Go to network settings in Windows, find the option to create a new network, then choose to create an ad-hoc network, configure its settings the way you want, click ok. Then see if it is broadcasting a Wifi signal.

Reverse Tethering, G1 use the PC ADSL Connection

I am using now the G1 connected wifi to the PC Network Card (without a Wireless router)
It is simple if you have a network card that support AP Mode, I am using on the PC a PCI Card Kraun 300N that support AP mode.
After installing the driver and the utility, I have an icon in the tray Ralink Wireless Card, and with the right click I can choose AP Mode and setup the Adapter as Access Point with the security too.
Don't forget to share the connection:
Right-Click the connection you are currently using to access the internet. Click Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and check “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection”.
This is simple if you have an adapter that support AP Mode, but before the Kraun Card I was using an usb wifi adapter that there wasn't the AP Mode, and with the Ad Hoc connection that normally you use for PC to PC, there was no way to recognize the PC Wifi on the G1.
I hope someone find a way to use a reverse tethering with a simple ad hoc connection.
i'm trying to find out a way to connect to a computer with ad hoc and share the internet on my G1. i'll let you know what i find

OK, so the OP is saying that he's sharing his PC's internet connection via wifi with his G1.
You're talking about the opposite, correct? Using the data connection from the phone to get a PC on the internet?
There are a couple of apps that do this, but I think they require the phone to be rooted. There's a wifi tether program (for rooted phones) where the G1 becomes a 3G WAP and PCs can connect to the phone and through the phone access the internet. There's also an app or two to do it via the USB connection (I'm not sure if those require root or not)
Here's one app. I know I've seen it recommended, but I don't personally know anything about it.
http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.php
nope, we are both talking about
PC has internet.
G1 has no inet
set up ad hoc on computer
connect G1 (figure out a way to connect to an adhoc network)
share PC's inet through windows ICS.
PC internet to G1 through USB
Okay, I know how to use an AD-HOC connection using the wireless, but how about using the USB connection to get internet to the G1 using the PC's internet connection...I have searched and have not found anything on this Unless I am blind does anyone know how this can be done?

Reverse Tethering?

At work, there's no Wi-Fi and no T-Mobile signal.
Is there a way to use my PC's network connection to provide data to my phone? I have a rooted Android phone.
I´m also looking for this.
It is the same thing we can do with ActiveSync in Windows Mobile: you get internet access trough your PC...
I hope someone can help us with any clue.
Thank you.

Like USB tethering? I thought there was a USB tethering app on the market.

Hi both of you!
It's called ad hoc network, if you have Vista or Windows 7, do like this:
Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Set up a new connection or network -> Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer to computer network) -> Follow instructions!
Good luck
You forgot to mention the tiny problem that Android has do damn Ad-Hoc support....
honestly just try starting your own network go grab a wifi dongle thats capable and go from there that or get a wireless router and try that sharing the internet connection to the router OR bluetooth connection if your phone is capable ! many different ways ive tried them all but usb tethering ive never heard of out side of wm os
It is possible...
I wrote about this before. It is possible to do via usb cable if you use Sense as it is a standard feature in Sense connection... Just plug in and you can choose to use PC internet connection.
I have done it a lot with my PC

My custom rom (x10 mini pro) support ad hoc as far as i know.
Connectify
If you are using Windows7, you might want to take a look at Connectify. Just google "connectify for windows". I can't post outside links yet.
Direct from their website:
Take any Internet connection and share it wirelessly with no additional hardware, wires, plugs, or chargers
Easily connect any number of Wi-Fi enabled devices to your network including desktop computers, laptops, phones, gaming systems, and more
Don't break the bank paying for multiple Wi-Fi connections on the road, Connectify is ad-supported and free to download and use.

Adhoc can be made to work
Check this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755254
Of course this would need a wifi dongle in your work PC, will admins allow that?
in the newer roms with gingerbread it's an option to do this when you plug in your phone.

Phone > PC > WIFI Router

Hi
I have already asked this before but may have asked it in a mad way, maybe in wrong place who knows this site is freaking massive
I have a HTC Sensation on 3 mobile One Plan and use this phone to give me and my partner internet using the WIFI Hotspot
As I am coming from broadband from good ole Richard I have 4 WIFI routers in several room in my house all have connection to my main PC which is my media server
Only problem is when we are on the internet we dont have access to this server we have to disconnect and connect to one of the WIFI routers
So what I would like to do is connect the phone to a PC using USB and use the PC as a proxy server, this would then be connected to one of the WIFI routers, this would then have all my WIFI routers giving out the internet
Is this possible??
Any info would be awesome
Thanks
Bump!! Bump!! Bump!!
well to make this work you would need use the wifi hotspot to connect to your server, from there bridge your wifi connection of the server to the hardwire connection of your pc. itll take some reconfiguring of your ip scheme to make it all work but if you know what your doing its not too bad. Also turn on all upnp. (universal plug and play) it will allow you to see all devices on the network without having to have the ip addresses.

[Q] solved - connect with wifi dongle to pc internet connection

how can i do that? thx
Do you mean you want your phone to share its internet via wifi tethering?

no, i mean access internet from pc, via wireless usb dongle
Might want to be a bit more specific there. From what you're saying, it sounds like you're trying to do what bedalus said.
If what you mean is that you want to access your wired internet service wirelessly to your phone, you're going to need to pick up a wireless router or something.

The second part is true, i want to access the wired internet service and i have an wireless usb dongle(adaptor), also i want to share files with pc wireless.
What PS do u have? With Windows 7 you can create an ad-hoc under network sharing center -> set Up a Connection or Network -> Set up a wireless ad hockey (computer-to-computer) network. Then you can just follow the instructions on the pc

Yes you are right. Nexus s does not support ad hoc. I am sorry, I did not know that. This is weird even iDevices support it.
You can try ZT180 adhoc switcher from the market. But I cannot guarantee it will work. Because I have not tried it by myself.
Another option is using Connectify from windows 7 PC. I don't know about apple PCs. But connectify can turn your windows 7 PC into a real access point router. Not just a ad-hoc.
Well the last option is get a wifi router. What internet do you use? I am sure you can have a wifi router for all internet connections. NO matter you have ADSL, Broadband(Ethernet? I don't really know how to call it) even 3g or 4g connection can be wifi-routered! You just need to pick a correct device since NS does not support ad-hoc.

Under "Password" field in Connectify , you have an option "Internet". There you can select your internet connection to share. Hope that works!
I mean i select the win7 default connection " Local Area Connection", and set it to shared, but the Connectify connection (access point) doesn't have network access, i don't know why, i tried almost 10 times, it just doesn't work.

Update: I think i solved it, i just turn off the firewall of ESET and windows, and it works fine, thank u guys

The best alternative solution for all devices, all android, adhoc connections

We know android won't connect to Ad Hoc networks, I tried to flash and root often, replaced many versions of the file wpa_suppicant with no results.
Here is an easier alternative to the android - pc connections [adhoc] and share internet, without doing anything on the device, only with a PC application, for all androids and devices...
We will turn our PC into a router, well, do it this way.
This is easy with a little application that I share.
1. Download and extract the files
2. Install the application
3. Restart the system
4. Register the product with the serial (included)
5. Setting fields:
Hotspot Name: choose any name
Password: choose any password
Internet to share: Your interface with internet to share
Share Over: Your wifi interface to connect with your android
Sharing Mode: Select the "wi-fi Access Point"
6. Start Hotspot
7. Activate the wifi on your android and connect to your acces point
Enjoy.
What's the name of sware?
Hi jota!
What's the name of your suggested software? Is it connectify? Connectify can create Access Point mode HotSpot for Windows 7 and above. It's so far the best AP hotspot app for Windows though some other apps like Virtual Router, Virtual Wifi Router, etc are available.

afaik you can make any windows 7/8 (and maybe vista) pc into a wifi hot point with just a few console commands without any external app or program...
Code:
A detailed step-by-step to setup tethering in Windows 7 without any 3rd party software:
From admin command prompt type:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=mywifinetwork key=mysecretkey
Enable new virtual Wi-Fi adapter (it might be disabled upon creation)
From admin command prompt type:
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
From current internet conection adapter share (ICS) to the virtual adapter
Connect from wireless client to virtual SSID. Wi-Fi client gets an auto IP and you're good to go.
After host computer restart you only need to repeat steps 3 & 5 to be up and running.
Adhoc or Access Point?
Thanks for the command prompt method NixZero. But, is the created network Adhoc or Access Point mode hotspot? If it's AP, Android can directly connect to it.

Android 2.2 or above have a built in Portable Hotspot feature to create Access Point mode Hotspot easily. Go to Settings->Wifi->Tethering and Portable Hotspot and turn on Portable Hotspot. This is a proper hotspot and acts like a real router. You can share your phone's internet connection over wifi and even play games. There's no need to create an Adhoc network when Access Point mode is readily available.

access point mode - I've used it to connect my tablet
the only annoying thing is that you have to activate it by hand at every boot (you can make a .bat obviously) and there are a few limits on the network sharing, for eg. it sets the dhcp for 192.168.0.255 mask with the server pc as 192.168.0.1 and you cant change it even if you set a different lan ip.

You can create Wifi Access Point without sharing internet. Just turn off Mobile Data and then start Hotspot. It will create a Hotspot with no internet access.
Or did you mean you want to share your home wifi over phone's wifi? Usually, you can only have one wifi connection at a time since there is only 1 wifi transciever per device. But, it may be possible to configure the device as a repeater. This can be done on Windows 7 devices using Connectify by setting up a hotspot with the same name and password as the source wifi connection. I don't know if it can be done on Android too.
---------- Post added at 03:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:44 PM ----------
@NixZero
Will this IP cause any conflict? As this is dhcp there should be nothing to worry about, right?
What about Static IP? Are there any commands to assign IP?
AndroidWifi for Windows 7
The blog Seeing and Believing has given a more detailed description and steps for the command line WiFi Access Point method that NixZero shared with us. An advantage of this method is that it can share non ethernet internet connections like USB dongle, bluetooth modem, etc. Connectify and other Virtual Routers are limited to sharing ethernet. Connectify Pro can do this, but it's not free. The same blog has also linked to a Windows Application AndroidWiFi which automates execution of these scripts.
How to get list of connected clients?
Hey NixZero, you missed one point - Connectify can show you the list of clients connected to Virtual AP. But, how do we do that in the Access Point created through command scripts?
