T-Mobile USA - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Anyone who already received their OP6 can me tell if they can connect to all the LTE bands including the new LTE band 71. Also how is the reception on the phone

I'll be getting mine tomorrow. So should be able to post up results then. But, the specs on the phone state band 71 is supported. It's just a matter of if 71 is in your area....

No band 71 in my area or I'd test that for you. Otherwise it is working perfectly on T-Mobile for me

I can't confirm what bands it was using, but I was able to get 120Mb/s via a LTE speedtest. I also confirmed VoLTE and WiFi calling work without issue.

No problems here with VoWiFi or VoLTE either on T-Mobile
And while doing a 2nd LTE speedtest I received a phone call, so did test while talking on the phone

How did you get WiFi calling, found it

So far no difference in signal strength or performance of the OnePlus 6 compared to my Samsung Galaxy S9 or iPhone X.

Not too bad. But how do you know band are we connect to?

download app called cellmapper https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cellmapper.net.cellmapper&hl=en_US

I am on TMobile US and have been using WiFi calling and HD VoLTE. I haven't seen band 71 yet, but I don't know if it's in my area. Another app that works to check bands is LTE Discovery - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.simplyadvanced.ltediscovery

I would also like to know if there is anything extra you have to do to turn on Wi-Fi calling.

I thought there was no 1800 but it's a GSM band so it's 2G. https://support.t-mobile.com/thread/92908

No band 3 is aws lte 1800 and we had band 12 4 and 2 and three blows them out the water
I guess it is a extension of band 4 that is a over flow of band 66 what makes it band 3 aws do sorry I was misinformed.

Since I don't see the OnePlus 6 in the T-Mobile store, I'm assuming there is no T-Mobile-specific hardware/software version (as is typical with Samsung)?
Please confirm that OnePlus 6 could be bought from OnePlus store, and by following the above steps, all T-mobile features would be available? (Wi-Fi Calling, VoLTE, Tethering)

I bought my op6 from OnePlus store. I'm on T-Mobile in North Carolina and I enabled Volte & WiFi Calling via those steps. I see the tethering/mobile hotspot setting as well but I've not tested it.

Yes this phone connects to all of T-Mobiles towers it has even more bands then the T-Mobile s9+ that's why I got ride of that phone and got this one.

Teathering works

Oneplus one on Koodo, no LTE

I've tried everything! Have the 16gb version, edited apns, deleted certain areas, re added. Checked info screen.
I got lte on my nexus 4 with the exact same settings from koodo. Not sure why the oneplus won't pick it up..
Probably have the Chinese version which lacks the LTE bands for koodo. LTE well only work with Rogers or Fido on the Chinese version.

I'm not familiar with the Canadian bands, but you have to look at the Chinese OPO and compare that with the Koodo LTE bands.
It could be possible that your friend has the Chinese version and is able to get LTE on Bell but not on Koodo or he has international which works.
Do the research and see if its compatible to begin with.

Mobile services provided by Koodo use Telus Mobility's CDMA, HSPA+ and LTE networks. CDMA devices, however, have been discontinued by Koodo outside of Northern Ontario and Manitoba.[9] Koodo Mobile's CDMA and HSPA networks use the 800 MHz and 1900 MHz frequencies while their LTE network uses 1700/2100 MHz (AWS).

Here's a list of LTE bands that North American companies use.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks#Americas
It looks like Bell uses LTE bands 4,7,and 17 while Koodo(which is owned by Telus) only has band 4. If the back of your phone doesn't have Cyanogen written at the bottom then you have the chinese model. I'm sure Telus may eventually roll out more LTE bands but for now you might be out of luck.

VoLTE on T-Mobile ??

Any info if the XZ will support VoLTE on t-Mobile?
According to the list from the link below the X Performance and any other phone before it did not.
http://www.spectrumgateway.com/compatible-phones
Probably not! Screw you Sony.
I have had the same issue with my Z5C. In practice, I don't think I've noticed not having VoLTE. But, I also don't use my phone for a lot of talking each month. And, I do live in a big city, so I get fine coverage on 3G.
yeah, it's not just VoLTE, it's also AMR-WB (HD-Voice), and WiFi calling. I don't believe the XZ will have any of this compatible with T-Mobile or any NA carrier for that matter.
To get that, sony would have to work with carrier. And I don't see the carrier would work with sony.
To be honest I didn't expect anything different. Hopefully Sony will spend the time and money to get VoLTE certified on T-Mobile and AT&T.

Its slower than 2G as it can't open webpages. Maybe T-Mobile is shutting down 3G !?
My zx switches to H during calls as well, same as my Nexus 6p. I have flashed the UK firmware in order to activate the fingerprint sensor. My icon says 4g when not on calls but from what I've read that is still lte, just A change from the uk firmware. Lte discovery app confirms being on band 4 and 12. I have no lte calling or WiFi calling. I have ordered the cellspot to increase my signal.
I'll have my phone in a couple hours and do a little testing. I have 3G on AWS and 1900 in my area, so it shouldn't be unusable.
Does anyone know how the T-mobile VoLTE certification process works? XZ is an FCC VoLTE certified device but T-Mobile doesn't give it access to VoLTE.

Kinda funny that the Xperia XZ lacks Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE on T-Mobile while the recently announced LeEco phones support both. (I'm a beta tester..) Honestly, I expect way more than this from Sony. I guess I'll keep hoping and waiting to see if they ever get their act together.
I just flashed the Deutsche Telekom ROM and had WiFi calling and VoLTE for about two minutes. After two minutes I got a notification stating that my phone will reboot to optimize for my wireless provider.
What a shame. There is no way to get VoLTE or WiFi calling without Sony certifying the XZ with T-Mobile,.
XZ unbranded, 7.0 39.2.A.0.374 updated, no VoLTE option, no HD call.
Z5 Compact, 6.01, VoLTE option in "settings, plus, networks", HD call!
French carrier SFR, I don't know if VoLTE is in use...
Any way to force VoLTE?

T-mobile 5G and unlocked Note 20 ultra

Hello there!
So anyone with a Note 20 unlocked variant and T-mobile service can confirm what does it say under settings, About phone, Status, Sim card Status and mobile network ? Mine says LTE but at the top says 5g and I know how carriers like to show off "fake5g" so I'm just curious if thats how the phone is or maybe I need a new sim or something.
I like about 10 mins from downtown Atlanta and I know T-mobile is really strong here so I'm not sure about 5G yet.

Here's mine, I'm not using 5G as it's a battery hog.
You are actually getting 5G with T-Mo. Do a speedtest with both. In Santa Clarita my 5G is twice as fast as 4G, and Speedtest.net reports it as 5G.

I did a speed test at home where I usually get 13-17 Mbps on LTE, on 5G the single test I ran got 65Mbps. It can be turned on and off as needed around the house. At home I use wifi mostly as it's 120Mbps and doesn't eat the battery as fast as 5G did.
I have Metro which is Tmobile and I'm getting 5g. Speed test app shows it as 5g also.

My 5G is like 12Mbps and my 4G is about 60Mbps. It's unfortunate! I can't wait for 5G to get better. In a nearby town, I got 142Mbps!
My 5G changes daily from 8 to 140 depends on the time of day in the same area. 5G on tmobile is also their home internet service. In my area outside Atlantic City is always being worked on by sub contractors working on all three carriers. The old building I use to run which is 7 stories had antennas changed before they could rust from weather. Technology is moving as fast as the weather.

Cyberpunk 2077 AT&T 5G in US?

Good evening all!
I'm kind of confused. The Cyberpunk 2077 edition of the phone is said to have Standard 5G FDD5G: 2600, 2100, 1800, 700 which I don't think AT&T supports, however, my phone appears to be connecting to the AT&T 5G network. Am I mistaken and does this phone have the capabilities of connecting to AT&T's 5G bands?
Thank you for your help!

The screenshot shows 5G. I see my phone go from LTE to LTE+ to 5G. On my S20 Ultra and my Galaxy Fold2 I didn't have the option to select connections (where others in other parts of the world could) and was able to connect to AT&T 5G.
Hmmmm, I didn't notice the 5G by the signal bars. Where are you located? Did you have to do anything like threaten AT&T to let you get 5G? Is it something you can select as an option in the settings? Sorry for all the questions but I am located just north of Houston and I have talked with AT&T a few times now and they say I should have 5G but it is not selectable in the phone, nor does it ever show up next to the signal bars.
I get 5g on T-Mobile US but as we know these are just improved 4g speeds and not true 5g speeds using MM wave

I am located in California near San Fransisco. I am able to connect to 5G in certain parts of the city. I was able to connect to 5G when I upgraded my plan to the Unlimited Elite plan. For this phone I had to go to *#*#4636#*#* and select the NR/LTE/TDSCDMA/GSM network type and that allowed me to connect to 5G. By default the option is set to LTE/GSM only and not the option with NR. I have to change the preferred network type every time I reset though.

Thanks for the answers. I am already on the unlimited elite plan myself. I am aware of the setting you mention that has to be redone after every reboot. I have done it several times but it has never resulted in me getting any 5G signal...that I am aware of. I never saw the 5G next to my signal bars. Maybe it would work in different areas of the city but from my home it makes no difference. Maybe there is no 5G antennas in my local area??? The only other thing is the SIM card I am using. I was using it in my OnePlus 7-Pro and when I received the 8T I just swapped it over to the new phone. Everything works OK and according to AT&T I do not need a new SIM...but I do wonder. Did you get a new SIM after switching to the Elite plan, or did you just swap the one you already had? Other than that I have no idea why I am not getting any 5G..not that it is any better than LTE in real world use! So maybe I need a new SIM, or I just do not have a 5G signal right where I live.
AT&T uses one of the 5G bands that oneplus supports. YMMV since it might depend on the cell towers in your area. VRZ users are SOL.

Question Can the CN Xiaomi 13 be fully support by T-Mobile in the US?

Hi everyone!
I'm considering buying a Xiaomi 13 while I'm still in China and flashing the Xiaomi eu ROM. The CN version is much cheaper than the global one. I'm a T-Mobile customer and wondering if anyone has used a CN Xiaomi 13 in the US before? I came across something interesting. This website actually compares the band coverage difference between the CN and the global version. It seems the CN ones normally get lower coverage, but I still have no idea how bad it could be since I have no idea what type of bands are covering my living area...

I'm also in the US using Google Fi which uses T-Mobile. I'm also dual SIM with ATT.
I ended up getting the Global version because it had more supported bands even though it was more expensive... Ended up getting the 12/256 for $860 on eBay.

The CN versions should function, though you'll likely experience signal outages due to only having a few of the frequencies. If you're looking to use the 13 in the USA, then the global version is what you'll be better off with.
I have a CN version phone and MintMobile (reseller of T-Mobile) SIM. It works fine. Plug & play. No special setting needed.
