Out-of-the blue my phone rebooted while doing nothing (no new ROM or anything) and got into a bootloop. If I try to enter recovery, it will only show TWRP splash but after 0.5 second, it will reboot automatically. Same for fastboot, I do see the fastboot logo, but again after 0.5 second it will reboot. After some time, the battery ran out, and also the charging screen when plugging the phone in while switched off shows bootloop: 0.5 second of battery screen and bootloops there as well.
I tried MiFlash, aiming to start the flashing very quickly once I enter fastboot, but although it starts uploading stuff (so it does make a connection), it again crashes after 0.5 second again.
There are no Xiaomi service centers in my country and the phone is out-of-warranty. I still would love to revive it, but am out of ideas on how to achieve this if the bootloop seems to be so extremely persistent.
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Hey, I have the exact same issue. Did you ever find a solution about it? Boot looping every few seconds and no fast boot or recovery.
Just in case this can help someone, seems like there was a bad contact on the power button leaving it pressed? I blew some compressed air on the power button opening and it stopped rebooting.

My problem looked exactly like this!
I did not even open the case, just blew air around power button. Now a few weeks later, the phone still works fine. Maybe I blew the stuff deeper into the phone doing it like this? Anyway, as long as it doesn't come back, I'm happy. And if it would come back, there is still the option of opening it.
I tried pushing compressed air without opening the phone but still facing the same issue. Anyone tried opening and succeeded by cleaning the power button or solved this by another method?

Hi guys,
I have a little problem where my phone's power button will not function in any way, long presses, short, almost embedding my thumb in it, all to no avail. This is doubly dissapointing as I have just installed the latest dexter plus patch to fix the problem. I still had the problem on the previous version and I thought a clean start may fix it. The only way I can get the screen on is to press the media play button! Which of course isn't doing anything on dexter.
Hunches:
I have been playing with a light sensor program and using a 3 second press to turn the phone off, I am only thinking this is related as when I re-installed then turned off the phone using a battery pull, that now the media gallery button will now not work at all, so that is a change.
Second, the power button is buggered. Seems unlikely as everthing feels normal, no big drops have occurred from heights, and the button is travelling in and out as usual.
I have also noticed that as soon as I re-insert a battery that the phone starts immediately, the M pops up as if it is already posting. So maybe it is stuck down?? Again, I don't think so, as the mechanism is working per usual.
If anyone can help it would be fantastic, you guys haven't let me down yet, and this thing is purring, but unfortunately I cannot use it lol. Just my luck.

Another thing is happening, the phone screen turns on "after" pressing the power button, it may be once or a few times, and then pressing the gallery button.?!?!
Also, at random times it plays a podcast on my phone, the exact same podcast, and from the start, though the duration may be a few seconds then repeat, or it may go for ages, its quite a rude podcast too which has caused me to throw my phone under the car seat to shut it up when people have been trying to talk to me, as you can imagine its quite embarassing.
There are no services or apps running that I can find related to music, it may happen after pressing the camera button, or opening a website.
It is still going really fast though. And I have also reinstalled the light sensor program so I can turn it on and off without causing damage to the power button.

sure, so the only way I can get the screen to turn back on, after turning off as per display power saving preferences, is by pressing the power button, maybe a couple of times, then following that up by pressing the gallery button next to the shutter button, pressing the gallery button doesn't seem to be working to turn the screen on now, but this combo is.

Yeah I think I may have to.
Before I do., I was reading a post on a different forum where another person was having a similar issue. They seemed to solve the problem by using rom manager to boot to a manual restore menu where there was a button tester section, after using it the power button worked for them. I tried but after resetting it displayed a triangle graphic then rebooted.
Is there any way to do this with our open recovery program or any other utility to test the functionality or maybe reset the button or apply a patch etc.

Getting Frustrating
Alright so I followed your advice on your videos on how to reflash to stock, so of course my bootloader does not show up the same as yours on the video. I can get to the bootloader fine, using the button combo or by using quick boot > bootloader, both have the exact same result, the boot loader screens as follows:

Also, my computer using rsdlite does not acknowledge the phone, not omap drivers loading etc. Followed your instructions exactly.
This is frustrating me to no end lol.
I am guessing that because I can get to the bootloader with combo no problem, that the buttons physical connections are working.. At least thats a positive.
Can I flash to stock with openrecovery? Or maybe to an earlier version of Dexters froyo? Other ideas?
Any help would be much appreciated guys, trying to use this phone at work with light sensors to turn off screen is not as easy as they say. OMG....

The fastboot bootloader isn't the right one. So... if you hold volume up + camera shutter while powering on you end up in fastboot? That's really weird.
Maybe your keys have been remapped somehow? Does anyone know a chord to boot fastboot? Perhaps check to see if your USB port is clean?

Just my luck to have a weird problem. I thought it may have been remapped so I have been trying the program buttonremap. It doesn't seem to let me do anything except stop the buttons I re assign doing anything :'(

Ok installed anyunlock it allows you to use any physical button to unlock the screen. It doesn't respond when the Power button is pressed, it responded fine to volume rockers, gallery and shutter though.
Anyone know if this would mean for sure its a physical problem before I crack it open and try and fix it.

Breakthrough!
I am pretty sure I have fixed the problem, I tapped the phone fairly hard on its sides and back, and lo and behold after a battery pull and replacement it didn't turn itself on, I waited, nothing, so then I held the power button and it started up!!!!
But....I have another problem that happened before that, I am stuck in the boot animation that open recovery uses before going into its program (i.e. where you can load nandroid, wipe dalvik cache etc).
I was about to load a new rom, and was in open recovery, had installed it and about to do the reset and the phone turned itself off, and thats when I got the problem with the sticking boot animation.
So just to be clear, I am stuck in a boot loop, but not with the M logo, the restore logo.
I hope the power button solution can help someone else, as random as it is.
If anyone could help me get out of this boot loop without flashing stock that would be great. ( i can get to the real bootloader now btw)

So, is your conclusion is that the button was stuck and the banging freed it? It doesn't restick?
The Button is not perfect still. Sometimes over sensitive Occasionally it will not even work but it works most of the time. I am just wondering what cleaning solution I could use to free it some more.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Power Button Not Working
Hi Guys,
Any solution for the power button problem? Current latest Android 2.3.3 Samsung Galaxy S2 also having the same power button problem. Most of the time I can't use my power button to turn on/off the screen (wake/sleep) and there's no menu for long tap as well. Luckily it does wake when i press the only physical Samsung center button.
What i have already tried: Factory Reset, disable Power Saving Mode, Spare Part+ (apps), Screen Off and Lock (apps), and all won't help.
Is there any current updates or patches to allow the power button to work as usual?

won't help because this is the 3rd phone replacement from the shop with the same problem. 100% Android software problem.
My phone runs perfectly fine until I enable Gps location. Once I enable GPS location, it freezes, then it reboots my phone and it slowly do a system check, then it continuously rebooting the lg logo screen. I tried taking out the battery and put it back in, even took out my battery for a day and it still does the same. I'm not sure if it's the hardware problem, but it's a pretty rare case, since I read most of the threads in forums, people said it can be fix once you pull out the battery, but somehow it's not working for me. Anyone knows the reason why? Btw, my phone is not rooted or used any 3rd party program.
Ah. Posted too soon. There's a master reset that I believe is Power and Volume Up. Try that.
Unfortunately, it's still not working. Is there any other possible way? Or else I have to call in and return it.
Try turning off the phone, then press power + vol down and hold it until you see the word android. This should do the factory reset.

It sounds like the permissions are not correct, or perhaps that your ROM was not flashed correctly. I have seem this problem happen numerous times due to bad firmware flashes or ROM issues. I would just download a new copy of the latest CM 7 ROM or whatever your favorite ROM is and flash it through CWM.

Bought a Nexus 5 about 6 months ago USED. It has been amazing. I got the latest OTA a week ago or so, not sure if that has anything to do with current issues.
About 2 days ago started randomly restarting. Today, it shut down and has been in continuous loop restarting. I see "Google" and maybe even the boot dots loading, then it is off. Three seconds later, starts again and repeats. Never makes it all the way into Android system. I let it sit for a while and when I pick it up, without touching any buttons, it repeats all of this. I suppose it is probably dead in general, but I don't know. Do you guys have any ideas? Again, I bought it used and from a ma/pap store who said they buy 100 in bulk, which made me skeptical, but they also had a 60 day guarantee and it was amazing the first 60 days and even after. It has been error free for 6 months, so I don't know if this is just a random issue or if the previous owner dropped it in a lake and I got lucky, or what. FWIW the damn thing has been in a case and never dropped, so it isn't anything that I have done I don't think. Thanks for any help.

Another user reported some instability since the last OTA update.
Flashing the full factory images did the trick.
a friend of mine gave me his nexus 5 to repair and its doing something similar. He had ir rooted and on latest 5.1.1 (i think). Either way, he said it was randomly locking up and rebooting. When i got it it had the red blinking light when plugged so i got a new battery. That got fixed but then the constant bootloop showed itself. I flashed TWRP (many versions, 2.6.3.1; 2.7.1.1; 2.8.7.1; the one that worked best was 2.7.1.1). So, once in twrp wiped, pushed cm 12 snapshot, flashed it, pushed gapps, falshed, pushe supersu flashed. Started the system. That precise order of things (ie: pushing flashing, then pushing something new and flashing it) was what gave me best results to actually boot up at least once. Once booted up and logging in and everything to cm i had some sort of stability (even rebooting and powering off) but i think that everything went wrong when i plugged the phone to the computer and it was back to bootloops and not even getting to the recovery. Flashed everything again. Didnt work. Had to leave the phone sit for a while (without the back casing) before trying again, in order, before getting any success. Im starting to think of ovrheating but it doesnt even get that hot...
Dunno if you guys have any ideas on this. Or if i can give you mor details to help us out.

I've had one of my Nexus 5 phones running OmniROM 5.1.1 for some time now, very stably. After trying out the Marshmallow preview and going back to that ROM, I started having spontaneous hard reboots and hard crashes. The phone would often boot loop before even getting to the OmniROM boot animation. It was also very recalcitrant about entering and staying in the boot loader, rebooting spontaneously shortly after rendering the boot loader screen. I was occasionally able to "grab" control long enough to get it to boot into TWRP, from which a boot to Android seemed to usually get it out of the loop and into running Android.
I've flashed back the boot loader and baseband from factory-stock 5.1.1 LMY48M (HHZ12h and 2.0.50.2.26) using the flash-base.sh script from a freshly downloaded and extracted hammerhead-lmy48m. Things appeared to be OK last evening and this morning, but things got worse today.
Now the phone is in a state where it is not responsive to the power button when unplugged. I can hold it down for 30 seconds with no response.
If I plug in USB, it spontaneously starts rebooting, not showing more than about two seconds of the Google boot loader screen. If I hold the down-volume button, I can get the boot-loader screen, but no matter how fast I try to be, I can't select anything more than "Restart bootloader" (or "Power off") option before it spontaneously reboots (to boot loader).
As far as I know, the battery had a significant charge before this started happening.
I see the same behavior if the phone is connected to a USB charging source, rather than a USB port.
I've tried pulling the SIM, but that doesn't change the behavior.
adb wait-for-device never returns, so poking it over adb doesn't seem to be an option.
fastboot devices also doesn't see the phone, for the brief time the boot loader is running.
Any suggestions on how to get this into the boot loader so I can at least re-flash it?

In retrospect, I had noticed over the last few days that the phone didn't seem to respond properly to the power button, either "ignoring" it, or when a second press got things started, it would unexpectedly come up with the long-press-volume menu.

Ok @jeffsf keep going on this thread. I had the same damn experience, that ended with RMA. LG said that the problem is related to some tension change in the power button. After the RMA I used the phone totally stock and never had a problem. Two months ago I switched to blu_spark kernel and some weeks after i noticed some problem. When I pressed the button to lock the screen, phone locked itself and then screen turned on, sometimes showing the shutdown option. So i understood that something was happening to the power button. I tried to overvolt with a +5mV on general offset and since then i never had problem. If you can enter recovery or bootloader i suggest you to flash some kernel with volt change support and then overvolt the general offset... and keep finger crossed

I got a notification for this post since you quoted me. I'm not sure if you're having the same problem but I'll tell you what happened to me, just in case. I called T-Mobile and they referred me to the nearest 3rd party phone repair shop. I went there and after an evaluation, the repairman told me the power button on my phone was indeed broken. They replaced it for $55.
The story doesn't end there though. I took my phone home and a few hours later I tried to use bluetooth and it didn't work. I took it back and found out that unfortunately, when the guy replaced the power button, he inadvertently broke the bluetooth. There's no way to fix bluetooth without replacing the motherboard entirely, which would cost $200. I'd rather buy a new phone at that point since my Nexus 5 was getting old. He refunded me, which was nice. At least the power button worked so I could use my phone. Bluetooth isn't as valuable as being able to you know, turn on the phone, so at least it was a net gain.
After that, I purchased a Nexus 6 and rooted it so I could use double-tap-to-wake (along with the automatic screen on when you pick up the Nexus 6). I also use the following app in order to turn off the screen by swiping up from the home button (I don't care about losing the shortcut to Google Now): Screen Off and Lock
I can now literally go weeks without using the power button on my Nexus 6. (I literally only use it when tap to wake sometimes becomes unresponsive which is rare.)
Bottom line: I will never buy another phone without tap to wake functionality! :good:
A local repair shop here indicated that one sometimes does changing the power switch resolve the issue. They have seen situations where the issue appears to be one of the power-management ICs. Just something to be aware of when examining the potential cost of a repair and who you would have do the work.
I'm a serial lurker here and hate to ask for help, but want to reach out (and finally start hitting thanks).
My N5 was on MMB29S 6.0.1, SuperSU version 2.65 for root, xposed v79 (gravitybox, APM+, snapprefs), and ran perfectly fine up until a few weeks ago when I started having issues. Apps would sometimes FC, and (not always right after) system would hang and then reset. Sometimes the screen would go black but notification light still would blink.
Upon reset, it would either (a) get stuck at google screen and bootloop or (b) get stuck at some point during the boot animation. If the phone did start, it would usually work for a variable amount of time - minutes, hours, but usually not more than a day. Other times, the phone simply would not start and required a slowly increasing amount of time to boot while holding down the power button, sometimes not even booting at all. The phone would sometimes be unresponsive to holding the power button for up to 12 hours before the phone booted up again. Not saying I help the power button that long, but tried frequently over that period of time.
Over the past few days I've taken to troubleshooting in the ways I could think of and what I've read here on xda (I can link to any of the threads if you are curious) and the rest of the web. I started by disabling xposed, restoring stock boot image and removing root, and have since flashed completely to stock MMB29V and have followed the advice of @audit13 to even flash the userdata.img file and perform a factory wipe before booting the phone for the first time.
Nothing works. Even after being bone stock now there are still random resets, with the power button having to be held down for quite some time to power back on (if at all). The only difference is that it hasn't been getting stuck on the boot animation when it does power on.
I'm a bit sad, and realizing that this is probably the end of the line for my venerable Nexus 5, but any help/suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance!
Download the Nexus Root Toolkit for your computer to try to restore your Nexus.
Could be a power button issue that's causing the resets? Have you tried removing the motherboard and quickly pressing and releasing the power button several times in a row using more pressure than normal?

I have yet to try that, but will try that in the next couple days. Might not get to it tomorrow as I have an upcoming exam.
I'm not completely sure if that's it though since the system seems to hang/freeze before powering down, but I can give it a shot. Thank you for the idea!

It started when I wanted to replace the battery. I have been replacing it in another nexus 5, done it gently, with plastic tools. And that's what happened - constant boot loop. Only thing that appear are battery charging image and white Google text, restart and over and over... nothing more (android colorful text/logo) doesn't appear.
Firstly I've read that it might be a problem with a power button, that it's stuck inside and making these constant loops. I tried to gently make a taps and flicks on the phone but it wasn't helpful. I accessed motherboard, took it off and checked the button, it seemed fine. But I took it to a mobile service place, and they replaced the button. But that didn't help.
I can't power it on when it's not connected to the charger or PC. It doesn't even start looping when not connected via cable to anything. On the bootloader screen I can go up and down using volume keys, but when i try to access "Recovery menu" it turns off and start looping. Even trying to use "power off" option makes it loop.
So I flashed it using factory image from google: 6.0.1 (M4B30Z, Dec 2016) (hammerhead-m4b30z-factory-625c027b).
I did it manually, on bootloader screen, entering all these fastboot commands. one by one. Everything seemed fine, all flashed with success. Already was happy! But after rebooting, it's still bootlooping
I installed TWRP recovery img to it, (successfully), and tried to access recovery menu, but also started looping.
I don't know what to do anymore. I've read so many threads and I think everywhere problem disappeared after successful flashing. I tried also this method:

So I flashed it using factory image from google: 6.0.1 (M4B30Z, Dec 2016) (hammerhead-m4b30z-factory-625c027b).
I did it manually, on bootloader screen, entering all these fastboot commands. one by one. Everything seemed fine, all flashed with success. Already was happy! But after rebooting, it's still bootlooping
I installed TWRP recovery img to it, (successfully), and tried to access recovery menu, but also started looping.
I don't know what to do anymore. I've read so many threads and I think everywhere problem disappeared after successful flashing. I tried also this method:

Since it doesn't even react to power button on both batteries, is there some bigger hardware problem with a motherboard? A battery connector socket on motherboard is broken or something?

Have you tried putting the original battery back in it? Does it not correctly only when plugged in to a charger cable? Idk how but it seems either something bad happened to your emmc or there's something not plugged in correctly to the motherboard and something may have happened to whatever piece(s) that is. I'd just take everything out and put it back together, I had to do that when I replaced my screen, it's a pain in the ass but it worked again. Hopefully I could help you, or even give u a clue as to what it is
Try flashing 4.4.2 or an older stock ROM.

I did it now. On both batteries it doesn't even power on. Only on a cable plugged it it starts bootlooping, when disconnecting, it powers off.
I checked all the connectors and sockets on mainboard, especially the one connecting battery and they doesn't seem anyhow broken (but I'm not any tech specialist so..)

I used now 4.4 (KRT16M). No result, still boot looping
