Hey guys, I just made a video on how to truly experience the captivate, or any android phone for that matter.
Check it out if you guys want to. Mainly for newer users but everyone is welcome to watch and critique

thanks and yeah i went a little overboard with descriptions lol
May I suggest you keep a list of talking points off camera for reference (maybe rehearse it a couple times before recording?)... To avoid all the "uuuhhhss" and "uuuummmms" it would make the videos shorter and make you sound much, much, more professional.
Flash a new rom.
Bam! Didn't even need a video for that!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
true true, ill keep that in mind
i had no idea what you were going to be talking about. start with that.
today im going to talk about... this this and this. now lets start with this....
and nothing you did makes anything "hd" there is nothing worse than making information that uses words incorrectly. it takes HD video, always has, and thats it.
besides that, i like that you are out here to help
Damn, I think I'm going to have to watch this thing. Right after "But I'm a cheerleader" lol

continuum 5 eh? I really wanna get into gingerbread. my damn exams are taking too much of my time. but sooooon
and @Trussello
By changing the density like I did, it gives the illusion of an HD screen with a superAMOLED display which isnt even coming out with the S II :S.
I believe that this is far superior to the atrix's screen and it is in essence turning your captivate 'HD'
I think the title is justifiable.
Thanks for your feedback it is much appreciated and im learning a lot
Good job but be more prepared next time.

I downgraded. The KB lag was ANNOYING. No matter what KB or rom I used, KB lag and autoincorrect was horrid.

I see, thanks for the heads up. I'm probably gonna try it out for myself though. My exams end in 5 days so by then there might be a more stable kernal/rom
Tried it and its actually pretty good IMO but it was updated several times

What kind of a calender widget are you using?
It's great that you're doing this for the community Here's some hopefully constructive feedback:
Try to be more to the point. I was curious to learn some stuff, but i found myself getting bored and impatient, which is a shame. You basically spent 4-5 minutes on unlocking the screen with WidgetLocker, without really explaining what WidgetLocker really is, and on ADW EX, but only showing the setting for the number of desktop columns and rows. There are lots of neat things about both these apps, yet i didn't get to see any of it
Keep in mind who your audience is. For the people who are not familiar with the apps you're showing, you want to make sure you explain things. And you want to keep it brief enough so that people who are familiar with the app you're discussing don't get too bored and quit watching. My expectation going into a video like this would be that you will cover several things, and that i may know about a few of them, but not all of them. So the ones i already know about, i'd like them to be short enough that i don't get bored. And the ones i do not yet know about need to be informative enough that i get a basic idea of what it is and does.
My suggestion would be that for each app you try to give a 1-3 sentence explanation about what it is / what it does, and then demo a few features, without dwelling on it too long. I think you could put together a great video if you were to use a rule of thumb like that for each app and cool thing you want to show. Before you start recording, make a shot bullet list of the things you want to mention, so that you can stay on target. (Don't make a script with sentences, because you'd end up reading the script to the viewer, which really doesn't work.)
I hope that that helps you in some way. Again, it's nice you're doing this. I'm just trying to provide some feedback to help you get better I'm looking forward to more videos from you!

with the new gingerbread roms HD may cause complications. broke my camera, scaling was terrible, FCs and so on. tread with caution.
My Wife has been a professional photographer for about 7 years now. her birthday is coming up within the next 2 weeks. I have purchased her an Htc Sensation for her birthday.. I would like to have a custom rom made for her with photography as a main theme and really the purpose of the phone.. Ex.. a photograhpy style ui theme. Camera tweaks etc etc.. i am no dev so i do not know what can and cant be done.
If any dev is interested in this please feel free to pm me or leave a reply on this thread..
I will pay via pay pal when the project is completed.
Sincerely Kevin
one comes stock with the fone, check it under lockscreen, and get a live wall paper called "photogrid" and the phone will now display pics when locked and unlocked.
the stock camera is really good for a fone, but there is a mod to improve it vastly
...unless i completely missed the point, there is no need to waste your money with a request such as this

I would guess he wants this to be the equivalent of the audiophile rom for the galaxy s 4g
For the most part i'm interested in a theme. I am no photographer or have really any artistic ability.
I would like someone to create a Themed ui that is represenetive in a way Photographer feels about their passion.
Foto tile slideshow is a much better live wallpaper to use i find.. Displays multiple pictures at once from a few sources

thats a tall order right there, for the most part, when i capture my "passion" on a fone i do it myself, kinda pointless if someone else's interpretation of an idea you try to conceive comes through...more often than not, you wont be satisfied...
on top of that, i done think anyone will make this for you on such a short notice for that amount of money...your best bet is to pm a few themers in the themes and apps thread and cross your fingers.
other than that, im sure she will love the fact that you got her this fone, it has a great camera, and really, its the thought that counts when giving a gift ;P

Hi Guys,
I shot a 2 part video explaining all (atleast most) of the Galaxy Note 3's software features.
PART 1
PART 2
Hoping this is useful to new comers and existing users alike.
Ash
Very informative and to the point. I'd only suggest turning the phone so it's not so sideways to the viewer, but I learned a lot from those clips.

Noted... I was thinking showing it sideways would stop my hand from obstructing the screen... is is uncomfortable throughout or did i just overdo it at certain parts?

I don't think you overdid it at all. And you're right, your hand never obscured what you were showing. :good:

So do you think I should continue with this angle in future videos, any feedback would be appreciated buddy, I just want to keep improving... sorry for too many questions

No sweat. You give more than you ask for!
I think the phone could be aligned more straight to the viewer and still show what you're doing on it, but I could be wrong. I do know that some hands-on videos I've seen hid most of what you were supposed to learn because the reviewer had such fat fingers.

Thanks man I think I got a little too obsessed with aligning the phone diagonally so that I can zoom in the max... will keep it a little straighter in future videos... sometimes when you get in too deep you cant see the bigger picture and end up over analyzing and missing common stuff out... I really appreciate the feedback... Will work it into future videos
Ash

Videos are excellent, a little long combining them both, but still excellent. I didn't mind the angle so much, everything was clear and focused.
I may have missed it, but when I went into AT&T they had a white note 3 on display, the dialer on that phone was white with white buttons, your video seems to show dark with dark buttons? Is that an option or am I crazy?

Might have been an AT&T thing... theres no option to change it tho... and yes they were long... did the short review earlier... I felt that I really couldnt do justice to all of the Note 3's features in a 12 min review and hence decided to do a 20 min one featuring all s/w and then that ended up being a 2 part 35 min video (and thats after 12-14 hours in editing, multiple run throughs and extensive cutting )

Btw I thought the viewing angle was perfect I could see everything you were doing.
Had seen these before seeing this post and think they are excellent and I learnt a lot from them. It's nice you broke them up made an ideal place to try out some of the features before continuing with the second part. Excellent work I would certainly say you had a future doing these kind of reviews.

Many thanks Ashwin for arranging these two videos.
They are very useful for a fast update on some useful features and shortcuts for the note 3.
Its also helpful to know when certain features don't work, as you show, which can save a lot of aggravation given that the Note 3 manual is not particularly comprehensive.
Excellent
As many others have said, great videos! Nice and clear, easy to understand and follow; very nice pace and to the point. I learned a LOT!
i have been reading the chinese one plus forum and apparently the camera app in color OS is much better than the CM camera app. i was wondering if anyone is kind enough to help port it out so we can all benefit from it and have better photo taking experience.

You will need to get this files from existing ColorOs installation (root required) or extract from existing ColorOs images and then copy to CM (root required too). It may work or may not, but you can try.
think i'll wait for someone good to do this, im too noob. A lot of people on the OPO Chinese forum is also requesting this.
Here's the Oppo camera and gallery app extracted from Oppo Find 7:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5219659/OppoCam-Test.zip
However, it won't work on Oneplus One's CM11S as it rely on the Color OS library.

if i'm right, we have to port libraries also from colorOS, still if we want to have the same photo quality.
CM11S-Camera not work under ColorOS. ColorOS-Camera not work under CM11/CM11S or MIUI.

You're not serious, are you? It's that kind of demanding, self-entitled attitude that makes developers not want to work on projects like this. Anyway, it can't be done.

I might sound a bit harsch when I wrote the first message but that is just because I have been desperate to find a way to port this but none of the forums can do this. I admire you guys for sure for the job you are spending but I didn't expect this case to be impossible because you guys have done much more complicated jobs than this.
So therefore, this was my reaction due to pure frustration and nothing personal towards any of you developers.
Anyways, I hope there could be a small little chance to be able to get this issue solved in the future - if anyone wants to take that challenge, I mean.

Sorry, but it just won't happen. The camera app is tied so heavily into the framework of ColorOS that so much of ColorOS would need to be ported across along with the camera, that you'd actually just be left with ColorOS as your ROM. Plus the amount of effort vs the payoff is just ridiculously disproportionate. Essentially, if you really want the camera that bad, you might as well just run ColorOS.
PS. I'm not a dev, just an RC.

I have noticed that with this device's delicious camera and the amazing software paired up with it we DON'T have a thread for us all to post our amazing shots!!!
Now I am by no means a photographer, but I LOVE taking pictures with a good camera, and while my shots aren't the best, I know there are fellow V10 users that have AMAZING SHOTS! So let's get a thread where we can all post up shots!
All other devices I've owned have a thread like this, I really can't believe we don't have one here! But now we do!
I'll start off I suppose, by posting some photos I've taken in the few days I've owned the device. I am certainly going to take some more here in the future.
As always, let's stick to XDA rules and keep it workplace appropriate. No nudity, gore, etc.
- Basically, don't post anything you wouldn't want your mother or 8 year old daughter to see....
Two more to get us started off... These were taken this morning on break at school, had to bend over a 5 foot tall wall to take it... So It's not the best.
Can't wait to see everyone's photos and see what this camera is capable of!
Also, if you guys could give some insight as to what you did to take the photo, such as manual or auto mode - if you want to go more in depth awesome, and then if this is the original photo or if there was editing done post shot.
Thanks guys!
Matt

Shot through a moving car windshield
Taken here in Winthrop, WA this afternoon.
Some pictures from the first weekend I had the phone. Bought it Friday then went to the Blue Ridge Parkway to try to get some fall color pictures.
We found this bridge on our way back to the highway. It's the longest foot bridge on the Appalachian Trail. It was taken at dusk. Almost dark. Awesome camera for being able to take these pics in such low light! I had it on auto and I had HDR on.
A full view of the bridge. This is the James River.
And one from earlier in the day. This one is currently my home screen wallpaper.
I have a whole lot more! I was waiting for a picture thread!
