1. Notification problem not fixed as far as I can tell.
2. Too early to tell as I just installed it.
3. Too early to tell
4. Some bloatware, Hot Apps and Hot Games. Still looking for anything else.
5. Will update my experience in the next few days.
This is a real shame and I'm going to have to start looking for another phone since this may be the last update we receive. Why they wouldn't address the notification problem is baffling.

It really is time to get the new phone. I'm looking at note10+ atm. Vivo Nex is such a beast, still today, but the software, locked bootloader and slow updates are really getting on my nerves for quite some time. Such a shame, imagine nex with other ROMs...

Agreed in hardware vivo nex is one of the best especially the coolest s845 among all phones i've tried. Its infamous software is undoubtly agreed by the majority in this forum.
BTW: The worst software maintenance I have ever had is ASUS. Just a quick tip for those concerning software update quality.

I'm not willing to pay $1,300+ for a phone and I don't like punch holes etc, even though it would sync perfectly with my Tab S6.

It's funny you say that because I'll probably be getting the Zenfone 7 Pro. I had a Zenfone 2 and had zero issues with it. The Zenfone 7 meets all my requirements especially the full screen. But in addition a huge battery, NFC, all the 5G bands and it's US/Taiwanese so a lot more secure than the Chinese phones I've been using exclusively for the past 7 years.

I can't stand the punch hole fad, that is one of the reasons I love my NEX. Here where I live note10+ is around 700-800$ and the newest note20 ultra is around 1300$ which is crazy to pay for a phone. And it's not worth it anyway, it's almost the same as note10+. I just need a phone close to 7" display, no punch hole and 90hz+. Can't find any, closest is oneplus 7t pro, but it's basically the same as NEX.
Mate 20x 5g seems like a nice phone...

That's why I'm seriously considering the Zenfone 7. It's got everything I need including 90hz. I don't use or need wireless charging (especially with a 5000mah battery) or waterproofing. They've also committed to two years of updates which is good enough for me. One more thing (from when I had the old one) is a very active forum and good customer service unlike Vivo.

My experience is Padfone S, the most horrible things in the world. For hardware part, the screen dies (after 360 days of purchase) right before warranty ends (365 days). They should have timed better so that I need to change my phone after 366 days.
For software part,
The system is eating up all rams and getting unusable after android 5 updates. For other 2GB ram phones across the same period are able to at least keep 2 apps opened. Every single app need to be reloaded after switching between apps. They didn't even plan to release android 6 which they promised 2 years of software support until fury in the Taiwan forum and someone is going to sue the company. And you can guess the result, the android 6 software is also a piece of **** with countless bugs.
My iPhone 7 plus has been using for 4 years and still doing very well (smooth) in today's applications. If divides the price by the number of years it's performing, it is much cheaper than Padfone S which becomes unusable after 3 months of purchase.
F**k ASUS.

That's too bad. My girlfriend is still using my Padfone X (At&t) from 2014 on 4.4 Kitkat and it's not the greatest but it's still good for media. I also have a Google Nexus 2013 (by Asus) but the screen broke and I can't find one so it's retired now. Never had a problem with any of them or my Zenfone 2.
Most people rooted and changed the rom on the Padfone S and it performed very well I hear. If you love your iPhone so much then stick with it. Personally I could never use such a restrictive OS.

I notice my GPS google crash, cant use now..try to reinstall and nothing happend

Very disappointed as the phone is almost two years old but no major update was done. Google may release Android 8.0 by May.

5.1.1 to 6.0 wasn't a major update? I am not thrilled with the delay, but let's not forget how quickly the MXPE received Marshmallow. The Z line is their primary focus now, that's how it goes!

Fixed that for you.
So typical for moto. They're going to wait for us to do all the hardwork for them, and then roll out an update right around the time that its no longer needed by us.
As long as lineage keeps updating the phone I will use it until the phone dies but this will definitely be my last Moto phone.
Everyone is all pissed but Google just ended support at 2 years sharp on the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. The manufacturers are still in a 2 year support paradigm related to contracts.
This is largely why I went to AICP with 7.1.1 and on-time monthly Android security updates. Plus, a lot more functionality and customization. The same was true with LiquidSmooth when Samsung stopped supporting the Galaxy S3 before. Every device ceases to be supported at some point. That's why we hang out here and work together to extend the life of our favorite hardware. I, too, and disappointed that Lenovo dropped meaningful support for the Pure 2015 last year, but AICP has gotten me over the sting.
I am betting Google's announcement about killing the Google now launcher factors into this. OEMs now have to build their own launcher
We could get 7.1.2 directly also... We never know what's gonna happen anyways but now I'm pissed off by this and I'm surely going to buy nokia phone next time... This is such a disgrace...
I would like to use linageos but rom without fully working moto display is not for me, I bought this phone for this function and stereo speakers. Im ok with android 6, I dont feel loosing some functionality.

IMO the guy who has regularly said he doesn't think we'll ever get Nougat will be vindicated. The MXPE has been a commercial failure and retailers regularly have it on fire sale for $250 or less - they can't get rid of them. There's almost no chance Lenovo will go out of their way to continue spending man hours on the update this spring if they're "having problems" (more likely, they never started working on an update to begin with).
Purchasing this phone is certainly one of my bigger electronics regrets. If I could go back in time, I'd pony up the extra $100 for a 6P, no question. Now the price differential between a used MXPE and 6P is even bigger than that, which says a lot.
Commercial failure perhaps but that is Lenovo's fault. They incorrectly thought that the Moto name meant they had no need to advertise.
Won't wait. Will buy Mate 9

It's always so interesting to see different peoples opinions.
I'm bought the 6P when it came out. It was a great phone, notice I said was. If you hit the XDA forums you will see loads of; bootloop of death, battery issues. It seems the battery is wearing prematurely and causing non repairable failures. This is the majority opinion of the reason for the failure, but again is only opinion. I kept my phone pristine and a few weeks ago got the dreaded BLOD. Huawei did send me a refurbished phone back; it was slightly dinged, but I sent them a 32gb and they sent me a 128gb back. They didn't offer a loaner, so I picked up a MXPE and have to say I like it so much when I got my 6P back and I've not bothered to do much with it.

Well, this may be a case of "the grass is always greener" for me. I wasn't aware of widespread 6P issues, but a bit of research indicates they've sprung up over the past few months.
On paper, the 6P is a slightly faster version of the MXPE (plus fingerprint sensor) that still gets regular updates, whereas the MXPE was more or less abandoned in the software department within 6 months of release. The microSD slot was a big factor that swayed me at the time of purchase, but if I'd known how quickly support would be abandoned vs. 2+ years of continuous updates (even monthly security patches) on the 6P, it wouldn't have been enough.
Of course, if you end up with a bricked paperweight 6P, superior software support isn't going to do you much good. Sorry to hear about your experience.
I will add this: the icing on the cake with Lenovo's non-support is that they void your warranty for unlocking the bootloader and trying to stay up-to-date using custom ROMs. Given that I'm already on my second (RMA) MXPE, I don't trust the hardware enough to lose the warranty, so I'm stuck on Marshmallow forever most likely.

Thanks for the well stated response.
I've not been a fan of Lenovo since the Superfish malware and the rest of the crap they install became public knowledge. But I kind of hoped they would of left Motorola somewhat autonomous but I see they did not. The lack of promised updates is inexcusable, it's a lie plain and simple. The whole bootloader thing, while I personally think is wrong, its my damn phone let me do what I want, at least they tell you up front and don't make you guess.
While not nearly as egregious the fact Google discontinued the whole Nexus line and has Pixel exclusive is somewhat annoying. I can almost understand it from a business standpoint, but you could of at least threw the Nexus crowd a crumb and kept say the unlimited photo thing as a Pixel exclusive and give us the Pixel experience. Honestly, the last rom I was running was 100% N and Pixel modded and I'm OK with MM and the Moto voice is pretty good. I did read rumor of N in May for the MXPE, so I hope thats true.
Some guy is on his 5th rma for his 6P! I'm not sure if he is throwing them out the window, but that's pretty sad.
I suppose bottom line is you can't go wrong with either, they both have pros and cons.
I bought this phone 15 months ago for 4 main reasons :
Larger secreen than my previous phone
stereo front-facing speakers
design
low price
During that time it hasn't given me any problems and has done everything I wanted from it.
So, OK, it hasn't got the very latest Android "upgrade", but if I was really that bothered I'd unlock the bootloader and install a custom ROM. (I'm out of warranty anyway). But why? The phone works perfectly fine.
To put this into context, I bought a £35,000 car last September. The 2017 models will now get Apple Carplay & Android Auto - but this will not be retro rolled out to my car.
And you guys are pissed off at no updates for a $300 smartphone?

Anyone getting the S10 or S10+?

Anyone considering the S10 or S10+? Why or why not? They're offering a $550 trade in with Pixel 3 XL, so just more curious what people are doing and why.
I'm considering it. Not sure if I can actually pull the trigger on a Samsung device.
Try it out in the store first, I had the s4 after my Galaxy Nexus, that was unlocked and had stock Android flashed, then the s5 which was rooted, but only years after I got rid of it, they got the bootloader unlocked.
The s5 was fast, but it doesn't hold a candle to stock Android.
If you won't miss the stock sounds, UI, apps, root, etc. Then go for it, I consider most of that stuff bloat and a lot of the exclusive features would go unused by me.
My own opinion, but everyone has their own taste.

After the S9+, I'm done with Samsung. I always end up going back to Google devices. I had an S8+, Pixel 2 XL, S9+, and now Pixel 3 XL. Samsung just keeps making it harder and harder to modify MY PHONE, and I think that I should have the right to root, etc., when I pay for the phone outright. I enjoyed my Exynos S9+, dont get me wrong, but the Pixel is so much easier. Here in the US, you need to buy an international Samsung if you want to do anything with as far as Roms go, but then you loose functionality because the phone is not built for use in USA. There are ways to make things work, but it is tedious, and time consuming, then Samsung changes crap each time they update. Also, its to the point now that the Snapdragon processors are out performing the Exynos processors.

Been with Sammy for so many year. Please no more. Happy with them, even happier with Google.
I still look forward every time to pick up my phone, turn it on and use it,. Loving it. I dont even have a need for Pix 4. I can easily go stay with it for another year. Knowing me id get P4 tho.
But yeah no more Samsung for me. My brother is getting one tho

do i like locked bootloaders? lmao
I have been very disappointed with my xl 3. I am getting either the s10 or LG v8
What is an S10? Until Google locks the bootloader, I wouldn't be able to tell you what other phones are out there.
I am on Pixel 3 and its been only like 2weeks now. Before this was using a S9+. Best in Pixel 3- rooting and using custom roms with hell lot of features and the bestest camera in the smartphone market now. Cons speaker and display.
Pros of S9+, the best display on a smartphone and speakers tuned by Harmon. Speakers are like the best I have heard ln a smartphone. But worst ever front camera for a flagship, it literally paints everybody in the scene.?
I'm not into locked bootloaders and phones that take 6+ months to update software. My TMo Note 8 is still waiting for official Pie o arrive. I don't care how amazing the hardware is if the software is 1/2 a year or more behind all the time.
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL
It’s very tempting but the updates are really slow with samsung even if it’s the international version.
I am proud of Pixel 3 getting updates first and all. Unfortunately Pie has been buggy since release and I feel like I have been beta testing the phone for them. I see Samsung's slower release as a more mature release after what Google has fixed.

Not sure which bugs you refer to, but my phone has run in top notch condition since day one. Good luck with your Samsung. All you have to do is look at the Note 9 forums to find million of complaints about the software. The only mature thing about their software is the release date because as per the many forums on XDA there is a ton of stuff wrong with it.

I have posted my issues on this forum before. Such problems include:
1) lag even after the most recent update
2) I restart my phone daily and on several occasions, the phone restarts to a dead black screen instead of Android
3) the clock on the status bar is stuck, restarting the phone fixes this
4) "always on display" gets stuck
5) LTE connection is bad. Instead of dropping down to 3g, it stays on "No Data" state.
I've got both the pixel and note 9, I've also had the s8 and s9+ wasn't impressed with them but I am with the note. The screen is amazing, no notch and the pen is a huge plus. I'm leaning on keeping my note for now and getting rid of the pixel. I've got the international one so bootloader is unlocked barely any bloat. Then maybe getting the S10+

Other than a rare lag when first opening the camera, I can honestly say I haven't had any of these issues on my phone. I guess which apps you use has a lot to do with it also, but it sounds to me like you got a bad Apple. Maybe the Note 9 is better for your use, but my Note 8 experience is crap (slow and painfully laggy). Good luck.

I sold my P2XL & bought an S9+. They are good phones but I couldn't wait for the P3XL to come out. I'm happy with my Pixel. Everything I did with the S9+ was tweaking it to be more like a Pixel, both with looks and adding Google apps to use instead of the Samsung apps. I had duplicates of a bunch of apps. I tried to like Bixby but that was hopeless. I use the camera quite a bit, nothing like the Pixel's that I've ever used.

That wasn't very clear. I had a P2XL, sold it and bought an S9+. I used that until the P3XL came out. I sold the Samsung and bought the new Pixel. I take good care of my phone, keep the packaging & accessories in the box. I got a pretty good price for the last few phones I sold on Swappa. It makes it easier than paying big money for a phone every year. I probably got 70% of the cost after 9 or 10 months of use.

Google and Pixel

Hi guys just my 2 cent on an article I've read this morning. Google says pixels smartphones don't sell that much. Well they lost another long time consumer here. I recently switched to an S10+ because the problems the pixel 3xl has. I still own a nexus 4/5/6p and a Pixel 2xl and 3xl, nearly 6 years of Google smartphone/software and they always didn't really care about our community, sending bug reports and problems that had no response of course. The last thing that made me switch is the careless they are giving to us on the microphones issues with the pixel 3.
Google should think about that, camera isn't the only important thing in a smartphone, assistance is aswell and Google gives no support at all. I'm not going back to Pixel smartphones anymore, it's been a long and fun run but I'm really tired of having top paid smartphones for 4gb of ram and a phone that you can't phone with. It's a shame. Wake up Google! It's your fault!
What you think about the last year's smartphone from Google?

Interesting. I am on the opposite side of the fence. After having had practically every generation of Samsung Note that ever came out, I feel the complete opposite, and I'm not going back. I feel like Samsung doesn't care about is customers. While Samsung's phones have a more "finished look", it is my experience that their issues take way longer to resolve than on a Pixel which gets monthly updates on the 1st Monday of every month. My Pixel 3Xl phone has been the best phone I've ever had. It runs smooth as butter and I've never had any of the issues some claim to have had with the rare exception of an occasional call where the caller cannot hear me, but I hear them. My speakers sound great, my Bluetooth works wonderfully with all devices and the phone is very responsive. I'm rooted and enjoying the benefits of systemwide add blocker, Titanium backup, viper and 3minit battery mod (all of which are practically impossible in today's Samsung devices). Good luck on your locked down device. Samsung makes great screens but software wise, I find my phones became useless after 6 months due to mysteriously showing down. My Pixel is the first phone I've owned that still works as smooth as day one (even with it's surprising 4 GB of RAM). My Note 8 sits on a drawer collecting dust because it became unbearably slow after the last update, and the battery lasted less than my Pixel's. Don't get me wrong, I love Sammy devices. Just can't deal with the slow updates and the 7-8 month delay in bringing the new OS features to their devices.

At least on Samsung phone you don't get buggy software at launch. Pixel became the testing device for new Google operating system and I can't live with this anymore. If you just recently switched to Pixel line bro wait a bit and you'll get burned by Google. The history of problems is long on nexus/Pixel devices. Don't get me wrong, still using pixel 3xl sometimes mostly to take pics, I just dismissed it as phone for work. It's totally unreliable... A phone that can't phone lol

I've been on Pixel since launch of OG Pixel - never been "burnt" by them
volunteered for Beta Pie - that's the nearest to buggy I've had
Either you've had a bad model or you're doing something wrong imo

I've never had any big problems with either Pixel I've owned (2xl & 3xl). The phone has never been an issue. The main one for me was bluetooth. It cutout on my 2, and on my 3, while that stopped, I had to adjust the codec manually to show the track info in my SUV. However, that is not a big problem for me. It would be for people who don't know how to do such a thing though.
Anyway, I love the pixel line. I would *possibly* jump on an essential phone 2, or maybe something like one plus if they started doing at release updates. Outside of that, nope. Samsung can suck it as far as I'm concerned. I've had four of their phones. The last was an S7 edge. I loved it at first, but, like MANY other people on these boards and that I know personally (not to mention several articles about this), the phone mysteriously slowed down around the next phone launch. Mine was so bad I thought the phone had crapped out. So, I got a warranty replacement. After an update it was the same. Nearly unusable. And you talk about updates, my S7 got the next OS about 7 months after release. There were problems that took 3+ months for Sammy to fix. Sooo, I wouldn't say they're better at that by any means. I guess maybe they could have gotten better?
The pixel 3xl has a Samsung display, and it looks amazing. The camera was the best until the S10 and the P30 (think the last one is right). I'm sure the 4's will destroy that again. I get monthly updates, the phone looks and feels great, and it runs perfectly. Zero lag. Unlike every Samsung I've ever owned. Also, I was on the P beta last year from DP2 on, no problems. This year I'm on the Q beta from DP1, no problems. I think Google does a pretty good job for hardware being one of their less important to them things.
But, to each their own.

Amen bro. I couldn't have said it better. I feel the exact same way. Samsung's software is crap and like you say... It"mysteriously slows down the phone" by the time a new one is coming out. At least with the Pixel, this isn't the case so far.

Pixel 3 still best image quality mate
I haven't gone back to Samsung since experiencing the s6 and s7 edge. Horrible battery life and both launched buggy as hell. I'm sure it's better now, but, having a locked boot loader would be no fun for me.

I forgot about battery life. My S7 edge battery was horrible at first. I would take it off the charger at 6:30-ish, and by 5 or so it was pretty much dead. Seriously, not even 12 hours. I spent some time looking at and tweaking settings, and others did too so we shared what worked. After making a lot of changes I was able to get to about 9 or 10 in the evening before it died. It's pretty bad when a phone gets less than a day of battery life right out of the box, but under 12 or so hours is just sad.
My $0.02 is that most of these guys that jump ship to Samsung or LG or whatever will be wishing they hadn't. Probably come back to a Pixel or One+ or something too even.
I guess i can agree with everyone's a opinion good and bad but it's simple for me why i stay with Google phones just mainly because i want the latest and greatest from Android right from the jump! Lol It's our iPhones but not actually iPhones lol
To not mention that
My nexus 6p the four big cores are turned off to let the system boot. It's the famous bootloop of dead.
My pixel 2xl doesn't charge sometimes, you have to reboot it to let it charge.
The pixel 3xl screen is not half as beautiful as my S10+ screen. The battery sucks on the pixel 3xl too. This phone has serious problems with call that for a piace of technology lime this is really a shame.
To those Fanboy please go to another thread. If you can't understand what I'm saying. Google is just selling unreliable devices (I'd like to remember you when nexus 6p was turning off in cold weather without any warning).
I'm still rocking my pixel 3xl anyway in free time as I had time to compare pics of both phones and damn that pixel is incredible on camera side. Please guys be constructive
There is a 68-70 page thread w/ 600~ posts on the issue tracker #124412355 that applies to the 3 and 3 XL. Multiple people are having issues with phone call quality and Google hasn't responded or given any indication they're trying to come up with a solution. Some have resolved it with guitartuna after giving it microphone permissions and now people can hear them on phone calls w/o cutting out. Others turn off advanced calling features in areas with poor signal and that does the trick for them. The 3 and 3XL both are a train wreck for the price Google is asking. But despite the issues and the questionable design it's one of the best stocking offerings at this time.

Who are you to send people to another thread? "Unreliable devices"??? You've got to be kidding. You are a Samsung fan boy who selectively forgets things. Let's take a little trip down memory lane. Perhaps you need to be reminded of the exploding Note7 fiasco????? Talk about unreliable and dangerous! A phone that explodes in your pocket. My Note 4 became useless after it's last update. It would not even boot unless you would freeze it in the freezer. There are tons of pages explaining that problem also on XDA. Both my S7 edge and my Note 8 are also practicality unusable and collecting dust due to how slow they mysteriously got after updates. My Note 8 would freeze every time I took a picture also and if its battery reached zero it would brick the phone. Look at forums exchanging this problem. My S9+ had endless display issues and leaked light through it's side. Samsung's latest scandal is the new Fold $2000 phone cracking screen and stopping working after only a few days. Please let's be real! Samsung has had more crappy phones that malfunctioned than any other company. Their software sucks too and it's filled with bloatware. Phones are pieces of technology that regardless who makes them can work incorrectly. You are blinded by your preference to Samsung phones and are extremely biased towards them in your comments. Good luck with your bootloader- locked down and unrootable Samsung phone which will take 7-8 months to be updated to new OS releases. It won't save you from an unreliable phone and it's certainly far from perfection.

Paid less for the S10+ than for my 3xl if you want to know, nearly 200€.
For the other Samsung phones I don't know and I don't care anyway, I had a Google device during that time :good:
After the Pixel 3xl experience, I'm tired of stock Android and Google in general. I'm not saying That Google is bad Samsung is good. I'm just saying that the S10+ is better than 3xl in anyway except the camera maybe... You're right maybe I'll choose 1+ after that

to be fair
pixel phones hardly give us latest and greatest, they are roughly released 5 months after the competition, and our 3 is abysmal with 4GB ram when others are offering 6GB for a base and 12GB for a pro variant just to name one drawback

12gb are completely useless and waste of money on that. 6gb max are enough. Proper memory management and you're good to go.
4gb are even enough , but google failed the memory management on it slightly (look at essential and HTC u11, 4gb RAM but management is like a beast).

I disagree
I have a op6t and I can leave a tons of apps open without redraws
Ultimately that's what we want.
And more ram = More opened apps in memory
I have the 8gb variant and constantly find myself using 6-7GB ram

A bit dramatic with this response here. I have had the Nexus and Pixel series and the biggest misconception is that of unreliability on Google phones. Google phones are just as equally unreliable and reliable as others phones. I have the Pixel 3xl and with due respect that is a great piece work. It has it's quirks, yes I agree, like the big notch and the chin which could be smaller but I can assure you this is a premium device. No wonder it scores on top on many aspects. Let's speak objectively.....put emotions aside!

Should I buy this phone?

Hi Everyone
I'm looking to upgrade from a Oneplus 3. Previously it was a great price for good specs.
I noticed the magic 3 whilst looking at YouTube and the specs look amazing.
1 - Interested to know of those who have had it for a while would you recommend getting it?
2 - what are the main annoying factors about the phone?
3 - Are there any others in the price range I should consider? I mostly play pubg, do retoo gaming and watch films with my existing phone
Many thanks in advance
Jamie
1 - Difficult to answer....if you're not into rooting and customizing, but happy with a basic Android experience and raw power, you should buy it......otherwise,if you want 100% flagship bells and whistless for half the price, you'll have to search futher,as this phone does not 'has it all' for just €479.
2 - For me,the most annoying thing is that there's much more to squeeze out of the camera,if Nubia's app would match the capabilities......but hopefully, there will be a working Gcam release in the near future.
3 - Xiaomi Mi 9....but I fell for the RM3.....
Many thanks for the reply, I don't mind rooting if necessary.
Also happy with a basic android experience as my oneplus was pretty much that when it first came out.
Thanks for the suggestion I will look into that also ??

I can tell the battery backup is awesome. Only problem I have is the gaming buttons are too annoying when playing a video.
I have it unrooted without gapps and IMO its better then some flagships. Reason is the big screen and the big battery and the stereo sound.
Also I prefer metal over Glas backside. And NO Notch.
The camera is better than that on my Xiaomi mi mix 3.
this phone is amazing, the only bad thing i see it had is not hdmi usb-c to support
I would wait for two main reasons:
1) Asus is going to announce their new ROG phone at the end of this month. While it will probably be a good deal more expensive, It might have some cool features
2) Nubia just announced they are going to release an 855 Plus version of this phone.

Thing is,no matter how long you wait ,there will always be something better on the horizon after your purchase.......no matter which device you've bought...
Hi,
Considering the price and the specs, I think the Red Magic 3 is about the best phone you can have nowadays.
If you buy it, you should consider two things :
- Chinese UI has a lot of features but is ugly and themes are mostly paid ones ;
- Europe/US/Asia ROM has ZERO features.
Once I recovered from the disappointment, the second solution was clearly what I was looking for.
So here is my advice :
- take the Europe/US/Asia version and flash it to your device (if it doesn't ship with that as stock)
- unlock the bootloader
-root your phone.
All this is done in like 4/5 minutes...
Once done, install all apps to add the required features.
You will have a phone that has ONLY THE FEATURES YOU WANT.
No bloat, no unnecessary stuff...
A dream come true
Of course, it comes with a price : once rooted, you will get OTA notifications but won't be able to install them...
Regards.

True
If you live in North America, I'd steer clear of this company.
I ordered one of their phones last week. I still have yet to receive my shipping notice. I ordered it with priority shipping, and according to their website, it should have shipped within 24 hours of payment.
4 days after it failed to ship, I contacted support, and was told "Be patient". Ever since then, they've stopped responding to emails. They won't give me any sort of clue as to when my order will ship. Apparently this is a frequent occurrence with Red Magic.
They're one of those companies that are only interested in getting devices out to reviewers, everyone else is to fend for themselves.
The support page on their website doesn't work. Apparently they didn't pay for it. Nubia cannot give any answers either, they just argue back in forth in the support email with several of the employees arguing about who's job it is to deal with.
If you ever receive a phone from them, and have an issue, good luck with that. Their current company (if you can call it that) shows that can't deal with supporting their devices. They can't even deal with fulfilling orders.
Stay far far away from this company, for you own good.
Is there likely to significant difference between the 8gb and 12gb ram? I think I'm going to get it but wonder if it's worth the extra money. Also just seen they mentioned the magic 4 by the end of the year. So maybe prices will come down
Well I'm in N.A. and I bought it from the site day it released. Great phone, few bugs at the moment and its a gaming phone at heart with stock Android, easily customizable. Honestly any game task you throw at it handles like a boss. It's an emulation dream with built in buttons. My controller and case should arrive the 22nd and I'm sure it will be great. I can tell you any Bluetooth controller works well on it too. The choice to buy is up to you, basically do you want a gaming phone or something else.
I have had this for two days in the USA and I love it. Usually I have buyer's remorse and would be looking for a new phone by now so I can say it really is great. Battery life is better than my S9 with a Mophie pack so far. Even with playing with it constantly I can't kill it in one day and usually my S9 needs to be plugged in by late afternoon. I have not rooted it yet, and may not. I love a clean version of Android. Not sure why people think that is bad. All the random customization sometimes comes with a speed cost. This phone is just plain fast. Usually I root to get rid of crap so you can see where I stand. If you hate big heavy phones, don't buy it. That is the negative. I had a ZTE Axon 7 and updates were slow so that's another negative. Other than that, super fast, great screen, great battery, strong data signal...it's a buy. Reminds me of the original OnePlus, or the Axon. Phones that were surprising values, but were big and heavy.

I'm coming from the OnePlus 3(T) as well, looking for a new device. What I didn't like at the Oneplus were the original ROM (luckily Lineage helped a lot) and the sound and position of the speaker. I loved the front facing stereo speakers of my HTC One (m7) years ago.
So I'm thinking of purchasing the RM3, but at the moment there are no alternative ROMS. Another device I'm looking at is the Black Shark 2, but situation with ROMs and support seems to be even worse.
For the RM3, I have concerns, if a fan inside a mobile will really last for some years, or break down at some time...
I also had the 3T and 1 and the 6T obviously this is just a better phone due to the increases in tech. No way to tell on the fan, I will say...and not sure how ZTE vs it's company Nubia will work, but my Axon 7 had a couple of screen issues due to my dropping it and the speaker stopped working, not sure if it was due to that and ZTE fixed it every time free of charge within the first year. I was very happy with their service on that phone. ROM support will be lacking but it's a clean version of Android so I prefer that

To me...a clean, lean ROM, which the US version is, rooted with Magisk and other mods I choose myself is always the best option. Some custom ROMs can get pretty bloated themselves

It depends on what you are looking for an what you want to do?
If you are a person who is happy with stock ROMs an just leaves cellphones in the state they are in out of the box then yes buy it.
However if you are a person who likes tinkering modifications an custom ROMs the please do not buy this cellphone.
I tried to install TWRP over 2 months ago an got stuck in a fastboot bootloop. Every xda suggestion to fix this plus paying a cellphone repair center an trying heaps of suggestions an it's still non functional.
It has horrible software an is rediculously sensitive to any and all attempts to FLASH ANYTHING.
If red magic 3s break you might never be able to fix them at a software level.
Mine lives in a bag by my bed to remind me not to bite off more than I can chew.
I have a xiaomi Mi9 now an have no real issues with it.
Good luck with your decision
So the options are to buy on Ali are with a stock Global Rom or a Chinese ROM. I see some other posts about people flashing to the Chinese one. Is that the best option to choose? I take it you can still select the language as English and support here etc? Thanks for everyone's responded it's been really helpful. I was thinking of holding out for the 855plus but not sure if I can afford which will be most likely an additional cost for it.
I also have the same question but mine is a bit different. Im convinced i am going to buy it but...
Should i buy it now or wait for the 855+ version? Idc if its gonna be a bit more expensive

I would of thought it would be more expensive as they still have the original to sell. Probably will stick another £100 on it or so I reckon ?

Should I upgrade to the 8t?

I've been itching to upgrade from my 7 pro. Is the 8t worth the upgrade? I'm on T-mobile, so my jump is available for an upgrade. I'm just not sure if it's worth using. That's where I'm gonna rely on you guys for advice. I'd either upgrade to the 8t or the Galaxy s20.
What is your opinion?

Neither...After OP7Pro, oneplus has been on a downhill route by bedding with several big companies like facebook to preinstall their services. Gone are the rebellious days when OnePlus didn't care jack shi* of what the world thought of them. Their sole purpose, then, was to kill the best available Android device at an affordable price. Today, they keep killing their own devices every six months (or should I say 3 months since the launch of Nord) and have courted and even gone to bed with snooping social media services just so that they can gather another revenue stream. OOS11 is probably the last nail in the coffin that goes against everything the company once stood for. Although I spoke of OnePlus here, don't worry, Samsung isn't any different. They also install a whole load of unwanted bloatware in their software that are quite hard to get rid of even with root.
I don't see how the OP7Pro is slow even though it's an ancestor in tech terms (18 moonths+ years old)! The processing power, today, hasn't jumped drastically neither has RAM capacity. OP7 storage is on UFS 3+ and coupled with a 90hz screen, how is this phone slow compared to today's flagships? If you are looking for antutu/ geekbench scorecards, then you will have to change phones every month because there's practically a flagship every month that sets a new benchmark in these scorecards. Besides, would you be running these benchmarking apps daily or looking at your social media apps, browsing the web, youtubing, clicking photos etc? I'd put my money on the second half of my question. In that case, doesn't your OP7 do a great job at it? For the OP7 to be outdated, you really need an Android version that would slow it down or for OonePlus to deliberately throttle it down via an update. Or....if you are really hard pressed to upgrade the device, damage it beyond repair Till then, I'd say to keep the device.

Battery life has degraded, and I'm tired of the curved display.

Why are you itching to upgrade? Personally, I find the phone to still be super quick and love the full screen layout with popup camera. Android 11 is expected in December; not that far away. As for above comments on social, too true, though the 8T doesn't have Facebook bloatware, thankfully.

Except that they have partnered with bitmoji instead of facebook...again, just another snooping app...
Wait for the 9 series. The 8 is not worth upgrading from the 7.
No!
In my mind, it is not necessarily. The OP 8 T is not revolutionary! The OP 7 Pro does its work daily. I'm waiting for the 9 series as well. Do keep your OP 7 Pro.

I'd say no, the pop up camera is really nice because you won't have anything on screen and honestly going to hole punch really feels like a downgrade; sure it has a better cpu but the 855 is honestly good enough at this point, I can play gamecube games at 60fps, I'm set for atleast a year or two. With a cheap battery replacement, this phone is golden
I actually did that last week, replaced the battery myself and made the back transparent to see the pop up camera motor.
Went from 3180ma to 3878mA, not full capacity I guess? But it's much better now and this battery does not overheat like the last one did.
Now I just charge to 89% as never let it run below 20% that way this battery should last long.
The phone itself is really snappy and even more since I'm using F2FS , but I'm not gonna lie, I also wanted to upgrade to the 8 because that's the way I am, I like to have the best one out there if possible but that punch hole display stopped me from doing it.
Wait for 9... It will probably have the front camera below the screen and that would be the best, that's what I will do but if I can sell it in the mean time I will also do... Because that's how I am xd

I just ordered a battery myself off aliexpress because that was the only place i could find one. where did you get yours from?
accubattery saying im at 77% capacity and i can really feel it now adays. bought the phone new in june 2019 so i guess it makes sense to be degrading so much.
im also going to go with the clear back once the battery gets here (jerryrig wud uppp)
The 8 pro has tempted me but still not cheap enough for me to bite.
Flashed YAAP 11 rom and im more up to date then almost all phones out right now
7 pro is still a beast and with a new battery and awesome rom support i feel like i could easily hit the 2 year mark with this bad boy!

Just be careful, AliExpress sell some pretty sketchy batteries, even there's a supposed 4600mAh battery which of course is probably not.
I actually got mine from eBay and from a seller in Europe , cuz I tried to avoid China as much as I could in this matter.
The thing is that there's a hell bunch of fake OnePlus charges and batteries in Ali that will probably do worse than your 77% battery you currently have.
If you have the chance to get an official battery change from OnePlus do it.
I didn't do it because there's no way in my country so this was my last option.
Here's a pic of the battery I installed (and the original) , it doesn't even have the logo of OnePlus although I can confirm its works good and warp charges correctly too.

OnePlus 7 Pro is still a good phone nonetheless in 2020 but I'm actually tempted to upgrade due to a couple of things, especially the curved screen. In plain daylight it reflects so much it starts to get annoying, especially on low brightness. I thought it was fine the first few months but have turned around sadly. Battery has also degraded massively, I know it happens to everyone due to use, but a bit different in my case. Below 80% Battery Health (bought my EU 7 Pro on 3rd day after release) Have tried to get battery replaced from OnePlus 2 times, first time (warranty repair) nothing replaced other than the screen, burn-in stated in repair report. (was not an issue stated from me). 2nd try I even stated that I wanted to PAY to replace the battery, no matter the price, support chat said it would be no problem and they would mail me before repair with an invoice, fine for me. Woke up the next day with a mail that my phone already dispatched, front-camera was replaced. Was not even broken on my end before sending it in. Nothing else. Apparently still replaced under warranty. Both replacements were done in only 2 days so nothing negative about that, just OnePlus support not listening to my requests, so disappointed to a degree. Buying a replacement battery and replacing it myself has not really been an option, nothing local or almost any stores in EU with original battery other than sketchy eBay sellers. AliExpress has looked promising (bought phone-related stuff from there before so I trust it) but not given it a try due to the horrendous shipping times.. (Covid) Also let's add the 25% customs fee on every package in my country from outside the EU. Yay. A bit annoying not having the same SOT since day 1 and having to charge at least one time per day. (I use my phone at work alot)
If we dismiss the bad, this thing still holding strong speed-wise, flashed A11 YAAP a couple of days ago and it doesn't disappoint, still as snappy on OOS and AOSP Roms as from release date. Pop-up Camera is a plus over hole punch for me also. If you are not really in an emergency to buy a new phone a better pick would maybe be to wait for OnePlus 9, maybe it brings something more revolutionary as an upgrade than just silly small Snapdragon upgrades and screen compared to the last models. 8t is still tho an upgrade specs-wise, 865, 120hz and 65W. I'm thinking of getting one if I cant get my battery replaced sometime in the near future or it breaks, or maybe some early OnePlus 9 leaks push me to wait. For 600-650€ in the EU it's actually pretty tempting, compared to S20 FE and new Pixel lineup other than IP68, that I don't really care about.
Rumors are swirling the oneplus 9 will drop in MARCH
So I'd hold out a little longer my friends!
I also swapped out the battery with Ali Express. The 4600 is fake as it was the first I tested out. Happy to say I'm back at full capacity and I have 2nd battery waiting to used when I also replace. I'm moving to an 5g city and I got verizon, 65watt charging, 5000mah, and 5nm processor seem tempting if that's what is coming next year. Since xda is having issues with upload I got 101 charge sessions and it says the estimated capicty is 4021mah
Don't upgrade
I personally "downgraded" from the iPhone 11 to the OnePlus 7 pro and it wasn't as big of a jump as I thought it'd be. And when the 8t got announced less than a month after I bought my 7 pro I jumped for joy. Why you ask? It's literally the same phone but with a hole punch and an extra year or so of OTA updates. The 7 pro still holds up to today's standards and if you're worried about update support get a custom ROM. The 7 pro is personally my all time favourite. I put it above the iPhone 12, the Samsung note 20 ultra, the OnePlus 8T and whatever anyone else has. Wait until the 9 or at least when they make a new phone without a display cut out or you're going to buy a new phone just for it to look outdated really soon. The 7 pro is just as fast as the new ones, just wait until something game changing comes out where you don't need to ask whether to buy it, cuz you know.

I've been considering trying a custom rom. I'm currently running OOS beta 18, rooted with XXX. But there are so many custom roms, I don't even know where to start. I'd be afraid of losing features. And reinstalling and logging back into all my apps is such a pain in the neck.

I used Kang OS which is amazing but as of right now the auto brightness is a bit funky, but I usually go with LineageOS 18. And the best thing about our phone is we can use a custom ROM for a bit until the stable version comes out from OnePlus OTA. And there's not a lot of OnePlus exclusive features that I use so it's perfect for me
