T-mobile 5G and unlocked Note 20 ultra - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Hello there!
So anyone with a Note 20 unlocked variant and T-mobile service can confirm what does it say under settings, About phone, Status, Sim card Status and mobile network ? Mine says LTE but at the top says 5g and I know how carriers like to show off "fake5g" so I'm just curious if thats how the phone is or maybe I need a new sim or something.
I like about 10 mins from downtown Atlanta and I know T-mobile is really strong here so I'm not sure about 5G yet.

Here's mine, I'm not using 5G as it's a battery hog.

You are actually getting 5G with T-Mo. Do a speedtest with both. In Santa Clarita my 5G is twice as fast as 4G, and Speedtest.net reports it as 5G.

I did a speed test at home where I usually get 13-17 Mbps on LTE, on 5G the single test I ran got 65Mbps. It can be turned on and off as needed around the house. At home I use wifi mostly as it's 120Mbps and doesn't eat the battery as fast as 5G did.

I have Metro which is Tmobile and I'm getting 5g. Speed test app shows it as 5g also.
Edit: Factory Unlocked N20Ultra U1.

My 5G is like 12Mbps and my 4G is about 60Mbps. It's unfortunate! I can't wait for 5G to get better. In a nearby town, I got 142Mbps!

My 5G changes daily from 8 to 140 depends on the time of day in the same area. 5G on tmobile is also their home internet service. In my area outside Atlantic City is always being worked on by sub contractors working on all three carriers. The old building I use to run which is 7 stories had antennas changed before they could rust from weather. Technology is moving as fast as the weather.

Anyone who already received their OP6 can me tell if they can connect to all the LTE bands including the new LTE band 71. Also how is the reception on the phone
I'll be getting mine tomorrow. So should be able to post up results then. But, the specs on the phone state band 71 is supported. It's just a matter of if 71 is in your area....
No band 71 in my area or I'd test that for you. Otherwise it is working perfectly on T-Mobile for me
I can't confirm what bands it was using, but I was able to get 120Mb/s via a LTE speedtest. I also confirmed VoLTE and WiFi calling work without issue.

And while doing a 2nd LTE speedtest I received a phone call, so did test while talking on the phone

download app called cellmapper https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cellmapper.net.cellmapper&hl=en_US
I am on TMobile US and have been using WiFi calling and HD VoLTE. I haven't seen band 71 yet, but I don't know if it's in my area. Another app that works to check bands is LTE Discovery - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.simplyadvanced.ltediscovery
I would also like to know if there is anything extra you have to do to turn on Wi-Fi calling.

Since I don't see the OnePlus 6 in the T-Mobile store, I'm assuming there is no T-Mobile-specific hardware/software version (as is typical with Samsung)?
Please confirm that OnePlus 6 could be bought from OnePlus store, and by following the above steps, all T-mobile features would be available? (Wi-Fi Calling, VoLTE, Tethering)

I bought my op6 from OnePlus store. I'm on T-Mobile in North Carolina and I enabled Volte & WiFi Calling via those steps. I see the tethering/mobile hotspot setting as well but I've not tested it.
Yes this phone connects to all of T-Mobiles towers it has even more bands then the T-Mobile s9+ that's why I got ride of that phone and got this one.
Teathering works

Z Fold 2 not showing 5G

You never had "5G" on your previous AT&T branded phones. You had 5Ge which is AT&T marketing speak for LTE+. Google it. AT&T's premature declaration of 5G caused quite an uproar. AT&T branded phones display the 5G icon when on LTE+ because it's baked in to the s/w. Unlocked phones see LTE+ for what it is. If you're in a real 5G market the correct icon will display. I left AT&T for T-Mobile and my unlocked phone displays the 5G icon because my market is 5G.

Your screen shot shows you connected to Wi-Fi. The 5G (or LTE) symbol will pop up occasionally when I'm on Wi-Fi but the majority of the time my phone looks like yours. T-Mobile has low-band (~40MB - 50MB) 5G by my house and mid-band (+100MB) near my office. For some reason the mid-band towers near my office stopped working and I only get LTE+ there now. With the Sprint migration T-Mobile is doing a hella lot of network (re)configuration so maybe that's why you're on LTE.
Here's my phone from home so I know it's picking up 5G when it's there to pick up.

I am on AT&T unlocked, it shows 5G icon in status bar with no problem. Upgrade your sim card and pay for 5G data plan.
Would I have any problem using the unlocked version with Verizon and their sudo-5G? My Note 10+ won't get 5G anywhere but my wife's S20UW does due to the UW radio. Honestly it isn't any faster than my 4G yet, but I expect it will eventually.
Also, is there any reason to choose a carrier specific model vs the unlocked?

Cyberpunk 2077 AT&T 5G in US?

Good evening all!
I'm kind of confused. The Cyberpunk 2077 edition of the phone is said to have Standard 5G FDD5G: 2600, 2100, 1800, 700 which I don't think AT&T supports, however, my phone appears to be connecting to the AT&T 5G network. Am I mistaken and does this phone have the capabilities of connecting to AT&T's 5G bands?
Thank you for your help!

The screenshot shows 5G. I see my phone go from LTE to LTE+ to 5G. On my S20 Ultra and my Galaxy Fold2 I didn't have the option to select connections (where others in other parts of the world could) and was able to connect to AT&T 5G.
Hmmmm, I didn't notice the 5G by the signal bars. Where are you located? Did you have to do anything like threaten AT&T to let you get 5G? Is it something you can select as an option in the settings? Sorry for all the questions but I am located just north of Houston and I have talked with AT&T a few times now and they say I should have 5G but it is not selectable in the phone, nor does it ever show up next to the signal bars.
I get 5g on T-Mobile US but as we know these are just improved 4g speeds and not true 5g speeds using MM wave

I am located in California near San Fransisco. I am able to connect to 5G in certain parts of the city. I was able to connect to 5G when I upgraded my plan to the Unlimited Elite plan. For this phone I had to go to *#*#4636#*#* and select the NR/LTE/TDSCDMA/GSM network type and that allowed me to connect to 5G. By default the option is set to LTE/GSM only and not the option with NR. I have to change the preferred network type every time I reset though.

Thanks for the answers. I am already on the unlimited elite plan myself. I am aware of the setting you mention that has to be redone after every reboot. I have done it several times but it has never resulted in me getting any 5G signal...that I am aware of. I never saw the 5G next to my signal bars. Maybe it would work in different areas of the city but from my home it makes no difference. Maybe there is no 5G antennas in my local area??? The only other thing is the SIM card I am using. I was using it in my OnePlus 7-Pro and when I received the 8T I just swapped it over to the new phone. Everything works OK and according to AT&T I do not need a new SIM...but I do wonder. Did you get a new SIM after switching to the Elite plan, or did you just swap the one you already had? Other than that I have no idea why I am not getting any 5G..not that it is any better than LTE in real world use! So maybe I need a new SIM, or I just do not have a 5G signal right where I live.
AT&T uses one of the 5G bands that oneplus supports. YMMV since it might depend on the cell towers in your area. VRZ users are SOL.

Question 5g connection

Is someone getting 5g with T-Mobile?
I live in the suburbs of a large Texas city. There's 5G coverage at my house and when I drive around the area. I don't get out a lot these days, but it's mostly 5G with a few pockets of LTE. I haven't done a lot of speed testing, but it has shown to be faster than LTE when the 5G signal is strong.
You make feel better because I thought that the phone 5g doesn't work in the states but must be that Oregon infrastructure is not quite as good yet

Notes: I have the US version of the phone. Measuring on Google Maps, I'm approx 675 ft from the cell tower. All three speed results are from the same tower (used the CellMapper app to verify), and same SIM card, with the 5G and LTE+ speed results from the Sony Xperia 5 III and the 4G speed result from an Asus Zenfone 4 ZE554KL I was upgrading from. In order to get LTE+ on the Sony, I forced the "LTE/WCDMA/GSM" setting.

There's an interesting [web app](https://www.nperf.com/en/map/US/-/85.T-Mobile-inc-Sprint/signal/?ll=45.50249699389715&lg=-122.71728515625001&zoom=9) I found trying to answer this question in Ontario. It shows experimentally gathered hyperlocal data about where within cities different speeds were measured on different providers... I don't know how trustworthy the data is for sure but it seems to suggest 5g coverage often varies wildly within a single city currently.

I bought mine direct from electronics dot sony dot com. They have the green color that Amazon does not carry and they keep doing steep sales. As of this second it is $100 off.
I highly recommend using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.mroczis.netmonster to show what kind of 5G you are connecting to. For example, my S22 Ultra typically does either SA 5G 600MHz (not supported by Sony) or NSA 5G over 1900MHz.

According to T-Mobile frequency bands page: "Frequencies that can provide XR 5G:
Band n71 (600 MHz)".
According to Sony's website, Xperia 5 III specifications page: "5G Band
n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n28, n38, n40, n41, n66, n71, n77, n78".
So by the specs, the phone should be able to handle n71 just fine.
What about in reality? Well, the tower near my house has band n71, and my US Xperia 5 III (Android 12) was just connected to it. I took a cellmapper screenshot, attached.
In summary: 5G 600MHz works fine on US Xperia 5 III.

Question Can the CN Xiaomi 13 be fully support by T-Mobile in the US?

Hi everyone!
I'm considering buying a Xiaomi 13 while I'm still in China and flashing the Xiaomi eu ROM. The CN version is much cheaper than the global one. I'm a T-Mobile customer and wondering if anyone has used a CN Xiaomi 13 in the US before? I came across something interesting. This website actually compares the band coverage difference between the CN and the global version. It seems the CN ones normally get lower coverage, but I still have no idea how bad it could be since I have no idea what type of bands are covering my living area...

I'm also in the US using Google Fi which uses T-Mobile. I'm also dual SIM with ATT.
I ended up getting the Global version because it had more supported bands even though it was more expensive... Ended up getting the 12/256 for $860 on eBay.

The CN versions should function, though you'll likely experience signal outages due to only having a few of the frequencies. If you're looking to use the 13 in the USA, then the global version is what you'll be better off with.
I have a CN version phone and MintMobile (reseller of T-Mobile) SIM. It works fine. Plug & play. No special setting needed.
