Dex 4k? - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Title says it all
Does the Note 20 Ultra's Dex mode support 4k out? I'm asking specifically when using one of the USB-C hubs that have Ethernet, HDMI and USB ports.
Thanks for your answers!

Not as I know. The wireless DeX is FHD resolution and by using cable it can go up to 2K. No 4K support I'm afraid

I'm also looking for a Type C to HDMI cable, and I was wondering if the P30 Pro outputs at 60hz? (at 1080p or 4k?) The Kirin 980 looks good for PSP/Gamecube emulation and I'd like the emulators to run at full speed on my TV.
Will something like this be ok?

Picking up my P30 pro tomorrow and I will glad to see the back of this Sony, no MHL out and the headphone jack failed within a year.
I've got 2 'standard' amazon USB-C to HDMI adaptors, they all work great. If you're using it for occasional displaying then don't worry, but if you are hoping to use it longer term then get one that does PD passthrough

In the end I bought this Choetech USB C to HDMI cable. Used it to watch the football on my TV using the BT sport app and it worked perfectly. It is a massive step up from Mira/Chrome casting and has high wattage PD so that the phone charges quickly as well.
I'm going to add a few roms and emulators (PPSSPP, Damon PS2 & Dolphin) to my phone at some point and will see if I get 60fps on the TV and whether it outputs in 4k, but for £17 (I got an open box one for £13) it's a bargain.
I use mine for emulator gaming (admittedly on a 1080p screen) and it works great

Hi.
Can you test that cable with Netflix?
Best regards.
1920x1080 I believe is what it does. At least that's what the resolution of the screenshots are when you're in desktop mode. Desktop mode doesn't work with all apps. I tested it with a 4K monitor and 4K HDMI cable and 4K adapter, but it's not outputting 4K.

Hi I downloaded Netflix and started a trial with the UltraHD options.
The phone outputs Netflix in Full HD whilst in phone mode, but not 4k. It may well be outputting HDR via HDMI, but my TV only responds to HDR content from the USB port (thanks Sony) so I can't confirm this.
When in desktop mode, the audio comes through but the screen is black (apart from the navigation options and content warnings). This is a shame as when I use the BT Sport app it outputs video at the highest possible resolution with out issue. So Netflix via desktop mode is not possible, perhaps this could be escalated with Huawei and patched via software, I wouldn't know.
I also tested the UltraHD options via the Android TV app on my Sony TV and it worked flawlessly, although I will be uninstalling Netflix after my month because KODI.
Hope this helps.

Actually this modded version of the Netflix APK could be interesting, when I get home from work I might try this.

Thanks a lot for your test.
Even in desktop mode and only full hd netflix doesn't work? I don't use 4k because for now I don't have TV or monitor 4k.
Best regards.

hi, do u mind sharing your charging speed using Ampere apps on playstore? im using BASEUS with same 60W power delivery, but the charging speed is so low. your help will be grateful.tqsm!!
I use this
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M61X8N3
Mainly for watching my own content on TVs in hotels. So far I have not had any issues.
I went for this one from Amazon
USB C Hub, WIMUUE 7 in 1 Aluminum Adapter with 100W Power Delivery, 4K HDMI, 2 USB 3.0 Ports, MicroSD, SD Card Reader USBC Dongle for MacBook Pro/Air Thunderbolt 3 Multiport Dock USB Type C Laptop: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
Free delivery and returns on eligible orders. Buy USB C Hub, WIMUUE 7 in 1 Aluminum Adapter with 100W Power Delivery, 4K HDMI, 2 USB 3.0 Ports, MicroSD, SD Card Reader USBC Dongle for MacBook Pro/Air Thunderbolt 3 Multiport Dock USB Type C Laptop at Amazon UK.
www.amazon.co.uk
for about £20. Plugged it in and it worked straight off playing a film on a USB stuck into the hub using MXPlayer (on the phone) onto my TV via HDMI . Thought it was handier as my laptop doesn't have a microSD card reader so could use it on there too.... and get stuff onto or off my phone onto USB/microSD/SD. Happy chap! Ready for hotel visits now.

Honor 20 HDMI out?

I just bought the Honor 20 and found the Desktop mode using cast. But will a dongle(or hub) from USB-C to HDMI work like it does for the Honor 20 view?
It should work, try it
Sent from my P30 using Tapatalk
i tried the samsung type-c hdmi cable , it doesn't work.
Honor 20 comes with a USB 2.0 usb controller using USB-C interface. HDMI out only works on USB controllers with Controller revision 3.0+. So no, you cannot use C->HDMI adapters/cables.

Mi note 10 - MHL - HDMI Output possible?

Hello!
HDMI Output is possible on this phone?
Ive bought one Usb-c to HDMI converter but its doesnt work.
Somewhere i read that if i get a usb 2.0 to 3.0 converter it would be possible.
Installing two different apps, One says that it support mhl, other says it doesnt.
Thanks
Unfortunately no. Xiaomi does not support mhl.
So there's no way to capture video from the device via capture card?
Not what you're asking for, but I mirrored it fine with an Amazon Fire HDMI stick to my TV. It was a bit touch and go, until I changed my wifi connection to 5GHz. Maybe you could do some HDMI wiggling to get the data?
Cheers
Steve

Does one plus 8t have video out through usb c ?

I know that the one plus 8t has usb c 3.1 port but does it support video out ? And I’m not talking video out with those adapters that will make any phone have a display output , I’m talking about native display out from the phone using either a compliant usb c to usb c to a monitor that supports usb c or with hdmi like Samsung newer smartphones , thanks in advance

I have never owned a usb-c monitor, but my laptop is one of those thin ones that doesn't have many ports. and so a while ago I bought a cheap dongle off of amazon that is basically a usb-c hub with hdmi, usb-a and a charging usb-c passthrough, and this works perfectly with the oneplus 8t. The only issue I have is that the tall screen mirroring onto a 16:9 display means black bars on the top and bottom. My mate also has a direct usb-c to hdmi cable (basically has the dongle components built in to the cable ends), and this works fine too with my 8t, although a dongle is preferred so you can charge at the same time.
As I said, I don't have direct experience with a usb-c monitor, but logic follows that if the monitor supports usb-c video in, and the oneplus 8t supports video out over usb-c, then you should be away.
I believe there's an experimental desktop mode available too - go into developer options, scroll down to the apps subheading (nearly at the bottom) and there should be a Force Desktop Mode toggle. I tinkered once with it, and it reminded me a bit of Samsung's dex, but as I have a real laptop, I use that instead.

Thank you ! Is there a way to remove those black bars by creating a custom aspect ratio or resolution when the phone is rooted ? also what about the resolution , refresh rate and input lag , Does it support at least 1080p 60hz and low enough input lag for gaming ?

Android phone capable of [email protected] HDR output via HDMI

I've bought S21 thinking it will do [email protected] with HDR (10-bit) through a USB-C-to-HDMI cable to my 4K/HDR capable TV.
But it turns out it can't. It will do 4K, but only in SDR (8-bit).
I was able to do that with my iPad Mini, which I got rid of after upgrading my phone and trying to consolidate my devices.
Real bummer.
Is there another Android phone that is capable of doing [email protected] HDR through HDMI?

I am using USB-C to HDMI converter, but like I said I was only able to get 4K SDR and not HDR. Is there a specific product you are referring to?
Nobody?...
