I'm a little confused about what I can access on the market and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me which app is better for which.
Most of the time I live in China, where it seems all paid apps are blocked.
I downloaded App Brain, which is very cool, but completely blocked in China. So I installed VPN on my Galaxy S phone (which slows my phone down to a painful crawl), but there are still many free apps there which I cannot download, even though my phone should seem like its accessing the Internet from the United States.
I downloaded My Market. Not sure how well it works though. Its supposed to emulate connecting to various national markets.
Just now I downloaded Market Emulator. But I'm not sure which is the best market to log in from, and whether I need this or not (because I have My Market)
Is the situation that I can access different markets using various apps (vpn, app brain, my market), but google payment is somehow tied to a carrier code on the sim card, thus requiring Market Emulator?
Woah! I can answer my own question now. Yes you need market emulator in order to buy apps, even if you use VPN or other methods to "see" the market in another country.
This fact should be spread far and wide. I cannot believe it took me so long to figure this out.
I have tried http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess and it works perfectly.

Just a topic to advise any possible UK buyers who are considering to have this phone. I've managed to install Google services with some guide in this forum . Most of apps working, of course I'm prepared for some Google framework function not work, i.e. Google assistance (voice control ), Google pay with contactless etc. But some key apps not working can rely put me off:
*Barclays UK mobile Banking app: not supported on Play Market, tried to manual install the app with APK files , tried current and various previous versions, none of them worked. So if you rely on mobile banking a lot with Barclays bank, please be alerted. I can't use web version on the phone as the mobile app needs to be supported to generate log in code.
Less urgent case that I can use browser to bear the inconvenience: IHG booking app. Tried various previous version , none worked.
HSBC Mobile Banking for UK: all working fine
HSBC Mobile Banking for Hong Kong: works but does not support Fingerprints Log In.
Appreciate any help if you have any solutions for above apps?
Strange... there has not been any reply on this topic yet ?...
> I can't use web version on the phone as the mobile app needs to be supported to generate log in code.
I'm curious about this. Do you have any more information? Which browser are you using? Did you check the box for 'Desktop site' [1]? I find that works for most things where they check the UA string.
[1] That's what it is for Chrome, but I imagine other browsers have something similar.
Are you sure this is true? I am almost certain that I'm upgrading to this phone.
I was told that all Google apps, play store and generally everything Google related is working on this device from EE. I'm also with Barclays and will need to access that app. If this isn't the case then I will have to consider a different phone.
Still no luck. When searching Barclays app in Playstore , no luck. You can go to web version Google store and try to find this app then it will show app not compatible with this device. I guess Barclays app uses Google safetynet framework which is currently baned on this device.
Hi
I have the Barclays banking app working on my Mate 30 Pro 5G along with several other without any issues. Installed the Playstore as per method and downloaded app as normal. Only thing not working is Google Pay.
Dude , the app doesn't even turn up on playstore what are you talking about ?

Sorry, should have made myself clear. I phoned cloned my apps from my P30 pro across to the Mate 30 pro and the app was there. Logged in no problem
Okay thanks for this ,is this Clone process part of Huawei thingy or independent app?
I've tried Huawei Clone , No chance.
Barclays working fine on my device. I'm from UK and recently got the device from Ee

Did you just download Barclays apps from your play store? That'll be really shocking to me as Barclays app doesn't even show up in my play store.

Morning Huawei users!!
I've been using a Huawei P40 Pro for just over two weeks, Been loving the device & I have found a little golden nugget of an app! Its called Petal Search : Find Apps So I had been using App Gallery, APK pure & Aptoid however I have managed to find a new app which basically hubs all of the apps into this one platform and allows downloads via this app without any real redirection for it, its also ad free. So from a set up/new user point of view this is definitely a key app , I would say its a must have! Especially as you don't need to go trawling the whole of the internet for links for up-to-date apps. :good:
Having used it now for the last couple of days and I've made the decision to remove both APK Pure and Aptoid, The Petal Search app is downloadable from Huawei App Gallery and that's it! You can even add it as a search bar widget on a home screen!
Setting it up is as straight forward as can be, Huawei App Gallery , Search for Petal Search, Install. Then once you're installed you are ready start searching.
Have you had any experience with Petal Search?
EAT.SLEEP.TECH.REPEAT
Really god Application
Hi,
I have actually been using this app and have to say it has one major benefit over More Apps. Its reach is very extensive. More Apps focused on most used apps and was a little limited. But Petal search allows for a bigger array of apps due to it pulling from major app platforms. 100% Recommend it
How have you found its overall functionality?
Petal Search is not available in some countries .. had to switch to United Kingdom
Edit ... just installed .. why is this actually any good? most apps just link to apkpure anyway .. might as well just use apkpure
now uninstalled.

So far Aurora + ApkPure is the best combination for me.

I dont understand .. surely aurora or apkpure is easier than a third party directing (like petal) linking you back to apkpure .. apkpure is not much different to the google play store ... install app, wait for updates, install updates.

Hi mate - do u use a P40 phone at the moment?
Has Aurora and APK Pure got everything you need? Need to look at Petal to see if itll make life easier or harder!
Aside from the obvious such as Gmail, certain apps from my Mate 20 Pro won't clone over (slightly weird as they did the first time I copied over but after resetting and cloning again, they won't).
I can't find them using any of the appstores either. Would my best bet be to Google the app names and apk and download them? I guess the limitation of this would be that they may not be that recent and I'd have to do periodic manual searches for new updates?

1. you mean google for the apk of the following appstores ... aurora, apkpure, aptoide, amazon appstore, f-droid ... install of these apk and enjoy your new google play store .. they are all pretty much the same.
2. install updates as per your new replacement 'google play store' .. just use apkpure, aurora, aptoide, amazon appstore, f-droid ... I have them all installed and update my apps using a different appstore everyday just for fun.
go to update, select apps, hit update, install .. same as the google play store.

Sorry, I was typing that on my phone whilst trying to walk the dog and think it got a bit muddled! I meant for apps that don't clone over and then cannot be found in those appstores? Would I then search for that app's apk in my browser and try and install it that way? Is that safe?
Weirdly, there were some apps that cloned over absolutely fine from my Mate Pro 20 first time and then I reset my P40 Pro and did it again and suddenly a bunch of apps wouldn't clone over... could this be to do with the fact that first time I just cloned over everything whereas second time, I only cloned over some specific settings as opposed to all?

interesting .. maybe because they are paid apps perhaps, then they are not available on the appstores?
what apps?
you wont be likely to find an apk if it is a paid app ... but if you can find an apk for a paid app, then i guess it will be a hacked high risk option from a dodgy website.
seems like phone-clone trouble shooting & testing is your best option .. or a GMS install.

That was more just an example as not all of those apps are available on those stores. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with location services as that appears to be a common denominator for a lot of those apps.

I don't know the answer but all your x3 examples are on the apkpure appstore .. so who cares about the phone-clone? is it better on an appstore, so you can update easily.

If you go on app gallery and download the petal app, ive just searched 'google' and theres a fair few on there that'll do it, diolch.
Thanks, it appears to be the betting apps (e.g. SkyBet that are a bit harder to find, or when found, don't work). I'm still confused as to why lots of the apps transferred over fine last time but won't now.
Going to reset the phone, install Micro-G, clone over my apps and see how I get on with the phone and notifications over the next couple of days and then decide whether I feel I need GMS in order to be able to enjoy the phone.
One thing I will say out of the box is that the battery does not seem as immense as my Mate Pro 20's was when I first bought that... although I suppose cloning everything over is probably quite heavy duty work.

That's the point I was trying to get to, why have loads of different apps when you can have 1 hubbed app.
Following on from last weeks post on banking apps, i thought i would share what banking apps you can get and how without installing GMS. These are just some below, if you know of any others in each category feel free to comment. Looking for no side loaded GMS devices, thanks guys.
App Gallery
Currently none of the mainstream banking apps are available through App Gallery but there are some smaller third party banking apps.

They took their time to do it. Most websites are optimised by now to be honest. I think santander still isn't but apparently the mobile app works on HMS now.
If this had happened to Huawei 8 years ago they may have been in trouble, but theres so many options in 2020 you shouldn't limit yourself, the camera is awesome. Huawei should go down the route of unlocking bootloaders and become to the underground phone champ. But the software ain't bad to be fair

yup i get that, its the same with NatWest, at the moment it appears the only work around is weblinks.
I use the barclaycard app and Pingit a lot, so bit of a pain these arent currently on the Appstore. I took a punt on the P40 Pro as I think they will get the missing apps over tje next few months (I hope). I can login online but then trying to add a payment to the Mrs asks me to login to the App to use the pin sentry, which kinda defeats the online objective lol. The only other app I use a lot is the YouTube app, and so far havent got that working yet. MBNA and Capital One Credit Card apps seem to work ok on the P40
AMEX, TSB, and Revolut all fine as well

When I got my P40pro I first followed a guide to get the limited Google services. Then put the Vanced with the Micro G. So it all works ok. But I'm not sure if the Vanced and micro G will work without going through the Google setup first.
As a side note even after getting the Google going NatWest banking still won't login with the app so I have to use the browser.
I used this guide for Google.

I had same problem with NatWest I have done the icebox method and newest work and Google duo
On the play store I kept hassling NatWest in the review section about p40pro not working, it was a slog but the upshot is I've had a reply saying they are aware newer Huawei models aren't working with the app and they are working with Huawei to try and fix the problem.
I think it might be useful if more NatWest users also comment on the play store review area if your able, even with your old device so it puts more pressure on them to come up with a fix. I would have posted the screen shot but I don't know how on this site.
Hello guys!
Sorry if someone already posted this but I can't find any relevant information that could help me. Been looking through all this info, but nothing that can help me achieve what I want...
Just got myself a new P50 Pro. I unboxed the phone and I find it really amazing in terms of camera (OMG) and OS speed. Next step I tried installing something to make the phone close to something that's running Google Services.
I've heard of GSpace... Ok, I've installed it, but never been more dissapointed in my entire life.
It seems that the apps are somehow locked inside the GSpace app (like a virtual machine in Windows), so the apps take a while to load, but the worst thing possible is that the apps have ads inside them.
I mean try to open Facebook, Chrome or something and an ad pops right in your face.
I've done a full format of the phone right away, and now I'm asking you guys for a solution to bring Google Services somehow more natural to it's original state...
Can I do this, or can I sell the phone, cause I'm 100% sure, I can't live with crap, like GSpace nor without Google Services...
Thanks in advance!
Anyone?
Huawei mate 40 pro here.
It has taken a while and some testing. I can honestly say that it is worth the effort.
Look around for microG workaround to get notifications working.
Gspace is working better without microG, and it does not cost that much to pay to lose the ads. I have already done that. Gspace can also send shortcuts to the homepage of your launcher.
You have bought a special phone, amazing hardware but a bit crippled without GMS.
Try firefox instead of chrome, try installing apps via appgallery, and something like aurora or other apk store for everything else.
Outlook or other mail client also works just fine.
I have got around 140 apps, it is doable
So, without GSpace, nothing else?
@khrystyan27, many Google apps are running without problems even without GMS.
Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, those are running fine without GMS.
I use, on Mate40 pro, alot of apps without any problem (in addition to those listed) ... Telegram, Signal, Yahoo mail, Google translate, etc ...
As an alternative to YouTube, I use YouTube vanced (with the possibility of logging in).
Even Maps are running fine, without loging options, offcourse. If I want to connect to Maps, I use it into Ourplay (I tried GSpace too, I didn't like it).
Even the banking applications are starting to work, more and more, for NFC payment.
I use PayPal or Curve without any inconvenient, together with local banking applications.
So, before to use those apps you need into the virtual machines like VMOS, GSpace or Ourplay (that's what these applications are, virtual machines), try to use them normally.

Strava works fine in gspace. Maybe you need to step back and realise that you've allowed yourself to become locked in to Google like an iPhone user is locked in to Apple.

Maybe I should step back. But where to? Honestly Gspace is crap. I am locked to google with a lot of apps - no doubt about it (no games at all). Guess what. It works. Apple users do not complain at all.
Right now I have this phone at home unused with a map named NOT WORKING of some 20-30 apps (bank, parking, navigation, measuring tools and specific work apps). And I cant sell the phone because everybody now know the problem. It is CRAP without GMS. You can step back if you want. I can't.
I am simply waiting for someone to put on Harmony OS on international version, make it usable and sell the damn thing ASAP!
I keep hearing about navigation apps that don't work ...
Which are those ??
Is everyone really stuck on Android Auto or on Maps with login ?? Otherwise, Maps works perfectly without logging in ...
Waze, Petal maps, Here we go and many others are working fine too.
Even in Romania we have more and more functional banking applications on phones without GMS ...
Curve payments can be used for NFC payments, if the personal application used is not yet available in the App gallery.

And how exactly does Harmony make it more useful?

Of course, with the help of microG.

I always get issues trying to connect my google account with MicroG, probably doing something wrong.
