone since my Mi Mix and Mate 9 (sold the Mi Mix ultimately for being to rough around the edges in terms of software and the mid range camera but kept the Mate 9 and was pretty happy with it for a while with no real issues once setup properly). Can you give us a summary of the finer points you see as advantages to getting a global from FunkyHuawei verse just getting a Chinese version with Play store already installed?
P.S. Anyone looking for a great unlocked Note 9 with bunch of accessories and whatnot send me PM.

The Chinese version uses various Chinese services instead of Google Services, and some of those can't be changed. For example, for location services. For the default voice assistant. And so on.
I've heard that OK Google doesn't work on the Chinese version, while you can use it to unlock the phone on the international version, and so on.
I had thought that Chinese version wouldn't pass Safetynet, but I'm not sure. I've also heard that the Chinese version doesn't allow you to change the default launcher. The dual app feature supports whatsapp and facebook on the global version, but wechat and chinese apps on the Chinese version, and so on.
If you don't live in China, getting the global version will work out better for most people.

Certain google things can be installed on the Chinese model. But google is baked into the non-Chinese model. So things like OK Google (to wake up the phone), google assistant as default, Google used as location provider, and so on, will be available only on the international model.

Hi All,
My company is enforcing Android Work Profile (AWP) where all work related apps and resources (Outlook, Microsoft Authenticator, Teams, OneDrive, etc) will be separated from the other apps.
With that being said, I have to install Microsoft Company Portal Application to do that. As soon as I start configuring the AWP on my Huawei Mate 30 5G, it checks for the certification of the Play Store which will definitely fail on my mobile because I have manually installed the Google Play Store although I did not get this notification before when Play Store was installed manually.
Will this AWP thing work with the hack that we use to install google play store manually?
appreciate your input
Hi, we use intune forced work profile but even with the GMS hack working, it would not complete the installation of AWP and eventually had to give up. It was the main reason I changed to a Mi 10 Ultra. Such a shame as my P40 Pro plus is, was, a beautiful phone.

for me if I go through the installation of AWP through the company portal, this apparently checks if the play store is certified or not, and then when it detects it is not certified , i start getting the certification error from the google play store and the company portal fails to complete the installation of AWP.
I am planning to move away as well from Huawei if there is no fix for this.
There will be no resolution, USA are not going to allow Huawei to access Google framework apps for sometime and now Huawei have spent so much money on their own OS, they are not going backwards. Unless Microsoft have worked with the new OS, then there is not going to anything we can do.
It is a shame these phones are superb but if you can't use GMS or unlock the bootloader, then there will not be any custom ROMs or development for them, so it's no good for me. I'm one of the people who need GMS for work like you, so with regret it was bye bye Huawei, hello Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and the super EU ROM. Full GMS and of course, a full working, see screenshot attached. Good luck my friend.

Isn't Mi 10 ultra is just for China market? How did you get the GMS installed on it?
Yes, but there is a great community who transcribe the ROMs to an EU version for all Xiaomi mi and Redmi phones. Xiaomi are great in that they encourage custom ROMs and unlocking of bootloaders ( all though it has to be done through their servers and it makes you wait 168 hours between request and unlocking).
Mi10 Ultra is lacking a couple of European LTE radio bands like band 20 which I use for O2 but I don't miss it, 3G is just as fast as 4G where I live but my 3G is still good to watch streaming services as most are now using 4G. I bought mine from Wondamobile who put a smaller version of GMS on and it works well but once you flash the EU ROM, you get official GMS. And as the USA have no issues with Xiaomi, there is not much chance of any restrictions coming to them.
