Hi OxygenOS gurus,
My OnePlus 8 (IN2013 currently running v10.5.12.IN21AA) is now starting to regularly throw up what to me appears Java exception crash overlays on the screen which I can't seem to clear until I reboot the phone.
In the example below, I wasn't even using the Google translate app and it just threw up the app process details so should I be reporting this & what's the best way?
I have already tried resetting all the app preferences from the settings menu & rebooted the phone (+volume down) to clear the data & cache but the issue still persists. Any further troubleshooting assistance would be greatly appreciated and is there a way to clear the process overlay without rebooting the phone?

Thanks Scott for your prompt reply.
I don't believe I've ever gone in & made any changes to the developer options so I've gone in and turned on the Developer options from the system menu and everything appears to be 'greyed' out except for:
Verify bytecode of debuggable apps
Wi-Fi scan throttling
Just in case something has been accidentally enabled, is there a way to reset all the developer options back to factory defaults?

Yes, if you turn Dev Options off it disables whatever was enabled. But that doesn't seem to be the issue for you because you just turned it on. I'm lost on this one.
The only thing I can think of is this... Did you go into the dial pad and enter any special codes? Like *#*#*# type codes? The other guess is you have some sort of debug app on your phone.

Hi Scott,
I think you may have helped me solve the mystery as sometime ago I downloaded the OnePlusLogKit to enable voLTE using the Function Switch. One of the four options available is "Red screen assertion" which in my case appears to be open. Since my only choice here is to either 'close the red screen' or 'clear red screen', I think this matches the following similar forum link I stumbled across:
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/sudden-red-screen-with-commands.814845/
I'll monitor it over the next few days but thanks for your troubleshooting so far!

So here's a weird one all!
All of a sudden my pattern lock which has been I'm effect changes back to swipe to unlock without me touching it.
I do have a new Bluetooth device and I thought I might have selected this to unlock my device when near but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Effectively I can come backto my device after a while and my pattern lock is no longer in affect and is I stead replaced with swipe to unlock.
Has anyone ever had this?

Maybe you have some settings turned on - under lock screen/smart lock. Try turning off all the smart lock functions there, maybe it will solve the problem.

nope, it's all turned off and it's just happened again

I know it's painful, but try doing a factory reset and check if it happens then. If it does, I'd send it for repairs to LG.
Thanks for the response, but I really don't think that's a fix. I'm still guessing this is something to do with Smart Lock, but I'm not sure where else to look as I thought this was turned off (and it shows as off) in the settings.
It would be worth noting that I'd already done a factory reset recently.....there is no evidence that this would rectify the issue...I believe it might be app/setting related.
Anyone any ideas?
Right it's definitely not a bluetooth device as I turned bluetooth off and it just did it again!

Does this happen in the same location each time? eg. at home
or has this happened in multiple places?
I'm just thinking it might be that you yourself or google have set a home location and that somehow the smart lock settings are picking that up and unlocking for you.
I've had this phone since launch day and I've never come accross this happening before.
You're rooted? If you have a bit of time and you're rooted, you can do a full titanium backup, reset and check if it's still happening. If it does, it's not app related, just your phone being weird and most probably in need of a reflash : D
If smart lock's disabled, it shouldn't do that, regardless if he had set a home location or not.
One more thing, if you can and you're willing, give us a list of apps you've got installed. I'm no expert, but I'm sure we can find a solution if we brainstorm hard enough.
Thanks for the responses guys.
This has happened in multiple locations for a start. Rather strange I grant you.
I am rooted and I could do a test but either way I'd like to know what had actually caused this...
As for apps... See attached. Nothing brand new though that I recall.

Sorry mate, no idea The only thing that comes to mind is that android wear software, but I assume that's the bluetooth device you mentioned.
basically as the title says. mainly this is important as last pass needs it on and so does Kakao talk (for notifications!)
there are a tone of suggested solutions on google, but the setting menus for the main one (disable "app optimization") do not exist on the phone (Settings > Apps > Advanced Options > Ignore Optimizations)
the other, simply add it to "protected app" list, but this does not work! both when clearing the app tray and when rebooting the phone.
so, the question: WHAT THE ACTUAL [email protected]#$
there has to be a way to do this, phone specs are bellow. Please for the love of god help me!

Hi I have also experienced this exact same annoying problem and after hours of googling and frustration I didn't find a solution.
If anyone finds a solution please advise.
I am on GEM-703L B212 stock unrooted.
EDIT: I also tried the "Ignore App Optimization" and "Protected App" options and it didn't do anything.
Bump
same problem here, for some aps like macrodroid (needs2 one stays other is turing itself off), system2, some others
On anything B212 I don't have that issue anymore. If you're rooted try moving the app you're having trouble with from data/app to system/app, set the proper permissions and then restart your phone. I use the OnePlus Gestures app and without moving it to /system is always has issues and it turns itself off in accessibility.
So I moved from a Note4 to this Find X2. In my previous phone, I had a setting to display a custom message in the lock screen "If you find this phone please call...". When yesterday I set my new FindX2 I was prompted to move my previous android configuration to the new one. So I did.
Now, I want to remove this message as I noticed it is wrong, it says to call to my own number, which, if phone is found, they would be ringing the phone itself... So anyway, I dont need the message there. You guessed it, there is no option (as far as I searched) to removed this setting. If any of you can lend me a hand on this... I wouldn't like to restart the whole setting and configuration from scratch again.. Please let me know if you know how to delete this message. Thanks.

Yeah that option doesn't exist. I miss it. You may need to do a factory reset to get rid of it..

What...? Seriously this is an issue they should solve. It makes no sense to import a setting that can't be set anymore.

I have a message on my Find X2 Pro too after moving from a OnePlus 6T.
Hopefully the option will appear on an update. If not, factory reset seems to be the only option.
I did a factory reset and didn't import anything this time, having to manually set some stuff.
Too bad, oppo, they even didn't reply as costumer service.
Hello all,
In need of your kind help. I'm unable to disable the Emergency Alerts messages on my unlocked A71 5G with a T-Mobile SIM.
I need to disable them because this is a phone I take to school and don't want to be in the middle of a class with the phone going crazy
with the different emergency alerts we get in Texas almost every single day.
I already tried to follow the online instructions for the specific phone and network:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
But when I get to it, the option is grayed out and won't let me turn it off:
What else do I need to do disable these alerts?
Thanks.

Thank you. I see several apps with those names will try the ones with best reviews.
This one works. Not on playwhore
Home - Package Disabler
The only NON-root solution that let’s you disable any unwanted packages that come pre-installed / installed with your phone / tablet.

It's nice because you can disable/enable on the fly. Helpful when troubleshooting. Can completely clear data including null marks that you can't clear in settings; it can repair some system apks that otherwise would require a factory reset because of this.
Has a interactive widget that lets you toggle on/off preselected apks. Low battery consumption.
It will run in safe mode so be a bit careful what you disable. I never had to do a factory reset because of this app but the only way to disable it is in Security under Device Admin Apps.
You can disable emergency alerts directly in Settings, not through notifications. Go to Settings -> Notifications -> Advanced Settings. Here, go into "Wireless Emergency Alerts" on the bottom of the page. You can directly disable and customize the alerts.
Thank you, my problem was that the phone was brand new an unused for almost a year so there were several updates missing to the OS and once the phone was up to date I had the option to disable the emergency alerts.
Thanks again.
I don't know the official name for the stylized image of a fingerprint that you touch to unlock the phone with your finger. But sometimes it displays in the wrong place when trying to unlock an app, for instance google pay or bitwarden password manager. It displays a little bit lower than the sensor location, so that if I put my finger on the image, it doesn't work. If I put my finger a bit above the image, it works. It always displays in the correct place for unlocking the phone. Here are some pics showing the problem. I put a stickie on the screen lined up to the bottom of the sensor. The first one is to unlock the phone. The second is when unlocking google pay and the third shows when I put a finger above the image. You can see how the bright white circle that lights up when you touch the sensor is in the correct place. I wonder if this is the same on the Pixel 6 and is one of the reasons that these phones have a reputation for unreliable fingerprint recognition.

I had this on day one after messing with the "Display cutout" settings in "Developer Options". I was unable to fix the issue but didn't spend too much time on it as I was just getting ready to unlock the bootloader which requires a wipe anyway. The wipe ultimately fixed the issue for me, and I haven't touched those settings since.
Perhaps try messing with the "Display cutout" settings, maybe it'll resolve the issue after some combination of changes.

I've never gone into developer options, so that can't be the cause for me. I'm running a completely stock phone. When I was first trying to figure out what was happening, I was having the problem and I reboooted and that seemed to fix the problem for a day or two and then it came back. Then I rebooted a few times, but the problem was not fixed those times.
Fwiw...I noticed the damn 'fingerprint' sorta hops 'round in a circular pattern during fingerprint enrollment...thought I was seein' things!
Any way to fix it, in all the app it appears wrong
