T-Mobile OnePlus 7 Pro bricked - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi there!
I have experience with unlocking bootloaders and rooting, but I am really really stuck here. I tried following these instructions with this MSM tool to convert it to an Unlocked version. My OP7P is stuck in an endless boot cycle and says "Upgrade download failed! Please check your download flow is right!" I don't like to leave it on the charger for very long because it just reboots endlessly and I don't think that's good for the phone, but otherwise it won't charge. My Windows computer doesn't recognize the device when checking for adb or fastboot in CMD. I can get it to be recognized in the MSM tool by holding the volume buttons and then plugging it in, and the process starts correctly, but fails after 10-15 seconds.
I have uninstalled and deleted and reinstalled drivers countless times. I've tried to follow these directions and these as well with the same results.
This is replacing a broken LG G6 with a non-functioning speaker mode, abysmal battery life, terrible camera quality, and slow performance. My purchase of the OP7P was supposed to solve all of that with a premium smartphone and right now it's just an expensive paperweight sitting on my desk.
What can I do? Thanks so much in advance!

Tool all in one, fastboot mode, flash Factory Images, download stock rom, check wipe all data and reboot after flash

Ya do what he said do. But if using the msm tool open up device manager and plug in it phone and adb reboot edl whatever that command is. Then go to ports on the device manager and check and see if I have the qcom driver installed. I forget exactly what it supposed to say but it has 9008 in it. I am just gonna tell you I have 2 oneplus 7 pro both tmo brand. I converted them. But idk what it is tho. Each time I change phones to flash rom or whatever I do sometimes the way I do it changes. I am firm believer idc what so and so says it may work one way or another. These phones are crazy weird. The processes change like when I flash using the tool he is talking bout sometimes I lose my network sometimes I don't. Some ppl say when u flash twrp using magisk u gotta flash the the twrp zip once in twrp. Sometimes I don't have to. But when I do it says I lose root but I don't. Just check ur drivers and make sure ur using the right msm tool either global or the T-Mobile

I'll try those, thanks! I can't seem to find the T-Mobile stock ROM though.

You been MSM tool for tmobile it's here on the forum.

I'm getting that if I'm trying to use wrong MSM tool on my TMO phone. It has to be one for TMO specifically, not any other universal MSM tool. So make sure you got TMO one.

Oneplus6 Stuck on rolling dot

Hi all,
My stock ROM Oneplus 6 (3 weeks out of warranty :crying: ) became unresponsive today and crashed.
It failed to boot back in to the OS so I cleared cache - no better, then system settings - no better, then data - no better - but this time I got the Qualcomm crash dump mode.
I've used MSMDownloadtool to flash first - enchilada_22_O.09_180517, then after that did not boot i tried - enchilada_22_O.30_190403.
MSMDownloadtool 'worked' as far as I can tell, as all messages were positives (no errors) and the phone restarted
But unfortunately both have the same result, the phone is stuck on the android spinning dots - no Qualcomm crash dump anymore - small blessings.
I can get into both recovery and fastboot, but I'm at a loss as to what to try next.
I thought the MSMDownload tool was the nuclear option and would work - but no.
Would anyone have any suggestions ?
Thank you!
Dan
Try to flash a stock rom with fastboot, you can find a stock one in the forum and will find a batch file that will flash all the partitions for you, good luck

Thank you Chinaroad,
I'm sorry for the stupid question, but I thought the MSMDownloader tool was a stock ROM installed through fastboot - this is all new to me - do I need to follow a different method ?
Thanks again
Dan
The msm is a tool that flashes the stock rom at another level than fastboot, and yes as you said it's the ultimate solution and it's strange that it doesnt work for you, so since you can access to fastboot, try to flash it that way without using msm

I'm trying the flash-all.bat method, but the guide I'm using (and the program output) tells me the bootloader must be unlocked - of course it isn't.
I've tried Tool All in one to unlock the bootloader - but I get the error message Failed (remote: 'Flashing unlock is not allowed')
What step am I missing...
Sorry, and thanks again
Dan
it says flashing unlock is not allowed cuz i think it needs to be activated in dev menu of the phone, but since you can't power it up ..... . So lets comeback to MSM, are you sure all the files are there and you get no output error?

I've weakened and gone for an RMA - in some vain hope that they'll offer a warranty repair :fingers-crossed:
I've followed the guides for MSM to the letter, and it gave only positive feedbacks - but then just wouldn't complete the boot.
From reading these forums - anyone at the stage / with the symptoms I found myself with seems to have been resolved with an RMA
I guess if I'm an idiot and it was software, then the charge won't be huge, I'll suck it up - if I'm not and the issue was hardware then I'll make a descision when I know.
Thanks for your time, and I'll be sure to feedback !

One Plus 7 Pro 5G UK - Bricked PLIS HELP.

Yep, thats right, another thread about a bricked OPO
I made the mistake of deciding to unlock bootloader, flash TWRP and run a custom rom, after about 10 minutes of being awake.
Long story short, my device is now stuck in bootloop. I have no recovery on the device anymore, not even stock OPO, and obviously no rom.
I belive this is because i ran the fastboot command, 'fastboot flash boot twrp.img' instead of 'fastboot boot twrp.img' either way....
Device will boot into fastboot, and I THINK, it boots into EDL. The device shows in device manager, and in MSM software, but there is no notice on the screen of the device.
I have tried to get back up and running using both methods below to no joy.
Flashing
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-7-pro-t3931424
MSM
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/op7pro-collection-unbrick-tools-t3956595
On the back of my device, there is a sticker, which displays my IMEI number, Serial etc etc, and shows the model of my device being GM1920, a model number I see no where in this forum. So now I'm thinking, "Do I have a device thats not compatable with all this, all i see is GM21AA, GM21AB etc etc.
Some body please give me something to go off, I've had android devices for 10+ years and have never managed to brick a phone into non exsistance. I can provide as much detail as you would like, anything that would help you to help me.

Heya, Ive checked em.
I've managed to fix the issue now, as you probably know, I was being a derp, and just not getting the right varient of fastboot rom for my device, I just didnt have my head screwed on properly lol. Anyway, the device works, I have stock rom, recovery, phone boots into EDL and displays the message as it should, everythings working right. Just need to get TWRP flashed and get a custom rom running now.
Appreciate your reply!! Can I still join in telegram? Would be nice to be in a community with GM1925/GM1920 users.

Issue with OOS flashing in TWRP

Hello,
I did a factory reset of OnePlus 8, and I also wiped the system partition. Now the only thing left on my phone is TWRP. I'd like to flash OxygenOS, so I downloaded a signed flashable zip on this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8/how-to/oneplus-8-repo-oxygen-os-builds-t4084233
But when I flash it with TWRP, it says (in blue)
"flashing A/B zip to inactive slot : A"
Step 1/2
and it's been like this for quite some time now. I wonder if I've done something wrong ? Or should I wait ?
Thanks !

It should take since time but I would say no more than ten to fifteen minutes to complete. Unfortunately I don't want you to stop the process now that it's started that could definitely render it inoperable.
If it does come out of it with an error then just try again but be careful and make sure your can MSM your phone to previous version. I did my TMO to Global flash through zip file with the run all bat. That was pretty damn easy. Happy modding!

I left it for more than an hour and it was still on step 1/2. So I stopped the process by rebooting with ADB. When I did that it wiped my /sdcard. I tried to flash OOS again but same result ... I've never heard of MSM before. I just googled it and I see that's it's an unbrick tool only available for Windows but I'm using a Mac. I can still use my brother's laptop which runs Windows 10 but I'd like to know if there's any alternative before doing that.
I really just want to get OOS back Not crossflashing or downgrading
Thanks !

I followed this video and it helped me to solve the problem.
I had problems with EDL-mode too. Try the EDL-mode by just pressing the volume up button and use the phones own cable.

Hi,
You may try to boot to safe mode. Just a thought. If you choose to do it, I am not responsible if it would not work or if something else wrong happens.
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply thats fine im ok i just want to try and get it back its a brand new phone
Method 1. Download Full ROM, and Payload Dumper. Extract payload.bin and put it to payload_input folder and all *.img files will be in payload_output folder. Use fastboot flash boot boot.img command and reboot. Device should work after reboot. If you need root, either flash a patched boot.img or use flashboot to flash TWRP and then install Magisk from TWRP.
Method 2. Manually flash *.img files. Reference: [GUIDE] Unbrick or restore to OOS using only fastboot
Method 3. Use MSMtool to wipe and restore your phone.
Note: If you lost WiFi AFTER your device is rooted, and if you ever installed a custom kernel, it's probably the RAMDISK (can't remember where I saw it before) causing the issue. Easy solution, flash same custom kernel again. Or try different kernels.
So these unbricktools here don't work for you?

EDL mode will disconnect/reconnect several times and change connection protocol. Your virtual machine may lost device due to this process.
So better on Windows PC.

I applaud your use of linux! Unfortunately, I've not found a good solution under linux to do what the windows MSM tool can do. I had to book in to a full Win install in order to use it on my phone as well.
On a positive note, it's nearly impossible to truely brick these phones. The negative is the MSM tool needs windows. Unless someone can point to a linux solution (which I'd love) you may need to find a friend with Windows and borrow their computer...
The fact you are in fastboot loop makes me think you should be able to just fastboot flash everything manually. MSM is the nuclear option. I'd try getting the stock full ROM and manually flashing everything in fastboot.
What fastboot are you using? I've found that the one in many linux distributions are old. Download the latest from Android https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-linux.zip and use this.

EDL mode will reboot itself if there was no command sent to the phone. So you need to run MSM tool first and once you see the phone is recognized, just execute.
A real Windows should make whole process a lot more easier. If you use a VM, as long as Windows can recognize Qualcomm Modem driver, it should work too.

OnePlus 8 TMO Missing IMEI and can't unlock bootloader

Hey yall, I really need some help.
So some back story:
I started using a oneplus 8 TMO version and wanted to unlock the bootloader to get android 12 and root the phone. So I went through the process of getting an unlock token and when I finally got it, unlocked my bootloader, flashed the global version of oxygen os, and got it updated to android 12. Everything was working great. So then I wanted to root the phone so I downloaded twrp, booted into fastboot, and tried flashing it. The phone then booted into the system even though I told it to boot into recovery. After about a minute or so it froze and rebooted into a kernal panic. I unfortunately do not have what it said and cant repeat the process, but it booted into recovery and I clicked reason for boot and it said something about the kernal. So after a reboot it then went into crash dump mode. So I had to use the msm download tool (unfortunately I only had the tmo msm version and thought I could just repeat the process because I had slow internet and didnt want to download the global msm tool) to get the phone working again. So booted into edl mode, reflashed the phone, and it booted up. The problem now is that I do not have an IMEI number. I have a wifi address, bt address, and everything else that makes me assume that the efs partition is still ok (but I dont know enough to debate that) but it does not recognize my sim card. The phone also freezed and restarts approximately every 30 seconds.
And now my problem and what I have tried:
Because I have no IMEI I cannot enable oem unlocking in developer settings, cant flash anything in the bootloader - including the unlock token - and can barely do anything in the system because it only stays on for small amounts of time. I have tried many imei write tools such as qualcomm smartphone write imei, readnwrite tool, fastboot imei writer, miracle box, and I think some others but none of them recognize my phone. Ive also tried the oneplus debloat and oem unlock script to try and bypass the setting but it didnt do anything. I have dialed *#801# and was able to enable engineering mode and diag toggle but it still didnt do anything for me. So I really dont know what to do any more. When in the bootloader or recovery the phone does not reboot, so I can stay there as long as I need. Any help on this would be greatly, greatly, greatly appreciated.

Yeah unfortunately that hasn't worked... I've done it miltiple times with the T-Mobile one and can't use any other one because I don't have an unlocked bootloader... If I had a way to bypass the oem unlocking option in the settings then I might have a chance to fix it but don't know how to do that...

Thanks for the response! And I am so sorry but what do you mean by unbrick file? I just had to download the tmobile version of the msm tool. yeah, that's it. it's related to version of msmdownloadtool. some of them must have a newer version. i had the idea from someone else on this forum too. glad it helps. be careful not upgrade to android 12 for now. i think it's because of the way oos12 detects phone varient causing the modem to go crazy. not sure tho. would love to see someone figures it out
