Has anyone else had the issue of Maps crashing when you press the start navigation button? This is the first device I've ever had this issue on, and have tried clearing app data / disable re-enabling / reboot.
Mine has been working fine sofar.
I used it several times yesterday with no issues.

Did you migrate your apps from another phone? If so, you boo-booed. Never do that...always install apps from scratch.
Install GPS Status from the store and make sure your GPS is working properly.
No crashing, but I noticed that notifications came set to Japanese.

GPS works fine. Waze navigation works fine. And I did migrate apps from my previous device, but it was from my Google account, which reinstalls all apps from the play store.
Also, Maps is a system app, so it was not part of that restore process, it came pre-installed. I have also cleared all Maps app data to no effect.

Hi there,
I installed stock ICS (rooted) on my TF101. Now whenever I open Maps, it will close after a few moments. No FC, no message, just disappears as if I had clicked on the "Home" button - but when I restart Maps, the previous state is gone.
Anyone have any ideas why this happens and more importantly how to fix it?
TIA
SoWhy
Try clearing data for Map app
Sorry, I forgot to specify that I tried that already - I usually do when I have problems
I am using the brut version.. and in there is a flashable zip that has a script in it that goes through and clears out junk..
Same thing for me on ICS upgrade.had maps FC.. used this..right as rain now..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23028122
Start on last post and workback for a link..
sent from yet another MikG HTC Evo
I changed the ROM to Revolver 4.0 Beta and it seems to work now. Still, very strange...
I was experiencing this problem too. A similar thing was happening with Gmail. Completely stock, unrooted ICS TF101.
I found a bandaid for both but I am not sure which of the steps I took are actually helpful. Anyway:
1. Cleared data and cache in both apps.
2a. For Gmail, I turned off pre-fetch attachments while on WiFi AND the labs setting that enables message indexing.
2b. For Maps, I turned on the labs setting to pre-cache areas and then cached the entirety of Los Angeles (which is where I live).
3. Reboot.
The apps still crash a few seconds after opening occasionally but a reboot gets things back to normal for a day or so. Hopefully the coming ICS patch fixes these issues because it was making both Gmail and Maps basically unusable.
On my TF, I fixed the maps closing thing by enabling "Force hardware acceleration" in the developer settings (System settings, not map settings).
But knowing how ICS behaves, it may only work for me. I am starting to suspect that every person here at the forums may have a different ICS version that fails at different points, just to have us entertained until asus finishes the real ICS update. It may even be a sociological experiment, aiming to understand how new superstitions are made.
I too had this problem with the maps FC'ing. For me, it looked like it had more to do with GPS status. It seemed like if maps couldn't get an immediate lock on the location, it would FC. I fixed this problem by installing a GPS keep-alive app. Note that if you keep the keep-alive app on all the time, it will really do a number on your battery. Use it only when you need it.
Hi all.
Out of the blue I got this error message every minute.
I use Unofficial Beanstalk ROM 5.0.2.
Stock kernel.
I cleared cache, and Dalvik. I also cleared cache of Google Play Services and Google Services Framework.
But this error keeps coming back.
I haven't changed anything in the phone nor have I messed with any system settings.
I can't find any decent solution to the problem.
The apk shows version 7.5.71 (1955121-438)
Appreciate your help.

AFAIK, there is no "decent" solution at this time.
Please change your Location setting to Device Only. It will stop the FCs for the time being.

No one knows why it happens or how to solve this? wierd.
How is this related to device location settings?
Out of nowhere I get "Google Play Services" has stopped working messages like every 20sek. Working with the phone is impossible and my Moto 360 doesn't work anymore either Using Stockrom CM12S with franco kernel, any ideas or solution?
Same problem here. This is so annoying!
Will try "device only" now. AFAIK this uses only GPS to get your current location - so this should dramaticly increase battery drain, right?
This trick didn't help
Same case. I am also getting these errors. there are solutions people have posted to disable GPS. But the phone is useless when it is without GPS.
Waiting for a fix ASAP.
For me it actually did! In another thread another solution came up: try enabling "keep awake", "wake up" and "autostart" in Privacy Guard for the Google Play Services. This also worked for me (although my Privacy Guard was not enabled for the Google Play Services the settings still did matter! So make sure to really enable them in the submenu!).
The random crashing seems to occur when:
location "high accuracy" PLUS Google Play Services are limited in Privacy Guard (keep awake, wake up, autostart)
Disabling one of the two should fix the problem.
BTW disabling GPS didn't solve the problem for me. "device only" means you only use GPS and not network location. The network location thing is what causes the crashing in combination with the Privacy Guard. So (at least for me) no need to disable GPS.
Looks good. Let me see if there is any issues now. I remember we all changed the "keep awake", "wake up" and "autostart" in Privacy Guard for the Google Play Services in an older version of Google Play Services.
Hope this is all fixed now and should not drain the battery (as it did in previous version).
How I solved the Play Services stopped FCs
Hardly this last version of Google Play Services will work properly, either clearing the data, blocking services on Privacy Guard, etc. Tested many things and the problem comes from the last update of Play Services, which includes in its changelog suspiciously some "Location Api improvements".
In my experience these last days the problem it seems to come when the services requests for location. If you use Apps asking frequently for locations you'll have the error very often, making usefulness your phone, as least mine. Using 3 Apps needing GPS location at same time is frustrating..
How I solved for now:
Go to Play Store, find Google Play Services in your Apps
Click on Uninstall (only will uninstall the last update of Google Play Services).
From that moment, some advice about certain Google Apps (Hangouts, Google Maps, etc.) may appear if you have these Apps installed. Ignore them, otherwise you'll need to update again if you want to use them, but...
But I can't find google play services in play store.
GPS vs Networ in Location fixed

Same as TerrorApple. Disable Location services, but as this is needed often enable Location services only with GPS. This worked for my device
Hi,
I'm currently in Thailand for holidays and had to realize that without an internet connection, Google maps don't work properly.
When I start the app I got the position immediately but it doesn't update. So the blue dot stays at the same spot until it finally turns grey.
I also had the same problem with other map apps.
Weirdly, navigation DOES work!
So, whenever I go into navigation mode I'm navigated without a hitch...
Anyone else faced the problem and knows how to resolve it?
I tried all the obvious... Checked permissions, uninstalled maps and Google play services after deleting date, logged out of my Google account, cleared cache in recovery...
Oh and by the way... Location history doesn't work. But I guess that's because it's a China rom?!
Thanks!

I dont really know what you mean with "Google Maps doesnt work properly", I only know, that you can download offline maps when you have wlan, so maybe that's a possibility?

No of course I got maps downloaded.
As described ( ) there's a problem with the GPS.
I only get a GPS fix immediately when I open Google maps (after force close). Then GPS connection is lost immediately (blue dot doesn't move and becomes grey).
Zero idea why... As navigation with Google maps works flawlessly - also in offline mode.

Oh ok, now I know what you mean
Never faced this issue. For me Maps (also in non navigation mode) works fine. Maybe something with the aggressive power saving mode from emui?

That's what I was thinking...
Have you ever tried using maps in flight mode (GPS on of course)?
Because back home (with 3g/mobile internet) maps worked fine I think.
EDIT: one more interesting thing... I realized GPS works for a short time (like 10 minutes) after I was connected to a WiFi. Then it stops working.
I have been having GPS issues while using Google Maps or Waze. It would work well after a phone restart but sometimes it hang at the last location where I was at. I tried force closing both apps and turning off and on the GPS but the only solution was to do a phone restart.
Anyone having the same issues?
Yes, I have the same issue. I'm getting crazy. I was thinking to do a factory reset, but it is super annoying. Did you solve the issue in the meantime?
Have you guys try going into settings and clear Google Maps data?

Actually not yet. I'll try and come back with results. Thank you for the tip. But I think not only Google map is affected. Strava also gives me crazy things. I fear that this could be some lower level problem.
I also tried to reboot and switch GPS on/off with no positive effects.
I found this interesting post on reddit.

Seems that a factory reset without app restore from cloud does the trick. Veeeery freaking annoying, dear Oneplus.
Hello, I spoofed my location with FakeLocation app prior my trip to somewhere. So I'm not sure if my problem related with spoofing or not, because I actually visited that place for couple days.
Google Maps shows the location I spoofed first then after couple seconds shows my real location. İf I close/open app it happens again. Yandex Map stucks on wrong location permanetly. I searched on the forum and Google before posting this thread and tried all of the solutions recommended. I'm trying to fix this over 2 weeks now.
I turned off Mocked Location on developer setttings
I deleted app data/cache uninstalled/installed Google Maps
I deleted app data/cache of Google Play
I tried to deleted Google Location History (it was turned of already)
I opened/closed High accuracy/Wifi/Bluetooth Scans
I tried to reset A-GPS data with GPS Status App and GPS Locker
I wiped dalvik/cache on TWRP
I installed lastest Eurom for my phone
+GpsFİx Apps shows
Android GPS Provider - Spoofed Location
Android Network Provider - Spoofed Location
Google Play Services - Real Location
+CIT GPS test (Hardware Test) Passes with Real Location
I feel like I tried evertyhing except factory resetting. Do you have any recommendations?
