Because high power charging degrades battery life too fast..so they use lower wattage variable charging.

It's more because you gain less than 10 minutes in comparison to the charger they provide by default.

Yeap. The gain is slight.
As long as fast charging is enabled, and a cable that supports fart charging is used, the 25 watt brick charges very fast.
Especially if you use it for quick boosts say in the 40-62% range which Li's love. My 10+ charges at 2% a minute through that range and that yields 2-3 hours of SOT.
Take a 10 min break and hundreds more cycles of battery life.

I have tried higher amp chargers on other phones and it charges them faster but the charge also drops faster.
It doesn't happen on the s6 ofc, the s6 has special hardware and fast charging capable chargers for it, it isn't just a higher amp charger

I don't know if it's 4 hours, probably is. All I know is it is very fast and 10 minutes gives it a great shot in the arm.
The fast charge spec can charge at 5v like normal USB, or 9, 12, or 20v
It'd be dc-dc converted in the phone to charge the 3.8v cell but at a higher current than if it were only converting 5v
The charger with it looks to only do 9v, my moto charger does 12 and I have a cheapo that claims 20v but I've not owned a phone that would negotiate that high yet.

Hello.
Can someone explain me how on earth does fart charging works on this device?
I've tried the included cable and charger, third party chargers and i don't see any fast charging going on?!? or any indication on screen that it's happening.
I've read somewhere that you need a special cable to use with the included charger (?!?!) is this true? where do you get this cable?
Phone is amazing but the charging part is really is really weird if you ask me.

it doesnt show any fast charging message, so i wouldnt rely on such a message to make sure its working. just use the included cable and charger and ull be fine it takes about 2.5 hours to charge from 0-100% via fastcharge

Yeah ...That's why I asked. I plugged a meter to the charger and never saw it go more than 5v 2a.
I think it needs a special cable for the 9v but I can't find any info.
2.5h is not fast charge. My old s6 edge plus used to take around 70-80 m from 5-100% if if you put the remaining 1000mah shouldn't take that long lol

calculate for yourself: original huawei charger is rated at 9V 2A, thats 18W total. 2A is 2000 mA. mate 8 battery is 4000 mAh.
best case scenario: 4000 mAh / 2000 mA = 2h
now add to that the extra time it needs to charge from 85-100%, because at 85% it automatically slows down charging to prolong the health of the battery and youre at the 2.5h FAST CHARGING time

I will make a full test from 0 to 100. I only charged from 40 to 100 and it took way more than 2 hours... that's why i asked if any special cable was needed. And as i told i mesured the charging rate coming out of the charger and never passed the 5V.
As for non Believing. It's REALLY pisses me off when people write that crap. Why would I lie? what would i gain from it? I sold the phone because i wasn't happy with it.... On the contrary and in case you don't know most sites like the ones you post are PAID to give positive reviews.
I checked with including charger and cable and the app Ampére and it charged with 2800mah. So, in ideaal situation it means a charging time of a proximity 1h and 26min. That means "fast charging". At least in my opinion. ?

that doesnt make sense what ure saying because in this case the site actually stated a HIGHER amount of minutes that it would take the s6 edge plus to fully charge from 0-100% so what now, theyre getting paid to write negative reviews as well?
also, no, ure not "gaining" anything from that, but people tend to exaggerate a lot, do a quick "drive by" in a thread and post random statements based on non-correctly remembered experiences and this is exactly how false statements are converted into "truths / facts". read my post and tell me where exactly i listed anything wrong. check various reviews on the mate 8, they all stare the same thing: about 2.5h for a full charge, give or take 10-20 min. it also compares perfectly with the charging time of the s6 edge+ in terms of mAh/min, and in fact these two phones are indeed VERY close, mate 8 being at 49mAh/min and the s6 series at around 50-52, so just marginally faster... which, again, is also represented by the numbers i listed in my post before
and again: there is NO extra message or notification stating ure in fast charge mode on the mate 8, it just does its job, thats it!
if ure getting slower charging rates / voltages, make sure to use the original charger and original cable and both with a proper high voltage power outlet.

I noticed the fast charging only really kicks in if you leave your phone alone. But if you keep using it while it's charging, it just charges at regular speed. But the moment I put the phone down and screen of for 5 minutes, it quick charges like crazy

I hadn't tested this. After i turn off my phone, a few minutes later it jumps to 9V 2A on my meter. If you turn it back on it goes down to 5V 1A. Must be a phone security thing, which is kinda cool in a way if you ask me.
Btw Apparently quick charge works with non original chargers too. I have a Cheotech 60W 6 port usb with 2 Quick charge ports (which supports 9V 2A/ 12V 1.5A) and it works Using the original cable though.
Don't use fast charging unless you really need it.
Always fast charging overnite (when you're not actually using the phone for many hours) can only shorten your battery longevity more quickly then with normal charging.

When I'm going to recharge for many hours overnite I use a 1A travel charger.
i guess thats the best way to restrict charging amperage although it shouldnt hurt the battery so much, considering that the amperage drops off sharply once level reaches 85% and above...

Charging a phone with a lower rated current, will cause the charger to "try and match" the current requested.
Amps work in that manner, the device determines the draw. For example, using a 5v 5a (theoretical device) on a 5v 1a device will likely melt your adapter / screw up your phone from improper voltages.
In that case, an adapter may heat up, or if its smart enough (unlikely), it will turn off periodically. Most of the time, it will have an unstable voltage (undervolting) which is how some phones are able to detect an improper charger is used. This is bad for your battery.
I do not recommend charging with a charger that isn't rated for it. This is widely documented.

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the OnePlus 5 can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.

And in both situations, dash charge is superior to any quickcharge solution i've tested.
I can confirm. Alot faster and still cool battery. It charges with 3 amperes through than with an anker charger that fills your battery with 1.2 amperes through.
Dash charging is the bomb. Even without the Dash charger, the phone charges awfully fast.
lighting fast
Easily gets through a day with heavy usage with plenty of power left in the battery.
Super fast charging speed.

I don't think my phones ever overheated.
Dash charge works phenomenally well, I've never known a charger this fast.
Problem for me is I have a tonne of other USB-C chargers which even though they have similar voltage and amp output they sometimes charge slowly or normally, so you would need to buy another dash charge to get the same speeds.
I have another charger (Dash) but no second cable, lost it. Using another USB-C cable doesn't allow Dash, so the cable matters too.
I saw a video on youtube with charge speed comparison between flagship phones, one+5 was fastest there (1 hour 13 mins). pixel 2xl there was around 2 hours 40 mins)

The time connected to the charger isn't exactly a factor here. You could leave it on the charger for days and it likely won't get very hot, because it will only be trickle charging it to keep it at 100%.
Now, there are other things that cause battery life issues, but I was specifically referencing excessive heat, which is the number 1 battery killer.

My girlfriend oneplus 3 after 1.5 year still got 6 h + sot, dash charge is great
If my phone is on, it usually takes an hour or less. Since the last update it has been faster.
DASH charging is super fast, while charging with QC 2.0/3.0 charger or any other charger its reaaaaally slow.
No heating on charging even if i use this beast.
Gets me full charge in around 100 minutes.
Sometimes it charges really quick around one hourin my office (i think power supply in my office is better than my home) but takes 100 minutes at home mostly.

General Well. This is a bit disappointing

S22 Ultra 45W vs S22 Ultra 25W vs S21 Ultra 25W charging test
wouldve expected it to charge much faster, especially when you consider the smaller battery.
Totally expected, 45W works just at lower temperatures and under 50% charge as it was back in the Note 10+ days. It's useful only when you are topping up on the go, for 0-100% it's almost the same

Well it is improved, it was downgraded 2 years ago to be fair and now is back to that state. It charges faster from 0% to 50% which is exactly how it used to work before. If you expected something different your expectations were wrong, don't know what to say. Even devices with very fast charge charge faster for the first half then slow down considerably. Samsung has always had a more conservative approach on charging after the Note 7 debacle, that's why I expected it to be managed like it was before.

I've traded my Oneplus 7 pro. A 3 year old phone and It still charges much faster than S22 Ultra. Considering to I'm paying for a flagship phone which is over £1000 and it's charging technology called "Super fast" charging. Yeah I'm a bit disappointed.

The N10+ with the 25w brick will fast charge from 5-70% at the rate of 2%@min on its 4300mAh battery. Between 70-82% it may ramp down slightly, at 90% fast charging disengages.
This is dependent on battery start charging temperature, if too low or high fast charging will not engage, and battery condition. A 20% charge in 10 minutes isn't bad...
Fast charging is limited by heat buildup in the battery caused by internal resistance. The Li cell charging process is actually an endothermic reaction but is outweighed by the internal resistance generated heat.
I can see it being an issue for those that prioritize fast charging over battery longevity. I charge my device overnight and use a Chargie to regulate the charge to a maximum of 80% and limited to 8 watts. I'm not a power user and this method may not work for everyone.
Looks like they're using an older 45 watter. The new ones are the real 45 watts.

The old 45 Watt averaged about 28 watts of power iirc. The new one will supposedly give the full advertised wattage. I'm just shocked sammobile out of all sites did not know this...

I doubt it. QC boosts the charge wattage by increasing the voltage; more volts less amps means less parasitic waste heat.
What's left to improve on the charging protocol side? They to improve the battery itself now for any meaningful performance improvements.
These manufacturers push the hype, the reviewers do too, then long after the release the truth finally comes out.
If you can wait a few months for the dust to settle you'll get a better idea of what to expect.
There is a new 45w charger, model EP-T4510XBEGGB. This one seems to work fine and not overheat.

Curious as to what your thoughts are regarding the Chargie since Samsung has now added the same charge up to 80% feature in Android 12 under device care. Is it now redundant?

i have those USB-C cable with watt LED display. it only showing 31w on my home 65w aftermarket charger,
also showing only 31w on my 65w aftermarket car charger.
I'm using my OP9P charger lol it works really fast so...I didn't need to buy a separate charger. Thank God since it's sold out

Question Do the wall wart and cable matter?

I have some Anker brand USB-A to USB-C charging cables and just the wall wart (is there a technical name for those things?) from something... probably one of my old Samsung phones... it says "Adaptive fast charging" and output says "9.0 V === 1.67A or 5.0 V === 2.0 A".
( know that stands for "volts" and "amps", but I don't understand what the rest of it means... 2 Amps is "faster" than 1.67 Amps... I think... but what makes it charge at one speed or the other?)
My real questions:
1) Will using the USB-A to USB-A cable that came WITH the Galaxy S22 Ultra make a difference in charging speed?
2) Do I need to get a different "wall wart"? If I want one that supports USB-C plugging into it, I do, but will it gain me anything?

See how what you have now performs. The best/fully compatible would be Samsung own charger. And any decent quality cables

1.67amps x 9v is 15.03watts.
5.00apms x 5v is 10.00watts.
15 Watts is a nice steady rate to be charging your battery at.
45w...is really too fast if you want your battery to last more than 2 years.

45W is nothing and won't really degrade your battery much. Also, keep in mind, that batteries degrade regardless if you use them or not, they have a shelf life. So, in 2-3 years you will mostly need to replace your battery anyway if you plan to keep your phone for that long (assuming that you want the battery to be at it's "full" capacity after 2-3 years).

Even still...I'll keep slow charging my phone...knowing that it will last 5 years.
My note 4 battery outlasted the actual phone. The touch screen packed up first. The battery still lasted 6 hours screen on.
I replaced it with a Note 9. Again...the battery was fine...and original. Same story...6 hours of screen on time.
Now I have a Note 22....or S22 Ultra.
I have used the Note 4's charger for all of these phones...with my 10watt Kosee wireless charger. Even on the Note 4...with a wireless adapter.

It doesn't push 10 Amperes into the battery.
PPS charging is pushing from 3.3V to 20 Volts at 2.25Amps, it's dynamic charging and it depends on the device's state (temperature of the battery, the charger, the capacity of the battery).
I'm not sure where you get this information, and not trying to be rude now but maybe you should check up on both PD and PPS charging protocols that Samsung uses before assuming it's charging at 10 amps.

( know that stands for "volts" and "amps", but I don't understand what the rest of it means... 2 Amps is "faster" than 1.67 Amps... I think... but what makes it charge at one speed or the other?)
My real questions:
1) Will using the USB-A to USB-A cable that came WITH the Galaxy S22 Ultra make a difference in charging speed?
2) Do I need to get a different "wall wart"? If I want one that supports USB-C plugging into it, I do, but will it gain me anything?

1. With Galaxy S22 there is an USB-C to USB-C cable not USB-A (maybe a typo on your side). That cable is rated for the full power charge the device supports, that is 45w. It can make a difference if you are using it with a proper charger (that's the actual naming for the "wall wart"...it is called "charger" or "wall charger" btw).
2. Yes, you should get a different one if you wanna charge faster. Your actual charger is a (so called) "fast" charger with the charging power varying from 15W to 10W. Your phone supports from 25W up to 45W, that are the "ultra fast" chargers.
I'd suggest to get at least a 25W charger, also there are some extremely good Anker alternatives (even better that original Samsung chargers), look for Nano II 635 or 615 Anker chargers.
If you wanna keep your phone for an extended period (like 4-5 years or more), you might wanna activate that battery protection charge that only charges it till 85% and will preserve it for a longer period. If you switch phones after 2, even 3 years, don't bother, charge it as you like fast or slow till 100%

If the charger is rated at 45 Watts and sometimes actually delivers that:
45 Watts / (maximum) 4.3 Volt battery > 10 Amperes
Maybe they are PWM-ing it or whatever, but the peak current is > 10 Amperes.
Ok, we can subtract the efficiency of the buck converter, but it's still in that neighborhood.
What would happen if I bought and used a 65-watt charger? Would it automatically drop down to 45 watts to charge my S22 Ultra? Could it damage it, etc.?

1.Q. Yes.
2.Q. It not gonna damage it if not pushed to full 100% or discharged completely before connecting.
Sorry to hijack this thread, but is there a decent wireless charger, that will give me fast wireless charging with a Spigen powerarc arcstation pro 65w charger? I have tried about 3-4 cheap crap ones, and they all give reg wireless charging of about 22% for an hour's charge.
The S22U‘s maximum wireless charging rate is only 15 watts. I use the Spigen PowerArc ArcField 15 watt wireless charger, which is powered by a conventional charger via USB C cable and works very well charging my S22U.
