Natwest is currently not on HMS but the website has been mobile optimised so it will work better than it has done ?

My wife has a P40 Lite and uses Barclays - we simply added a Website shortcut to her home screen and Password Vault remembers her main info with just a pin option to log in - really simple work around with no issues.

They took their time to do it. Most websites are optimised by now to be honest. I think santander still isn't but apparently the mobile app works on HMS now.
If this had happened to Huawei 8 years ago they may have been in trouble, but theres so many options in 2020 you shouldn't limit yourself, the camera is awesome. Huawei should go down the route of unlocking bootloaders and become to the underground phone champ. But the software ain't bad to be fair

I was trying to find out if Phone Clone was safe or not - Ive read its very good but nothing else.

Phone clone is safe to use. It creates its own bubble around the two phones when transferring files. Super simple and easy to use.

Its a bit of a pain that Barclays doesnt work, i have a current account, a credit card and a savings account with them so need the 2 apps.
Not the worst thing in the world as their web browser version works but ah well

yup i get that, its the same with NatWest, at the moment it appears the only work around is weblinks.

I use the barclaycard app and Pingit a lot, so bit of a pain these arent currently on the Appstore. I took a punt on the P40 Pro as I think they will get the missing apps over tje next few months (I hope). I can login online but then trying to add a payment to the Mrs asks me to login to the App to use the pin sentry, which kinda defeats the online objective lol. The only other app I use a lot is the YouTube app, and so far havent got that working yet. MBNA and Capital One Credit Card apps seem to work ok on the P40

AMEX, TSB, and Revolut all fine as well

When I got my P40pro I first followed a guide to get the limited Google services. Then put the Vanced with the Micro G. So it all works ok. But I'm not sure if the Vanced and micro G will work without going through the Google setup first.
As a side note even after getting the Google going NatWest banking still won't login with the app so I have to use the browser.
I used this guide for Google.

I had same problem with NatWest I have done the icebox method and newest work and Google duo

On the play store I kept hassling NatWest in the review section about p40pro not working, it was a slog but the upshot is I've had a reply saying they are aware newer Huawei models aren't working with the app and they are working with Huawei to try and fix the problem.
I think it might be useful if more NatWest users also comment on the play store review area if your able, even with your old device so it puts more pressure on them to come up with a fix. I would have posted the screen shot but I don't know how on this site.

UK Users to note: Barclays banking app not supported on mate 30 pro

*******Resolved********
See my later comments below.
Just a topic to advise any possible UK buyers who are considering to have this phone. I've managed to install Google services with some guide in this forum . Most of apps working, of course I'm prepared for some Google framework function not work, i.e. Google assistance (voice control ), Google pay with contactless etc. But some key apps not working can rely put me off:
*Barclays UK mobile Banking app: not supported on Play Market, tried to manual install the app with APK files , tried current and various previous versions, none of them worked. So if you rely on mobile banking a lot with Barclays bank, please be alerted. I can't use web version on the phone as the mobile app needs to be supported to generate log in code.
Less urgent case that I can use browser to bear the inconvenience: IHG booking app. Tried various previous version , none worked.
HSBC Mobile Banking for UK: all working fine
HSBC Mobile Banking for Hong Kong: works but does not support Fingerprints Log In.
Appreciate any help if you have any solutions for above apps?
Strange... there has not been any reply on this topic yet ?...
> I can't use web version on the phone as the mobile app needs to be supported to generate log in code.
I'm curious about this. Do you have any more information? Which browser are you using? Did you check the box for 'Desktop site' [1]? I find that works for most things where they check the UA string.
[1] That's what it is for Chrome, but I imagine other browsers have something similar.
Are you sure this is true? I am almost certain that I'm upgrading to this phone.
I was told that all Google apps, play store and generally everything Google related is working on this device from EE. I'm also with Barclays and will need to access that app. If this isn't the case then I will have to consider a different phone.
Still no luck. When searching Barclays app in Playstore , no luck. You can go to web version Google store and try to find this app then it will show app not compatible with this device. I guess Barclays app uses Google safetynet framework which is currently baned on this device.
Hi
I have the Barclays banking app working on my Mate 30 Pro 5G along with several other without any issues. Installed the Playstore as per method and downloaded app as normal. Only thing not working is Google Pay.

Most banking apps can be phone-cloned or installed from APKPure, Aptoide, Aurora stores ... just notifications are screwed up on pretty much everything at the moment .. even apps in the Huawei App Gallery.
I got the banking app to install it even let me register with all my banking detail but soon as you go to log in it come up with not Internet connection
Your options are:
1. HMS + GMS and test
2. HMS + microG and test
3. Use web browser for banking
4. Wait for months or years for app update
I have GMS installed and I use ING Homebank and Unicredit, everything works fine.
I have GMS installed and the notifications (icebox) fix and everything fine for my Santander App (UK)

Banking apps on HMS

Hi everyone.
I'm new to the forum and thought it would be a god opportunity to discuss banking apps. I have been trying to test banking apps via friends, family to see what works. I have built a tech channel and that's why I'm testing, because some of the biggest questions are around apps and more specifically banking apps. I wanted to share my findings and see if anyone else has had experience with any other banks. The below list has been tested through me and work on HMS as an application. I look forward to your input.
Banking apps that are working on HMS,
Tesco
First Direct
Halifax
Loyds TSB
Nationwide
Santander
HSBC
Monzo
It appears most Banking Apps are easily accessible either through Huawei's App Gallery, Phone clone or APK or Standard weblink and save as a shortcut, what do you all think?

Thanks Jay, i haven't tried NatWest yet so this is useful to know. Like a lot of apps it will take time for them to be accessible n HMS, but the growth they have had in a short period of time is pretty impressive. My advice would be to access it via the browser and then save it as a shortcut to your home screen for now.

I have seen that advertised but haven't ever tried it or met anyone that has. How did you download it? Also i know a lot of people are side loading GMS which can potentially cause minor issues as GMS and HMS aren't built to work together. So if you have that could be one reason?
For banking apps there are three possibilities. (as for my opinion)
1- The app is on AppGallery, go ahead and download it and start using it.
2- The app is not on AppGallery, and is working fine if cloned from another device, also go ahead and use it.
3- The app is not on AppGallery, and won't run if cloned. Please do not side-load it from external sources for security reasons obviously. Live with the browser until the app is available on AppGallery or get yourself GMS installed and then get the app from the Playstore.
I went for the 3rd option and installed GMS as my local bank "SABB" app is not yet available on AppGallery and not working when cloned.

If what the people posted are correct, MicroG should be the one help with push notification.
My understanding is
1. Install Icebox before you put anything. It requires ADB and you need to remove your Google Accounts beforehand.
2. Install GMS
3. Disable GMS with Icebox
4. Install MicroG
5. Install all the apps that you want. Make sure you have microG first before installing apps
Technically you can get all the apps that you want with microG and PureAPK. but I went with the hard route
PS: I still haven't done it because I need time to backup my P40 Pro again, I don't feel like repeating from step 1 again after installing GMS and the apps configuration

Hi, I'm interested to get your thoughts. So a lot of people seam to be installing GMS despite it causing issues as its running with HMS. What would you say is your main reason for wanting to install GMS? I have the P40 Lite and i have got a P40 Pro on the way none of which ill be using GMS on just HMS core.
The way i see it is peoples main needs are,
Social media, which you can get via Phone Clone, App Gallery, or Petal search which pulls from major APK sites.
Maps, you can use Google maps via Phone Clone but cant log in or Here we go maps which is actually pretty good.
Banking Apps, most of which work through phone clone, App Gallery. and the ones that don't can be saved as a shortcut for now whist it grows.
Email, you can still use your Gmail account via Huawei's Email
Backing up data/ Photos can be done via Huawei Cloud
Accessing Google Photos can be done via Shortcut or from a PC/Laptop
What are your thoughts?

Hi. For me I didnt face any issues with both HMS & GMS together. The only known problem is Gmail notifications do not show up and I am using the default email app instead.
And yes I could add the URL of the bank on my homescreen but some how I still need GMS for many apps such as Maps, WhatsApp backup and many more. Plus I the banking app is much easier than using the web page obviously.
With GMS, I don't have any issue with YouTube, or Google map. I don't care about push notifications much but for some reasons my Bank N26 requires push notifications and it doesn't seem to be clickable when I need to confirm a transaction.
This is the only thing why I need push notifications.

P40 Pro with HMS, No GMS

Hello everyone,
So i have been posting about banking apps how to get them and other apps. I have noticed a lot of people side loading GMS or trying to and was wondering why?
I don't have GMS on my device, I'm happily using HMS as the two are not built to run together. I have all my banking apps, social media, games ect on HMS via Phone clone, App Gallery and Petal search. I still use my Gmail via the Huawei email apps no problems.
Would love everyone's feedback as to why the need for GMS?
I have been temped to load it on myself. The issue for me would be my ease of use with all the apps under one store and not having to rely on your banking to come across from previous phone. Also with the GMS again it is the ease of use knowing I can log on my laptop after and it is synced over, Youtube is a big thing for many people aswell. I used Vanced, which is good but i can't log in and subscribe to channels i am a fan of also it doesn't hold the place in the video you are watching if you need to close the app for various reasons.
I have also considered a side load but tbh there's nothing on gms I that I don't already have on my p3
40 Pro.
When I cross refrenced the Google Services I actually only ever used Photos, Maps and YouTube
For me having these replacements from the get go on my Huawei P40 Pro was a easy transition - Huawei Cloud, Here We Go and YVLR
HMS is bigger and better than I thought, Android OS has helped massively.

I am perfectly happy living within Huawei's ecosystem
So Barclays is a go to for me and to have it on my P40 Pro would be amazing I am currently using the weblink saved to device but find myself using Barclays official app on my Huawei M5, I hope Barclays can devolp an app for HMS this side of the year.
GMS is no big requirement for myself I looked at the GMS folder and only every use Photos, Maps and YT all of these have a workaround on HMS, goodbye GMS hello HMS.

Hi, so i would say best approach for a lot of this is,
1 Download petal search, this gives you access to many app stores via one application. Making life easy.
2 Use Huawei ID which you can set up in settings, this allows you to do the same thing you can access your device from a laptop and pull over all the info from your phone which is cool.
3 The banking app i wouldn't say is a massive thing in regards to using Phone Clone, most people will use this app when setting up there new phone to pull your data over. So its not adding any more steps in for set up.
4 I personally just use the browser for YouTube and save it as a shortcut to my home screen. You can log in and when you switch window it saves your place on the video, so if you need to send a text ect this is perfect.

So Barclays is a go to for me and to have it on my P40 Pro would be amazing I am currently using the weblink saved to device but find myself using Barclays official app on my Huawei M5, I hope Barclays can devolp an app for HMS this side of the year.
GMS is no big requirement for myself I looked at the GMS folder and only every use Photos, Maps and YT all of these have a workaround on HMS, goodbye GMS hello HMS.[/QUOTE
This big thing i think people are missing is, people swap from IOS to Android every day. They swap from one system to another one, now there's a third option. And if you have seen IOS 14 they are looking to adopt 3rd party apps which is what HMS already offers.

I hope this helps

Yeah this is pretty helpful thanks. Just the ease of a Youtube app that i can login on.

Huawei have done a good job at making the transition easier for user coming from GMS Huawei or other phones like IOS or Android ect. There are easy work arounds for everything and if you love having complete control HMS is 100% what you want.

Browser or Youtube Vanced are good options.
I have GMS installed for a couple of minor local apps but the majority works fine with HMS give it a bit and i will remove GMS.
My only gripe for now would be Android Auto which i use daily.
Help
I have a mate 20 pro I am using outlook and my main apps are Twitter Instagram YouTube what's app and telegram I am not interested in Google maps there are better alternatives and i store my photos in cloud Huawei . To think Huawei has been through leaps and bounds and now with the Trump tantrum its only proved how strong Huawei are and to think Huawei have started up HMS with Android in a very strong position unlike most quote Nokia / Microsoft / Blackberry.

When i have used auto in the passed i have found it very inconsistent. Found waze is the best for maps.
Ive tried a sideloaded mate30 pro and initially I thought it was a wow moment, but after a couple of weeks I realised I wasn't getting the best out of my device especially as it hugely affected the battery performance, and since giving that to my wife and sharking her upgrade to the p40 pro I can say I prefer the HMS device. Shes reset the phone and stripped out GMS or shall i say I did lol and other than the Barclays app we are sorted. I mean utilising phone clone/app gallery/ petal search im completely set up. I was ever so worried about the function of not being able to cast to my chromecast however on my smart tv downstairs I can screen share using the wireless projection function. SO life continues and my device is awesome

Well it depends i dont have issues now with my P40 P but i did with my S20U. Also firmware of the car and a good cable is important. For now it is stable.
TBH it might have just been the car that was the issue. Always use the cable that is provided with the device.

What car do you drive? I have an Audi atm and have just had zero luck getting it to work either on older GMS devices. I'll continue to angle my phone in the cup holder.... I heard rumours of something called HiCar coming later down the line? :cyclops:

Question Google on P50 Pro?

It feels like I've watched every video and read every article on the internet to try to get Google apps onto this phone (HarmonyOS 2.0).
I've got some of the apps to work but not all. For example "SoundCloud won't run without Google Play services, which are not supported by your device."
I've tried Googlefier but it seems I can't downgrade the firmware to get it to work.
@Archibald1963's videos about OurPlay have been the most promising, but I'm still stuck.
Any and all suggestions are most welcome!
Harmony 2.0 if I'm not mistaken is huawei's no google software, created after the woman got kidnapped and held for ransom by canada for usa, leading to any of the three eyes (old 5 eyes nations) banning huawei devices from a certain date. Yeah some apps will work, but it's actually designed to block google, in retaliation, the uk banned huawei.
Strange how talktalk routers are huawei, even the latest... EE use them too!
It was created for those who want rid of googles spying. This MAY cause your problems.
I dumped huawei when they decided to stop unlocking bootloaders, and never followed up in that direction, but will keep tabs here in case old huawei knowledge is required..
Android apps run without problems if they do not require google services. All videos for native installation of gms currently do not work on the P50 Pro.
I myself use GSpace and VMOS Pro and Youtube Vanced with microG. The notifications work fine, my banking app does not work.
In this video from link below is said that googlefier works after an update of Harmony 2.0.0.35. Can someone confirm this?

I have the international model with EMUI 12 where I could not make it work.

If I could make it worh with Harmony OS update it would be fantastic. Someone did it with updates (location changed to Hong Kong), noone could do the same.

Nope. Huawei locked the bootloader, so that there will be no custom mod available for this global version. What is so annoying that this phone system relies on Gspace in order to google based app to work. For mobile banking and e-wallet apps, this is dangerous because lack of security, and Gspace also unstable and causing temperature rise during use.

What banking applications do you use?
Can't find them in the App gallery?
On Mate40 pro I use 2 local banking applications (one of them for NFC payment), plus Curve (strictly for NFC payment).
Banking applications require installation from the App gallery.
Curve, for example, only works if installed from the App gallery.

All of my banking apps work just fine without GMS. And I use Curve and that works perfectly. Funnily enough Huawei wallet doesn't need GMS neither.

I use Aurora which is just an open source front for the Play store. https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/community/details/Store-on-your-HMS-device-with-Aurora/topicId_47814/
Some banking applications only work if they are installed from the App gallery.
That's why I said that the App gallery should be the first store used.
If these apps work if installed from Aurora, that's a bonus.

In my experience most apps are the same in both stores. Writing an app that uses native android api as opposed to either GMS or HMS is a lot easier than maintaining two android builds.
I couldn't use my local banking app until they put it in the App gallery, even though it was in the other app stores.
I'm talking about an app that worked perfectly on GMS phones, but didn't work on GMS-free phones, found in all other app stores, not in the App gallery too.
Also introduced in the App gallery, it worked perfectly on phones without GMS.

And that's the problem. To many lazy coders out there.
I have yet to find a family tracking app that works without GMS and yet no other app has problems with using my location.
