Yet Another Call Blocker
Block unwanted calls effortlessly

A simple open source call blocking application that will help you avoid answering unwanted calls using a crowdsourced phone number database.
Features:
Uses offline database.
Blocks calls with negative rating automatically (option).
Local blacklist with wildcard support.
Displays a notification with phone number summary (rating, reviews count, category) during incoming calls (option).
Automatic incremental/delta database updates (option).
You can view online reviews for caller's number (provided by 3rd party service).
"Advanced call blocking mode" for blocking calls on Android 7+ before the phone starts ringing (needs to be manually enabled in app Settings).
Open source.
How to use:
Install and launch the app.
The option to show caller info notifications is enabled by default, so the app will ask for phone-related permissions.
At first start, the app will suggest to download main database which is required for most of the functions. Simply confirm the download.
Check the "Auto-update database" checkbox in the menu (recommended) to automatically receive daily DB updates (these are incremental/delta updates, so they consume very little traffic).
Check the "Block by rating" checkbox to block calls with negative rating automatically.
You can also check the "Use contacts" checkbox if you want your contacts not to be treated as unknown callers.
After these steps everything should just work (but you can always find more options in Settings). Enjoy!
See frequently asked questions to learn more.
The main phone number database is downloaded from a gitlab repository.
Delta updates and detailed review queries are performed using 3rd-party servers.
No user-identifiable information is sent (except for the phone number the detailed reviews are loaded for).
Yet Another Call Blocker is still under development. Any help is welcome.

This thread can be used to get support and provide suggestions.

I currently use the blacklist with one rule * which works perfectly by blocking all calls unless they are in my contacts.
Can whitelisting be currently achieved by adding a contact using * or ? as part of the number(s) range, for example if I want an entire area code and exchange whitelisted will creating a new whitelist contact number like 920-555-* or 920-555-???? work as I hope it might?
Thank You for a wonderful program.

Patterns for whitelisting are currently not supported. Related issue.

Love this simple to use app, many thanks

Would be perfect if it had a dialer built-in too, but nice app anyway!

Hi, First of all I really enjoy the application, and I have some questions.
1. How to have a download DB format (Primary DB download URL)?
2. Is it possible that he will also display the name of the caller?

1. The default URL is this. You can understand the format by inspecting the source code.
2. The main offline DB contains only ratings. There is a "featured DB" with names, but it doesn't seem to be updated and I've never seen it being useful.

Hi, thanks so much for the reply.
I can not open the files, what software should I use? mysql?

That's a custom format. What do you want to do with the data?

I want to see what the DB format looks like, adjust my Db (numbers and names and add a rating) to the format, and use it

The database is "borrowed" from some other app without permission. It is borrowed for a single purpose: to provide an open source call blocker. I don't want people to take the data and exploit it, because it may cause the "donor" app to make things harder for everyone. That's why I only provide an app.
You can try to use the library that I wrote, but please don't abuse the servers and don't publish any tools to work with the data.

Been running this for a couple of months now, never let me down, thanks Again.

Generally, Yet Another Call Blocker can only show the name of the caller if you manually press "online reviews".
Not sure that I understand what you are trying to ask in your second question.

Hi @xynngh
1. Does this app works well for India. I mean does the DB contains updates about India based spammers & scammers?
2. I see the DB was updated 2 months back. Are there not any further updates? Is the DB stale?

Hi!
1. I don't really know, but it probably does. The best way to find out is to try.
2. Only the "main component" of the DB is updated 2 months ago, the app receives daily updates directly. Read the README.

Thank you for the response. I have installed your app and as of now there are very countable number matches from the Database. I'll keep it on for a week and see how it fares. Honestly, it's not so mature in the matches as of now but it will improve as more people use it and flag spammers & scammers.
It's a pro-bono initiative that you run and Kudos for that & I really appreciate your effort. I cannot really compare your app with Truecaller which has a match for almost every number. It's very thorough but again an evil app in itself and not at all private.

By the way I have something in mind - to add a "Report this app" button, which will send me the package name if anyone is unsure if one app is safe or not, or if someone finds a new spyware.
Nice one! Is there a way to find who has installed the Spyware on my phone?
does this has any option to restrict application permissions?

The PRO version has an Install date in details applications list, so if you know where was you phone at that date, there's a very good chance to know who has installed it (the install date/time is in your local time)

No way from the app. I suppose that you need rooted phone and some kind of observer. Probably there's a solution in the custom ROMS for that ?

The MIUI ROM / Superuser app has ability to restrict permissions of reading phone state, SMS messages, CALLS, dial and answer calls. You can choose between Denied / Allow and Always Ask options - very nice
It reports
Catch
XBMC Remote
GO SMS Pro

As suspicious. What's funny? GO SMS Pro for using permissions for sending texts.
It really have fast scanner.
No spyware found. But give ne 2 warrnings...
XBMC remote

Thank you for the feedback
First I want to thank you both for giving it a try, and providing the valuable feedback.
Catch (com.threebanana.notes) - Not sure if you are referring "Catch Notes Notepad", but it is reported as suspicious because of the boot on startup, record audio, internet access, getting a fine GPS location - which are enough to send your location, and phone calls to internet server. However the app seems stable and will be ignored in the next release.
XBMC Remote - (org.xbmc.android.remote) - Seems safe, listed in Warnings because of start on boot, read and receive of SMS messages. Will be marked as safe in the next release.
NoLed (com.led.notify) - reads GMAIL, reads & receives SMS, start on boot - apparently all permissions are needed for normal operations of the app as described. Will be marked safe in the next release.
GO SMS Pro (com.jb.gosms) - Full range of permissions - read, receive, SMS, MMS, etc., start on boot, record audio and network-based location.
The two that bothers me are record audio, and network-based location. With the abillity of sending and receiving SMS messages it can be used to return GPS location on received SMS to the sender of the SMS. I'm not sure if this is a feature ?
A new version that excludes the for apps above has been rolled on Google Play, and will be available for download in the next few hours.
Thanks once again for the feedback !
Yes. I was referring to the Catch Notes.
Here to consider google has permission on "record phone calls". Believe RECORD_AUDIO is actually needed to work with voice recognition. Seems a bit funky it is not separated into different permissions.
With XBMC I totally don't have problem marking as not spyware since sources are there.
With GO SMS Pro. Yeah, it is a feature for some. But pure GPS location is a bit useless unless filtered through location on a map or accompanied by nearby location.
Yes, you are right about RECORD_AUDIO. The 4 reported apps are already skipped from the scanner in the last version rolled on the market.
Here's the apk, because Google Play will roll it tomorrow I think
Nice app, reported Juice Defender, Desk Notifier and AVG Anti-Virus as suspicious. No biggie to me as I'm pretty sure they're safe lol
For anyone that cares:
PDroid offers an excellent solution to those questionable permissions for the rooted user.
xda-portal article: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/pdroid-the-better-privacy-protection/
thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357056
Thanks ridethisbike !
Strange, but JuiceDefender has permissions to read sms, mms, starts on boot and also GPS and Network-based location ...
AVG Antivirus will be added in the ignore list at the next release of the app.
Cannot find Desk Notifier in the market. Is it there, or that's something custom ?
PDroid is great, just checked it out. I'm using MIUI, and the Superuser app has similar features

Seems that the JuiceDefender has this feature: "auto-toggle WiFi depending on your location" and that's why it needs GPS and Network-based location ...
A new version is rolled on the market skipping AVG and JuiceDefender.
Btw there's already a cracked fake version of the PRO version. Please note that installing the fake version can compromise your Android Device privacy. Also the fake version will not be updated, so you will miss SpyWare definition updates. If anyone needs a free version, just put the FREE one - it's an ad free app, and the new SpyWare definitions are rolled to it too.
Just gave this a little run and it came back with 3 suspicious apps.
HeyWire, SMS Backup and Restore and finally 1tap Cleaner Pro.
I have been using all 3 apps for a long time with no issues and I have never had any concern that they were suspect in any way.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium HD app
More than necessary and definitely a great idea
Great work

It is WRITE_CALENDAR permission. Required for the calendar search and events creation. I do not know why the google name it so. Happy to see new permission model in Marshmallow, - app has support for it.
waw, this is just what I was looking for.
I've been using Call Informer, but isn't updated for a long time ago, and ... most of the times it doesn't work, so this is what I need.
but ... I think it should display all selected fields ( see image below), but I see only notes. Second try I saw also email. Am I doing something wrong?
Also, can this app display notes included on my contacts details?
Thank you for this app, anyway, I'll start trying from now on ...
I don't typically use the native dialer and my carrier number. Instead, 95% of my calls are made/received through Hangouts. Will this work with Hangouts? If not, can it be implemented?
This app is a great idea, by the way!

HappyID should show all available information if android address book contact has one of course. On Marshmallow app should has right permissions available for access the address book. Please try to reinstall (please do not forget to backup notes first) or kill app, maybe something goes wrong.

I understand what you use the other permissions for, but what do you need/ use the following permissions for?
Calendar:
* read calendar events plus confidential information
* add or modify calendar events and send email to guests without owners' knowledge
Other:
* full network access
* view network connections
This is definately an app I would pay for if I can get a clear understanding of the reason for the seemingly unnecessary permissions, especially the full network access permission.

Thanks. That was the answer I was afraid of. As it is now, the Hangouts incoming call screen is abysmal.
Good luck with the awesome app!!
I've had the desire to have an application like this this about 4 months ago.
And it's a pretty good implementation! Do you think it's possible to show the last exchange/sent/received SMS between you and the caller/person you are dialing out. I feel that this would be a tremendous help.
Cheers on the great app. :good:

Notifix
Content Aware Notification Management!
Hassle free categorization of notifications based on its content and type.
Notifix uses app type and processes notification content using machine learning to automatically group notifications into their respective categories - not just based on the app's name. Not just another notification manager!
You can later check those grouped notifications without losing content and the link that the notification carries.
It is powered by TensorFlow™ and is continuously being developed. Feel free to pour in your suggestions!
It automatically categorizes notifications into either of the 5 categories: Primary/Promotions/News/Messages/Social, and they can be separately viewed without losing the deep-link that the original notification carried.
Download: Google Play - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grenadeguy.notifix
Feel free to drop in your views, recommendations, and suggestions!

Permissions explained:
I have given a brief explanation in the Play Store listing.
Notification access: To read incoming notifications and categorize them.
Usage access: To see last used application and clear old notifications.
Contacts: To skip processing SMS/Messages if the sender is in contacts.
Phone: To find the default dialer and skip processing/grouping its notification.
I store the already determined app type and live notifications locally to make it easy to sort. There was also a plan to display an archive of cleared notifications (not carrying the deep-link). So storage is also needed (SQL databases basically).
Hoping to find alternate ways to accomplish those requirements so that those sensitive permissions aren't needed.

And once this happens, newer notifications from Google Play will not be grouped under this group anymore.
Hope you can understand what I'm saying.

why is the "Read contacts" permission needed?
and if possible, could you elaborate on the following 2 permissions as its the first time i saw them in apps?
- "run the application's scheduled background work"
- "update component usage statistics"
thx..
Sounds interesting, but any chance of making the account linking optional? The app won't even start unless you provide a Google account, which is something i'd rather not do until at least after i test the app to see if it's for me or not.

I can make it. But logging in is currently needed for the app to function properly (it's also used for easy categorization inside the app other than just saving your preferences).
I'll look for ways to do that. Hopefully within 1 or 2 updates I can do that.

Introduction
This is an app me and my friend made. We have both dedicated a lot of time towards developing and designing this app and we would be grateful if you give it a shot, and review it. This app is not finished, which is why we would be even more grateful if you could help us develop it - help us make an open source, customizable, simple, fit for anyone - phone app.

Its uses swipes and minimalistic design, making everything more beautiful, intuitive, yet still productive.

In an ongoing call you can:

The app's main goal is to be more intuitive and comfortable,
For that reason, the swipes are the main way of controlling the app, making it much smoother to use.

Hey,
First thanks for sharing the work with community. I am a long time user of exDailer and looking for alternate options as its not actively in development.
Installed Koler app and tried to use the app's Dialer features only. (Because the current google phone app provides multiple features I needed eg: bubble option when not in active screen).
Few observations:
1. Dial pad needs both numbers & alphabets to search a contact by number/name.
2. Swiping on contact is not working - the app switching between recent/contacts/excel tabs.
3. Animations and interface are fluid (I like it)
Looks like the focus of this app is on Phone interface. If possible please consider adding Dailer functions to it to make it complete.
Thank you.
This app is very good ,, best replacement to stock Samsung phone dialer coz Samsung is slow ,,, yet some problems in koler
1. Incoming call sometimes has problem ( while playing landscape game)
2. After receiving call when in calling ui pressing home button disappears the call ( call is yet connected but can't do anything = no notification panel to hang up or anything )
3. Number / name at a time search in phone dialer which is best
4. ( request for feature ) to see most frequently called when you search any name.
Hoping for a fix soon
White is painful to eyes. Is dark mode available?
@NuclearGandhi Bro Why not make this app kitkat (API 16+) support? cause many of us have phone which is old but no custom rom .... those stock user atleast can change there stock dialer app by this..... hope you will think about this
App not found
Hi, I saw your post and thought of giving the app a try but the problem is Im not able to find the app on play store. I tried opening the link to your app but it says "Item not found. Im from India, maybe its a region-specific problem. So can you upload the apk here? Thanks
He seems from India too...
Nvm look at early access section in play store
Very nice app, maybe google can learn from the design of this app.
Maybe adding favorite contacts and changing dial tones could be an option too.
Hi,
I'm in the U.S. and when I try the Google Play Store link it says, "Item Not Found". It seems its been delisted.
TTYL
Can I get apk?(not able to find it on play store)
Has any flashed it with zip file?
Not available in UK either
I am also unable to find it on the play store
Cannot find app on the Play Store. India.
Hi , I just read about a ransomware named 'koler' is targeting Android users by sending a message from your own contact (which is already infected) as your pictures are being misused with a download link. Upon installing and running the app , malware is triggered and displays message as ''your phone is locked for storing/viewing child pornography as it is illegal and asks for some Ransom'' also sends your IMEI to fraudulents.
Once you're infected all your contacts will receive the same SMS message from you, which in turn spreads.
If you guys know anything pls let us know or make a campaign. Just wanted to create an awarness.
Thank you.
Definitely seems to be delisted from Google Play or something.... being a open source app, maybe a listing on F-Droid would be a good place too?

Well, now, at least internet works while it's on, but i can't see it's effectiveness - websites are full of ads.
What filters are you using? At what countries it's targeted on? Too lazy to check&compare internal filter within /data/data

Just sent you message through app. It's quite dissapointing, that logs will be sent to you without user knowing about it - there's no such info, that logs will be sent automatically.

We collect an errors that may occur in the app. We do not use Firebase Crashlytics to restrict access to user data. Please read the terms of the Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy specifies what data we collect, see link: https://adprotect.app/agreements/en/privacy.html
Try remove and install the app again to solve this problem.

i found a similar problem as yours, see here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQuestions/comments/mlituo
An user complains that vpn app doesn't work after rooting and installing Magisk app.
I think that some system apps (such as if the one responsible for VPNs) can be removed after rooting and the magisk app installation.
