Files disappearing from OTG USB drive - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I was searching for reason, why i loose records from my dashcam and I found out today, sometimes, when I conect it to my Xiaomi mi9 lite via OTG, files go missing (names are still there, but size is 0):

It happens for newest files, 1 minute before connecting to phone, there was no data corrupion. File system is FAT32, chkdsk finds no errors. SD card is new, tested on few cards and it still hapens.
In this case, 40GB data is lost from 64GB card. Why this is happening? On my previous phone (Samsung J3 with custom ROM) worked normally.

Android works better with ext4 or f2fs than it does with FAT32.

Yea, I know, but most mobile devices support only FAT32, it's somewhat standard, despite of its flaws.

One S says USB storage is damaged, but its not.

My One S (S4 tmob.de, s-on, no root, latest firmware) all of sudden stopped reading my pendrive. It says it is damaged. Pendrive works fine, no problems, i ran chkdsk on it, reformatted it a few times(FAT32, 16gb pendrive). Other pendrives work, but this one wont anymore.
Any ideas?

Normal USB 2.0 Flash Drive connected to my phone through USB OTG cable. I dont know why i didnt mention that..
OK, i finally found someone with USB HOST, and his phone gave option to reformat my pendrive, and now it works. (my phone didnt give me option to reformat..)
I am quite confused, cause it got formatted into FAT32, which it arleady was... but whatever, IT WORKS!

[Q] SD Card low format for resurrection?

I recently bought an SDXC Card, Samsung, 64GB Class 10 for my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014. It was working, and then, I think I probably took it out without unmounting and it corrupted. I searched for a way to fix it, and found about mbrfix, which fixed the card and it`s now recognizable. Then I took it out again, tried to use it on the tablet, in vain, but when I went back to the PC, now it gives me a CRC error everytime I try to fix MBR or use DiskPart to clean/create a volume.
Chkdsk won't work because it's being read in RAW format, which doesn't work.
So my question is, how to, I don't know, "low format" or something like that?
The data inside is not important, I just would like to make the card usable again.

Have you tried the "official" formatter?

Official formatter only works when there is a volume.
My last try was with Low Format Tool from HDD Guru, but it gave me a bunch of errors in the process, so I'm not confident that my card is original anymore... So ended up buying another, but this tool should be able to Ignore errors and completely format anything, resetting all volumes (and no need for full wipe, that kills sd cards)

OTG problems with exfat

I'm currently running DU rom and on CM I used otg to transfer pictures from my 128gb SD to Instagram, but I switched because cm randomly reboots and I was having graphical problems too. So I switched to Omni Based DU but now when I plug in my card it comes up like this
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and I confirmed it still works in TWRP and on my PC? So basically I hate cm with all it's bugs, but I need OTG... Is there any way I can get it to work on DU?

Tried stickmount from the play store?
Yes it has the same problem

Stickmount will mount into a different directory than the ROM does, are you checking the proper directory for where Stickmount is mounting? Just to be sure.

Its folder on my sdcard and files still show up as 0b files, I tried copyingan entire folder from that 128gb card to an ntfs drive and then the stickmount works, but even stickmount doesn't help with exfat... I'm assuming this is a kernel problem

That's my guess as well. AK has a kernel that supports exFAT. Wish NTFS was supported with write in TWRP though, I wouldn't be using exFAT if that was the case.

A picture says 1000 words
Can't put stuff on it, won't even let me write to my SD card, which it says has space.
Done hard reset - nothing
Note 4 clone MT6572
Any ideas?

SD card is fine, but upon further testing I think the phone storage is lying and is only very small
Do you have root? Some Samsung phones (I don't know if it applies to clones too) fill /data partition with log files (many MB every day). You could navigate to /data/log (or similar) and delete all *.log.gz, *.txt.gz
A handy tool to check where is space wasted is Disk Usage
Also note that some EMMC need reboot to update free space records, so phone may report memory is still full until you reboot.
Ok, thanks for the tips. I have root, and will try your suggestions when I get time.
I think so some phones show the phone memory is full because the app installation space is full it differ to media storage rom so plz go to setting and go to app settings and move the most of heavy app to sd card i think so it may help and try it once..............and doing it power off once and then on it

[Q] Does the s7 support 256GB SD card?

Does it support it since i've only heard that the expandable storage is 128~max no mention of the higher versions:

nvm should have google before this but it seems it supports it without any problems
Yes it does and they work great with adoptable storage available via ADB. Hint there's a guide on here already

Basically the system will recognize the card as internal storage but it's disabled in the UI hence using a pc with ADB to enable it. I have mine set up in split mode with 215gb internal and 25gb partitioned external. There are a few quirks about it, never format the external partition as it will take the internal partition with it, don't ask haha . Also the system incorrectly reports total storage not a big deal. A quick search will tell you more. :good:
Samsung was giving away a free 256GB Micro-SD cards when purchasing an S7 as a promotion a few months ago. Mine has been working just fine so far.
Woking fine without any problems.....
