eSIM? - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

So, I've read in several places the US N20U has eSIM. I see the eSIM control app is in stalled. But that's all I see of it. Even an article here on XDA says all N20Us have eSIM except Japan, Korea and China. Can anyone confirm? And if so, how? (I've never used eSIM)

Same here, I can't find it. I thought it will have an esim. This is an important feature for me.

Probably as with the S20, It has eSim but it is not enabled. Apparently the US carriers wanted it disabled.

i have esim and worked. German T-mobile

This is brilliant, i just googled about it and my telecom provider in India just started to support esim this year. So finally i can use dual sim and SD card together without carrying an extra phone.

eSIM is CSC feature, In case it is disable then two possibilities to enable
1.If device is non rooted - Try changing one of available CSC that have it enabled
2.In case device is rooted you need a line to add/edit below line
Code:
<CscFeature_RIL_SupportEsim>TRUE</CscFeature_RIL_SupportEsim>

interesting because my Snapdragon/ATT Note20 Ultra 5G lists 2 IMEI numbers on the box and the phone; however, a second nano-sim will not fit in the location the microsd uses.

Thank you Doc. It is crazy that Samsung has been saying they have to "enable this feature via software update" for S20 series in USA, when all they have to do is enable this one line in CSC file and push an update. ?
Apparently they have not enabled it for Note either. Apple/Google have no problems enabling eSIM so I don't get what is the deal with Samsung.

The second IMEI is for the eSIM which is like a virtual SIM. The phone will not take two nano SIM cards, it would only have one nano SIM and one microSD card but if Samsung enables eSIM functionality then you can activate eSIM as 2nd SIM card.

So you don't see this in Settings > Connections > Sim Card Manager?

I have earlier posted on xda and now really worrying
When i was digging over firmware, Surprisingly most of countries (in oxm) now mentioned under "single" in csc partition (now it is called "optics" including INS
So that means they consider e SIM as second sim and not possible to use two physical sim?
Yet I haven't recieved device so can't confirm this.

I live in Europe in two different countries, so I have two fysical nano SIMS installed.
Changing my Voda NL ABO in Esim will not work because they told me that my separate data only card (which I have with no extra abo costs) in my Tablet will not work any more.
But question:
If I already have two NANO cards installed and add an extra Esim. will it work?
Can I use three SIMS together?

A phone having two IMEI's cannot have 3 networks. So it should be limited to two only.

Saw an article where someone tried two nanosims and esim together. So technically only two work at a time, you will have to disable the esim to use the second nanosim and vice versa.

Yeah but it clarifies that 2 physical SIMs are very much possible with INS and putting it under "single" might be related to something else.

Could it be because Samsung still makes dual SiM variants of their devices and having e-SiM active would cannibalize their own sales? Just thinking out loud here.

Dual SIM adapter

Anyone found a decent dual SIM adapter that works with the SGS and retains the full 3G and HSDPA network connections? I'm looking for something that can be manually switched between the SIMs without having to turn off the phone.
The only thing I can find is this but it seems very expensive:
http://www.simore.eu/en/Dual_SIM-168-Dual_SIM_Platinum.php
Any other suggestions?

I'm just giggling thinking of using one of these in one of verizon's upcoming global phones.... a verizon phone with AT&T and T-mobile sims... omg the monthly expenses
Just got the dual sim adapter from dealextreme
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.37817
It's the Q-Power one, works in 3G for both of my sim in Australia (Optus and Telstra).
I'm using the SIMORE option (was stupid enough to spent the 65EU without checking xda!!!).
The adpter works and does what it's suppose to do. The problem I have is that it doesn't change the APN settings automatically. Now I'm looking for an application that changes APNs based on sim card ID.
Any suggestions?
The other problem I see is the scheduling option using Simore isn't that confortable. It's no possible to set an specific time for switching. You have to say the amount of time in HHMM each card will be avaliable and the settings get messed up if you switch between the cards manually.

Dual-Sim Card
Hi,
only a hint and some information for anyone who is intererested in using a dual-sim-adapter in his Galaxy I9000.
I am using the Hypercard V3 Adapter and it works very well. It workes with Eclair as well as with froyo. The adapter was first used in the SE Xperia X1 (I loved it).
The only little problem I have I descrided here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946266
The switch takes nearly 30 seconds until there is radio reception. It took a time to adjust both sim-cards the the adapter, but now it works since many month.
Any Questions? Please send me a message (preferred in german, ohterwise english).
Best regards.

Not that users actually requires dual sim capability, and many of those who uses it are generally company executives and can afford multiple phones~

Do you have a picture of the thing itself and how it looks installed?
And I wonder if both telephone numbers will be available at the same time, or do you need to switch them manually every time?
you have to switch between the sim cards manually, but you can set up a automatically switch all 10, 30min etc
with all dual sim adapter you CAN'T use both sim cards at the same time, because you only have got one antenna
there's a pic (not from me):

Convert SM-G930F to SM-G930FD / Add Dual-SIM-Support

Hello,
i saw videos on youtube, that it's possible to convert the sm-g930f to an sm-g930fd by adding a second imei-number.
I can't paste the youtube link here but you can search "convert sm-g390f t smg930fd" on youtube.
Is it only with a z3x box possible like in the video? someone tried that?

Well the second SIM uses the microSD slot in the dual-sim version but I am not sure if there is a second SIM card reader and a second radio module in the 930F, but it could also be that Samsung used the same motherboard with a different firmware. A detailed picture of both motherboard could help.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/discussion-convert-dual-sim-to-single-t3350731
I can't resist but have a go.. From what I've read most of the 930s (F,W8,S,L,K) use the same hardware (which may or may not be true). All you gave to do is clone the IMEI but here you need a service tool. see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9exv5bRgWY0 . Then order a dual sim tray (mine as 99p inc postage from eBay).
of course it could be a hoax but I then again it may not
Any luck, or was it a hoax?

After some research it would appear that to do this might be illegal in the UK so I think I won't bother. Dual sim phones come with two unique IMEI numbers and to have two sims running with the same IMEI would be inviting trouble.

You mean both sims use the same IMEI? well I have until the 24th October when my dual sim tray will arrive from china to muse over the ethics and repercussions of this.
Edit:
It would appear that Dual sim phones with one IMEI number are the 'one sim working or the other' sort where as you need two IMEIs if both sims are going to be active - https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.mobile.android/Mj86ltfLziE

My moto x play was converted to dual from single sim after flashing a dual sim capable rom. It had one IMEI and both sims were working simultaneously without problem in many EU countries.
I have not tried it with my G930F cause i do not have a double sim tray. I am eagerly waiting for your results. As far as i know, 'FD' devices have HW modem that can support two sims, while devices without 'D' have not. Once again, i am waiting for your results!

Both sims are active? What impact do it have on battery? On the youtube video tutorial someone commented that his phone has heating issues and battery drains fast.
yes boss both sims are active and working fine no issue at all i reset to factory default as well for test this method stay or goes... but its working fine
no heat up issue coz same hard ware no battery drain coz both models FD and F W8 S L K have same models with same hardware and battery...
only required Z3x box for it or pay USD 10$ for it
your phone should be root and install custom rom as i mentioned before
if in case of your software/rom corrupted your phone will be go back to single sim state if you flash with odin default file.

Verizon compatability

Have you tried force enabling LTE via the code *#*#86583#*#* or setting the APN? Also please let me know if you get it working. Thinking of switching back to Verizon from T-Mobile to get better signal and am hoping this phone will work since the mix 2 does.

I have the same problem on Verizon. Enable VoLTE helps. I'm hoping updates will fix that, otherwise I may have to sell this great phone. Unless someone else.has some fixes. I played with different APNs, everytip I could find, no luck. Anybody who has Verizon I'd wait till if there is a solution before buying.

From what I can tell the cdma radio isn't being activated on my unit. This would explain why you get data/calls but can't send texts. I'm wondering if the global unit has cdma properly enabled.
If it helps, this is the networks I can see in my area in the US

I have the global unit too. From everything online I see the CDMA bands between the global mix2 and globlal mix2s are the same, but calls/texts do not work with VOLTE off on the mix2s, while they do on the mix2.
Either some of the bands aren't working, or there is some firmware difference preventing the mix2s from working properly on verizon.
I wonder if the dev rom will work, but I can't find any update packages to the dev rom and my bootloader is locked for another week.

Since he bought a 64gb model in China it has to be the Chinese version (or did he buy it in Hongkong?). Because the 64gb model must be a Chinese model the connection issue must be somewhere else... Are your apn settings correct? You should have just waited a little bit and flash global rom on your own, as soon as a fastboot rom is available it's done in 10 minutes
Not even connecting to the cellular network
So I've just bought a new Mi Mix 2S from gearbest and am having trouble connecting to Verizon in any capacity.
The first and largest problem (at least in my opinion) is that the phone shows no signal at all with the Verizon sim. It just shows unfilled signal bars with an 'x' next to it.
Second is that it appears as though I am not allowed to change the MCC or the MNC. This appears to be the case as when I try to complete this operation, the apn I am editing or creating either gets removed or does not save.
Got any advice?

I used a pre-existing sim/plan. I popped the Sim out of my axon 7 and just put it directly into the mi mix 2S. And for what it's worth, the axon 7 has had no Verizon connectivity issues for the better part of the past two years.

I used a pre-existing sim/plan. I popped the Sim out of my axon 7 and just put it directly into the mi mix 2S. And for what it's worth, the axon 7 has had no Verizon connectivity issues for the better part of the past two years.

I think that's your best option to see what they say, I'm from the UK so I don't have too much knowledge on Verizon themselves, BUT I do know (think I know lol) if you use a device not from them directly, you need to be using a pre-existing SIM/plan

Alright, I'll give it a go later tonight. Thanks for the thought.
Does anyone think that future miui updates will imporve Verizon comparability?

Tomorrow I can unlock the phone and will flash the P preview and let you know if it's miui software preventing it from working on Verizon

Dual Sim

Ordered my 7 Pro this morning. Going to use it to replace my P3XL. How does the Dual Sim work? I currently carry two phones, both Verizon, one for Work and one Personal. Can I put both Verizon SIMs in this phone? Can they both work at the same time or is it one or the other?
Mahalo if anyone knows.
Yes, they will both work simultaneously. I also use a personal and a work sim in my OP6.
You will need to chose your standard in oos for sms, phone and data. But you can always be called at both sims.
Within the caller app you can, again, also decide which sim to use to make an outgoing call.
Within the quick toggles you will be able to change the sim for data on th fly.
Due to the build-in clone function in oos, you can even run 2 times Whatsapp for each phone number separately.
So overall it's super convenient. I would never go back to two phones.
If u ordered from T-Mobile US it will be single sim only

If I order OnePlus from their website, would I be able to to use TMobile + Verizon at the same time?
I'm sick of TMobile digits line, it never works right...

Yes, but of course, Verizon will only get LTE, no 2G/3G so if you are in the few remaining Verizon areas without reliable LTE you won't get service.

I need talk and text only, no data for secondary line - which would be better for this setup Verizon or AT&T (TMobile will be primary line, voice/txt/data/)

Depends, From my understanding Verizon will run talk/text on the LTE network now, AT&T you will get 2G/3G/LTE. Depends on what service has better signal in your area.
Cheapest would be a talk text only plan from us mobile probably

I read some that when they flashed the international version there was a hidden. Second tray
No hidden tray. On the dual sim tray a sim card can be placed on both sides of the tray. You have to purchase a dual sim tray.

dual sim advise
Hi Guys,
I have ordered my OP7 pro and waiting to receive it. I have question for those who have tried it already. How does TMobile and Verizon works together? are you able to setup separate visual voice mail account?
Also, when you are on one call on lets say Tmobile sim, and if someone tries to call you on Verizon line, does call go to voicemail directly or you get call notification as call waiting?
I would appreciate your advice on this matter
thank you

I have TMobile (sim1) and then Verizon prepaid talk and text (sim2)
When I'm on the phone with either line, and someone calls my other line, it goes to VM after few rings.
I couldn't get visual voicemail setup on either line, but it doesn't bother me, since whenever someone leaves VM I get notification and then just call it in. I like my phablet with less clutter hence why I've moved from note9 to opo7
Hope this helps...
help!
Thanks for your help! any one here has any suggestions on if there is anyway to setup call waiting on second line while you are on call from first line? this may be deal breaker for me. any help will be appreciated.
thank you

Question What's better to use, pSIM or eSIM?

If anyone has been following my P7P saga, with the issues and problems.... Here's another question.
Currently my slot 2 eSIM is not recognized by Verizon's database, even though this phone was purchased directly from Verizon. There's a ticket that's been put in to have the slot 2 IMEI number entered into Verizon's database to fix this particular issue.
I had been having issues with my pSIM, so Verizon was going to switch me over to the eSIM to troubleshoot the pSIM, but couldn't due to slot 2 IMEI not being recognized.
I got a new pSIM today, and that seems to have fixed my calling issues. There the possibility that they may however switch me over to the eSIM in a few days...after my S2 IMEI is recognized by the system.
My question is... Are both pSIM & eSIM equivalent in all ways? Is it beneficial to be using one or the other? Basically, do I lose out on any feature(s) by having any particular one? Verizon tells me that only one can be active at any time as per my current contract. I could get both activated if I want to pay for it, for reasons of traveling to other countries for example.
Interesting. A sim card is superior as if it fails it doesn't total the phone. It can also be remotely configured as well as transferred to another phone; very nice if you have a backup phone as I do. Takes the carrier out of the setup loop. You simply slam the sim into the phone you want to use that day. Of course the carrier would love you to have a $eparate sim for each device. The manufacturer likes to save money with no physical sim with the knowledge if the esim fails out warranty it effectively totals the phone.
It's funny how they claim it's 70% more efficient but the last couple generations of smart phones generally have huge batteries and poorer SOT
Reminds me of Intel and MS; Intel builds more powerful hardware while MS compliments it with more overhead. Net result is little user gain.
That's not right.
esim just means that the data is transferred to the phone and its data/functionality is stored in the device's flash memory. This does NOT add any additional points of failure, since if the flash memory or some of the relevant circuitry fails, it will take out the phone whether you are using esim or psim.
What it comes down to is PURELY a matter of convenience. If you travel a lot, it can be more convenient to have the psim slot available to drop in a local sim. If you don't travel a lot, it can be more convenient to keep a psim in case you need to switch to another phone in an emergency. You need to think about what is more convenient FOR YOU and make the decision accordingly.
One additional piece of info; the routines that load the esim from the carrier are implemented in closed source binaries, part of gservices. If you don't trust those binaries, then you might want to avoid esim altogether. Mostly this applies to google-free AOSP distributions, like grapheneos (although they do have the option of installing gservices and esim).
^That's not right...^
The esim chipset mounts on the mobo on older phones. You are correct that it was integrated into at least the newer Qualcomm SOC's.

Regardless it takes away end user options that only a sim card provide.
Lol, better security for the carrier...
Esim is still NOT ready for mass adoption!!!!
Psim all the way for many, many reasons!

I love my sim and expandable storage slots... and the options they give me. Been blowing off the new Samsung flagships for years now because they are less functional. The S23U is an expensive dud too.
Esim is generally better until you have to read out a 30 character EID to a support person. Usually persists through a factory reset too.
If you need to do a lot travelling or network testing, having physical sims might be better until esim MEP is enabled.

Oh yes, you were magnification.
Unfortunately a psim is still more desirable...
I dig the eSIM. Annoys the hell out of me having to pull my phone out of my case to install a pSIM and I don't have to wait for the pSIM to come in the mail. Plus with all the carriers offering free eSIM trials, I could easily go 5-6 months of the year with free service for data and $5 plan for minutes and texts on my pSIM or a second eSIM (if they ever re-activate eSIM MEP, pissed that they removed it since it was working fine for me) as I upgrade yearly.
In my experience it comes down to the telco, some are great with esims others are truly horrendous. I have no experience with Verizon so can't help you directly. Before swapping I would get some clear answers from Verizon about the differences between each sim but more importantly the support systems in place if the esim goes wrong. I am OS at the moment had my phone stolen got a new one and my provider can't seem to get the old esim onto the new phone. It's been over 2 weeks and 32 hours of my time, so make sure you have really robust understanding of how Verizon supports esims. Good luck whichever way you go.

For myself I'm happier with having a physical sim card. I switch between my iphone 14 pro max and pixel 7 pro. I broke the screen on my p7p so I tried to use the esim since that's all you can use for newer iPhones now and with Verizon you need your current phone in order to do the switch on Verizon's website. Long story short I spent an hour chatting with someone and because I couldn't see the code they sent to the p7p to activate the 14 pro max I had to go to a store and show them my license. Than I spent another hour for them trying to activate the iPhone with esim . It was quite the pain in the butt compared to a physical card that you can just switch with another device until you get a replacement device
Same guys going at each other rofl
eSim is much better on iPhone/iOS than on Android 13. I have spent countless and unnecessary hours to fix T-Mobile prepaid eSim issues: redownloading, reading back IMEI/EID number to customer reps, error issues between re-installation of operating systems, etc.
I heard Android 14 would fix this.
Ofc my both sim providers dont do esim.
one question , so p7p accepts 2 esims and one psim ?

I think three esims, except only one of them could be active. Iphone can have two esims active, even if from the same carrier. A lot of catching up to do for Android 14
I have both a psim and esim, both on T-Mobile and there's constantly a significant difference between signal strength between the two. Psim simply gets better reception somehow, to the point the esim ceases to function.

with each security update, it appears the eSim would be treated as associated with the older device. And you need to redownload it or reach out to customer service. At least that's my exp as prepaid customer. Maybe it's diff for postpaid who could manage this on their own
